Below is a comprehensive South African-focused overview of skydiving clubs in Cape Town and drop zones around the area you can visit.

Cape Town and the broader Western Cape region are some of the most breathtaking places on Earth to experience skydiving. Whether you’re chasing your first freefall or aiming to progress in the sport.

With dramatic coastlines, iconic Table Mountain views and world-class skydiving facilities, enthusiasts from across South Africa and beyond come here for unforgettable aerial adventures.

Most established operators in the Western Cape operate under the Parachute Association of South Africa.

Therefore this ensures training standards aircraft maintenance and instructor qualifications meet national aviation requirements. For South Africans this affiliation is one of the most important signs of a reputable skydiving club.

Why Cape Town Is a Great Place to Skydive

Cape Town’s geography — from rugged mountains to the Atlantic Ocean — makes it perfect for scenic skydives. Operators here offer views of:

Table Mountain and Lion’s Head coastline

West Coast beaches

Cape Winelands and hinterland farms

Most clubs are affiliated with the Parachute Association of South Africa (PASA) and operate under South African Civil Aviation Authority regulations, ensuring safety and professionalism.

The following table offers you a quick view of skydiving clubs and drop zones near Cape Town:

Skydiving Club

Location

Best For

Experience Level

Distance From Cape Town

Skydive Cape Town

Diepkloof Airfield

Scenic tandem jumps

First time jumpers

About 70 km

Mother City Skydiving

Diepkloof Airfield

Tandem and sport jumping

Beginners and licensed jumpers

About 70 km

Skydive Robertson

Robertson Airfield

Training and licensing

Students and progressing skydivers

About 150 km

Skydive Two Oceans

Paarl area

Regular weekend jumps

Experienced jumpers

About 60 km

Tandem Skydive Booking Services

Cape Town area

Assisted bookings

First time jumpers

Varies

Tandem skydives from 10 000 ft or 12 000 ft with remarkable coastal views.

Mother City Skydiving also operates from Diepkloof Airfield near Malmesbury. This club caters to both beginners and licensed skydivers which gives it a strong community feel.

Perfect for: Adventure travellers and regular jumpers.

Other Booking Options in Cape Town

Some companies in Cape Town focus on organising tandem skydives rather than operating a full drop zone.

These businesses typically partner with established clubs and handle bookings transport and customer support. So this can be useful for tourists who want a guided experience without managing logistics themselves.

Most Cape Town clubs offer different skydiving options:

Tandem Jumps – You’re attached to a qualified instructor; perfect for first-timers.

Accelerated Freefall (AFF) Courses – Intensive training for solo skydivers.

Static Line Training – Ideal stepping stone for students learning basic jumps.

What to Expect When Skydiving in the Western Cape

Weather conditions may affect scheduling which is why flexibility is important when booking.

Cape Town offers one of the strongest skydiving scenes in South Africa. Because with multiple reputable clubs scenic drop zones and well regulated operations it is suitable for both beginners and serious enthusiasts.

Whether skydiving is a once in a lifetime experience or a long term pursuit the Western Cape provides quality options that continue to attract jumpers from across the country.

Secunda

Port Elizabeth

Durban

Mossell Bay

Cape Town

Bloemfontein

If you are interested in trying out one of the world’s most exciting extreme sports. However you are worried about the cost, find out and compare skydiving prices in South Africa.

Skydiving is an amazing adrenaline-inducing sport that requires courage and a lot of faith.

There are several different companies who offer tandem sky diving to individuals who want to experience this crazy free fall and flight.

Obviously skydiving is not a cheap activity. Therefore you will pay more for the skydive than you would have to pay for a paintball session or for rock climbing. But it will be worth it!

What is skydiving and why Skydiving Prices in South Africa Vary

Skydiving is when you attach yourself via a harness to a parachute and jump out of a plane at quite a high height above the ground.

Then you free fall for some time, which is the part that most sky divers look forward to the most. After that you pull a string which opens your parachute and float gently to the ground.

