Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

For the first time in ages, all five of us contributed to this week's call. There wasn't a ton to talk about - none of us got around to "Oblivion" - but we still managed some decent discussions. The films we do talk about are the likes of "The ABCs of Death" and "The Company You Keep".

Next week, "Pain and Gain", "The Big Wedding", "Arthur Newman", "Mud", and "At Any Price" hit theaters. We run through each of those titles and detail which we're most interested in checking out.

The majority of this week's time, however, went to some recaps of the previous week's Ebertfest. Ben, Derek and Andy attended each day of the event, and provide further insight to what they detailed in their daily reports. It was another great year at the festival, and all three of them had a really great time.

Check out everything they had to say about the event and more below!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

It's been a while for most of us here - due to a mixture of busy schedules and a general lack of interest for the films hitting theaters over the past month or so - but we're back in (nearly) full force to provide our thoughts on a variety of films that have recently released! This week saw new films "42" and "Scary Movie 5" hit theaters, though we only got around to one of those gems - I'll let you listen to find out which one for yourself.

Other films we discuss on this edition include "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone", "Evil Dead", "G.I. Joe: Retaliation", "The Host", "Olympus Has Fallen", and more.

Also, and you'll get more details on this later this afternoon, we preview some of what we'll be expecting later this week with Ebertfest. The Slackers will be in attendance again this year, now for (officially) the second year in a row.

Check all of it out and more below!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

The entire gang is back, as we tackle our first CinemaCast post-Oscars. Unfortunately, that left little to talk about, as no one cared much for the films releasing this past weekend. But while we didn't actually see any of the films, it didn't stop us from speaking our minds on a few of the titles. "Jack the Giant Slayer", "21 and Over", and "The Last Exorcism Part II" were the three new releases; needless to say, there was a reason none of us ventured out for any of these.

Nathan and Alex do spend a little time discussing "A Good Day to Die Hard", a film that they both saw a few weeks back, but got blocked by discussions of the Oscars. The general consensus on the film was that it was not good.

We spend a few minutes talking about next week's films, "Oz the Great and Powerful", and "Dead Man Down", though again, there's not much of interest there.

We finish things up with Andy's review on a recent brunch he had with "X-Files" creator Chris Carter. He details some upcoming projects, his Oscar night plans, and what he ate!

While we're happy admitting that we didn't see much of anything this week, this still ended up being a very entertaining podcast. There are plenty of good laughs to be had, so give it a listen!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

The Oscars were just two nights ago, and we had plenty of thoughts and reactions to detail. Only two of us, Alex and Derek, were available post-Oscars to get our thoughts in, but we still cover much of the ceremony, from the overall show and telecast, to the winners, losers, upsets, and our least favorite wins on the night.

"Argo" took home Best Picture, which was generally accepted, but the Best Director category and a few of the Acting categories provided a bit more surprise. We also saw the sixth tie for an award in the event's 85 year history, and the first ever in one of the tech categories. That was a neat thing to see.

Overall, it felt like the crop of winners was strong this year, and for the most part, we were both pleased with the outcomes. As for the presentation and the show's direction, we had our fair share of complaints.

Give a listen to this week's podcast below to hear all of our in-depth thoughts!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

Only three of us partook in this week's discussion, but as we're still in a slow time of the year, there's not a lot of exciting material yet to discuss. Still, we spend some time on some newer releases, including "Side Effects", "Warm Bodies", and "Bullet to the Head".

Next week's films opening in wide release are "A Good Day to Die Hard", "Beautiful Creatures", and "Save Haven". While none of them seem particularly intriguing, it shouldn't be too difficult to figure out which title of the three we'd each opt for.

Not much happened outside of theaters this week, but Derek did make his way over to a local art theater to check out all of the live-action and animated shorts nominated for Oscars this year. He goes through some of his favorites and some of the let-downs.

Another great week of interesting discussion, so be sure to give it a listen!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

The slower weeks continue along here as the quality of films hitting theaters remains low. Some of us finally got to last week's "Mama", while Nathan also got around to "Movie 43". Otherwise, not much else happening on the new film front this week.

As far as next week goes, it looks like there's at least a bit more hope with films like "Bullet to the Head", "Warm Bodies", and "Stand Up Guys" all hitting theaters. We go over which we might be checking out.

Outside of theaters, really only one notable film this week, as Alex finally got around to "Robot and Frank". He goes over his thoughts on that one.

Luckily, the SAG Awards were Sunday night, so that gave us something to fill the majority of our time with. There are only a small handful of awards handed out on the movie side though, but we go through each and weigh in on what effect, if any, they might have on the Oscar races.

