Not long ago we gave you a look at the Spring/Summer collection entitled “Erebus,” and the releases continue for this season with these 2 pairs of shorts. The first pair utilizes the same pattern that is used on the “Geronimo” buttondown and also boasts leather zipper pocket pulls. While, the second pair are broken tiger camo BDU shorts. The collection from Alden and Seattle based retailer Blackbird has seen some really impressive pieces come to fruition to date, and this Saddle Shoe is another exceptional silhouette.

Designed by Blackbird in collaboration with Alden of New England, custom bootmakers since 1884, this series of saddle shoes was inspired by Seattle historical figure, Frank Osgood and his horse drawn and electrical streetcars. His contributions helped Seattle become a more modernized city and dramatically changed its street culture, helping Seattle’s working man keep his shoes clean on his daily way through town and making his gal’s Sunday afternoon picnics at Lake Washington as easy as hopping on a trolley.

1884 – Frank Osgood, widely known as the father of Seattle’s public-transportation system, begins operating a horse-drawn trolley on Sept. 23. Passengers pay a nickel for a trip along steel tracks, laid in the mud of Second Avenue.

1887 – Osgood’s horses — known also as “hayburners” — have trouble with Seattle’s hills, so cars pulled by cables beneath the street are introduced. The Lake Washington Cable Railway, linking Leschi and Pioneer Square, is especially popular in the summer, when people ride along Yesler Way or Madison Street for a picnic at the lake.

1889 – Osgood unveils Seattle’s first electric streetcar, despite fears that the line would magnetize pocket watches and shock horses with stray bolts of electricity. On the first run, a car stalls, forcing passengers to push it to the end of the line.

Within days, horse-drawn trolleys are phased out, making Seattle the first West Coast city to offer fully electric streetcar service.

Since hearing of Jeffery Deitch’s move to the MOCA the west coast art world has been eagerly awaiting the new look Museum, whilst Deitch’s home town of NYC have been questioning what will happen to their local art scene. In steps Kathy Grayson, the hugely talented curator responsible for some of Deitch’s shows amongst numerous others throughout NY, including last years NY Minute Show is set to open her own gallery and with it the announcement that a large portion of Deitch’s 30 hugely sought after artists will follow her too. At this stage we don’t have any solid information, but we’ll keep you informed as soon as we do, stay tuned.

I’m sure we can look forward to a lot of great installations and exhibitions at the space, with the roster that Arkitip hold in their family, the first of which opens April 1st and is a new solo show by dutch artist Parra entitled ‘Yes, Yes, Yes’. Opening to the public on Friday 19th March will be Ryan McGinley’s new work entitled Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere at Team Gallery located at 83 Grand Street NYC. Giving himself the restraint of only working from out of his studio Ryan McGinley has produced a beautiful series of black and white portraits which reveal an open-study look at our youthful faces from around the globe, to the point where the art almost becomes a scientific awareness of our generation. Running through to the 17th April 2010, the exhibition will also include three large-scale images in color.

This is McGinley’s third solo show at Team Galley. A new monograph published by Dashwood Books will accompany the exhibition which includes a conversation between Ryan McGinley and photographer Catherine Opie.

Converse announces its Number (N)ine for Converse collection. Some of the last Number (N)ine products available from Takahiro Miyashita’s highly sought-after label, the  collection includes Chuck Taylor All Star and One Star shoes that will be available in February and will be followed up later in the year with new versions and Takahiro’s take on the Converse Odessa trainer.

The collaboration seems especially fitting for Takahiro who sees Converse as a sort of beginning and an end. “My childhood started with Converse” he says, noting that with the closing of Number (N)ine, that Converse has a special existence in relation to both his youth and the end of Number (N)ine.

Converse worked closely with Takahiro to create his interpretations of the Chuck Taylor All Star and One Star shoes, which Takahiro considers “authentic and permanent”. Taking a hybrid approach, Takahiro chose to incorporate the asymmetrical lacing of the 1970 and ‘80s era Converse Odessa shoe into his design. The Odessa shoe, which was originally designed for running, was super innovative for its time and a shoe from the Converse archives that Takahiro has long admired. Following the Chuck Taylor All Star and One Star versions, Converse will debut the Number (N)ine version of the Odessa trainer in early 2010.

The collection includes an oxford version of the Chuck Taylor All Star shoe with premium deer skin, yellow shag suede uppers, asymmetrical lacing and a metallic gold star on the shoe’s heel. A One Star version is also available in premium deer skin white shag suede uppers, asymmetrical lacing and a silver metallic star on the shoe’s heel. The shoes global launch will occur March 13, 2010 at select retailers globally. All shoes will retail for $140 and will be available in unisex sizing.

Having been absent from the menswear runway shows in his home grounds of Tokyo for more than twenty years, Yohji Yamamoto has decided to become part of the scene once again despite any financial troubles. Tokyo Fashion Week happens within the next month and we can expect that Yohji’s presence at this years will set a new standard for the Japanese industry. “The men’s fashion is suffering in Japan, so I hope to light a fire” he stated to WWD recently so of course, we here at Slamxhype are really looking forward to the coverage from his show.