You will have to navigate your way to a safe landing spot and land at a slight run. So that you do not hurt yourself on impact with the ground.

You will also have to wear a helmet and other safety equipment and have basic training to ensure that you know what to do at every step.

The reasons prices for skydiving in South Africa vary are

Beginners Prices

Tandem Skydiving

Prices for Experienced Skydivers

Specials and Discounts on Skydiving

Most beginner skydivers will enjoy their sky diving in tandem.

This means that an experienced and professional skydiver will strap themselves to you and you will jump together.

This is great for beginners. Because it means that you can sit back and enjoy the ride without having to worry about pulling the right strings. Or navigating your parachute in the right direction.

Skydiving will still be terrifying and wonderful even if you are not in the drivers seat!

Where can you go Skydiving?

You can go skydiving almost anywhere in the country. The cost of skydiving in South Africa is different according to your skill level.

The only other requirement is that the wind is not too strong and that there is a safe area to land. Where the terrain is not too rough and where there are not too many power lines or other dangerous obstacles.

You will just have to find a company that offers skydiving near your area which will not be too difficult.

Most locations in South Africa (providing they are not too rural) will be just an hour or two’s drive from a sky diving company.

Do you need Training or a Certificate?

You do not need to get a certificate or complete any training course or module to go tandem skydiving.

You will have to undergo a small amount of training just so that you are prepared for what will happen during the sky dive. And for what the instructor who you will be sky diving with will expect from you.

In addition you will get a briefing before you get in the plane.

What are the Average Prices for Skydiving in South Africa?

The average sky diving price is about R2 000 per person. But as we say, this varies according to experience and the kind of package on offer.

You may be able to find cheaper offers and it is a good idea to compare prices. But R2 000 is the average you can expect for any sky diving session.

Often clubs offer specials on skydiving prices in South Africa. So if you can wait, keep your eyes open for these discount charges.

This should include your harness and safety equipment.

Other Extreme Sports to try in South Africa

So there are a range of other extreme sports that you could try if the skydiving costs are out of your price range.

South Africa offers the perfect landscape for a myriad of amazing and exciting activities. Along a scale from very cheap and affordable to quite expensive.

Some of these extreme sports and activities include rock climbing, abseiling, zip lining, shark cage diving, kite surfing, paragliding and more.

Similarly some activities like surfing and extreme biking, are still classified as extreme activities and sports. Even if they do not induce quite as much adrenaline as the other extreme activities.

If you are interested in an extreme sport that requires intelligence, stamina, skill, bravery and strength, you should try indoor and outdoor rock climbing in South Africa. South Africa is a country of adventure. There are many extreme sports enthusiasts who enjoy a large range of adrenaline pumping sports indoors, underwater, atop mountains and on along raging rivers.

If you are looking to find a sport that you can work on perfecting, find a career in, travel the world doing or just enjoy on the weekends then rock climbing is for you. Luckily for South Africans, there are many different places throughout the country with exciting rock climbing areas. You can climb indoor mountain faces as many gyms and explore the art of rock climbing under the blazing African sun outdoors.

What are the benefits of rock climbing?

According to many rock climbing experts, there are three main benefits of rock climbing under which all other advantages fall. These three main benefits are: improved physical strength, improved mental resolve and dexterity and an improved social life. These benefits have many benefits within them and need further explanation.

Improved physical strength

Aside from building arm and leg strength by pulling yourself up mountain faces, rock climbing (both indoor and outdoor) improves your core strength. There is a lot of balance required to stay on a little ledge while you pull yourself up to the next hold and this helps to tone and strengthen a range of core muscles. You will also improve your endurance and stamina. Rock climbing requires a lot of staying power and containment of energy. You need to keep going a long way before you reach the top and this means lots of stamina. You will also tone obscure areas of your body that many other sports will not reach like your fingers and hands. This can help you in many other sports and areas of your life. Your neck, shoulders and back will also get a workout every time you climb. Climbing is also a cardiovascular workout which is always great for your general health. To sum, rock climbing is a great total body workout. It keeps you fit, works out your heart, strengthens your core, improves your balance and strengthens almost every muscle from your toes to your neck to your fingers.

