That’s correct to a certain extent – Working too hard can have a very negative impact on you, as well.

Long hours and the strain to keep doing much more can result in anxiety, depression, burn out.

Rather than just working hard and getting into a lot of hours, why don’t you try to find ways to work smart?

Why?

Simply because smart work indicates you’re prone to get to your goals.

In the early days of my blogging, I devoted my precious time to writing terrific blog posts and attracting visitors.

I was thrilled by every new comment on my blog and spent lots of time checking out Google Analytics.

It was all exciting and helped me grow my blog and my audience, but there was no large picture or a whopping plan behind all this effort.

Professional blogging can be quite rewarding if you have used your blog smartly. For reaching these goals, all you want to do is to work smartly and build a highly effective blog. Some methods behind successful blogging are listed here…

THE GOAL WITH ANY BLOG POST

Always consider what you want to gain from your blog and with a particular person’s blog post before you decide to write and publish it. Some of the goals you might be working towards:

• Attracting brand new site visitors
• Building a community
• Retaining existing visitors
• Starting a conversation
• Selling your own personal product/affiliate product
• Building a contact list/Twitter followers/Facebook likes
• Attracting clients

A few posts that I’ve made since I started blogging strategically are created to get viewers to take action I want them to take, such as, “like” on Facebook, browse the affiliate product recommended or sign-up to the subscriber list.

I REST MORE TO GET 100%

I’m often a bit doubtful about testimonies of people working on 3 hours sleep while they develop their blogging business. Certain, they might gain something fantastic – but I wonder if they’d have done better still with a full night’s rest.

If you’re doing anything remotely innovative or which needs focus, you’re not likely to be at anywhere close to 100% if you’re not relaxing enough. That doesn’t simply mean finding a good night’s sleep – what’s more, it implies taking time off to rest and play. That isn’t “wasting” time – it’s making certain that you can perform BEST in your blogging hours.

SMART BLOGGING TOWARDS SOMETHING GREAT

It is crucial to consider the objective of your blog and what you need any visitor to do when looking at your website. So, refocus your header, navigation menu, sidebar along with other key areas of your website in the direction of that goal.

Carrying this out tactically and implementing strategically can get you from the blogging mode and can make you more targeted towards attaining something great together with your blog. You will spend your time and effort blogging smartly rather than working hard.

If you are a blogger and are asking yourself what you should do precisely, to make it large, don’t get worried; all you have to do is to take the time to check out the successful bloggers in the community, and study a lot of things on the web to have a hang of it.

I hope you like my ideas; it has helped me become a better blogger, and wish it works for you too!

Do share with us your tips or suggestions towards blogging hard or blogging smart…

Related posts:

4 Pillars of Successful Blogging

How to Stand Out In a Crowded Blogging Niche?

The Key to Becoming a Rockstar Blogger – Getting Accepted to Your Niches Inner Circle

4 Smart Ways To Convert Your Casual Visitors To Loyal Readers

Download The Blogging Profit eBook Here

Between social media consultants, life coaches, marketing experts, and other blogging gurus; creating your own personal brand can sound like a complicated exercise.

Among other things, you’ll need to discover what really matters to you and your target audience, where you provide unique value, and how you want to be perceived.

While the process of putting together your total personal brand “package” sounds daunting, it’s far easier to communicate to the world than you think. It’s not as if you’re creating a product from scratch. You already exist!

One of the things that all your consultants might forget to tell you is that the real you is what matters most in building credibility. As soon as you start trying to market an artificial personal brand, people will see right through it and you’ll lose the trust you were striving for in the first place. And we’re not just talking about bloggers here. These principles apply to everyone.

With those thoughts in mind, try on these few tips for making sure it’s the real ‘you’ that shows up in your personal brand and on your blog:

1. Actions Speak Louder Than Words

You may specialize in words for a living, but no matter how many times you tell the world what your personal brand represents, it’s what you do in real life that will communicate it most.

If you say in your blog that you’re an innovative content marketer, then you’d better have some real life, active marketing campaigns going on that take the word “creative” to new levels. If you say that your mission is to help people realize their dreams, then I hope you are out there in the world doing just that.

