I'm Vitaly, I run Deals and Community Operations at Slickdeals, and I'm excited to share some important updates with you.
Some of you may know, some may not, but Slickdeals will turn 25 in November which is a dinosaur age of the internet, having started in 1999. Reaching 25 years is a remarkable milestone for any company. However, with this longevity come challenges, particularly in maintaining and updating our legacy technical infrastructure. We have recognized that our current system limits our ability to rapidly introduce new features without major wholesale changes and provide the best possible user experience in small iterations.

The Slickdeals community team has been working hard to make Slickdeals the best it can be for over 20 years, and new updates roll out to the community almost every week.

As a part of that effort, we'll be merging the Classic version of Slickdeals with the latest version of Slickdeals over the next 12 months.

You can anticipate the following as part of that platform merger:

Our community is what makes our site truly unique. We rely on feedback from you to determine which of the deals posted here are worthy of being elevated to a Popular Deal and then possibly promoted to be featured as a Frontpage Deal.

As of a few days ago, some of you have been invited to try out this redesigned homepage as part of a limited beta. The feedback we gather will help us refine the experience before a wider rollout.


What's New
Here's a quick rundown of what you can expect in this new design:

New Feeds to Simplify Browsing: We've listened to your feedback and reorganized Frontpage Deals into its own dedicated feed. Along with this, we've introduced new feeds like For You, Popular Deals, and top categories. This updated layout ensures that your favorite Frontpage Deals stay front and center, while helping you quickly discover other deals that are most relevant and exciting to you.

On Slickdeals, our skilled editors and online community share and vet each deal. Your votes are what uphold the Slickdeals quality standard and make the experience better for everyone.
For most Slickdealers using a desktop browser, we're placing the upvote/downvote buttons more prominently on deal pages. Previously, these buttons were underneath the product description and much less visible on a browser. No more scrolling all the way down to leave your input!

Hello Slickdealers, we have made some optimizations to the engine powering activity streams within user profiles that will affect how some people use the Classic Activity Stream. Here is a summary of what is changing:

Classic Activity Stream (Private) - Going Away

The Classic Activity Stream (Private) will be going away. However, actions will continue to be displayed in Classic Activity Stream (Public). You can configure what is displayed in your Public Activity Stream on both Classic and Redesign here.

Today marks a milestone on a multi month project to improve the ways Slickdeals benefits your shopping and saving. Starting last summer, many community members new and old came together to provide feedback on opportunities to improve the Slickdeals homepage.

This past November, community members tested various design options. Community members shared over 9,000 feedback submissions. Today, Slickdeals deployed the first in a series of updates that will result in an evolution of the Slickdeals homepage.

Not to brag, but we know you already find and share the most-vetted deals and the best coupons on the internet right here (not to mention all the extra savings you get if you have the Slickdeals Extension!)...But wait, there's more!

As of this evening (Nov 8th), about 10% of all community members will see a freshly redesigned Frontpage and Deal Details page. The fresh designs are a mini first step in a series of updates that will come in the next 12 months to help you save more and discover new ways to help fellow community members. The design also strives to better welcome new community members.

This thread will act as an FAQ and place for discussing the changes.

What is new?

- Visual Design: The new design adheres to current Web standards. The new design appears on both the Frontpage and the Deal Details page.

You may remember me from announcements such as this that are expected to be especially rare, like this one from just two months ago.

We know that many in our community are aware that the seller Antonline has not been allowed to be shared in posts on our site for several years. At the time that decision was made, it was the result of a continued pattern of violations of our rules and policies, specifically with regards to manufactured content and/or feedback, aka "shilling". While we admit we are far from perfect, we do spend a great deal of time and effort towards preserving the trust of our community, in part by minimizing the influence such disallowed activity has on our site. Unfortunately, this means that in cases such as this, we need to block a merchant (a site, seller, brand, etc) from being posted.

In late 2021, we made the decision to disallow further deal posts for dailysteals.com or any affiliated third party storefronts at other marketplaces. While it's unfortunately necessary for our teams to make this type of decision at times with respect to a particular merchant (a site, seller, brand, etc.), such actions are typically the result of that merchant repeatedly violating our site's policies regarding manufactured content and/or feedback. However, in this particular case, we were largely responding to repeated complaints elevated by our community regarding accuracy of product listings, order fulfillment issues, conditions of items received, and difficulties arising from seeking resolution to any such problems through their customer support channels.

Slickdeals is on a mission to help students save. We're offering four $5,000 scholarships to exceptional students so that they can focus less on their finances and more on their academics.