Another efficient podcast this week, so be sure to give it a listen!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

Another slower-than-usual week, but that will probably be the case at least for the next month or so, as January and February are traditionally very slow times in the movie world (outside of some film festivals and awards shows that we'll probably focus on more with BonusCasts).

New releases this weekend included "Mama", "The Last Stand" and 'Broken City". Unfortunately, only one of us was able to get to "The Last Stand"; hopefully we'll have a bit more discussion on some new releases next weekend - though, again, most of these aren't incredibly inspiring movies that we're dying to get to the theaters and see. It shouldn't be a shock if we pass some of these up.

Next week looks to get even worse as "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters", "Movie 43", and "Parker" all release. We go over which we might be seeing, if any.

An otherwise, only a couple of films that we saw outside of theaters worth talking about this week. Nathan got in a viewing of "End of Watch", while Alex checked out "Seven Psychopaths". Also, we do take a few minutes breaking down the upcoming Die Hard movie, and give some suggestions as to how the film could have been anything but the disaster we expect it will be.

This is one of our shorter podcasts, so you shouldn't have much trouble with it. Be sure to give it a listen!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

What the difference a week makes. Last week saw an epic 'Cast, where we struggled to keep things under the two-hour mark. This week, quick and clean, as we come in at right around 45 minutes. We held off on most awards talk, as we'll have another BonusCast in the coming days to really dig into everything. Still, we touched a bit on Sunday's Golden Globe Awards and the implications, if any, of their outcome.

As for the weekend's new releases, "Gangster Squad" and "A Haunted House", a few of us saw the first and share some opinions on that, which are mostly positive.

Next week isn't the most inspiring of weeks, but there seems to be aspects we can appreciate in all three releases, which include "The Last Stand", "Mama", and "Broken City". We run through which we'll be checking out this weekend.

We finish up the talk on a variety of short topics including Nathan's thoughts on the Academy Award nominated "Amour", Ben and Andy's reaction to last weekend's Portage International Film Festival, and back to Nathan for a recap on his best movie theater experience ever.

As mentioned above, it's a pretty efficient episode this week, so definitely be sure to give it a listen!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

Ladies and Gentlemen, what an episode we have for you this week! With so many great new & newish movies to talk about as we sprint to the end of awards season, we were kept plenty busy. But on top of that, this week we decided to also focus a good portion of time on our Most Anticipated Films of 2013! Each of us go over some of our favorites, and we give some discussion on each.

We start the episode off with our reviews on the new (and newish) films hanging around and finally releasing in theaters, including "Promised Land", "The Impossible", "Zero Dark Thirty", "Django Unchained", "Les Miserables", "The Paperboy", and "Hitchcock".

Next week, two films get a wide release: "Gangster Squad" and "A Haunted House". I'll let you figure out which one we'll probably spend time on next week.

No time for anything outside of theaters this week, as we spend the second half of this week's Cast discussing all of the films we're looking forward to in 2013. Films like "Pacific Rim", "Iron Man 3", "Star Trek Into Darkness", and "Man of Steel" headline most of our picks, but more than 30 different titles are mentioned overall.

This is our first episode ever to approach the 2-hour mark, so there's a lot to take in this week. It's a great episode though, so definitely be sure to give it a listen!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

Lots to talk about this week, as the holiday season brought ample titles and time off for all of us! The new releases we saw were "Django Unchained" and "Les Miserables". We share some thoughts on both of those. Plus, we go briefly back and touch on Judd Apatow's latest, "This Is 40", and Nathan gives us his opinions on Peter Jackson's The Hobbit, as seen in the latest 48fps resolution.

Next week, not a very good crop, but we go over upcoming titles "Texas Chainsaw 3D", "The Impossible", and "Promised Land" - the latter two don't officially release this weekend but do get their nationwide expansions.

Outside of theaters, we saw a handful of titles, including "ParaNorman", "Searching for Sugar Man", "Killing Them Softly", and "Savages".

Another great week with a lot to cover, so again we're just over an hour. It's jam-packed with good stuff though, so be sure to give it a listen!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

After a week off, we gathered together just before Christmas to give you an epic recap of the past two weeks. Among the new films hitting theaters, we discuss "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" (which all five of us saw), "Jack Reacher", and "This is 40".

Next week (or, starting today, I suppose), we're looking at "Django Unchained", "Les Miserables", and "Parental Guidance". See which titles we're most looking forward to and if any pulled us from our families on this Christmas day.

Outside of theaters, a handful of titles are discussed. Derek and Alex caught up on some animated features, and discuss "Wreck-It Ralph", "Frankenweenie", and "ParaNorman". Also, such titles as "Pitch Perfect", "Amour", and "Waterworld" are also touched on.