Before you start defining your brand, think about whether your words are really wishes. Or, do you truly intend to put those words into action immediately? Successful bloggers have their actions planned out ahead of time and always make sure those actions are aligned with their image.

2. A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words

Always use a good picture of yourself for all your profiles and other places you can post it. While we’d like to think that the way we look doesn’t matter, it does. People will always get a first impression of you from your face, hair, clothes, posture, etc. If they see you face-to-face, they’ll look at the way you move, sit, stand, gesture, or even blink your eyes. If they’re just seeing your picture, they’ll note every little detail in just a glance.

Make sure your visual image reflects the brand you want to communicate. You may prefer to blog in your underwear, but unless you’re an underwear model, that image is not something you want the world to see.

3. Drop The Artifice

While there are some parts of yourself you don’t want anyone to know about, you’ll also find it difficult to fabricate something that you’re not. You might be able to learn some new skills to push the edges of your comfort zone, but you still should be aware of where you are most comfortable as yourself.

If humor is your main trait, you’re not suddenly going to become the serious pontiff who blogs about the political hazards plaguing the third world. On the other hand, if you have a really bad sense of humor, you shouldn’t start trying to tell funny stories.

Strive to be yourself and focus on you finest qualities. At the same time, be selective in sharing some of your weaknesses and faults. That’s real life and nobody likes a perfectionist.

4. Stop Reinventing Yourself

Some bloggers like to reinvent themselves as if they’re trying on the latest fashion trend. It’s confusing to every reader who arrives on your site and it defeats the entire purpose of having a personal brand. Attempting to build a community on shifting sands is pointless and self-defeating.

Once you’ve spent the time to really figure out your personal brand, stick with it. You’ll certainly refine it as you learn more about your market and yourself. But you won’t even know if your brand is having the impact you want unless you stay consistent and let it grow on its own.

5. Don’t Be A Hermit

You may know who you are, but does anyone other than your mother read your blog? The whole point of a personal brand is to use it to show the world who you are and what you have to offer. No one will know your name at all unless you are visible in some way – whether through your public actions, marketing, word of mouth, social interaction, or other efforts.

As part of your personal branding, you need to create a plan for how you’ll communicate it to the world. And that doesn’t have to mean a big speaking tour or hours spent on social media. Depending on who you’re trying to appeal to, it may be as simple as networking with other bloggers or participating in blogging challenges. Keep it simple where possible and, whatever you do, stay true to the real you.

Do you have a personal brand? How your brand is perceived is nothing more than the collective opinion of your target market.

That’s why it’s so important to constantly watch social media and what people are saying about you.

It’ll tell you everything you need to know about whether or not people like your brand and your products and how you’re doing in comparison to your competitors.

These are the 8 most common types of messages that consumers will project in the social sphere.

#1 – They Love Your Service

If you provide a product or service that people love, they’ll be very happy to share it in their social media platforms.

This is especially if you go above and beyond their expectations. For example, Zappos often gives customers free overnight delivery – Without advertising it. When customers receive their order overnight, they’re so surprised that they share their experience on social media.

#2 – They Hate Your Service

Likewise, if you disappoint a customer or antagonize a customer, they’ll gladly share that on social media as well.

One famous example is when an AOL rep refused to cancel a man’s subscription. The man recorded the call and posted it on the social web – Where it took off like wildfire.

#3 – Real Experiences

People will often share real experiences with their friends, often without judgment. For example, someone might say that they just saw a movie, or that they just ate at X restaurant or that they’re joining X coaching program.

They’ll share their authentic experiences, with or without judgment on the experience’s quality.

#4 – Recommendations

Friends will often help other friends out by recommending products or services. Your goal as a marketer should always be to try to get these recommendations. These recommendations are more powerful than any type of marketing you could do, because they carry the weight of friendship.

It’s one thing if a movie poster tells you a movie is the greatest film of the year. It’s another thing if your friend tells you that. That’s the power of recommendations and that can only happen if you’ve built enough social media trust.

#5 – Requests for Recommendations

Often time’s someone who’s looking to buy a product will ask their social network for recommendations. For example, someone might go on their Facebook status and ask “Does anyone know a good massage therapist?”

You want to position your brand so that when people ask, you’re the one who gets the referral.

