Novembers Doom

Muzika mi, očito, puno znači u životu. Ona mi služi kao zvučna kulisa kad radim, služi mi kao katalizator misli, služi mi kao alat pomoću kojeg se divim umjetnosti, usrećuje me, podiže mi serotonin, inspirira me i ispunjuje me.

Također, muzika mi je vječni i sveprisutni pratitelj u gotovo svim životnim situacijama.

Pa eto, tako se ja jedno večer vozim na svom vjernom bajsu kroz šumu, kroz mrkli mrak i samo moje malo bicikl-svjetlo osvjetljava put i mjuza na ušima koja tjera tišinu.... i počne svirati Six Sides -- sedma stvar s novog albuma od Novembers Dooma koji se zove Aphotic.

I jebote... al ga praše dok se vozim kroz črnu šumu i samo se konture i siluete drveća vide dok moje malo svjetlo osvjetljava put... Doživljaj -- spektakularan.

Stoga, Novembarški Dume, ovo virtualno pivo je za tebe i tvoj novi te prejebeni album!

Pisah te piskarah opet o lijepom nam našem slavenskome metalu, a gdje drugdje neg' na Metal Reviewju.

U ovom izdanju crnih šuma su pozornost privukli i zadržali Slovenci pod nazivom Dekadent koji sviraju melodični te nekako čudni blek.

Osim njih, malo smo se smijali Rusima, ali smo svratili bogmež i u Bjelorusiju. Pa aj ti reci.

Contemplating about Scott Kelly

I was recently to a Scott Kelly show that absolutely blew me away. Talk about intense stage presence. It took me awhile to get my thoughts together on it, and even begin writing....I thought I was just gonna give up all together on the article, but then I forced myself to sit down and just start writing the damn thing.

Will Lindsay - A Page from a Tour Diary

The ever busy and versatile musician, guitarist/bassist Will Lindsay (Indian, Wolves in the Throne Room, Nachtmystium), honored us at Metal Review with a mini tour diary, and a list of the artists that kept him entertained during this (long) voyage.

Here's how the story began:

It was the spring of last year. Mr. Lindsay was touring with Wolves in the Throne Room, and I was the PR rep for a band that opened for them. We were all, naturally, early arrivals at the club, doing the paperwork, setting up merch stands, doing soundchecks, eating pizza that the organizers bought for us, drinking (mostly) free beer... And mostly, we were all just hanging out before the show starts. It is somewhere in between those beers and cigarette smoke that Mr. Lindsay and I decided that we had this very promising capacity of being good friends. And thus, good friends we became.
Not a year later, I ask Will if he would do Metal Review the honor of being our guest for the March edition of Staff Infections. At this time, Will is on tour playing bass for Nachtmystium, and he’s talking to me every day from another town he’s playing in. He’s also doing an insane amount of driving, and he’s listening to music while performing his driving duties. Once again, Mr. Lindsay and I decide it would be a good idea to present to our readers a fragment of what it’s like to be on the road, touring with several other bands. What is written below is just that, courtesy of our man Will Lindsay.

So, I've started writing for Metal Review, and with all the other things I have going on, it's been hard to keep this here blog alive and kicking.

Uništavači svega - Ulcerate

Slatki zvuci smrtnog metala, zemite me sad.

Nisam još imala prilike pisati o ovom kiwi* bendu, a bogme su zaslužili svako slovo koje pronađe njihov put.

Prvi susret s ulceričnima (čitaj: prekrasno brutalan death metal, s naznakama genijalnosti) desio se 2009. godine kad su izdali odličan Everything is Fire album, koji je bio njihov drugi po redu, ali prvi za poremećenu izdavačku kuću pod nazivom Willowtip koja uzgaja bendove kao što su: Arsis, Afgrund, Cephalic Carnage, Gorod, Impaled, Kill the Client... Treba li se majke ti još nešto reći?

Nije prošlo niti pune dvije godine, kad eto Ulcerate opet na vratima ubojitog metala i nije već siječanj pošteno ni započeo, a momci već postavili jebeno visoke standarde za tekuću nam godinu.

Naime, ako odete odmah sada, istog trena na Metal Sucks, imat ćete priliku eksluzivno čuti novi album pod nazivom The Destroyers of All. Drugim riječima, imate priliku već sad čuti sigurnog konkurenta za album godine.

