New Music from Attack Attack! and Matt Pryor (Get up Kids)...

Matt Pryor returns to the scene, and once again it's not with the rest of the Get up Kids, a band I grew up on to say the very least. Going the way of so many other ex-punkers, a la Chuck Regan of Hot Water Music, Matt releases his second solo album which can best described as Folk or Folk Punk.

In this gritty and raw new album "May Day", Matt mostly conveys uplifting messages while confronting realistic emotions and problems. Always the wordsmith, Matt has been accused of being one of the fathers of "emo", but call it what you will as he has just been putting out solid music for the better part of a decade and a half.

Released on January 24th, I cannot think of a better album to get you through the drab and depressing month of winter than this output of Pryor. So pick this up where ever music is sold and settle in by a fire place somewhere with someone you love and enjoy the softer side of this rocker. Totally worth the purchase or download.

Also, if you've never heard Matts other band The Get up Kids, or you are too young to remember their earlier stuff, also highly recommendable. A solid band from a solid era of Punk/indie rock!

The Attack Attack! boys are back with another angst and synth driven metal contribution to hit the ground running in 2012.

With classic metal over tones, these guys once again find nice balance in offsetting hooks and melodies while not losing their metal street cred. Their first single, "The Wretched" is a toned down, poppy track in stark contrast to the rest of the album. So if you make a knee jerk purchase based upon hearing this track, please realize you are buying a metal album.

All that said, Attack Attack! has contributed another solid technical and entertaining album. If you enjoyed past releases there is no reason to assume you will not equally enjoy this one which was released on January 24th. Album is available on itunes and can be purchased at Best Buy for $9.99.

Welcome to my newest blog devoted to the best and newest the underground has to offer. If it's punk, metal or indie we'll try and get it to you before your buddies are rocking it in their ipods. Check back often for posts and updates, and Ill post media as often as possible so you can check it out yourselves.

Punkers go acoustic...(again). Get ready (reggae inspired)skate-punk fans of the native Mesa, Arizona band Authority Zero. They are releasing an acoustic album called: "Less rhythm, more booze". The album comes out January 31st, 2012. Exciting considering this is there first follow up to there 2010 contribution "Stories of Survival", which reached #5 on the US Heat-seeker billboard.

As a bonus, it is actually a part of a CD/DVD combo so you get more bang for your buck.

"Big Bad World" by Authority Zero... track from 2010 release Stories of Survival.

Still bleeding!...the same day as Authority Zero, those whacky hardcore kids from Bleeding Through are right on schedule with a new 2012 contribution(they have released an album every two years since 2006). And not to disappoint here they are with Rise Records "The Great Fire".

Thanks to the folks at Rise Records for posting a preview of the song "Faith in Fire" on youtube so the warriors of the underground could check it out before we buy it. Without further ado;

They're not Canadian!!...Athens, Georgia based band, "Of Montreal", is back with their 11th studio album set to be released February 7th in stores. Still doing the psychedelic pop thing after finding some mainstream success, this indie band on the Polyvinyl Records label has been entertaining since their inception in 1997.

This newest contribution, "Paralytic Stalks", has been described as "very personal" content with even "dark" tones. And has been described as featuring a wide array of music from "pseudo-country" to more accurately "neo prog".

Here is preview of the song "Wintered Debts" which will be track 7 of 9 tracks on the upcoming album "Paralytic Stalks"...enjoy.