#6 – Suggestions

Customers will often offer unsolicited suggestions. While some of these may be completely unrealistic, such as making your products free, many of them will actually be great ideas.

Companies often find that when they listen to customer suggestions, their customers can actually provide some of the best ideas for improving products and even marketing.

Encourage a two-way dialogue with your customers. Even if you aren’t implementing their suggestions, make sure you keep the door open.

#7 – Which is Better?

Customers will often time’s compare one product to another, one brand to another through social media.

Which video player is better? Which camera? Which restaurant? So on and so forth.

Naturally, you want to come out as the winner in these comparisons. That said, you can’t possibly watch and monitor all the different “comparisons” conversations out there. The best you can do is create a top-notch product, then monitor as many social media conversations as you can and see if you generally win these comparisons.

#8 – Allegiance Proclamations

Finally, the best type of social media buzz for your company is an allegiance proclamation. That’s when someone says they’re fed up of someone else’s product and will use yours from now on.

“I’m tired of Burger King; I’m eating at McDonald from now on.” So on and so forth. What’s great about these proclamations is that friends will ask why, and your customer will essentially turn into your spokesperson.

It’s an endorsement for your company in the strongest form. It’s more than just a compliment; it’s an allegiance.

These are eight of the most common types of social media buzz you’ll find around brands. Monitor social media around your brand carefully, as it can tell you a lot about what other people think about your company.

Top 10 Search Terms:
• lnkd in • fitness this blog uses premium commentluv -the version of commentluv on this site is no longer supported • sameer maximizer • etoro review • how do marketers know which social sites to pay attention to? • The social media phenomenon - whats out there and when should you use it

Related posts:

6 Ways To Combine Your Emails And Social Media

How Do I Know Which Social Media is Right for My Business

6 Important Steps in Creating Content to Grab Google’s Attention

Social Networking vs SEO – Which is Better For Internet Marketing?

Download The Blogging Profit eBook Here

Just a few weeks ago I was making $3000 a month by publishing one post a week until a simple mistake caught up with me resulting in me losing everything. More on the mistake later on and how you can avoid doing the same thing – but first I’ll share how I single-handedly went from nothing to making $3000 a month within a single year and how I’m certain that I’ll be able to do it all over again with my new blog on personal development.

This might seem like a wall of text for some of you but I highly recommend that you bookmark it so you can return later.

In this guest post you will find everything you need to know to succeed with making money online and some of the information might not seem interesting right now, but as you progress and reach a new level you’ll be able to use it in a whole new way. If nothing else, it will be a terrific reminder of how you can succeed by doing less.

Since it took me several days to write this and Sushant was kind enough to publish it I’m only asking you to take a minute and link back to Sushant. He has done a tremendous job inspiring us all and sharing amazing information on how to make your blog successful.

How I Built An Income Of $3000 A Month Within A Year…

First and foremost I had to find a niche to write about. It’s kind of cliché to say that you should write about something you really love but trust me – everything depends on it. I’ve created hundreds of blogs during the last five years on everything from chlamydia and file sharing to TV series and photography. I even created a shop selling condoms, and yes, one night stands will ask why you have thousands of condoms in your bedroom. Anyway, that’s another story.

The only thing these topics had in common was that I didn’t enjoy writing about it. Sure, I enjoy watching TV series, taking photos and having sex but you won’t necessarily love to write about something just because you find it interesting. Eventually, all the projects was either cancelled or sold and it took me two serious knee injuries, months of rehabilitation and overweight before I figured out that I really love to write about weight loss, body building, psychology and personal development.

Create your blog

When I finally had decided on a niche it was time to create my blog. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of post on how to do this and, truth to be told, it isn’t really such a big deal. Find yourself a host (Sushant recommends HostGator), install WordPress with a single click and then find a good-looking theme. On my blog I used Coraline with some simple changes such as removing the header and creating a new footer.

