Some time we may accidentally delete a file, but how do we recover it? There are a lot of tools available to download and try but we don't know which is the helpful one. Recuva may be your choice if you really need it urgently and free of charge.

To all computer users from beginner to advanced user, you may or may not encounter a situation where the file accidentally deleted. How do we recover if we already empty the recycle bin?

Once it happened you may quickly connect to internet and search for the tools that can assist you or call up your friend for advice. If you search from internet there may have more than hundred of result links return. The links you click will direct you to some shareware or freeware website for downloading the tool according to your request. You may not sure which is the helpful tool and end up you have to install all the tools on your machine and try one by one. Same thing happened to me and finally I came across a website and found my lovely tool called “Recuva”. It is a very powerful tool and also free of charge that can use with no expiration.

- The first page is the welcome page; you can ignore it by checking the checkbox “Do not show this wizard on startup”. After you checked it will route you to the setting page for next startup but I suggest you do not disable it, because the welcome page integrated with the step by step instruction and convenient to follow.

Recuva Startup Page

- After you click next, the program will prompt you a list of option or type of file you would like to recover. If you confusing then I would advise you to select last option “Other”. It will recover whatever file as possible; of course if you just wanna recover picture, music or video, you can select the appropriate option respectively.

Recuva - File Type Selection Page

- The next page, you need to specify in which location of the file you need the tool scan for. I prefer to use last option to scan C drive because before the file is permanently deleted it actually stored in C drive recycle bin unless the file size too large and reach the maximum size of recycle bin then system will delete immediately without moving to recycle bin.

Recuva - File Location Selection Page

- The last step is actually requested you to fill up the last advanced setting before you start scanning, you might need to check the checkbox “Enable Deep Scan” if your first scan fail to recover your file, but I advise you check it as default for every scan to prevent repeating the step again.

Recuva - Deep Scaning Setting Page

- After the scan completed, a list of deleted file will be shown. From the list you can check on the checkbox for the file you would like to recover.

Recuva - Recovery Page

State column
a. Excellent – chances can be recovered are high. (80% – 100%)
b. Poor – Still can recover but chances are low. (60% – 100%)
c. Very Poor – Chances are very low. (40% – 60%)
d. Unrecoverable – Cannot recover. (0% – 40%)
*The percentage above is my own assumption as for reference only and may not correct in actual.

- After chosen the file then click on the recover button, a popup window is shown to let you choose where to keep your recovery file.

- Once you confirm the location the tool will start recovery. After the process done, you will be able to browse your file in the selected folder.

How to share the network to let other PC to be internet accessible if we connect to internet by using the USB modem. This is an interesting discussion of how to configure it. This blog will guide you through to configure the network and make both PC accessible to internet.

Nowadays connecting to high speed broadband is very convenient; especially offering the wireless broadband it makes you easier to get connecting anywhere, anytime with anyone. But, how do we configure the second PC to online without router and us using USB HSPDA modem?

What you need is just subscribe a wireless package with the service provider and then purchase a USB HSPDA modem. It may useful if you can fully utilize the service by letting the other computer to be internet accessible as well, but I just have network cable how do I make it work? Let’s begin now:

- After you plug the USB modem to your PC (Assume PC A), then the service provider will initiate a dynamic IP to you (Assume IP 10.10.10.1), this IP is used to connect internet and will change for every re-connection unless you subscribe as fix IP.

- Then go to control panel – Network connection, right click the wireless network and select Properties. On the popup window go to the Advanced Tab and checked”Allow other network users to connect……” under internet connection sharing. The bottom 2 checkbox will automatic checked but for the user control option you can uncheck if you don’t allow other user to take control or disable the share internet connection.

Share Network - Advanced Tab

- Internet connection and sharing is done for PC A, here come to our topic of how to get PC B to be internet accessible? To do this we need to give a role of proxy server to PC A where we set the PC A LAN IP as 192.168.0.1 (This is your internal network IP and can be set to any as you like) that allow other PC to access via the same network group and subnet mask.

Share Network - Set LAN IP For PC A

- Let clear PC B network connection setting by letting it obtain IP address automatically and then plug the network cable for both PC A and PC B. Once the network cable connected, PC B will then initiate an IP (Assume 192.168.0.2) that match the subnet mask with PC A and also configure the gateway IP to 192.168.0.1. If there is no error popup meaning you are now be able to access internet from both PC.

Share Network - Clear The Network Setting for PC B

- For your information, if PC B cannot access internet, please type ipconfig in the command prompt to check whether the IP address the machine obtained is same subnet mask with PC A and also is the gateway IP set to PC A (192.168.0.1). If either 1 getting wrong it will not work.

This sharing will divide your total bandwidth by total machine, let‘s assume your total bandwidth is 384Kbps and share with 2 machine meaning now each machine will only allocate 192Kbps.

You may experience the COM plus error while installing an application; my personal experience was happened when i try to install .Net web application at the end of the installation.