Improved mental resolve and dexterity

Rock climbing is not simply a brute strength sport. It requires clear thinking, a clear head, a good decision making process and spatial awareness. Every time you climb you will be working out your mental capacities and making yourself that much more mentally dextrous. There are several other areas where it will help you mentally: you will have a sense of achievement every time you climb, you will experience stress relief and your self-confidence will grow in leaps and bounds.

Improved social life

There is always a group of individuals who climb outdoor mountain faces together for safety. This gives you a feeling of belonging to a group and a spirit of camaraderie. In many cases this leads to the development of friendships and other interpersonal relationships.

Where can you do indoor rock climbing?

Most major gyms, for example Virgin Active, offer indoor climbing to their members. You will usually be briefed on safety, taught the basics on the ground, be strapped into a harness and then you will be able to begin climbing. There are many outdoor rock climbing companies who can take you to wonderful spots throughout the country. These companies include City Rock, Dirty Boots, Climb, SA Climb and many more.

Whichever form of rock climbing you choose to do, both indoor and outdoor rock climbing in South Africa is fun-filled, exciting, strengthening and just plain good for your soul. You will not find a more beautiful country to explore this sport in and you will definitely not be disappointed by the rock faces that South Africa has to offer.

When an individual uses a zorb ball, they are strapped into a giant ball and roll down a hill or around the area. Zorb balling can also be done on a body of water.

Abseiling

Abseiling is when an individual is harnessed to the top of a high wall or mountainous rocky area. They then let themselves down slowly by their rope and harness.

Bridge Swinging

Bridge swings are giant swings across a valley where the individual is harnessed to a rope and attached to a bridge.

Rock Climbing

Rock climbing is where individuals climb a rocky, usually quite sheer mountain face.

Scuba Diving

Scuba diving involves attaching an oxygen tank to an individual and allowing them to explore the depths of the ocean.

Paint Ball

Paint ball is a great sport for getting your adrenaline pumping. Individuals form teams and attempt to shoot each other with paint balls.

The feeling of flying through the air has got to be one of the most exciting and exhilarating experiences possible, and paragliding off Lion’s Head, Cape Town is one way you can fly.

What is paragliding?

Paragliding is an extreme sport where one or two individuals, strapped into a harness that is attached to a glider, run off a high point and are carried along by wind down to a safe landing spot.

How can you experience this sport?

There are many paragliding companies who offer both tandem paragliding and solitary paragliding.

Tandem paragliding

With tandem paragliding, a trained professional will paraglide with you under the same harness. The glider is generally oversized and there are two harnesses. Tandem paragliding is great for beginners who do not have the time or the inclination to do two days or more worth of theory and study before enjoying the paragliding experience. It is also good for people who are too nervous to do it on their own.

Paragliding solo

If you would like to learn to paraglide by yourself, you will have to spend several days studying the theory of paragliding from a qualified expert. You will learn safety and emergency procedures, you will be taught how to take off and how to land and you will find out all about the paragliding equipment. You will be tested on the knowledge you have gained and when you are ready, you will be able to fly. If you would like to gain paragliding qualifications you will have to study and train further.

Cape Town: the ideal paragliding destination

Cape Town is a beautiful city with many mountain ranges, gorgeous beaches, beautiful views and generally very good weather. There are several great paragliding spots around the city, but some of the best include the following:

Dassklip Pass

Noordhoek

Signal Hill

Sir Lowry’s Pass

Franschhoek Pass

Hermanus

Lions Head

Lions Head is definitely one of the most prime positions for paragliding. There are several launch sites on Lions Head with special covering to protect the ground below and to make the take off as smooth and safe as possible. Generally, if you paraglide from Lions Head, you will land on Camp’s Bay beach.

