The Shocking Truth About Slicetruck Pizza

We make our own dough, sauce, sausage, salad dressing and cookies.
Sausage goes on the pizzas raw and is cooked with the rest of the pizza.
If you create an account online and order online, THEN you get $10 back for every $100 you spend. AND since our prices include tax you're actually getting a bonus on taxes that you paid. This is UNHEARD of.
The plastic piece under your pizza inside the box prevents the crust from getting soggy
We buy bricks of mozzarella cheese and shred it on site.
We only have one type of oil in the shop, extra virgin olive oil.
We're very unsure about our name. We started as a truck and its hard to find a meaningful original name for a pizza shop.
Writing twitter posts is very hard.
A few people were offended by the nicknames they got on the last mailing.
We have a hotbox truck that can deliver 100 pizzas over 100 miles while keeping the pizzas piping hot.

"Never bet against Harbaugh"

Got this advice from a guy who said he knew the Harbaughs growing up. So, I don't know. I'm pulling for the Ravens. Reason being, I've decided to root against the alpha brother Jim and for the guy who's gotten less glory on his rise to the top, John. In college my buddy Travis always referred to Jim Harbaugh as Jim Horrible while betting against the Colts. I was surprised to find he actually made the pro bowl once or twice. But then really they kind of let anyone who's actually interested in playing play in that game.

Super Bowl pizza delivery will likely be slow so be cool. No problem for some of you and quite a tall order for others. Either way, no matter which you are, we'll be sure to get you a hot pizza and an accurate estimate.

The Holiday's are Over

I mark the NCAA Championship game as the official end of the holiday's. Tough break Notre Dame, even with a 10 point spread I just can't imagine anyone would have put money on the Fighting Irish. I think God was too busy caring for The Baby Jesus to get too involved in this game.

Above is a photo of the front of our pizza shop. I like to try and remind people that we are actually a restaurant and not a food truck. We named it Slicetruck because we started with a pizza truck and just couldn't think of a new name for the store. You should try naming a pizza place. Very difficult to find something no one is already using and real easy to fall into the lame trap of throwing some meaningless Italian name into it or a "papa" or "mama" into the name.

Also, I thought you should know since paying customers are pretty much like family, I had a baby boy on January 2nd and even though my brother and I are not Italian, the kid is (a little) and it should help with the taste of our pizza. He's also a big Catholic (we let him make his own decision on religion) so that ND loss really got to him, even though I told him not to get his hopes up.

End of Year Christmas Thoughts

First off we're going to be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We will have normal hours other than that.

Its a time of Sharing and instead of sending everyone gifts I'd like to share some thoughts. Some might see this as a last minute half baked attempt at a Christmas card but I think of it more as the greatest gift you'll probably ever receive.

Are we supposed to be most thankful at Thanksgiving? Christmas or New Years Eve?

I kind of feel most Thankful now and historically have felt more thankful around Christmas, but I will give credit to Thanksgiving for getting me warmed up.

Maybe you just look back more at the end of the year, but you really have to look back to be thankful. You should be thankful for a reason right? Not as a state of mind, like being positive?

Would recommending starting a food business to someone as a practical joke be crossing the line?

Jokes are supposed to be funny for everyone.

Is it possible to say anything positive about your kid to someone else who has children without it becoming a silent unspoken battle of whose kids are greater.

Just wondering. I've got a kid due any moment and I don't want to be the annoying bragger that I can see happening.

Really anytime anyone has ever said anything about their kid to me throughout my life I've always thought I'm sure my unborn un-conceived child is better but I'm the bigger person here and will let this person have the glory of this moment.

Turns out people prefer to pay a little and get a lot. Quantity over quality is THE American way.

Its not the magazine you get while riding on American Airlines. I refer to that as The American Way Magazine. One is good and one is bad.
The million dollar idea is to make people think they are getting more and better quality stuff for a lower price than the dumb ass down the block who won't stop bragging about their kid.

There is a great disparity between New York Pizza and L.A. Pizza? There is a exponentially greater disparity between Holiday time in New York City and Holiday time in L.A.

Did you hear that NPR story about if Wal-Mart paid $17 an hour America would be like the greatest place to be in the history of the world?