With so much to cover, at just under an hour and a half, this is definitely one of our more robust podcasts ever! Tons of great content though, so be sure to give it a listen below!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

Only three of us were able to make the call this week, but we still managed to get in plenty of great discussions on a handful of note-worthy films. No one got around to "Playing for Keeps", but between the three of us, this week we saw "Anna Karenina", "Life of Pi", "Argo", and "Beasts of the Southern Wild", all of which are currently playing in theaters around the country.

Next week's crop contains just one title: "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey". We go into some of our thoughts on the film and what we expect. The conversation might be some of the most fun we've ever had on one of these!

Outside of theaters the only film hitting our radars was the Anniversary Edition of "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial", which recently came out on blu-ray. Even all these years later, it's still a great film.

Just under an hour this week; be sure to give it a listen because we have a lot of fun!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

We're finally back, after taking some time off for the Thanksgiving holiday! There was a lot to cover this week, which centered around films we've seen in theaters recently but haven't yet touched on, including "Lincoln", "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2", and "Life of Pi". "Killing Them Softly" released brand new this weekend, but unfortunately none of us had time to get to it yet.

New films hitting theaters next weekend include "Playing for Keeps", "Hyde Park on Hudson", and "Lay the Favorite". Overall, a pretty weak crop and a week that most of us will use to catch up on some previous releases we might have missed.

Outside of theaters (or, wide releases at least - a few were seen in local art theaters), Alex and Andy checked out a few notable titles including "
Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County", "10 Years", and "The Details".

We're just over an hour this week as we try to catch up on everything; be sure to give it a listen as we cover a wide array of topics!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

This past week, only one new film hit theaters, but it was a big one in "Skyfall". We all ventured to the theater for this, so we do go into plenty of detail in our thoughts and reactions to the film. As usual, there are plenty of spoilers to follow, to tread lightly.

We also go over the new films hitting theaters next weekend, including "The Twilight Saga - Breaking Dawn Part II" and "Silver Linings Playbook", plus the expansion of "Lincoln", which tops all of our lists for the coming week.

Nothing too notable outside of theaters this week, but there's still plenty of great content to be had, so be sure to give it a listen!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

This week, a few notable films hit theaters: "Flight" and "Wreck-It Ralph". "The Man With the Iron Fists" was also there, but our attentions were on the previous two this weekend. We spend time going over each in detail.

Next week's lineup is pretty shallow, but it's a good one. "Skyfall", the 23rd installment in the James Bond franchise will hit American theaters.

Nothing really of note that we saw outside of theaters this week, but since the big news in the movie word since our last discussion was the purchasing of Star Wars and LucasFilm by Disney, we give our thoughts on how we expect all of that to play out.

Plenty of great stuff this week; be sure to give it a listen!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

This week, with the big release of "Cloud Atlas" - at least in our minds, maybe not so much with the general public - we spend a good majority of the time breaking down that film and providing our thoughts on it. While some of us enjoyed it more than others, it was still a success with each of us and a film we all recommend checking out for yourself.

Next week's lineup includes Robert Zemeckis' return to live-action with "Flight", which looks to be a favorite amongst the group. Also releasing is "Wreck-It Ralph" and "The Man With the Iron Fists".

Only a few notable films were seen this week, but we do briefly discuss some thoughts on "Butter" and "The Raven".

Plenty of great stuff this week; be sure to give it a listen!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

This week, after taking last week off, we talk about a handful of new films recently seen in theaters, including "Paranormal Activity 4", "Argo, "Sinister", and "The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Next week's lineup includes the much-anticipated "Cloud Atlas", along with "Chasing Mavericks" and "Silent Hill: Revelation". We go over which we'll be seeing.

A few other notable films were seen this week, including "Safety Not Guaranteed" and "Cosmopolis". Plus, Derek details some fascinating details that involved his dreams and the movie "Ghostbusters".

Plenty of great stuff this week; be sure to give it a listen!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

This week, two new films hit theaters, but none any of us were too overly interested in: "Taken 2" and "Frankenweenie". We go over some reviews and the box office gains for each in their opening weekends though.

Next week's lineup includes a pretty solid grouping of films, including "Argo", "Seven Psychopaths", "Sinister", and "Here Comes the Boom". We go over which we'll be seeing.

We didn't get around to much outside of theaters, but do briefly get into "The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1" and "Red Lights".

With this being the first week of October though, we finish up this edition with something a bit different than normal, and detail some of our favorite horror films and greatest horror movie experiences - most of which make for pretty great childhood tales!
Thanks for listening!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

This week, the only new film that any of us saw was "Looper", but since we all thought it was pretty great, we spend a good deal of time going into detail on that one. Be warned, there are plenty of spoilers ahead, but if you've already seen the film, there's some good insight into some various aspects of it.