To paraglide, a lot of wind is not necessary. For safe take off and landing, a wind speed of between ten and thirty kilometres per hour is best. Because Cape Town has such wonderful weather for most of the year, almost two thirds of the year is perfect for paragliding. More important than wind speed is the direction it is blowing in. It is necessary for the wind to be blowing directly up the take off slope to paraglide safely.

Ready to jump from here?!

How the paraglide happens

If you are going to do a tandem glide with a professional, you and the instructor will be strapped into your harnesses. The glider will be laid out facing into the wind. Once the inflator rope has been tugged, the glider will inflate and rise up into the air. The instructor will do a line check and once he or she is convinced that all is fine, you will be instructed to start running forward.

In a few seconds the glider will pull both you and the instructor off your feet and into the air. The glide will generally be smooth and you will be able to take photographs while you are up there. Landing will generally occur on soft ground where there are not many obstacles.

Companies that offer paragliding off Lions Head Cape Town

The following is a list of some of the companies that offer paragliding off Lions Head.

SA Venues

Downhill Adventures

Extreme Scene

Cape Adventure Zone

Cape Town Tandem Paragliding

Paragliding Cape Town

Cape Town Direct

Birdmen Paragliding

Paragliding is an amazing, exhilarating and wonderful experience that you will never forget. You will be in safe hands as long as you go through a company that knows what they are doing.

If you are an adventurous soul with a taste for the wild life, you should try one of the Cape Town parachute jumps to experience an adrenaline rush like no other, and a jump through some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.

There are many different types of extreme sports that will get your blood moving through your veins. Some of these sports include paragliding, bungee jumping, zip lining, kite surfing and cage diving. Any one of these sports will test your strength, courage, willpower and endurance and most of them can be dangerous and you will need some level of training before attempting them.

However, parachute jumping is one of the most terrifying and exhilarating because you will have no rope or cord attaching you to safety. Once you jump, all you will have to rely on is your parachute and yourself. Once you have the proper training and once you are sure you want to go ahead with the sport, you will be better prepared for the experience. You can also rest assured that an experienced professional will be with you while you attempt your first try and help you through it.

What is parachute jumping?

Parachute jumping is also known as skydiving and it is when an individual is taken up high into the sky (up to 11 000 feet) and jumps from the aircraft. After free falling for a period of time, the skydiver must open his or her parachute which will allow the individual to land on the ground safely.

Tandem jumping

A tandem jump is the best way to experience the thrill of sky diving without having to train for a sky diving qualification. Tandem jumping is where you will be strapped onto a sky diving instructor who will open the parachute and control the landing. The jump occurs at between 9 000 and 11 000 feet, giving you about a 30 second freefall at up to 200 km per hour, and then a few minutes once the parachute has opened to float gently down to the ground.

If you are serious about sky diving and would like to get your licence, this is how you should go about it:

Step one: static line jumping

If you wish to try parachute jumping, you must be over 16 years of age and 100 kgs in weight or less. If you are under 18 years, you will require parental consent to jump. Before your first jump you will be trained at a sky diving facility for between five and eight hours on every aspect of parachute jumping, including safety procedure and how to land. Your first jump will be a static line jump taken at an altitude of 3 000 feet. Once you jump, your canopy is released from the plane, attached to a static line that is hooked onto the aircraft. Handlers inside the craft control the canopy and ensure that you land safely.

Step two: advanced freefall (AFF)

You will require more ground training before jumping. Your first AFF jump will be taken at 11 000 feet and two instructors will jump with you. They will hold onto you until your parachute opens. There are ten levels in AFF training where you will learn about altitude awareness, body positions, ripcord pulls, managing your own parachute and controlling your landing. You must complete 25 freefalls before you will have earned you internationally recognised A licence.

Why do it in Cape Town?