I don't know what it is but there's something to this. Maybe if Walmart share holders donated their shares to something that makes this happen?

I'd like to have a stat. What percentage of Wal-Mart's ($10 and under workers) payroll gets spent at Wal-Mart?

I think I'm going to sell the pizza truck and keep the shop. Its hard to do both. They're a different type of focus.

It would be easier if we could park the truck behind the shop but that's against the rules.

I'm a Merry Christmas guy. Not in the Bill O'Reilly way where its a Merry Christmas you godless scum but its in the sharing spirit. Me saying Merry Christmas says I'd like to share with you that during these Happy Holidays my current focus is on Christmas and on the 27th it will be have a great New Year and on the 1st to the 10th it will be Happy New Year. or Happy New Year's? I don't know but it is weird when you get the Happy New Year greeting in February. Its just too late and its a bit sick like you're really caught in the past or you picked up some disorder saying happy new year to people and you just can't stop.

Where I was going was that if you say to me Happy Kwanzaa and you don't seriously celebrate Kwanzaa then your either making fun of me or people who celebrate Kwanzaa and its not cool. Jokes should be funny.

I will be interested to see the outcome of this vote. I know a lot of people really can't imagine how someone could vote for Romney and then there are a lot of people that can't imagine how someone could vote for Obama BUT I honestly can't imagine the person who would purposely vote no on prop 37.

But then had some mixed feelings when I saw what they posted about us on Yelp. All feelings aside, in life, I do love this type of stuff, find it interesting and am curious what provoked it.

Is Slicetruck New York (style) Pizza?

No, our pizza is not made in New York, AND after all the different pizza I've had in New York, I'm not sure what specifically people are referring to when they refer to New York pizza or tell me that we don't quite have New York pizza. I've had great Neapolitan style pizza baked in coal and wood ovens and I've had a some great pizzas that were hand tossed and cooked in classic deck ovens while being on New York City ground. These are both very different styles of pizza and I can't figure which one would be "New York" but where I'm really going with this is that for every great pizza place I've been to in New York I've been to 40 that are completely unremarkable and often times terrible. ALSO it should be noted that there are no shortage of Domino's, Papa John's and Pizza Huts in Manhattan along with the other 4 boroughs. Are these New York pizza? Sbarro's was started in New York and became quite an operation while positioning itself as "mall pizza". Is Sbarro's New York pizza?

After all this nonsense I'm writing I will say this; the top 10% of pizza in New York is better than the top 10% of pizza in any other city in the United States. I'd bet it goes for the world too. However I've never traveled Italy, so really I have no idea. I haven't even really traveled the United States.

The point is that its silly when people talk about New York pizza being so great or the pizza "back east" as if every place is great. Its not. Similar greedy people are in New York and California making pizza with the cheapest ingredients possible trying to make the largest profit margin off each pizza sold. This is BY FAR the majority of all pizza places in the country. Everything boils down to money. I don't know but I would bet California Pizza Kitchen had better pizza before it was bought out and rapidly expanded. It gets bought and then they do some taste tests, "this cheese tastes the same as this cheese and its 30% cheaper" done, change it. "This sauce recipe tastes the same, maybe better and its 50% cheaper" change it. "This oven is easier to use and makes pizzas faster" Brilliant!. I would bet Sbarro pizza was unbelievable before it was bought out the first time.

Here's a picture of possibly the worst pizza place I remember going to in New York City (Ray Bari on 3rd ave. and 55th in Midtown). You should go there next time and taste for yourself:

Vegan Pizza in L.A. (what? where?)

Just a heads up to any vegans. If you order our pizza without cheese (or meat obviously) you will then have a vegan pizza. This is a fact and I promise its true. Just order a pizza with no cheese and load up the toppings and you'll be in great shape at Slicetruck. I'm perfectly aware of what is and is not vegan and I do promise if you leave meat and cheese off your pizza at our shop you will then have a vegan pizza.

I eat them from time to time myself just to cool down my calorie intake and I'd have to say they are delicious.

Went to this concert, had a great time and picked up a lot of new dance moves for myself. Always liked the way these three really seemed to be good friends. MCA for whatever reason was always my favorite.
