Jeff Berlin is a legend of the electric bass. Simply put, he is considered by many to be the finest electric bass player in the world. Surprisingly, he is a pioneer of slap bass when he brought this new percussive-style bass playing in 1979 to the second Bill Bruford album, “One of a Kind”, on the tune called 5G. Jeff also pioneered two handed tapping when he performed this style on Motherlode from his 1985 release of his first solo album called “Champion”. When these styles began to catch on with other bass players, Jeff stopped playing these styles.

couldn't find a solo clip but had to mention Mark Adams of the funk outfit, Slave. A worthy contender for the up there with the best club!

"I've been fortunate in Slave that the band has always given me space to be a melody instrument and to lead the groove. I talk through my bass and step forward like a lead singer riffing; I'm constantly in freestyle mode. Steve calls it "annointing bass." I also look at my bass like a drum kit, using my thumb for the kick and my pops for the snare-like Larry Graham does. That's what I did on "Just a Touch of Love" [from Just a Touch of Love, Cotillion]. I don't know how Slave grooves like it does. It's hard to put into words, but it will always be in us."

Doug Wimbish (born September 22, 1956) is a bass player, primarily known for his studio work for the rap/hip hop label Sugarhill Records and his membership of the funk metal band Living Colour. He has played for a vast range of artists, including Jeff Beck, Mick Jagger, Madonna, George Clinton, Bomb The Bass, Depeche Mode, Joe Satriani, Mos Def and Tarja Turunen. Wimbish is considered to be a pioneer in hip hop bass playing and in the use of bass effects.

He is also the former guitarist for Dué le Quartz, which disbanded in 2002, and was credited under the name Miyabi (雅, Miyabi?). Upon Dué le Quartz's dissolution, Miyabi announced that he was going to initiate a solo career and changed his name to Miyavi, releasing his debut album Gagaku soon after.

(born June 7, 1958) is a Swedish bass guitarist. He has collaborated with John McLaughlin, Ustad Sultan Khan, Fazal Qureshi, Bill Laswell, Shawn Lane, Jens Johansson, Michael Shrieve, V. Selvaganesh, Mattias IA Eklundh and Buckethead.

Hellborg began his music career in 1976 in Sweden touring with local rock acts. He was spotted by percussionist Reebop Kwaku Baah in a small club in Stockholm 1979 and he moved to London for a year to work with Reebop on different projects. He played the Montreux Jazz festival in Switzerland in 1981 and met Mike Brecker who introduced him to John Mc Laughlin, Billy Cobham and other fusion stars. He was asked to join John Mc Laughlin’s reformed Mahavishnu in 1983 and he stayed with Mc Laughlin until 1988 touring and recording with Mahavishnu and also doing several duet tours with McLaughlin during this time. In 1986 and 1987 he toured with a project featuring Ginger Baker on drums and Bernie Worrell on keyboards

is a Canadian jazz musician born 1955 in Saint-Éloi, Quebec, the youngest of 11 children. He is considered to be a virtuoso 6-string bass guitar player, playing fretted, fretless, and MIDI bass. His musical skills were formalised by correspondence lessons with the jazz improvisation teacher, Charlie Banacos, and by attending a summer session at Berklee College of Music.

This geeky lookin chap blew my sox right off!!! Perrrfect in every way!