Cape Town is well known as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Cape Town parachute jumps will give you the most amazing views of mountains, sea and the amazing city. It is definitely one of the best parachute jumping destinations in the world. There are several sky diving companies based in Cape Town including the following:

Sky Dive Cape Town

Downhill Adventures

The Drop Zone

Sky Dive Robertson

If you are looking for the ultimate adventure, the experience that you will remember forever, a rush beyond imagination, a skydive in Mossel Bay might be for you.

Extreme sports and experiences are popular all over the world with many people. There is a long list of different experiences or hobbies that will make your adrenaline rush through your veins until you feel more alive than you ever have before. Some of these experiences include:

Kite surfing

Bungee jumping

Zip lining

Gorge swinging

Cliff jumping

Paragliding

Cage diving with sharks

Sky diving

There are other, slightly less frightening things that will still give you that rush. They include:

Abseiling

Rock climbing

Water skiing

There are, of course, many other sports and experiences which fit into the above two categories.

Why sky diving?

Sky diving is without a doubt one of the most terrifying and exciting experiences you can have. To jump off a high object is very frightening as it goes against our self preservation instinct. However, in other activities where jumping is necessary, like bungee jumping, zip lining or gorge swinging, you usually have a rope attached to you or you are swinging or zip lining along one. With a rope and a harness attached, you feel much safer. This is why sky diving is the ultimate jumping experience. You have no rope attached and you have to pull up your parachute when the time is right and then land safely, without anybody’s help. Also, the jump is much, much higher in sky diving than in any other jumping activities. An aeroplane or helicopter will take you up into the sky, often above the clouds, and you will have to squash all your instincts and just jump.

You will free fall for some time and when you are a certain distance from the ground you will have to pull your parachute cord and then steer yourself to a good landing spot. It is an adrenaline rush from start to finish.

Sky diving with an experienced professional

You will not sky dive alone on your first few times. Generally, a professional sky diver who has been trained and has a lot of experience will strap you to their harness and you will jump together. This is great in many ways.

Firstly, you will have the reassurance of knowing that you are in good hands. If you were too scared, you might not give yourself the headspace to enjoy the experience which would be a waste.

Secondly, the professional will make sure that the two of you do jump. If you were going it alone, the challenge might prove too frightening and you may change your mind at the last moment.

Thirdly, the professional will know exactly when the right time to pull the cord is and he or she will take care of the parachute. Not being sure that you will know when to pull your cord can be terrifying when you are flying towards the ground at great speed.

Lastly, the professional sky diver will steer you both towards a good landing spot and help you land safely.

What can go wrong?

It is unlikely that something will go wrong if you are using a reputable sky diving provider. However, there have been known to be some serious mishaps. Knowing what they are and making sure to ask your sky diving instructor how to avoid them is a good way to prepare yourself.

Parachute does not open

There are cases where parachutes do not open even when the sky diver pulls the cord to release it. This is often due to a fault within the packing of the parachute. It should only be done by a trained professional so ensure that no mishaps occur.

The landing goes wrong

There are also cases of sky divers landing badly because of weather or other conditions. Landing badly can lead to injury.

These and other mishaps can be avoided if you take every precaution by:

Choosing a reputable sky diving provider

Asking the relevant questions after doing your research

Making sure you are fully prepared for the experience

Why Mossel Bay?

Mossel Bay is a beautiful town just outside of the city of Cape Town. Sky diving here is an amazing experience because of the beautiful scenery and gorgeous weather. It is imperative to choose a good place to enjoy this amazing experience. A skydive in Mossel Bay will undoubtedly be one of the most thrilling experiences of your life.

The top 5 wild and extreme sports are not just out there for the dare devils and professionals – with the increasing number of companies offering extreme adventures to the public, everyone can have the chance to get the adrenalin pumping.

Bungee Jumping

South Africa is home to the highest bungee jump in the world at the Bloukrans Bridge in the Eastern Cape. If you are brave enough to plunge over 200m with only a cord tied to your feet, the Bloukrans is definitely high on the bucket list. But don’t worry; there are plenty of tamer options out there at a number of bungee jumping locations around South Africa.

Bungee jumping involves jumping off a high point (such as bridge) with your feet secured with a bouncy bungee cord. Another option is to do a bridge or gorge swing, which is similar to a bungee jump but allows you to be harnessed at the waist. This means that when you jump off your body will turn into a position with your head facing upwards (as opposed to downwards during a traditional bungee jump) and you will then swing into the abyss below before being hoisted up.

Sky Diving

For jumping from even higher heights, you can throw yourself out of a plane as you plunge into a skydive. If you are an adrenalin junkie (or just mildly insane), jumping out of an aeroplane with a parachute is the ultimate thrill. When choosing to go skydiving you can go the tandem route or go it alone with a solo jump. For first time jumpers, a tandem skydive is the best option as you will be attached to an instructor who will, aside from making sure you actually go through with the jump, deploy the parachute for you.

There are many skydiving location in South Africa, so conduct a simple online search to find the skydiving centre closest to you. Be sure to do your research to ensure that the skydiving centre is legitimate and takes the appropriate safety measures to keep you flying through the air with relative peace of mind.

Mountain Climbing

Another sport making the top 5 wild and extreme sports list is mountain climbing, another sport that South Africa has to offer in abundance with the beautiful mountain ranges throughout the country. Mountain climbing involves scouring mountains, scaling cliff faces and navigating your way to new heights! There are so many places with beautiful and rugged terrain for you to explore in South Africa that will also provide you with quite to work out!

Depending on your experience and fitness level, you can choose different climbs to suit your abilities. Wherever you go, be sure to have the right equipment. You need a good pair of shoes (preferably hiking boots) that will prevent you from slipping. You also need comfortable socks and should always wear a hat and sunscreen and bring some water along with you.

White water rafting

White water rafting is an exciting way of floating and boating yourself down a river, but don’t expect a smooth ride! You and your rafting team and a guide will find yourselves bumping down rapids as the rubber duck is left at the mercy of the swirling water below it. Wearing life vests is compulsory, but it is still advisable to stay away from the white water if you are unable to swim. If you can swim, be prepared, as you may just have to!

Hang gliding

Bungee jumping and sky diving involve hurtling through the air at break-neck speeds, but if you prefer to take the scenic route, you can consider soaring through the air on a hang glider. This is pretty much as close as you will ever get to flying as you run down a slope getting lighter and lighter until you suddenly take off into the sky. If you are a first-timer, you can go tandem and let someone else do the work for you while you sit back and enjoy the view.

Abseiling is a great way to get close and personal with the beautiful landscapes South Africa has to offer, giving you a truly unique perspective and experience. The thrills of abseiling also allow you to indulge your inner adrenalin-junkie in a relatively safe and controlled environment.

What is abseiling?

Abseiling was developed as a way for mountain climbers to descend very step or vertical cliffs using harnesses, specialized ropes and other safety equipment. Absailing is now a popular sport around the world which involves being strapped in a harness and going down a steep cliff by controlled release of a rope that is attached to a secured point on top of the cliff. You can also abseil down dam walls, the walls of high rise buildings, or any other vertical surface.

South Africa claims to have the highest commercial abseil, allowing those who dare to scale 112m down the cliffs of the beautiful Table Mountain situated in Cape Town. A professional company will give you a quick crash course before helping you to face your fears as you lower yourself over 112m of cliff face. The only requirement is that you are brave enough to look around and be able to appreciate the sights and scope around you.

For those who are seeking an even greater thrill, rapp jumping is abseiling done face-first, allowing you an eye-pooping lean over the precipice you are about to descend.

Where to go absailing in South Africa

Abseil Africa: This company allows you to descend the famous landmark of Table Mountain or the 65m cascade of water down Kamikaze Kanyon. If abseiling is not your cup of tea, the company also offers team building and a Table Mountain Summit Walk.