Enhance your blog with plugins

Then we have the plugins. Most of them are well-known or self-explanatory but it’s always interesting to see which plugins other people find useful. So, here’s my list:

Akismet, All in One SEO Pack, BackWPup, Broken Link Checker, Clean Archives Reloaded, Contact Form 7, GoCodes, Google Analyticator, Google XML Sitemaps, Limit Login Attempts, Newsletter Sign-Up, No Self Pings, Primary Feedburner, Redirection, Smart YouTube PRO, Subscribers Text Counter, Twitter Facebook Social Share and WP Super Cache. That’s about 18 plugins…

Create amazing content

Some people tend to have problem coming up with topics to write about. I my case, I had not only read an awful lot of books on the topic but also gained personal experience by actually losing weight. Thanks to this I could spend a sunny day, relaxing by the pool, creating a mind map over what I would consider to be one of the best books on the subject. Then I simply broke the chapters down to smaller bits and created one post on every main point.

In addition to this I subscribed to Sweden’s two most popular newspapers and used their content by creating posts with quotes and my thoughts, linking to their article. This will not only give you unique content, but also result in new readers if the blog or newspaper displays a list of posts linking to the article.

Get visitors

I believe in being a simple man (great song, btw); focusing on a few marketing methods that really works. My most successful method so far has been blog comments. The secret, which probably isn’t a secret, is that all, and I truly mean all, minor blog owners check their commenters by visiting their sites.

So, by commenting on a blog post you’re almost certain to get your site noticed by the author which sometimes even result in a post about your blog. To accomplish this I simply use Google Blogsearch to receive a notice every time someone writes about one of my keywords.

My second most successful marketing method is actually Twitter. This probably works a lot better on smaller markets, such as Sweden, where spam hasn’t overwhelmed the users yet. The idea is to create a search query with your keywords and get a notice every time someone post a tweet mentioning your keywords. Make sure you have specific keywords or you’ll be overwhelmed by unrelated tweets.

By doing so you have the possibility to find people searching for a specific product, to which you can reply with a polite and personal tweet, including an affiliate link or link to your blog. The main thing to remember is that you have to be personal and actually answer their question, otherwise they probably will mark you as spam. Also make sure you get paid high commission since a lot of your tweets will go unnoticed.

Link building

Finally, we have link building. I did all the regular methods (link directories, article directories, forums, etc) before deciding for one single method which made my site rank number one for several difficult keywords such as weight loss and lose weight. The method was blog comments.

Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not talking about regular, nofollow, blog comments on new posts. Those are usually worthless when it comes to link building. I refer to blog comment on selected blog posts with a PR of 6 and above. Not domain PR but PR of the specific page. Think about what it would do for your rankings if you could build several, non spammed, PR6-9 links within a few minutes without risking the wrath of Google.

There’s a terrific software named ScrapeBox which you can use to harvest high PR blog posts with dofollow comments just by using some common footprints. I’m not going into details on how to do this since you can find some how to-posts by searching on Google for ScrapeBox + footprints. Just remember to leave high quality comments relating to the content. It might take a few minutes more than spam but it ensures that your comment will be approved and not marked as spam.

Making money with your blog

Finally we have the making money-part which is a big goal for most people. There’s no secret here – I used a combination of AdSense and affiliate programs. Your long-term goal should be to create your own products (books, plugins, real life tools, etc) since it gives you the best commission, but until then you can maximize your income by pushing for products you actually use.

Don’t recommend a bunch of e-books like everyone else, but focus on real life objects such as a bike, computer, insurance, camera, camera lens or anything else most people within your niche tend to use.

Take a few minutes to create a resources-page where you list all the products you recommend and link to it every time someone asks you a question. If someone asks you what kind of camera they should get, give them an answer (including an affiliate link) and link to your resources-page by telling them they will find a complete list of the equipment you recommend. Whatever the question is, you can always find an opening for your resources-page to be mentioned.

Speaking of questions, make sure you use a software like TextExpander and prewritten answers to be able to answer recurring questions within a few seconds. One regular week I used this software to answer 181 questions, containing 59 171 characters which saved me a total of 2,47 hours. Just make sure to include their name and make some small adjustments so it fits perfectly with their question.

What I’ll Do Differently When Rebuilding It Again

By now, you know how I made my blog successful and most of it can be summed up to succeeding by doing as little as possible. Instead of spending hours on learning new tools or finding new techniques, which I did in my past, I simply focused on doing a few things I knew would give results. There are, however, some things I’ll change and share below so you can learn from my decisions.

