Country singer Slim Whitman, the high-pitched yodeler who sold millions of records through ever-present TV ads in the 1980s and 1990s and whose song saved the world in the film comedy "Mars Attacks!," died Wednesday at a Florida hospital. He was 90.

Although many songs about the boll weevil were recorded by blues musicians during the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s, this one has become well known, thanks to Lead Belly's rendition of it as recorded by folklorist Alan Lomax in 1934. A 1961 adaptation by Brook Benton became a pop hit, reaching number two on the Billboard Hot 100.

In the early 1960s he was considered a "teen idol". According to Allmusic music journalist Kim Summers, Rydell, whose interest in show business began at the age of four years, "is one of the most sought-after nightclub and concert acts in the US. His performance in Bye Bye Birdie and his recordings "Wild One" and "Volare" made him a famous performer in the 1960s. Rydell used his talents as an impersonator and drummer mostly in pursuing a musical rather than an acting career.

Jørgen Ingmann (born 26 April 1925) is a musician from Copenhagen, Denmark.
He worked with Svend Asmussen, the jazz violinist, during the 1940s and part of the 1950s.

During the late 1950s he changed his stage name to Jørgen Ingmann and his guitar. Under this name he recorded "Apache" in 1961, which charted at #1 in Canada on the CHUM Chart, #2 in the United States on the Billboard pop singles chart, #9 on the Billboard R&B chart, #4 on Cashbox, and #6 in Germany. He remade Silvana Mangano's "Anna" with moderate US chart success. In the first half of the 1960s he had many hits in Germany like "Pepe" (1961 #15), "Anna" (1961 #19), "Violetta" (1962 #16), "Drina Marsch" (1964 #5) and "Zorba le Grec" (1965 #14). Billboard magazine reported that he charted at no. 2 on the Denmark pop singles chart with his recording of "Marchen Til Drina" on 7 December 1963. His recording reached no. 1 on 17 December 1963.

Songs of his included "Tequila" (which he also recorded during the 60s, with the Champs) and a version of Pinetop Perkins' "Pinetop's Boogie Woogie" (from 1962).

He worked as a member of the duet, Grethe og Jørgen Ingmann, together with his wife Grethe Ingmann. After winning the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix competition in 1963, they went on to represent Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest where they won with the song "Dansevise" (Dance Ballad), music by Otto Francker and lyrics by Sejr Volmer-Sørensen.

He and Grethe met in 1955, married in 1956, and divorced in 1975.

In 1968, The Vogues released their remake as a single. This version was by far the most successful, reaching #7 on the Hot 100 and #3 on the Adult Contemporary chart.

The name of the group was originally The Essos, after the oil company, but was changed to match the then-new Ford automobile, the Edsel. The Edsels recorded over 25 songs and had multiple performances on Dick Clark's American Bandstand. The Edsels were one of the few doo-wop groups to sign with a major record label, as most groups of that era found success with small independent labels. Before their national hit "Rama Lama Ding Dong," songs like "What Brought Us Together," "Bone Shaker Joe," and "Do You Love Me" helped the group land a major recording contract with Capitol Records in 1961.

Today, the group is known almost exclusively for their song, "Rama Lama Ding Dong." The song was recorded in 1957 and released, under the erroneous title "Lama Rama Ding Dong," in 1958. The song did not become popular until 1961.

The Reflections was the name of a number of musical groups.

Perhaps the best known were a blue-eyed soul/doo-wop group from Detroit, Michigan. They had one hit single in 1964 called "(Just Like) Romeo and Juliet", written by Bob Hamilton and "Please Mr. Postman" songwriter Freddie Gorman. The song was produced by Rob Reeco on Golden World Records. The disc reached #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and #9 on the Cash Box magazine chart. The record was even more popular in rhythm and blues locations, reaching #3 on that Cashbox chart. After a few more records that were moderate successes on the national charts, Ray Steinberg left the group for other interests. As a foursome, The Reflections continued recording and making TV appearances. In 1965, they made their one-and-only movie appearance in Winter-A-Go-Go, performing "I'm Sweet On You".

They were signed to the same Detroit R&B label, Golden World Records, as their blue-eyed soul peers, The Flaming Ember and The Shades Of Blue.

Today, The Reflections are one of many popular groups touring various oldies venues throughout their home state of Michigan and all over the States. Original members Tony Micale and John Dean are now augmented by three other members from various regional doo-wop groups: first tenor Joey Finazzo, baritone Gary Benovetz, and first tenor Sal Prado.

Freddie and the Dreamers were an English band who had a number of hit records between May 1963 and November 1965. Their stage act was based around the comic antics of the 5-foot-3-inch-tall (1.60m) Freddie Garrity, who would bounce around the stage with arms and legs flying. The group remained active until December 2000 when they played their final gig at Margate Winter Gardens. After that date, Garrity was told by his doctor that due to his pulmonary hypertension it was not advisable for him to continue working, and he officially retired from all work in February 2001. He died in Bangor, North Wales, on 19 May 2006.

The Classics IV was a band formed in Jacksonville, Florida, United States, in 1965, given credit for beginning the "soft southern rock" sound. The band and its lead singer Dennis Yost are principally known for the hits "Spooky", "Stormy", and "Traces", released in 1967 to 1969, which have become cover standards.

Released in late 1958, the single reached #12 on the Billboard Hot 100; it was also a top five hit on the 1959 R&B chart. Highlighted by Jimmy Beaumont's lead singer powerful vocals, and the counterpoint between his falsetto and Janet Vogel's soprano, on her final chorus, the song is considered by many, including oldies fans, one of the best "heartbreak" ballads ever recorded; it is a classic of pre-Beatles rock and roll.

The Skyliners were/are an American doo-wop group from Pittsburgh fronted by Jimmy Beaumont. The original line-up included Wally Lester, Jack Taylor, Joe Verscharen, and Janet Vogel. This quintet constituted the formal group of vocalists; they were backed by a variety of Pittsburgh musicians including Joe Dalu, a drummer from Pittsburgh's Manchester neighborhood, who also played with local favorites Ray and The Furys (COED Label, 1959).

King Harvest was a 1970s American rock band, best known for their 1972 hit single, "Dancing in the Moonlight".

"Dancing in the Moonlight" is the title song on the 1973 King Harvest album Dancing in the Moonlight. The track was released as a single in 1972 and it reached No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. The band released other singles, but those were never able to match the success of "Dancing in the Moonlight". The track used a Wurlitzer electric piano throughout.
