Creators of Gateway Marketplace — an extensive 36 acre shopping mall located near 8 Mile Road in Detroit set to open on the 10th anniversary of "8 Mile", the movie — look to have Eminem present at the opening... Tami Salisbury, director of the Eight Mile Boulevard Association, tells CBS Detroit:

"I mean we would be open to that, we would be grateful to have him, I think it would be great for him to be part of the opening of the retail center, it would be great, so we do intent to reach out to him."

Recording Industry Adds Song Streams To Gold, Platinum Certification

The Recording Industry Association of America is expanding its RIAA Gold & Platinum Awards Program to include song streams on the internet. Eminem is among the select artists listed to receive digital single awards counting both downloads and streams in the first round.

The gold and platinum certifications will be based on data from on-demand streaming services like Spotify and Rhapsody and video streaming services like YouTube and Yahoo!. Previously, only song sales had been recognized.

D12's Kuniva recently tweeted this previously unseen photo of himself, Eminem, Proof, Lloyd Banks, DJ Whoo Kid& Bizarre "thuggin'" in Japan in 2003...

This photo of Eminem seen with somebody who looks like his ex-wife Kim was recently discovered by a fan and posted on the web.. We can confirm that the pic is from no later than November 2, 2011 and most probably taken on or around that date.

Eminem's half-brother Nathan 'Nate Kane' Instagrammed this previously unseen photo of Eminem with the caption: "Me, Gunit, 50, My Brother and Trick Trick at My Bros Wedding #tbt I was drinkin a little bit lol"

Eminem has been announced as a performer at this year's Pukkelpop music festival in Hasselt, Belgium on August 15! Check out the line-up here.

This adds to Eminem's scheduled gigs in Slane Castle, Ireland (Aug. 17), Glasgow Summer Sessions, Scotland (Aug. 20), Stade de France Paris (Aug. 22), Reading Festival (Aug. 24) and Leeds Festival (Aug. 25), England.

Eminem Opts Out of "Southpaw"

In what may come as good and bad news for fans, Eminem will most likely not play the lead in "Southpaw" – the movie about a welterweight champion who makes a comeback to the top after hitting rock bottom, to earn the respect of his young daughter – which was supposed to mark Em's comeback to the silver screen.

Los Angeles Times reports that the rights to the film has been bought by The Weinstein Company (famous for its successful Oscars campaigns) & Eminem has since opted out of the venture, to concentrate on his music.

Meanwhile, Cinema Blend reports the director Antoine Fuqua saying that Eminem is still part of the film & his departure is still not set in stone.

Heart Soul Detroit photographer Jenny Risher talks about interviewing and photographing Eminem for her book:

"Maybe, yeah, (I caught Eminem at the right time). I don't think I would have gotten the interview with him [a few years ago]. But in a way, now, it kind of makes it more special, because he doesn’t do any interviews. And any time he does do something, he really means it. He doesn't need to pimp his latest album. Eminem is the best-selling artist of the decade. He doesn't need to do my little book.

Eminem (was completely different from his public persona). It took me two years to get a shoot date, and then six months to get the interview. The shoot was done atCoachella, in Palm Springs. I went there and photographed him at... the Parker Palm Springs Hotel. We got a little conference room and set up our backgrounds. But they had like five of his security guards come up and sweep the place, and then they stayed after they swept it just to make sure it was cool. Even though I had been conversing with his managers for two years, and they knew me pretty well, I guess it was just a precaution. You never know. There are crazies out there. [Eminem] comes in and he's just the sweetest, nicest guy, [not] the big personality that he once was or is maybe still in there. He was just quiet and nice.

He's 40 now, so probably a lot has changed since he was 20. But he's just so sweet and so nice. We talked about pretty much everybody in the book. He was excited that Emanuel Steward was in it, because I guess Emanuel had trained him.

(Eminem's saying that he occasionally goes to Walmart) surprised me the most. He's a real person. He definitely loves his daughters, loves his family. He loves just being at home. I don't see him as a flashy guy."

Eminem's Next Album Due 'Post-Memorial Day'

Eminem's manager Paul Rosenberg has told Billboard that Eminem is "far into the process" of crafting his next album, which he said will be released only after Memorial Day (May 27) in the U.S.

He said, "It’s safe to say that it will be post-Memorial Day at some point, but we’re not exactly sure when. We've got some dates locked in for him to perform live in Europe in August, so we're trying to see what else lines up."

"I actually started jotting down and writing things when I was like 12 or 13. I started, almost, mimicking other rappers, just trying to figure out what I wanted to sound like. As years went on I got more serious with it, to the point where I felt like I might be actually good enough to do this.

"I love Detroit. It's the city that I love. It's the city that I'm used to. You know what I'm saying? I'm very much a creature of habit. I moved around a lot as a kid. I think that once I got somewhere where it was, I don't know how you say it, comfortable enough, once i got comfortable I was never leaving."