The blog will be about me

One of the major changes is that the blog will be more about me and actually include my name, Stefan Nilsson, in the domain. Instead of being just facts and figures, I’m going to publish posts on my exercise and experiences when I’m traveling the world, including Germany for 2-3 months this coming summer. People tend to care about the person behind the blog, like many cheer for Sushant’s success, not only the great content he delivers. By doing so you’ll get involved readers who tend to share your posts simply because they like you.

I’m going international

My other major change is that I’ll go international. My English is far from perfect but Sweden currently have 9 million inhabitants of which roughly 6 million are between the age of 18-70. At the same time there are estimated to be roughly 1 400 000 million people, including most Swedes, who are able to speak and understand English. Sure, it also means more competition but I’m certain my high quality content will get the attention it deserves and my English will improve as I write more.

I’m going to use less images

Don’t get me wrong – I love images and they do attract readers. Studies have shown that beautiful, half-naked women do so more than anything else. Unfortunately, I tended to get so caught up in styling the post that it actually took me longer to find and edit images than it took to write the content. Therefore I’ve decided to skip most of the images and only include those I really need. It will eventually change but I won’t go back to the old days and include 1-2 images in each and every post.

There might not be any comments

I love interacting with my readers and encourage everyone to keep in touch with theirs, but there’s a problem. As your blog grows you either have to monitor all your comments, which takes a lot of time, or people will eventually start abusing it. In the beginning there will be small stuff such as short one sentenced comments, just to get a link, and if you accept this behavior it will only get worse with pure spam and possibly even personal attacks if you’re slightly controversial.

This might change in the future, but for now I’ll spend my time writing new amazing content instead of monitoring the comments. Hopefully my readers will understand this and instead share the content on Twitter and Facebook or even mention my blog on their own site. To encourage this, I’ve been inspired by The Official Google Blog and included highly visible links to all posts mentioning my articles.

The idea is that short, encouraging, comments shall be converted to social shares and all questions will be redirected to mail.

There will be no link building

Another major change is that I won’t spend a minute building links. Sure, there’s a risk I won’t rank on Google and thereby only get a fraction of the visitors, but if I can get the word out about my blog I have faith people will freely link back to my posts. With the time saved I can answer more questions and create even better content.

More focus on my newsletter

This is a no-brainier. Instead of trying to get new visitors each day I’ll simply focus on converting those I get. It’s wiser to convert your readers to returning customers and ask them to recommend your products than to constantly try to convince new strangers to buy from you.

What Was The Mistake Then?

The mistake was to use a TV show as domain and I feel really stupid for doing it since I’ve warned people for several years from doing the same.

I bought the domain on a sale for $0.15 and never had any big goals for it until I posted a few articles which became really popular. My experience told me I had to change the name as soon as possible but I found a bunch of old .COM-sites using the same name, lulling me into a false sense of security, and thought it could do for now. Unfortunately Sweden works differently and I didn’t get a new domain in time before the company behind the show contacted me and told me to give up the domain or else…

I thought, screw them, and got into a magical “make it or die trying”-mode, working 24/7 with my new blog, knowing that my inspiration will be over in 2-3 weeks when it dawns on me what I’ve lost. Therefore I’ve got to make every day count.

This was the story about my rise and fall. The only thing I ask you now is to share this post with your friends so no one has to suffer the way I did and, once again, I want to thank Sushant for giving me the opportunity to promote my new blog.

Top 10 Search Terms:
• What was my mistake • doing things differently • guest post personal development • i did a mistake when i lost you • my mistake • travel dofollow blog commenting websites • $3 000 A MONTH From Domain Parking Formula • what my mistake • zeeshan cowards • mistakes is a way of doing things differently

Related posts:

Dominate Your Internet Marketing Goals and Achieve Your Desired Income Level

How a Newbie Blogger Built 600 Highly Targeted Subscribers

Find A Mentor – How To Work Your Way Into His Inner Circle

6 Ways To Combine Your Emails And Social Media

Download The Blogging Profit eBook Here

With Google topping all SEO news charts, one can safely predict that there are going to be dynamic changes in the industry.

Experts are predicting a major shift of focus from just Link Building to brand link building strategies. Viral Content and Social Media are also on the search engines’ radar.

