		<title>The Rules Of Triathlon</title>
		<link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/SmartSportInternational/~3/5c7pLnWcWD0/index.php</link>
		<description>The rules of sport are put into place for a reason. They are usually implemented for safety, or to decrease the liability of the event director and sanctioning body. They may be instituted to create a level playing field for all competitors. Rules are generally not made to be broken. And yes, rules ARE made to be enforced.

Perhaps this post should be entitled “An Open Letter to USA Triathlon” … or the World Triathlon Corporation, or to all of the triathletes out there that are doing events sanctioned by these bodies. Suffice it to say that in the races that I have either participated in or have viewed as a spectator, there have been plenty of instances of people “breaking the rules”. It’s not just the pros. And it’s not getting better with more and more participants in the sport – if anything, I think it’s getting worse.

The basic premise of triathlon is simple – complete the course under your own power, and without any external assistance. It’s the thrill of the competition, and the challenge that we face within ourselves. Sadly, this can get lost in the mix.&lt;div class="feedflare"&gt;

		<title>BlogTalkRadio 10/27/09: Health Care Reform</title>
		<link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/SmartSportInternational/~3/ieKF6rzxEOQ/index.php</link>
		<description>Join me on BlogTalkRadio on Tuesday October 27,
2009 at 8:00 pm central time for the latest episode of Consumer's
Guide To Health . Health care reform probably requires little introduction. We're in the midst of some challenging discussions regarding the cost of health care, the quality of ihealth care, and the ability of the patient to access health care. Should the government be involved? What impact is reforming going to have on the average person? We've been exposed to a lot of misinformation, and a lot of diatribe. In this episode, we will discuss some of the issues facing successful health care reform - from the perspective of the provider, and the patient.

This episode has two special guests. The first is Dr. Quentin Lobb, an anaesthesiologist from Norman, Oklahoma. Dr. Lobb graduated from Baylor University with a double major in biochemistry and molecular genetics, and then went on to do his medical degree at Oklahoma University. Dr. Lobb is also a runner and triathlete - having completed 15 marathons and 3 Ironman triathlons. Our second guest is Robin Warnken, a licensed massage therapist, and fitness professional for nearly 20 yrs who not only has her Masters of Science in Exercise Science &amp; Health Promotion but is also an Ironman and marathon finisher (and previous guest of Consumer's Guide To Health ). Robin will help to address the issues related to the patient from her own personal experiences.

		<title>BlogTalkRadio 10/13/09: Diabetes</title>
		<link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/SmartSportInternational/~3/JbWf77R7S6k/index.php</link>
		<description>Join me on BlogTalkRadio on Tuesday October 13, 2009 at 8:00 pm central time for the latest episode of Consumer&amp;#39;s Guide To Health . There are 23.6 million children and adults in the US, or approximately 7.8% of the population, that have diabetes. Type I diabetes (secondary to the body&amp;#39;s failure to produce insulin) affects 5 - 10% of the population, with Type II (insulin resistance) being the more common. There are many risk factors for Type II diabetes including obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, physical inactivity, and smoking. The total annual economic cost of diabetes in 2007 was estimated to be $174 billion. The 2007 per capita annual costs of health care for people with diabetes is $11,744 a year, of which $6,649 (57%) is attributed to diabetes. One out of every five health care dollars is spent caring for someone with diagnosed diabetes, while one in ten health care dollars is attributed to diabetes. Needless to say, diabetes has become a significant health issue in this country. This episode&amp;#39;s special guest will be Allison Sullivan of Kerrville, Texas - triathlete and diabetic. Our discussion will focus on her personal experiences as a diabetic and how to lead an active life with this condition.The BlogTalkRadio call-in number is 646-929-1567. In this episode, Yoga: Just This - Breathe , we will discuss one approach to the practice of yoga. This episode&amp;#39;s special guest will be Austin business professional Kelly White - a transformational leader and member of Austin real estate&amp;#39;s Good Life Team who has developed Just This - Breathe - A 30 Day Journey Of Self-Exploration . <title>Health Care: We're Number 37!</title>
		<link>http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/SmartSportInternational/~3/73G0Nuj76PA/index.php</link>
		<description>Yes, I know it may be hard to believe, but the World Health Organization&amp;rsquo;s report on health care systems rates the United States as number 37 &amp;ndash; yes 37 &amp;ndash; in the world. But those in the status quo want you to think otherwise, stating that we have &amp;ldquo;the best medical care in the world&amp;rdquo;. So who do you believe? And what really ARE the issues at stake?   Before we even get into the issue at hand, let&amp;rsquo;s take a light-hearted look at the issue by musician/actor/filmmaker Paul Hipp (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/paul-hipp): yVgOl3cETb4Humor can certainly bring light to the insanity of the situation. So now that we&amp;rsquo;ve taken a collective sigh of relief (and hopefully had a chuckle in the process), let&amp;rsquo;s now look at a couple of elemental issues in the health care reform debate.&lt;div class="feedflare"&gt;

		<description>Join me on BlogTalkRadio on Tuesday September 1, 2009 at 8:00 pm central time for the latest episode of Consumer&amp;#39;s Guide To Health . For those considering a spring marathon, it&amp;#39;s time to start marathon training. This episode will address the issues of marathon training - what is necessary to be successful, and what you can do to not only improve your performance but stay injury-free in the process. This episode&amp;#39;s special guest will be Marshall Burt, Austin running coach. Marshall has some perspectives on distance running that will challenge the commonly-held beliefs of the running community. More information on Marshall and his Elite Training Group Track Club can be found at http://www.theetgtrackclub.com (http://www.theetgtrackclub.com).