Next week's lineup is much weaker than we've seen recently, with the only wide releases being "Frankenweenie" and "Taken 2". None of us have many interests in either of these, but we go over which we'd be seeing given the option of just the two.

No notable titles outside of theaters this week, so it's mainly just the "Looper" discussions. Plenty of great stuff though, so be sure to give it a listen!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

This week, only three of us were able to hop on the podcast, but we still managed to get plenty of solid discussion in on a variety of different movies. Four wide releases hit theaters this weekend, including "Dredd", "House at the End of the Street", "End of Watch", and "Trouble With the Curve". Between the three of us, we saw two of these films - and liked them both!

Next week's lineup will offer three wide releases, but probably only one we'll all be checking out. The sci-fi time travel movie "Looper" finally gets its release, and is one we're all very interested in. "Hotel Transylvania" and "Won't Back Down" also release, though neither of those seem like theater visits.

All three of us saw at least one other film this week, and we discuss them all. "The Master", "The Cabin in the Woods", "The Revenant", and "Salvation Boulevard" are among the titles discussed.

As we've now switched to a digital format, the quality seems again moving in the right direction, though we're aware that a few volume tweaks still need made. But the quality we're able to provide is seemingly better every coming week, and we're glad we can continue to make the listening experience that much better.

Only three, but still a solid hour worth of discussion this week. Give it a listen below!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

This week, two wide releases hit theaters, but no one much seemed to care (and the box office numbers can back that up). If you were looking for discussion on "The Words" and/or "The Cold Light of Day", sorry, you won't find any of it here.

Next week's lineup seems a step in the right direction, as the wide releases aren't anything too exciting - "Resident Evil: Retribution" and "Finding Nemo 3D" - but the films starting their limited releases have a bit more to offer, even if we won't get a look at them this week. Those films, however, include "The Master", "Arbitrage", "Liberal Arts", and "10 Years".

We saw a few other films outside of theaters this week, but most notably is the debate a few of us have on the newly released on DVD, "The Five-Year Engagement".

Also, as we're in the midst of the festival season, we discuss a few of the major players so far, and films generating the most buzz.

We're in the process of updating to a new digital process for these discussions, and this was our first week doing so. We're looking forward to perfecting this process and providing a better listening experience for you as listeners, but please bear with us through the minor glitches, as we assure you this is a process that moves us in the right direction!
Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

This week, two new releases hit theaters that all of us saw: "Lawless" and "The Possession" Two films we also discuss that are in theaters right now but weren't new this weekend are "Premium Rush" and "Beasts of the Southern Wild".

Next week's lineup includes the films "The Words", "The Cold Light of Day", and "Bachelorette". We discuss our thoughts on each, and pick out which film(s) we'll be opting for.

The only other films of note this week we watched outside of theaters included "V/H/S" and "The Hunter".

Another nearly hour-long edition this week, so be sure to tune in and give it a listen!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

This week, the only film that we all saw - but we did all see it - was "The Expendables 2". We make this film our big focus this week and talk about a variety of aspects that we loved about the film, some we didn't, and thoughts on future installments. "ParaNorman", "The Odd Life of Timothy Green", and "Sparkle" also released this weekend, but none of us saw any of them.

Next week's lineup takes a bit of a step back, but includes "Premium Rush", "Hit and Run", and "The Apparition". None of these get us too excited, but we do go over which we'd be watching if we do hit up the theaters this weekend.

The only other films of note this week we watched outside of theaters included "The Hunger Games", now that it got its DVD release, and "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen".

With our passions for "The Expendables 2", we bump our run-time back up to nearly an hour this week, but that's just more content for your listening pleasures!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

We got a few decent movies this weekend. "The Bourne Legacy" and "The Campaign" both released this weekend, and both provided for at least marginal entertainment. We go over both this week.

Next week's lineup includes "The Expendables 2", "The Odd Life of Timothy Green", and "ParaNorman". In smaller fashion, "Cosmopolis" and "Robot and Frank" both also start their theater runs. We discuss our interests here, and you can expect a detailed rundown on "The Expendables 2" next week.

Of the other films we watched this week, Andy goes over his thoughts on "Wristcutters: A Love Story". Not much else in this department this week though.

Another efficient chat this week, so be sure to give it a listen!

Thanks for checking out this week's edition of the Slackers Selection CinemaCast!

Again, not the biggest week, as we're in the midst of a mid-summer lull. But the majority of us still managed to get a viewing of "Total Recall" in, and discussed our thoughts on that.

Next week's lineup includes "The Bourne Legacy", "The Campaign", and "Hope Springs". We discuss our interests here, but Bourne looks as it will be the big topic of discussion next week.

Of the other films we've watched this week, we go over "Detention" and "The Bunny Game". One is worth a watch, the other not so much.

Another precise chat this week, so be sure to give it a listen!