Change is a harbinger of a new world order; this is true for all SEO campaigns. The perception that SEO is all about link building will not stand in good stead, just as it did not previously. All webmasters will have to pull up their socks as the latest updates by the leading search engine Google in its algorithms are going to affect the rankings, drastically.

Instead of chewing off its nails, it would be better for the SEO industry to focus on the tried and tested with a twist! Seven ways to achieve the benchmark could be:

1. Brand Building

This year, experts across the forums are emphasizing on building a brand, using innovate link building strategies. The focus has shifted from anchor text to brand links as the audiences are being more discerning about what they link to. This is possible due to the proliferation of the social media in the day-to-day lives of the browsers. By focusing positively on the website as a brand and encouraging discussions in a variety of forums about the blogs/articles/news on it, you can see some great results.

2. Promote Expertly Written Content

The greatest asset in a webmaster’s domain is the content the website has to offer. Content, in the form of article, blog posts or news, written by experts in the industry (that the website caters to) serves as a quality link for visitors.

Content can be on site or on any other relevant site. It can present different view points, in-depth analysis, or just news to score a high-five with genuine readers. It is imperative that the website hires or outsources the articles or blog posts to experts or great writers from the required field. This will make sure that the information is cross verified and authentic.

Hence, websites promoting informative and useful content attract greater traffic thereby increasing chances of improving the traffic conversion rate.

3. Viral Content Used For Link Baiting

As a part of the content strategy, webmasters can design viral content that is done with the sole purpose of attracting a large number of links within a short span of time.

The best way to do is by threading a discussion on current topic/happenings, news, reviews etc. Like taking a recent example; Google Penguin Update. The relevance of the content is again tied to the authoritativeness of the site. The trustworthiness (for the audience) plays a significant role in the success of viral content.

The rule of thumb, though here is the freshness of the content.

4. The Next Logical Strategy Is That Of Being Visible And Talked About In The Social Media

In a day and age where, popularity has taken significance, being talked positively about across all mediums, boosts the image of the company.

Any website owner would love to be promoted by word of mouth instead of depending upon oiling the PR machinery. This is possible only when the services are impeccable.

The website delivers on its part; be it providing services or selling products. When it does, people are bound to spread the word and the quickest medium is the social networking site, where, if statistics are any indicator, the entire world hangs out!

5. Off-Site Content To Support Onsite Content

Yet another point that has a link to point number 2. The search bots have become cleverer. They also rank a page on the offsite links it attracts. Again the rule here is to encourage guest blogs to link your site’s content.

However ensure that the information that they offer is genuine and the reader has something to take back after reading the blog posts!

6. Niche Directory Links

Linking strategies that involves listing in niche directories is considered a traditional method. The importance of directories cannot be disregarded though, as many people search directories for information about websites rather than keywords. Submit relevant links to those directories that have impeccable reputation; at least as much it’s possible in this virtual world.

7. Infographics

Information works best when it has visual support. If you browse the net, infographics are being rendered in almost all the informative pieces.

Basically, people are open to a visualized concept. An informative article/blog supported by infographics lends a different dimension to the link building exercise. In fact if you browse the big ten blog posts in any niche category you are sure to come across well executed infographics. The infographics serve a dual purpose of not only making it easier to figure in the SERP’s by applying keywords in the image tags, but also make it easier for the reader to process the information at a single glance.

An SEO company need not get stuck at the number seven. They could also opt for link building strategies that involve offering discount coupons, giveaways and freebies via their own or social networking sites.

The trick this year to optimize link building is by thinking out of the box – a necessity of the times!

Top 10 Search Terms:
• google penguin • articles by Divya Rawat • link building latest strategy tips 2012 • helpful link building strategies 2012 • relevant link building seo • Safe Link Building Strategies After Penguin? • top link building strategies 2012 • new strategies to do seo 2012 • new strategies for link building 2012 • new strategies after penguin

Related posts:

3 Innovative Link Building Methods For Your Blog

SEO Tactics for 2011/2012

Review Of llpack.com: Should You Use This Resource For Your Link Building Efforts?

5 BEST Strategies To Get Your Guest Post Published On Popular Blogs

Download The Blogging Profit eBook Here