Ja upravo slušam i uši mi plaču mi od sreće. Plaču, e.

Black Metal Releases 2010

2009 was a crazy year. There were so many (outstanding) releases throughout the entire year that I could barely keep track. Also, 2009 was terrific for black metal and seeing how black metal is one of my favorite genres, the one genre I most love to explore, read about and discover new gems, I wanted to keep track of those albums that were coming out most of all. And so, when 2009 slowly started to reach its end, I wanted to check out if there was a black metal album that I had maybe missed amidst all of the great madness of 2009. Naturally, google junkie that I am, I tried to find a list of BM releases for that year, but such a list was nowhere to be found. Sure, there were Wikipedia music lists, Amazon users must buy lists etc., but nowhere did I find a list of strictly black metal releases for that year. I found that somewhat frustrating and so I decided to make a list myself for the upcoming year of 2010 to make sure I don't miss anything. I also decided to share it with you guys.

Now, the list I share with you here is in no way an entire list of all 2010 BM releases, but primarily a list of BM albums reviewed on Metal Review that had a tag black beside the review. The minority of albums that weren't reviewed here, I mostly picked up on while reading Invisible Oranges, Teeth of the Divine and Lurker. I also always double checked the album info, release dates and labels on Metal Archives.

The list includes ALL breeds and hybrids of black metal such as: post, progressive, industrial, symphonic etc. The main criteria were the tags here on Metal Review and on Metal Archives - if those two sites labeled an album as black, on the list it went.

There's a total of 146 albums here with links to MR reviews, if there are any, so just click and read, and hopefully you'll discover something new or simply solidify your love for an album. Whatever you do with the list, have fun. I sure did.

Amaseffer - Pillar of Fire

Netko se možda čak i sjeća da je na ovom blogu već bilo riječi o Amasefferu, izraelskom progresivnom bendu koji je 2008. godine izdao odličan prvijenac Slaves for Life. Budući da padam na izraelske progresivne bendove, pogotovo ovako dobre, željno iščekivah neke konkretne vijesti o predstojećem albumu ovog trojca pod nazivom, When Lions Leave Their Den iliti drugi dio priče o Egzodusu.

E pa sa zadovoljstvom objavljujem da su momci prerezali vrpcu za prvo-otkrivenu stvar s novog albuma. Stvar se zove Pillars of Fire i može se poslušati ovdje. Ja je bogmež slušam već treći put zaredom i ako je ova stvar indikator onoga što nas čeka na novom albumu, već sad se veselim 2011-oj jer će bude jebanje mame!

Crtica o klavijaturama

PAŽNJA: geek post.

Moglo bi se reć' da ja ne volim klavijature u svojoj mjuzi. Moglo bi se to reć', al' to ne bi bilo skroz istina.
Ja naime volim klavijature, ALI isključivo kad se one odrade na određeni način u pjesmi jer ako su klavijature krivo odrađene, lako se sjebe cijeli album koji bi inače bio dobar bez njih.

Način na koji ja volim da se klavijature odrade je da se one stave u pozadinu, prate gitarsku melodiju, ali joj također i daju dodatan ton i služe atmosferi. No, to treba biti napravljeno tako dobro da stvar ne bi bila ista bez tih klavijatura. Npr. ovo je meni jedna od najdražih uporeba klavijatura u pjesmi:

Prva stvar s Fenova albuma Malediction Fields. Ne samo da klavijature pridonose atmosferi ove stvari, nego fakat ne bi bila ni upola toliko prekrasno emocionalna i atmosferična da nije tih klavijatura u ključnim dijelovima pjesme i u njenom klimaksu. Dobrost.

Ondak, manji intenzitet klavijatura, ali jednako dobro inkorporirane u stvar (ali, s druge strane, o kojoj se pjesmi radi, bilo bi blasfemično išta drugo govoriti):

Weakling, druga stvar, istoimena albumu Dead as Dreams. Album je remek-djelo, riječi su suvišne pa tako i baljezganja o klavijaturama.