I’m not sure why I hit such exception, but I suspect this could happen to me may due to uninstall the web application quite often and cause the component script corrupted. With this exception happen there is no way for me to complete the installation and I have to terminate it. What to do next to get it work? I need to uninstall the COM plus component and re-install it. Sound like very complicated, but actually is just a few second effort only. Below is the solution:

1. Copy (msdtc –uninstall) and paste to the command prompt and press ENTER. This action will uninstall the COM plus relevant component.

2. Copy (msdtc –install) and paste to the command prompt and press ENTER. This action will help you re-install the COM plus services.

After re-installing the COM plus services, I can continue the installation without any error popup.
Try it out for the interesting game and get yourself relax. This game can guess what is the answer in your mind and be careful don't think "others" otherwise will show on the page.

Yesterday I received a link sending from one of my friend, in the mail he wrote that “It was so accurate and you never believe unless you try”, then I start thinking what kind of Magic Test application is?

After I tried I also surprise with the result and wonder how come the program know my answer, and it seem like connecting with my mind and retrieving my “data”. It so accurate and unbelievable but after a while, some questions start preparing in my mind because no matter how advanced the program is, it still a software and instructed by the programmer, it can’t be act like psychologist, and can guess your answer without eye contact.

Finally I found the secret after few tries. Here I would like to share with you the secret. But, try it your own first whether you can guess the answer before you continue reading.

Question:
Did you realize that the answer you get will always fall under the group 9, 18,27,36,45,54,63,72 and 81? No matter what number you chose and the final answer in your mind will be as listed above.

Yes – then check the symbol for the group of number above and you will notify that they all share the same symbol and will refresh for every click, therefore you will get the “correct” symbol for all the time.

Conclusion, there is only 1 symbol for each refresh that will display; of course the program can guess your answer. I am very appreciating the developer for creating the game like this to give us a joyful time.

HP implement a software key validation checking to prevent the software being cracked for illegal use, but with this implementation it creates an inconvenient usage to the user. Besides, if the server is down you are no longer valid to proceed for the license addin until the server is up and return valid result.

If you have experiencing of QTP version 10, you may find that this version may bring you some inconvenient during startup. Why?

Once you trigger the application, first it will send request to the server (If you are connecting as concurrent license) to retrieve the valid license key, not all addin need to be validated but some like .Net, Oracle, Web services and so on are needed. With this implementation, some time I need for almost 2 minutes to go through the valid license checking, and some time take longer due to the slow broadband connectivity. Logically if the license server located in the same business environment shouldn’t be slow, the reason for my case is the QTP server located in US. Some time I was very angry because when I rushing thing and after waiting for 2 minutes end up the server return invalid license to stop me to continue. I got no choice and have to re-run the tool again to get license in order to proceed.

HP implements this checking to prevent the software being cracked for illegal use, but this feature has indirectly created a problem to the user where user need to spend time to wait for the license validation. Besides that, if the server is down, there is no way you can continue to launch the tool for testing until the server is up.

I not sure whether it is a good implementation to protect the software copyright but what I found it is not convenient and time consuming for the license checking if I on and off the tool for more than 4 times which transform 8 minutes for this unproductive activity. Hope the system admin can do some configuration to improve the network speed so that can validate faster.

Usually the IT development tools will provide a feature where it can identify the error to the user, it same for QTP but I find it is not useful for me, how about you?

Below is a sample code that QTP confusing me regarding the error encounter.

I developed a test script using QTP 10, after I completed for 800 lines of code and I was shocked when i save the file, because the tools throw quite a long list of error on the page due to a normal human mistake where I space up the “else if” as you can refer to the screenshot below at line 127. The error description and line number is misleading me, because it never pointed the error accurately otherwise it can save my debugging time.

Taking with this example, I wouldn’t expect it can straightly point to the line 127 where the error occurs but at least to narrow down the affected area. It listed a long list of error and I find is helpless for me and I can’t effectively fix it by referring to the error description. In order to make the information more meaningful, the tools should point the error to “If…else….End if”. I guess this was more making sense to the user to find the error and correct it within a short time.

Perhaps I still a beginner and not familiar of reading the description. Anyway, just to share some finding to friends and those using the tools. Nice day.

Why I can’t read the traditional Chinese character?

Last night I downloaded some text file from china website which written in traditional Chinese, I open the text with notepad and it shows me special character, first I thought I have not install yet the Chinese language onto my PC , then I go to control panel and check it out. I found the language already installed but why still I can’t read it? (Already change the system language to retrieve Chinese PRC).

I tried for some notepad tools like Notepad++, WordPad and so on, but it still showing the special character. Finally I tried open up with IE8, I feel disappointed because the text still can’t be translated, then I got no choice and right click the mouse and select “Encoding” follow by more and select “Chinese Traditional (BIG5)”, Magic! It translates the language and display nicely in IE.
