LA Based retailer South Willard have launched their own clothing range for Fall/Winter 2009.  Echoing the familiar heritage theme which has been really strong this season it features some formal shirting, knits and collaborations in the shape of outerwear with Crescent Down Works, shoes with Quoddy and denim from Okayama Japan.

One of the new labels that has impressed me most this year is Heritage Research.  Ive lost count of the number of times that I have seen images of a brand’s products online, though they looked great and been bitterly disappointed when I’ve seen the product in real life… Heritage Research is the opposite, they look fairly normal online, but in real life the high quality production of designs that are heritage inspired yet with a modern wearable twist, that wont leave you looking like a wannabe lumberjack, are really quite special.  The latest drop from the label includes a pair of low yoke, tapered, corduroy Aviator Pants, a scooped hem and shawl collared, linen Naval Artillery Jacket and an amazing pair of denims, created in collaboration with Japanese denim aficionados Kuro, which are the perfect fit, not too baggy and not too slim.

The Hiroshi Fujiwara Nike Match Classic was originally released in spring 2009 as a Japan only exclusive for Jun Takahashi’s label ‘Undercover’. However, Nike have now released a Quickstrike edition globally which gives those outside Japan the chance to get their hands on them.  Featuring a refined version of the Japanese original with minimal branding and vintage effect application they come in red, black and brown.

French online magazine and creative agency BKRW have launched a new offline project, a physical space in Paris which is part gallery, office, showroom and pop-up store in equal measures.  To launch the space they have teamed up with one of France’s best known street artists JR to create an instillation and series of all over print t-shirts of photos taken by the children of Casa Amarela, a cultural centre opened in the favela Morro da Providência in Rio de Janeiro, supported by JR’s La Casa Amarela charitable foundation, which is also where all profits from this exhibition will go.

BKRW ’s new space can be found at 68 rue des Archives, Paris and is open to the public from 3.00 PM to 7.00 PM, Tuesday to Friday.

Formed in the summer of 1986 by DJs Terry Farley, Andy Weatherall, Steve Mayes and Cymon Eckles, Boys Own started life as a fanzine which celebrated their joint loves of football, fashion, narcotics and, of course, music.  It launched at the same time as acid house’s growing popularity and Boy’s Own quickly became an integral part of the scene, eventually launching a record label and lifestyle all of its own, and will still have men of  certain age getting all misty eyed when they reminisce about it now.  Berlin’s Firmament have collaborated with Boy’s Own and their in-house artist Dave Little, who took the illustration style of traditional English kid’s stories and mixed it with popular culture to create an subversive and iconic look, creating a collection of prints and t-shirts of the label’s original artwork.