Pa kaže. Sljedeća stvar je primjer pjesme u kojoj malo, al ono zera fali da klavijature ne prijeđu u kič i cirkuški metal, već te klavijature dobro tu hodaju po rubu i uspijevaju držati ravnotežu da to ipak ispadne ukusno i pjesmi koristi, a ne suprotno.

Khors, peta stvar s njihovog albuma iz 2008, Mysticism. Inače, još jedan dokaz da se s Ukrajincima nije za zajebavat kad se radi o paganskom metalu. Skoro pa im nema ravnih.

Dakle, otprilike jedino kad mogu podnijeti klavijature da su glasne i u prvom planu jest ovako:

Jeste bogami, Deep Purple razvaljuju u Japanu davne 1972.

Stoga, Dimmu Borgir i slični bendovi se ljubazno mole da se klone daleko, daleko.

Hebanje psihodeličnih majaka

Titan ti je ime.

Prošle godine je bend koji kao da je ispao iz davnih nam te divnih nam 70-ih godina, Astra, bacil me na dupe i to na drugi kraj sobe kad sam poslušala njihov album The Weirding. (A bogme me još uvijek hiće kad ga slušam!)

Ove godine su to učinili retro dečki iz Brooklyna koji su odlučili napraviti nerede svojim novim albumom nazvanim Sweet Dreams. Praše pravi stari, al ono vintidž prog rock s elementima space rock-a pa svi vi koji uživate u Hawkwindima i inim bendovima koji su svojedobno hebali majke, nemnojte nipošto propustiti ugrabiti ovaj album.

A album, na sreću svačiju i sveopće veselje, se može u cijelosti poslušati ođe klikni.

A ako želite prvo kušat prije no što poslušate sve, evo nešto da vas bacaka po prostoriji.

Doomsday King Stream

Mnogo cijenjen melodično-smrtni švedski bend The Crown se raspal 2004. godine ostavljajući za sobom ucviljene mnoge obožavatelje (čak su si neke moje kolege i istetovirali cover art na prsa, doslovce). Nedavno su se ponovno okupili, potpisali za Century Media izdavačku kuću i samo što eto nije izašao njihov novi album Doomsday King.

U to ime, jedan od većih te boljih webzinetova Metal Underground eksluzivno streama novi album na svojim stranicama do ovog petka pa naval'te narode i ocijenite je li novi vokalist Jonas Stålhammar (God Macabre) dostojna zamjena Johanu Lindstrandu.

Voice of the Seven Woods

There is just something different about this act. I’ve had my fair share of psychedelic, hazy, progressive, folk rock, but this one here grabbed me good, and the grip is tight, and it aint letting go.

As with most things I’ve come to enjoy the most, and cherish in that special gimme-more-more kinda way, this too is a one shot kinda deal. Meaning, Voice of the Seven Woods is a project. One album released, no more, no less.

The man behind the steering wheel of this one-timer, is a British guitarist named Rick Tomlinson who, beside this amazing, self-titled piece of work, released a bunch of EP’s on 7'' vinyl, and you can find him today touring under the name Voice of the Seven Thunders, alongside his colleague musicians Chris Walmsley on drums and Pete Hedley on bass.

The Voice of the Seven Woods, the album, consists of 10 songs that some refer to folktronica or freak-folk. Although these terms would be quite accurate, the old-fashioned person that I am, is gonna call it as one of the best, most mesmerizing psychedelic folk rock albums that came out in the last few years. It was released in 2007 on both CD and vinyl, and the US version is the only VotSW release that can still be found in stores.

In the ten songs, you're not gonna find just one style of music, dedication to one subject or exploration of just one theme, you're gonna find melodies that instantly scream of memorability and unique style of folk-themed acoustic guitars (Sand and Flames or Sayai Nova), a tune that wails with its bluesy, psychedelic guitar (Second Transition) and hazy, rare vocals on the nostalgic side, floating in reverb (Dusk Cloud).

So, ye fans of good music, enjoy your dose of the Voice of the Seven Woods, and be prepared to spin it many, many times.

The Nightmare Accompanied by the Katechon

I have nightmares sometimes, and sometimes, if they’re vivid enough, I write about them. I actually draw a lot out of my dreams for my writings. The last really terrifying nightmare I had, some of the MR community members had the chance to experience, because I woke up in the middle of the night and starting babbling about it on-line, since I couldn’t think of another way to shake the fear off.

