It has been a fun ride; however, due to rl obligations which have greatly diminished the time I have available for SL and without demand or use of the sims I have decided that there is no reason to keep expending exorbitant amounts of cash to keep these sims open. It has been an honor and a pleasure to host these sims. Although the sims are closing, the Flying Tigers group will continue to exist as long as there are individuals committed to honoring veterans and commemorating the ww2 era. We have hangars available in different locations and will continue to fly whenever possible.

I want to thank all of you, both past and present, who have contributed to the last 4 years of our Tribute to the WW2 era.

Helping Haven is a great spot where new residents in Second Life can get advice and attend classes! Helping Haven was kind enough to set up an exhibitors booth at our 16 Day Sports Festival! Lily Swindlehurst, one of the owners of Helping Haven was kind enough to answer some questions about the organization:

1. What inspired you to start your business or organization in Second Life?
I had been a helper for several years on another sim, when that area closed four of us, Aullere Ocello, Notfragile Gausman, CharlesDe Beaumont and myself Lily Swindlehurst started up Helping Haven in September 2011. We had found that helping people was something that we all enjoyed and got a lot of satisfaction from.

2. Tell us about your business or organization:
Helping Haven is a team of over 100 voluntary helpers who assist both new and old residents with their Second Life questions and problems. We also offer free classes on various Second Life skills and many events to which all are welcome. We have a website which displays our full calendar as well as more information about Helping Haven: http://helpinghaven.weebly.com
Our SL url is: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Isle%20of%20Creation/11/248/22

3. What are some exciting plans for the future for your business?
We hope to have some live acts soon performing on Haven. We would like to exhibit more at events, such as the Flying Tigers ones and also at SL9 B which we enjoyed. To continue expanding our website.
To have an even more varied class options and bring in new teachers.

4. As you know, our 16 day sports festival is taking place to honor the Olympics. What is your favorite Olympic sport?
Athletics.

5. How long have you been in Second Life?
Over 5 years.

6. What made you first join Second Life?
I read an article in a British newspaper about virtual worlds which sounded interesting.

7. What are some of the strangest things you have experienced or seen in Second Life?
I think maybe some of the amazing places that have been built by residents and also some of the wierd avatars.

8. If you could invite anyone from RL into SL, who would it be?
My best friend.

This past week has been very busy at the Flying Tigers' 16 Day Sports Festival! On Monday, DJ Cath started the week by playing to a packed crowd! Host Amber was on hand to keep the crowd laughing and in good spirits:

Today's Sports Festival Spotlight is on Z3 Arms & Technologies, which is owned and operated in Second Life by Don Kobichenko. Don also provided our shooting range and boxing arena for our 16 Day Sports Festival! Don was kind enough to provide answers to some of our questions about himself and Z3:

1. What inspired you to start your business or organization in Second Life?
When I first heard of a game where the content is all user-created, it was intriguing enough to take a look. Then some friends of mine wanted to start up something, but we didn't want to do the same things sooo many others were doing. Well, long story short, many of them went AWOL, and so there was just me to carry the torch of empire, being the only one in my circle who logs in more than twice a year.

VICE and WW2 were among the first things I ran into in SL, so I decided to explore that. First I went into combat and then I went into gun smithing, for this most solid combat system.
I've been thriving on taking my builds and the technology behind them beyond the standard, especially in the last year.

I'm proud to say that this business and the art of weapons development behind it have brought out the best of my creativity and ingenuity, although not everyone shares in that assessment.

2. Tell us about your business or organization:
Z3 is the current evolution of the Arms & Arms Technology front geared at producing top quality and revolutionary VICE arms.

I'm nearly a one man show, when it comes to final products, but I owe a lot to modelers and other coders who've made contributions to my work.

I don't davel into every single combat system in SL for one reason: VICE was my first love and I never saw a decisively better system to this date. It has it's shortcomings and that's why I've used Z3 to do my utmost to demonstrate what VICE can do. I've done that in two ways: As a fighter, I have a good idea about the look and feel people expect from their weapons and I try to capture it in what I build.

Secondly, I have used my know-how to develop technology that transcends the combat system to new heights, my original goal being to preserve the system's life and extend it's use. Currently, this is Z3's focus: extending and proliferating the use of VICE.

