Repetition and circus. Tricks, forms, apparatus obsessively practiced, and then repeated in performance. Repeated so that they become embedded within the ‘being’ of a person.

Repetition in circus has a personal meaning. An intermit exposure to time, that is like a branding iron to the skin. It is history expressed through actions, lived. Repetition becomes part of a unique understanding. The mind bends to encompass all those thousands of repetitions. Time is interpreted to stretch, to become laborious, then the quicken again with every deviation or mutation. And, the repetitions branch out and multiply.

But it all kind of boils down to one starting action. Through repetition, the original is transformed through time, to encompass all. And so, the circus performer, chips away at themselves, as they build themselves. Every single repetition, sitting on the backs of all the others - forgotten, then relived through the next and the next. Until they are all like one and there is no last. Intimate, original and sifting through time.

I just cant get my head around how thats possibly a good idea when art can NEVER soley speak on its own. Art is always contextual or contextualised by other things. Eg.. Two paintings could look the exactly the same and potentially mean different things.. eg. A dot painting by a white person Vs an indiginous person.. If you think art should speak on its own ur pretty much going against physics! Id like to see you try!”

Start off the morning by leaning the two plans to see how they feel. George is keen to get testing out the structure.

Drill is all together with hinges..

An important part of my process is that I test everything with cats.

George is very happy with the integrity of the structure.

I guess in reflecting on those photos there is an inside world to them all. They have a life to themselves where the people in them are the focus. The perspective is like you’re there and the landscape doesn’t overpower.

In one, the one with the man laying on the concrete pylon, the rules change a little. The landscape is quite potent there. It gives me the feeling that the outer world is looking in. I kind of prefer the less complicated photos though. Simple moments. Caught between a though and an action. Drawn to the stifling contemplation.

I have a darkroom now. So these digital scans are just representations really. I don’t have any money to make prints though.. So zeros and ones it is.

I feel 50% digital, 50% analogue.

Perhaps being born in 1985 has something to do with my life being split down the middle by the year 2000. Growing up computers and art took equal place in my life. As a young person I lost sleep building computers and games, and also painting and practicing handstands.

Now that I’m 31, I have some perspective on that and I’ve become quite comfortable with the idea that raw materials and data can interact within art equally, even if they seem opposites. One a solid state, the other transformable. Making something that lasts beyond weather or in-build redundancy is always the goal. Making something that will speak for generations to come..

I’ve attached this image by Salvador Dali. A painting that is made to be viewed through mirrors in order to combine the two images. Who would have thought that this would become common place within the trans-humanist landscape, by means of virtual reality or mixed reality.. Although - this painting will never become out-dated or redundant. It speaks forever as surreal and it just keeps getting more surreal as time goes on.

Yesterday I saw for the first time, VR goggles being used in public space. A man in the park was flying a small zippy drone with VR goggles and a controller. Very surreal. I wondered when this kind of thing would start occurring, but didn’t think it would happen so soon. 2016 really is the year of VR.. What gadgets are you oggling off atm..?

End day of 2015. Next year is supposedly the year of VR. I’m quite excited for the new media experiences to come. For now I’m augmenting my reality here with a rigging sling, restricting the movement of my arms. Have a nice day x