Not to go into depths about what my nightmare was about, let’s just say it was vivid and it involved lucid dreaming and false awakenings. If you experienced any of these phenomena, you know that having a nightmare while you’re lucid dreaming and falsely awakening is some scary shit right there, dudes.

When you deal with scary stuff, i.e. when you experience it, you will, more often than not, also deal with post-traumatic stress. It can last for a day, it can last for a week, or, if you’ve been fucked good, you just might need therapy. I had a small trauma from this nightmare I’m rambling on about, and was kinda hoping for the next few nights that I will not have the same occurrences again, ‘cause a girl really needs her sleep. And, after about a week, it wore off. More specifically, the fear had worn off, other “side-effects”, however, came into light…

Now I know a little bit about dreaming from some of my studies of Freud and Lacan, and I know about how images in dreams are a latent representation of one’s subconscious, but I have become strangely fascinated with this dream, with the false awakenings and the whole lucid aspect of it. I started to research and read about it, and came to realize that there is more, so much more about my dream than meets the eye. I’ve learned that by peeling off the layers of the dream, one by one, you can come to torrents of meanings, symbols, latent messages and the exploring could go on forever. It was a process. From the night the nightmare had occurred to the sensation that there are things there that require close examination, that possess depth that can stretch above and beyond, and that I will keep on discovering as long as I have the will, well, it was an overwhelming feeling.

There was just one other time that I encountered that exact same feeling and the same process of realization, and it was when I first heard Deathspell Omega’s EP Veritas Diaboli Manet in Aeternum : Chaining the Katechon.

The first time I listened to it, I thought to myself, now this is some scary shit. It had that sinister undertone to it, the same kind a nightmare leaves as an aftertaste of its messing with you when you’re not prepared, and while I didn’t need therapy, I was kinda hoping for the next few days that I wouldn’t hear it because a girl really needs her non-scary-shit music. And then, after about a week, the side-effects kicked in. Yep, I became strangely fascinated with the Katechon, with its layers, its philosophy that can stretch above and beyond, its symbolism and its meanings.

At this point, I couldn’t stop listening to it, trying to decipher the enigmatic feeling that arouse every time I was hearing it, at the same time being overwhelmed with the fact that my dream, my nightmare, something that came from inside of me, provoked the same feeling as a piece of music, something that was coming from the exterior and had nothing to do with me. I was/am captivated with that music that allowed me to be scared by its seriousness and, at the same time, allowed me to consider it beautiful, and worthy of much thought. It allowed me to sit and ponder about how it transcends genre classification and how music can serve as a vessel for philosophy simultaneously being glorious while it’s doing it… Much like a nightmare does.

The two became synonyms, the Katechon and my nightmare, I couldn’t think about the one without thinking about the other, and I am still spellbound by both, equally.

So, folks, enjoy my nightmare.

Angst Skvadron - Oh the Sweet Poison!

Angst Skvadron plays depressive, psycedellic, alien death metal, or ‘what ever the hell you want to call it’ music!

Ova rečenica stoji na službenom myspaceu ovog divno bizarnog norveškog benda. Uz nepostojeću biografiju, jedino što znamo jest da je ovo dijete Trondra Nefasa, najpoznatijeg po njegovom dugogodišnjem angažmanu u Urgehalu. Možda će nekome ova informacija biti dosta, ali ne dajte se zavarati jer ovaj black metal veteran, zajedno s kolegom iz In Lingua Mortua, L.F.F.-om (iliti Lars Fredrik Frøislie) na bubnjevima te rumunjsko-norveškom vokalisticom O.M.P.-om (iliti Otraviom Morfin Piller), na albumu Angst Skvadrona nam nudi mnogo, mnogo više od crnog metala kakvog ste navikli slušati u Urgehalu i drugim sličnim bendovima.

Za početak, Sweet Poison je album posvećen ponajviše vanzemaljcima i iako teme vanzemaljaca nisu ništa novo u svijetu metala (sjetimo se samo Hypocrisyjeva albuma Abducted, Voivodova The Outer Limits ili pak cijelog vanzemaljskog benda Valient Thorr), nov je sigurno način na koji Angst Skvadron prezentira te teme.

40 minuta dug, ovaj album već s prvom pjesmom, Valium Holocaust, nudi zlokobno obećavajući početak i daje do znanja da se ne radi o konvencionalnom metal uratku: počinje sa sablasnim rifom, sporim ritmom bubnjeva, zlim muškim vokalima te ženskim zavijajućim vokalima nalik na one iz starih horor filmova poput The Fearless Vampire Killers. Drugim riječima, ako se zakačite na prvu stvar na albumu, zakačit ćete se i na cijeli album.

Druga stvar, Aerophobia, iako nastavlja u istom zlokobnom tonu, nam daje i malo black 'n' rolla na gitari i već konvencionalnije rifove, ali, da stvari ne bi niti na trenutak bile uobičajeno metalske, opet se sve završava horor teatralnošću.

Posttraumatic Stress Syndrome započinje paranoičnom dionicom na klaviru imitirajući nijeme filmove da bi se ista melodija nastavila kao gitarski lajt-motiv pjesme. Opet, zvučni efekti horor i SF filmova 50-ih godina prošlog stoljeća.

Sljedeća pjesma, Dolcotine Blues, prva je s čistim vokalima kojim se pjevuši „dječja“ bajalica: „a half will take you to the moon, one will take you to mars, one and a half and you're really feel well, two will take you to hell“, za kojom slijedi solo koji nije za bacit.

Vraćamo se na zle vokale, horor zvučne efekte i slatko sablasne melodije pomiješane s pravim „frosty“ rifovima i interemezzima kojima se „ispraćaju“ vanzemaljci koji odlaze sa Zemlje nakon što su vjerojatno u letećem tanjuru iz 1947. godine eksperimentirali na ljudima.

Da skratimo priču, opisivati ovaj album nije lako, ali jedno je sigurno, a to je da nema pravila. Ako slušate jednu stvar i očekujete da se album nastavi razvijati u tom istom tonu, ne bute to dočekali jer ovaj album vrvi upravo svime: jezovitim melodijama i melankoličnim melodijama („We Miss Them“); pravim blekerskim rifovima i paranoičnim gitarskim dijelovima; vrištećim crnim vokalima i čistim tamnim vokalima; nostalgičnim gudačkim dionicama i šifozreničnim , džez dionicama na gitari i, povrh svega, vrvi zvučnim i produkcijskim efektima iz starih horor i SF filmova. Međutim, ništa od ovog, ni na jedan trenutak ne zvuči nepromišljeno ili nabacano – ovi dečki i cura su točno znali što rade i što žele postići.

Pa da zaključimo: iako ovaj album sigurno nije za svakoga, ako ste ikada slušali i cijenili bendove poput Ved Buens Ende ili Virus i ako ponekad volite da vaš metal bude bizaran, psihodeličan i izazovan, najsrdačnije preporučam Sweet Poison.

Crtica o Bloodbathu

Kako starim, slušam sve manje death metala, a sve više crnine od metala iliti bleka. Međutoa, dolazim danas s posla, umor me pere i pustim si Bloodbath i majke ti al paše. Mislim si, kako i zašto dosta ekipe s kojom pričam nije čulo za ovu švedsku super-grupu? Se morti družim s krivim ljudima il' se ljudi jednostavno drže starih provjerenih bendova kao što su Obituary, Hypocrisy ili Death?

A Kupka od krvi prži, Mikael (Opeth) se dere, car Swanö (Edge of Sanity, Nightingale, Moontower) ubija bubnjeve, a Katatonia momci (Renske i Nyström) na svojim gitarama ozbiljno shvaćaju svoje dužnosti.
Za one koji ne znaju, ova četiri člana su osnovala ovaj projekt kad su u jednom trenutku odlučili da žele napraviti svojevrstan hommage "tru" death metalu. Nakon toga je Mikael malo otišao napraviti zvijezdu od Opetha, pa ga je došao Peter Tägtgren zamijeniti, a Swanö se (nažalost) prebacio s bubnjeva na gitaru dok je bubnjarske dužnosti preuzeo, sad već poznati, Martin Axenrot - Axe koji iste dužnosti danas obavlja u Opethu. Tu se priča malo zavrtjela i Bloodbath više nije bio puki projekt, već postaje ozbiljan bend, ali meni je svejedno najdraži njihov prvi album koji upravo slušam, Resurrection Through Carnage koji je snimljen upravo u originalnom postavu benda.

Nema ovdje izmišljanja tople vode, nema pokušaja da se udahne novi, do sad nečuven ton i život death metalu, ovo je jednostavno dobar, stari, muzički kompetentan death metal, rađen po PS-u (pravilima struke, jel) - i rađen dobro. Stoga svi vi koji niste kušali ovu Kupku od krvi, nukam da učinite isto.

Winterfylleth, crno-metalni bend iz Manchestera koji paganski štuje svoje anglo-saksonske pretke (naziv benda inače potječe iz starog engleskog jezika te je nekadašnja riječ za mjesec listopad), izdat će novi album The Mercian Sphere 19. 07. tekuće nam godine.

Dečki su svoj prvijenac pod nazivom The Ghost of Heritage izdali 2008. za Profound Lore izdavačku kuću što je za prvi album zaista uspjeh. Nakon što je album pobrao hvale kako od metalnih slušača, tako i od kritičara, 2009. godine potpisali su za Candlelight izdavačku kuću opet dokazujući kako itekako privlače pažnju većih kuća.

Nabrzake rečeno, Winterfylleth je bend koji se polako, ali sigurno penje prema vrhu ljestvice današnjih black metal bendova. Sve hvale koje su dobili za svoj prvi album su bile zaslužene, a sad imamo priliku čuti stvar s novog uratka koja je jednako dobra i potiče znatiželju i nestrpljenje za novim albumom.

Drudkh - novi album: Handful of Stars

E pa današnji Season of Mist newsletter me usrećio da umalo zaplakah.

Pa kaže. Nakon što su re-izdali cijeli Drudkh katalog, ovi ukrajinski black metal pjesnici, kako ih nazva njihova izdavačka kuća, spremni su na sljedeći korak, a to je novi album.

Stoga, Drudkhov novi album će biti izdan 20. rujna i zvat će se Handful of Stars.

Razmak između njihova posljednja dva albuma (Estrangement i Microcosmos) je bio dvije godine što navodi na pitanje jel' momci jednostavno pršte od inspiracije (nadam se da da) ili moraju ispuniti neke ugovorne obveze kad izdaju novi album tako skoro, što najčešće vodi k albumima gore kvalitete. Morat ćemo (vrlo, vrlo, vrlo nestrpljivo) pričekati i ocijeniti sami.

Valient Thorr Are All Out of Bubblegum

Well, okay they didn't say that, but they did come here, from Venus, and they sure as hell are out of that bubblegum, 'cause these dudes kick some serious ass.

Valient Thorr are a group of intergalactic duders that crashed on Earth (North Carolina, specifically) in 1957 (so, they waited ten years after the Roswell incident, not to cause too much suspicion, I suppose), having traveled through space for several thousands of years. Originally, they're from a place called Burlatia that's located somewhere on the planet Venus, and, apparently, they're huge stars there, because if you google-image Burlatia you get a bunch of pics of Valient Thorr themselves.

It is my humble opinion that us Earthlings should feel honored that VT chose to come to Earth to "warn Earthlings about the error of our ways, delivering a message of redemption wrapped in rock n’ roll, with pounding drums and shredding guitar licks". So, hey, if you have a message delivered in the form of pounding drums and shredding guitar licks, I'm all ears baby.

With hard rock as the means of their communication with us Earthlings (and they do mean hard rock when they say it), they have been delivering that message since 2003, when they self-released Stranded on Earth (I guess they were homesick), but for their next three releases they got some help from Volcom Entertainment who thought the message to be of importance.

So, with this post I would like to honor and thank Valient Himself, Eidan Thorr, Voiden Thorr, Dr. Professor Nitewolf Strangees and Lucian Thorr for coming to our rescue and for giving us, among other things, A Thesis of Infinite Measure located on their second message from 2005 - Total Universe Man, and Infinite Lives (no less) located on their last message - Immortalizer.

Dudes, don't stop saving us.

Dragi naši samoborsko-zagrebački Pozoji su potpisali svjetski izdavački ugovor (svjetski, znači ima da bude njihovih albuma po cijelom svitu) s uglednom talijanskom kućom code666.

Nakon što su se 2004. godine braća po bendu, Intoxicate i Grob spojili, nastao je J.W.Pozoj i izdao svoj prvijenac Birth of Pozoj 2006. godine za požeški Progressive Attack Records. Nedugo nakon toga je uletio Ivan Borčić kao novi vokal, zamijenjujući Darka Šimunovića (koji je takođe još uvijek vokal u samoborskom sastavu True skupa s Pozojevim gitaristom, Filipom Fabekom, basistom Markom Balabanom i bubnjarem Lukom Kovačem) dok je Slaven Milić preuzeo sviranje basa umjesto Domagoja Šoića - Kuge.

U novom sastavu, Pozoji su prošle godine sami izdali svoj drugi album Escape of Pozoj, koji je pobrao hvalospjeve od prestižnih metal časopisa i web-zineova kao što su Decibel Magazine, Metal Underground i Teeth of the Divine koji je album proglasio "modernim klasikom uz albume kao što su Om (Negura Bunget), Dead as Dreams (Weakling) i Blood in Our Wells (Drudkh)". Bogme usporedbe koje nisu za bacit.

Upravo je taj album dečkima donio izdavački ugovor s kućom koja je izdavala bendove kao što su rumunjski velikani atmosferičnog black metala, Negura Bunget, legende talijanske progresivne metal scene Ephel Duath, francuske blekere Amesoeurs, enigmatične The Axis of Perdition i druge.

Code666 će reizdati Birth of Pozoj već ove jeseni, a reizdanje Escape of Pozoj se očekuje 2011. godine. Ali! To nije sve! Ovaj lejbel će, naime, izdati i zadnji album u trilogiji, još neobjavljeni Return of Pozoj, a bogme i još jedan koji će uslijediti nakon trilogije.

A svi mi koji imamo eksluzivne, ograničene primjerke prva dva albuma možemo do tada uživati i čekati.

I tako ovim postom, Nevermore i službeno postaje najzastupljeniji bend na ovom blogu. E pa neka je kad su uspjeli proizvesti još jedan, dugo očekivani, vrhunski album za koji će uskoro ovdje i osvanuti neka recenzija. (Kad ga smognem prestati slušati i jednostavno uživati u njemu te početi razmišljati o istomu.)

Današnje novine vezane uz Nevermore tiču se njihova novog spota za stvar Emptiness Unobstructed koji su odlučili jučer premijerno pokazati na horor sajtu Bloody Disgusting.

Dane je na službenom blogu Nevermora komentirao kako su se, tijekom snimanja spota, u biti više-manje zajebavali šećući lijepim Doverom u Engleskoj prije gaže u O2 Akademiji Islington u Londonu, gaže s koje su i uzeti live dijelovi za spot. Spot im je radio Nigel Crane, lik koji je radio i za Lacunu Coil, Slipknot i Pitchshifter (što i nije baš obećavajuće, ali ajde čovjek bar ima ime u određenim krugovima).

Da ne duljimo, pogledajte vrlo nepremijerno spot za jednu od, već sad, meni najdražih stvari s novog albuma - Emptiness Unobstructed. Viva la Nevermore.

Hailing from a town known for it's legendary garage and punk-rock acts such as Sonic's Rendezvous Band, MC5 or The Stooges to name a few, this Detroit act "has been a musical anomaly in their hometown of Detroit", as cited on their homepage, because they play an atmospheric style of americana with a very immediate and sincere feel in their musical approach.

Formed in 1995, American Mars released its debut album, Late in 1997, after which the group went on a hiatus. Six years later, they released their second album No City Fun, to much critical acclaim.

Long Walk Home is the first song off their latest album, Western Sides, released in early 2008.

A band that doesn't cease to amaze the music scene since 2002 and a band whose melodies, arrangements, riffs and ideas have been inspiring awe for the last eight years has not only been long recognized as one of the greats in this our metal community, but also as one of the bands whose constant refusal to perform gigs, give interviews or promote themselves in any traditional fashion has kept them shrouded in mystery.

Despite the fact that Drudkh doesn't do concerts or any PR activities, they still manage to be a band most talked about when a new album is about to be released, and they still manage to attract attention of large indie labels such as Season of Mist.

After being signed to Supernal Music for the better part of their career, in 2008 they signed a deal with French label Season of Mist that decided to re-release the entire Drudkh's back-catalogue bringing joy to fans worldwide.

Season of Mist also launched a first official Drudk Myspace page which was the first official Drudkh anything, really.

Drudkh released their latest album Microcosmos in 2009, making its way to many year-end lists with the song Ars Poetica being a master-piece for itself.

Indikativno je da Nechochwen nećete naći u Encyclopaedii Metallum jer, govoreći iz vlastitog iskustva, ekipa koja tamo radi vjerojatno misli da ovaj bend nije "dovoljno metal" da bude svrstan u njihovu bazu od više od 73 000 bendova. Međutim, iako je to zamjerka čuvenom sajtu s čuvenim problemima definiranja žanra pri svrstavanju bendova u svoju arhivu, istina jest da je Azimuths to the Otherworld prvi album ovog umjetnika koji usađuje u svoj muzički izričaj metal elemente.

Nechochwen spada u, danas sve popularnije među umjetnicima, one-man bendove koji su odlučili iz razno-raznih razloga raditi sami. Taj jedan umjetnik koji se krije iza imena Nechochwen (što, uzgred rečeno, znači "biti/stajati sam") je Aaron Carey, amerikanac s indijanskim korijenima i to njegovo indijansko porijeklo je ono što čini tematski (i, u manjem dijelu, muzički) temelj ovog albuma i ono što ga čini jedinstvenim u svijetu (folk) metala.

Priča iza ovog albuma (koji se može smatrati nastavkom prvijenca Algonkian Mythos) je priča koja seže u prošlost indijanskih kultura zvanih Adena i Hopewall koje su u svojim ritualima tražile sigurne prolaze za svoje mrtve u područje "iza smrti" iliti "Otherworld". Tako je album tematski povezan ovom okosnicom drevnih indijanskih rituala pokapanja.

S muzičke strane, ovaj je uradak zanimljiv s nekoliko aspekata.

Prvo, osvježavajuća novina koja krasi ovaj album su elementi indijanskog folka, odnosno, zvukovi ritualnih bubnjeva, zvečke, načina pjevanja, ili bolje rečeno naricanja/zazivanja i svih ostalih formi muziciranja i vokaliziranja koji vas odmah bacaju u američku pustinju, u platneni šator natopljen znojem drevnih Američkih Indijanaca prilikom provođenja nekog rituala. (I još jednom možemo zahvaliti holivudu.)

Drugo, albumom dominiraju 3 snažna, međusobno isprepletena aspekta: metal, atmosferičnost i akustična gitara.

Metalni zvuci koji su dominantni ovdje su zvuci black metala i ako uzmemo za primjer prvu stvar s albuma, Allumhammochwen - The Crossing, oni se izvode tradicionalnim blekerskim blast beatovima, osrednje zlim blek vokalom, prilično solidnim rifovima i tremolo pickingom. Ono, po PS-u.

Atmosferičnost se gradi već spomenutim indijanskim folkom, reverb električnim gitarama te tu i tamo reverbnim gudalima.

Najdominantniji aspekt ovdje je obilno upotrijebljena akustična gitara, ali za razliku od drugih metal uradaka koji upotrebljavaju akustičnu gitaru (a njih ima mnoštvo), umjetnik koji svira ovu akustaru ima klasičnu naobrazbu i to je nešto što se neizbježno primjećuje jer usred svih tih metalnih zvukova, odjednom vam uši miluju zvuci klasične gitare kakve ćete čuti kod velikana kao što Paco de Lucia ili Al di Meola.

U pjesmama kao što je Charnel House čuju se opethovski rifovi, stvar pod imenom At Night May I Roam neodoljivo podsjeća na Agalloch, na pjesmi Hunting Among the Stars poželjet ćete da ste negdje u zapadnoj Virdžiniji ispod punog mjeseca i da vam je ime, npr. Bizon Koji Je Volio Mjesec dok ćete slušajući Graves of Grandeur kontemplirati o jednostavnoj ljepoti te pjesme.

Uzevši sve to u obzir, imate pred sobom progresivno-folk-blek-indijansko putovanje i album neizostavan za slušanje i rangiranje u 2010.-oj godini.