Adventure Realm: Based in Durban in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, Adventure Realm caters to small groups, scholars, corporates, as well as individuals. The company offers a number of adventure and adrenalin-pumping activities, including abseiling, rapp jumping, archery, rock climbing, white water rafting, scuba diving, horse riding, paintball, sailing and quad biking.

Ashanti Travel Centre and Lodge: This company also offers a wide range of adventure activities including abseiling down Table Mountain.

Downhill Adventures: the beauty of Table Mountain and the city of cape Town make Table Mountain a very popular abseiling destination. Downhill Adventures offers the world’s highest commercial abseil of 112m down the slopes of Table Mountain, offering breath-taking views of the city.

Eden Adventures: Situated along the beautiful Garden Route is Eden Adventures, a company that offers abseiling, kloofing, and a combination of the two in the Kaaimans George. Also along the Garden Route is abseiling in Robberg in Plettenberg Bay.

Extreme Scene: if you’re not afraid of getting wet, try abseiling down 65m of the Thunder Falls in Cape Town.

At a number of South African bungee jumping locations, you can take a plunge into some beautiful scenery… if you can keep your eyes open long enough to see it! Bungee jumping is when a person attaches a special cord to his or her ankles before throwing themselves into thin air (often off the edge of a bridge. Before they hit the ground, a stretchy bungee cord bounces them back upwards.

Bungee jumping began as a way for boys to enter manhood through this tribal ritual. Instead of bungee cords, they attached vines (tied to two bamboo towers) to their ankles. The divers were dared to jump as high as possible, stopping as close to the ground as they can to prove their bravery and manhood. Thankfully, bungee jumping equipment has become a lot more specialized and safe.

South Africa can boast the highest of worldwide bungee jumping locations. The highest commercial bungee jump, the Bloukrans Bungee Jump, is located along the scenic Garden Route. This jump will send you plummeting 216m towards the bottom of a river gorge. Instead of an ankle harness, a full body harness is necessary for this extremely high bungee jump. The jump is surprisingly comfortable (albeit frightening) as the full body harness is used in conjunction with a technique known as ‘pendulum bungee technology’.

Although South Africa has the highest bungee jump, this is not country’s only available option. South Africa’s first commercial bungee jump can be found 35km form Mossel Bay, along the N2 highway on the Gouritz bridge. This 65m jump is a little less intimidating than the Bloukrans 216m and is ideal for first-timers or beginners.

Tandem jumps from this bridge are also possible, allowing the Lily-livered to jump off feet first rather than head first. Another more fun, less fright kind of bungee jumping is a bridge swing. For a bridge swing, a safety harness is attached to your waist with another rope attached to a second bridge about 20m to 30m away. As the jumper jumps off, the rope is quickly pulled taught and the person will swing forward over the ground. Not quite as scary as bungee jumping, but jumping off a bridge nevertheless!

Bungee Mogale: In Krugersdorp you can experience 50 metres of pure thrills and adrenaline rush. You can challenge both the limits of gravity and of your own courage with off the Kings Kloof Bridge situated in Krugersdorp Mogale City.

Power Swing across Soweto: the Soweto cooling towers are an iconic image of this former township just outside of Johannesburg. Now you can swing across them and free fall into the town that is fast becoming a popular South African tourist destination.

Big Swing – Conquer your fear: In Graskop, daring divers are attached to a safety harness and swung across the landscape. This beautiful setting is 1493 metres above sea level, with adrenalin levels matching those of the high altitude.

Although you may feel intimidated at the thought of throwing yourself off a bridge or swinging into an abyss, the bungee jumping locations around the country pride themselves on extreme safety measures and top quality equipment. If you feel nervous, remember all those who have done it before you and once you have signed up, there is no backing out! On the count of “1, 2, 3 BUNGEEEE!” you can launch yourself into an adrenalin-filled adventure like no other; and in the beautiful South African surroundings you will get yourself some good bungee jump pictures, even if you were too afraid to open your eyes and enjoy the scenery for yourself.

Bridge swinging and tandem jumps are also an option; allowing you to still boast that you jumped off a bridge!