3. What are some exciting plans for the future for your business?
Mainly, I plan to produce as many developer kits as possible, because I believe it's long time for the power to produce fun toys to go into more player's hands. I also plan to spend the year poking around with our super-secret BLT technology, to see what new weapons and modifications are possible.

I want to continue to evolve and change the system so that it can stay alive and stay fun for players.

4. As you know, our 16 day sports festival is taking place to honor the Olympics. What is your favorite Olympic sport?
I'd have to say, hockey or Basketball (Go, team USA!).

5. How long have you been in Second Life?
Allllmost 2 years. Maybe a little more, now. Seems a lot longer.

6. What made you first join Second Life?
Some friends told me you could build and program things here, so I tried it out, because I was fascinated by that concept.

7. What are some of the strangest things you have experienced or seen in Second Life?
Well.. the whole slave RP that goes on here hit me pretty hard. A lot of SL is a culture shock when you first start. Of course I'm used to most of it, by now and have found my element.

8. If you could invite anyone from RL into SL, who would it be?
Maybe some of the smart people I know who could contribute to my business or make their own way here.

You can purchase items from Z3 by visiting their marketplace shop or in world at the Sports Festival!

Today's Sports Festival Spotlight is on Virtual Attitude Wrestling or VAW. VAW owner and founder, Vince Aftermath was kind enough to provide some answers to some of our questions:

1. What inspired you to start your business or organization in Second Life?
Wrestling...I love wrestling and even though it may be acting at some points. Some of the action can get real but no on

2. Tell us about your business or organization:
Virtual Attitude Wrestling is what you may call WWF/WWE/WCW of Second Life. We are wrestling NOT mud wrestling but all out drama filled, voice action, animated wrestling at its best. We travel 24/7 each week across the Second Life Grid bringing free entertainment every Tuesday at 5pmSLT and Thursday at 3pmSLT. We also have our HQ at the Potomac Center which our second branded show "Turbulence" runs out of.

3. What are some exciting plans for the future for your business?
Virtual Attitude Wrestling is undergoing some format changes to our shows which consist of production changes and quiltie of our weekly shows. It's time to go to the next level. VAW has been around for 6 months and it’s time to change things up a bit. Virtual Attitude Wrestling has been recently picked up by Force.TV. Our goal is for us to start grabbing fans from the outside world and showing them the magic of Second Life. Our contract with Force.TV is set for 12 weeks. Nonetheless, I'm confident that our contract with be extended when the time comes.

4. As you know, our 16 day sports festival is taking place to honor the Olympics. What is your favorite Olympic sport?
Wrestling...

5. How long have you been in Second Life?
2 Years

6. What made you first join Second Life?
The magic of SL meaning all the great things you can do which makes it unlimited.

7. What are some of the strangest things you have experienced or seen in Second Life?
Snail racing and griefers, I would say those two are the most strangest things in SL. I'm sure there are more but I can't think of them at the moment.

8. If you could invite anyone from RL into SL, who would it be?
Vince McMahon, I guess because I love wrestler and he put it on the map. I would love to work with him so that Virtual Attitude Wrestling could have more master minds behind the deck of cards.

You can catch a special VAW show at the Flying Tigers' Sports Festival, today July 31, 2012 at 5pm slt!

Yesterday the Virtual Pioneers, held their weekly tour in the Flying Tigers' Sims! The Virtual Pioneers is made up of history and social studies educators who tour historical themed places in Second Life. The educators first toured the WW2 Tribute sim, including the Flying Tigers' Squadron Hangar, the Pilot Academy, Headquarters, and the security headquarters. The educators were given aviator packages and two WW2 themed aircraft. Major General Giano, Flying Tigers' sim and group owner, lead the tour and talked to the educators about the history of the real life Flying Tigers:

After the tour, the educators were given a treat! Two special aviation demonstrations were held for everyone. First WW2 pilots, lead by Lt. Col. Thorn Blackflag, demonstrated WW2 aviation:

After the WW2 aviation demonstration, modern aircraft an maneuvers were demonstrated by members of the 23rd Wing, who were lead by Brig. Gen. Vickster Kuhn:
