You can define apnea as the medical term for that pauses in breathing some experience within their sleep. It is an ailment suffered most often within adulthood. Both the persons genetics and his physical traits increase risk for the disorder. Diagnostic exams confirm apnea conditions, and treatment can be medical or not, depending on the outcome of the assessments. Other determinants that shape the therapy are the patient’s way of life and perspective.

The condition when a person’s breathing ceases or becomes a lot more shallow is called apnea. Officially, it takes ten mere seconds of no breathing to define apnea. Apnea may also be defined as the ensuing cessation of breathing through high oxygen concentration within the blood. Also, apnea during sleep results in the abovementioned, and can take one of two paths. One can experience possibly lighter sleep or getting out of bed. To measure the severity from the condition, episodes are monitored throughout a two hour cycle.

There are tests you are able to perform yourself to see if you want further testing. But as apnea occurs inside your sleep, it seems just like a completely ridiculous suggestion. Rather, you should ask someone you reside with to administer the exam for you personally. There are three kinds of apnea. Central sleep apnea is brought on by dysfunction in the the main brain that signals the lungs to consider a breath. This type of apnea generally occurs in adults but in some instances, infants also develop the actual disorder.

After that, there’s obstructive sleep apnea, that has four primary characteristics. First, the airway is merely jammed, whether it be one’s own tongue or perhaps a foreign object. Secondly, a crack at breathing should have failed. Next, it may be the blood’s low oxygen content. Fourth, the reflex to consider a breath kicks in since the brain detects the reduced oxygen level. For individuals with this affliction, doctors usually look for a tighter than usual air passage.

When one suffers through both central and obstructive anti snoring, he or she is classified as a mixed sleep apnea victim. It is important in order to diagnose and treat sleep apnea as it can certainly result into some very precarious circumstances which range from an inability to focus and stay aware of heart problems. The effects make an impact in all aspects of your life, whether asleep or conscious.

Each kind of apnea has its corresponding treatment. In some cases like in obstructive sleep apnea, surgical treatments can be agreed to reconfigure the physical structure that triggers the problem. Otherwise, behavioral therapy is going to do. Also, a polysomnograph is a diagnostic test used on patients who are afflicted by obstructive sleep apnea. The polysomnograph results will know what the next steps are going to be in treating the anti snoring problem. As with other things, this polysomnograph test will be different by individual so the therapy options will also vary with respect to the severity of the issue and how well the test works for you personally. All the elements stated above help define apnea, and also helps you grasp a better understanding on this sleeping disorder.

CPAP:

CPAP is a treatment method to treat patients suffering from sleep apnea. CPAP stands for continuous positive airway pressure device. Sleep apnea is a sleeping disorder in which the person stops breathing for 10 to 30 seconds at night time while sleeping. Symptoms associated with sleep apnea are snoring, daytime sleepiness and upper airway obstruction during sleep. These short pauses while breathing can happen up to 400 times every night. A person suffering from sleep apnea does not sleep well due to the stopping periods of breathing.

Need for CPAP device.

CPAP is used to treat obstructive sleep apnea disorder; characterized by daytime sleepiness, snoring, and upper airway obstruction while seeping. Risk factors of this disease are hypothyroidism, acromegaly, obesity and increased neck circumference which leads to impaired cognitive performance, swing of moods and reduced quality of life. Some experts report that daytime sleepiness is associated with higher risk of motor accidents and poor performance at work place. If obstructive sleeping disorder continues for long time, Baseline blood pressure reduction may develop in hypertensive patients and may lead to surgeries and medical interventions. So the best treatment is to eliminate the contributing factors by using CPAP. Long term treatment with n-CPAP can effectively improve the sleep quality and reduce the daytime sleepiness.

CPAP-Working:

A CPAP device contains tubes, a mask and a fan. This device uses air pressure to push the tongue forward and open the throat which helps in passing the air through your throat. The use of CPAP reduces apnea disturbances and snoring. CPAP device does not cure sleep apnea but it helps in reducing the symptoms associated with this sleeping disorder and get a good sleep. Using CPAP over a long period of time reduces both mortality and blood pressure elevation caused due to sleeping disorder, sleep apnea.

Common problems with CPAP:

Some common problems associated with CPAP when you are wearing it and the possible solutions are explained below.

1. You may feel that your nose is stuffy and dry when you wear it. The remedy for this problem is to use a humidifier to moisten the air coming from CPAP device.
2. Wearing mask may be uncomfortable for some people at night. Choose the type of mask that fits well for your face and keep trying until you solve the comfort problems while sleeping.
3. While wearing mask, some people can’t keep their jaw closed. So use a chin strap that holds the jaw to keep the air in.
4. If the person does not used to the wearing mask, Talk to your doctor about any alternative treatment.

Disadvantages of CPAP:

One of the major disadvantages of using CPAP device is non-compliance. It is known through some studies that some users abandon the use of CPAP or use it only for a fraction of nights due to uncomfortable feeling while sleeping. Many people hesitate to use this treatment method, because this machine masks the nose and looks clumsy. Some patients get used to CPAP within few weeks while others struggle for long time, and some people discontinue treatment in the beginning itself. Some people reported side effects like dizziness, sinus infections, ear pain, nasal congestion and dry eyes after using CPAP.

Using CPAP treatment reduces the symptoms associated with obstructive sleep apnea and prevents the necessity of any surgeries or medications in long term. Patients suffering from sleep apnea must use CPAP everyday to treat sleep apnea in the early stages.

Sleep Apnea and Erectile Dysfunction are co-related to each other . A male suffering from sleep apnea may suffer from erectile dysfunction as both co-exist very commonly . In a condition of sleep apnea throat of a person collapses during sleep and makes it difficult for a person to breathe properly . The condition of sleep apnea is so malignant that it effects the sex life of a person and leads to erectile dysfunctions . The problem of sleep apnea is really serious as it works like a slow poison and instead of not being very painful like other severe diseases , it usually kills the sex drive of a person by effecting erections in a male people initially , and then leads to other problems like high blood pressure , heart disease and poor sugar control .

A research by “The Journal of Sexual Medicine” on June 29 , 2009 by a group from Donaustauf, Germany proves that sleep apnea and erectile dysfunction are correlated . 401 men were surveyed and examined by the group to find if they were suffering from sleep apnea . The shocking results of the study were that 69% of men who were suffering from sleep apnea were also suffering from erectile dysfunction , compared to 34% of men who were fortunate enough and were not undergoing the condition of sleep apnea . The research by the group proved that “sound sleep” in men is a big reason for having better sex lives . Just like many other activities amid sleep , men also gets frequent erection during their sleep and this can be treated as a big proof for linking sleep disorders with low sex drive and erectile dysfunction .

Sleep Apnea is classified as obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea . The former condition is very common and is generally the result of rapid weight gain , though it is not only confined to overweight men . The latter kind of a sleep apnea is due to failure of the proper signalling of the brain to the respiratory muscles .Men with either kind of sleep apnea have an obstructed testosterone patterns and can be linked to the capability of maintaining proper erections.Apnea is not only confined to hormones like testosterone but is also responsible for destroying those REM cycles during which men are supposed to get morning erections . For a good sexual health and performance REM erections becomes very important for men . As reduction in REM can possibly leads to lower erections in men . A recent study performed at Cornell University also reveals that about 80% of men suffering from sleep disorders faces problem to maintain erections for longer .

A proper diagnose is very important to treat the problem . If any men suffers from erectile dysfunction then he should inform his doctor about any of the deformity in his sleep patterns as it will be of great help for the doctor to diagnose and treat the problem .Regular exercising to shed extra weight is very effective in combating with the problem of sleep apnea and to maintain a good sex life . Sleep Apnea and erectile dysfunction should not be taken lightly and needs immediate medical supervision.

The term Bipap otherwise known as bi-level positive airway pressure is a type of breathing apparatus that usually helps people to facilitate the flow of air into their lungs. This type of machine was created in the ninety’s from CPAP that stands for continuous positive airway pressure. There are some people who do not understand what these devices do and how they help the human beings. Well, these devices are largely used to help in treating of breathing difficulties and particularly the obstructive disease that is known as sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is a big problem if a person has it. It is a situation whereby the upper airway of a person collapses. This situation then causes the breathing to stop temporarily but in repeated manner. People who suffer from apnea usually wake up with an enormous rousing snore. Their sleep quality is very poor and can sometimes lead to some mental problems like lack of concentration and depression. Sometimes the physical help of a person can deteriorate.

The cpap machines work by aiming to maintain a certain air pressure within the mask a person wears while asleep. The pressure that is extra will allow the user to sleep well by keeping the airway open. The disadvantage with this is that the person normally has to exhale against the pressure that is extra.

The bipap machine helps in allowing the air delivered through the mask to be set at a single pressure for inhaling and another one for exhaling. This factor makes the bipap to be easier for the patient using it to adapt. It also allows the people who are suffering from neuromuscular disease to use. The dual settings allow the people to use it in order to get a lot of air in and also out.

The usefulness of bipap extends up to the patients who have congestive heart failures and some lung disorders: those which result to above levels of carbon dioxide that are normal. In addition to this, those patients whom the intubation process is not possible can easily benefit from breathing assistance that is offered by bipap machine. The people who suffer from atelectasis are also big beneficiaries of the bipap machine. The situation of atelectasis is when a part of the lungs or all of it collapses and result to the loss ability of the air sacs that are farthest in the lungs to expand effectively.

There are tests that doctors can do to person to find out if bipap would be beneficial for someone who has atelectasis. The common one is the respiratory test that involves the patient breathing into the machine to measure the lung capacity. The other one is known as forced vital capacity. It normally tests the deep breathing of a person. The tests mentioned will not show if someone has sleep apnea, but further sleep tests will.
Bipap machines are normally covered with medical insurance however; it is possible for a person to purchase one independently. If the is not feasible, then a person will have to rent a bipap from a respiratory company.

About Sleep Apnea
Sleep Apnea, commonly known as snoring disease is curable using sleep apnea drug treatment. Sleep apnea is a common physical disturbance in which a person pauses in breathing while sleeping. Breathing temporary stops last from 10 to 20 seconds. It happens 5 to 30 times or more an hour. and normal breathing then starts with a loud snort with chocking sound which disturbs bed partner or others. This is the physical condition while sleeping, a person is unable to get enough air thorugh mouth and nose into lungs. As a result the amount of oxygen in his blood may decrease and person often snores loudly. But it is not compulsory that everyone who snores has Sleep Apnea.

Types Of Sleep Apnea
Sleep Apnea has mainly three types and can be cured using sleep apnea drug treatment. It has follwong types:
1. Obstructive sleep apnea is general type of sleep apnea. It happens when the soft tissue of one’s throat stops for some time and causing a blockage of the required airway resulting loud snoring.
2. Central sleep apnea is a is uncommon type of sleep anpea because it is related with the central nervous system of the person. It happens when brain is unable to communicate with the muscles which controls the breathing system in human body.
3. When obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea comes together and affects human body , resulting Complex sleep apnia occurs. It is very rare.

Sleep Apnea reatment
Sleep apnea is a curable physical disorder. Treatment and cure for sleep apnea is depends on the seriousness of the disorder. Here are so many people who suffered from sleep apnea took suitable treatments, now they are living there life as usual and sleeping without any problem. Drugs have not been very helpful in sleep apnea and not recommended by doctors. Only in some special situation drugs can be taken. In the most cases sleep apnea disorders, the doctor recommends change into the lifestyle like quitting smoking and weight loss. However if these methods don’t work then here are medical treatments can be tried in the form of drugs and surgical remedies. They are following:

Modafinil is the first drug to treat the sleep apnea associated with obstructive sleep apnea. This is the common medical remedy which prescribed to the person who suffered from sleep apnea. Medicine is available in the form of tablets. But
Modafinil has some side effects also and it is strongly recommended that patient should intake this medicine under the doctor’ prescription. Side effects like Anxiety, depression, confusion, hallucinations, Chest pain and high blood pressure can be seen. But not everyone who takes Modafinil has to face these side effects.

Armodafinil is a another medical remedy that can be taken in sleep apea disorder. This is helpful in obstructive sleep apnea and in Narcolepsy means, person who works in night shifts or who sudden changes between day and night working shifts. Armodafinil is a good medication. It is an approved treatment for them. Like any other medicine Armodafinil has also side effects. Not everyone who intakes Armodafinil has to side effects. Side effects like headaches, Nausea, Dry mouth, Insomnia and Dizziness. These are common side effects of Armodafinil.

So Modafinil and Armodafinil both are sleep apnea drug treatments should be taken under the guidance of medical experts.
