Google AdWords - The Wisdom of Google Slap?

A couple of months ago Google shocked and angered
advertisers with new (and vague) landing page quality
guidelines.  The essence of the so-called "Google Slap"
was that if you had a skinny little website with one or
two pages on it, they hiked your bid prices up to 5 or
10 bucks a click.

As Bryan and I and our Roundtable members researched
this, we soon saw that this wasn't so much about the
landing page per se, it had a lot more to do with the
quantity of content on pages across the entire site.
Google distinctly prefers that visitors not be restricted
to visiting just one page.

This was somewhat contrary to what I had found to
work with landing pages, because my experience and
testing had told me this: The more options I gave
people on a landing page (to go look around and
wander off looking at other things) the less likely they
were to take action and opt in.

Nonetheless, a lot of advertisers have had to
compensate for Google's new rules by adding more
pages to their sites, giving visitors more options, and
in some cases settling for lower response rates on
those landing pages.

But there's another side to the story that's come to
light as we've adopted the Unlock The Internet Game
strategy that Ari Galper is teaching our private mentor
group.  A side benefit of having x-ray vision, you might say.

When you're able to watch visitors come in to your site,
live - when you know exactly what keyword they typed
in 12 minutes ago, what page they landed on your site,
what pages they've looked at, how many pages they've
been to, how long they've been browsing - and when
you can engage them with a chat, or they can engage
you at will - here's what you find:

Most of the people who do make a purchase, and most
of the people who want to talk to someone, are in that
state only *after* they've visited 5-10 pages on your site.

This is even more true if they've visited your site several
times over the last few days or weeks.

An analogy to a retail store would go like this: The guy
comes into a men's clothing store to buy a sport jacket,
he tries on the jacket, decides he's probably going to buy it.

But before he does, he takes a walk around the entire store.

What's he doing?

He's making sure he's not missing anything, that there's
not something else he might want to buy, making sure
he's comfortable with everything before he goes to the
cash register.  People don't like to go to the cash register
twice, do they?

It turns out this is vital for facilitating the sale on your site,
too.  The most interested, most receptive people often
want to find out as much as they can about you before
they go ahead and buy.

Google already knew this - because with Google analytics
and a whole bunch of other tools that only they are privy
too, they have a keen understanding of what goes on,
not only on their own search engine but while people are
visiting advertisers' websites as well.

The good news is, you don't have to be Google to discover
these things.  This kind of live, real-time information is so
valuable that in the next round of personal AdWords
coaching that starts Sept. 26, we're including a module

including the technology that enables you to do this.  If
you're trying to remove all the obstacles from your sales
process, I know of no better approach.

Article Marketing - the ONE Secret to Online Success

Too long I was reading, and reading, and reading hundreds of books, free reports, newsletters, articles, websites, blogs ... just to find out again and again, that the ONE secret to success is ...the writing and not the reading!

I will repeat it again:

The one single secret to online success is to start writing your own articles and to start publishing to the article directories!

I am not saying to stop reading because if you do so, how you will continue to learn, to improve your knowledge, to build up your own value.

But when you start writing and posting your own unique articles, you will position yourself on the active side of business whilst all the readers are on the passive side!

And no matter how bad and amateurish your writing is at the beginning, your next one hundred articles will be much, much better than your first, your subscriber's list will start to increase, your search engine ranking will start to increase, your traffic will start to increase, and finally, sooner or later, your money will start to increase. Period!

But how all this will happen to you if you are only reading, and reading and reading...

The best way to start writing is blogging. Start your own blog and start posting as often as you can. Then do some keyword research and try writing around a chosen keyphrase. Then learn how to optimize your article for the search engines. Then start publishing your search engine optimized articles to the article directories.

Thus way in a few months you will grow up in your web presence and you will start seeing positive results.

The growth of the affiliate marketing industry has been astounding as of late, and that means that many new people are making the plunge every day. This has also lead to an increase in the amount of affiliate marketing training materials permeating the market.

So what gives?

Affiliate marketing is simply redirecting traffic, isn’t it? Isn’t that what makes it so easy to do and easy to be successful at?

In a word: No!

There is a lot more to affiliate marketing then just setting up an affiliate account, dropping your website into cyberspace, and sitting back as the cash rolls in. Yes, it can be easy, and it is definitely creative and fun, but it is a business, like any other, and you need to be qualified for the position and have a good handle on what you’re doing in order to survive.

Learn from their successes and mistakes! Read their books and take notes. See how they have found success in some areas and how they relate to the other books you have. Cross referencing is a great way to get a feel for the fundamentals of affiliate marketing, as you will start to see specific patterns emerge in the training methods of each book.

Also, you will be able to trim away the extra fat that may be part of each authors affiliate style, and come up with your own goals and direction based on the knowledge they have imparted to you.

If reading a book isn’t getting you anywhere or you’d like to see more, there is always the online tutorial route for affiliate marketing training.

Getting Extra Help through Cyberspace

Another great way to get he affiliate marketing training you need is to go through an online tutorial. In much the same way as a book will help you learn the basics and get the information you really need, online tutorials can show you how real affiliate marketing can be successful in a dynamic web presence complete with working models and examples.

In addition, many of these tutorials will offer links to great savings and deals on important affiliate products such as web site hosting, template design, and domain name registration to get the eager affiliate marketing student up and running.

Many of these affiliate marketing online tutorials are designed and kept up by successful affiliate marketers (some of whom may have written books that you should already be reading!) and you can learn from their mistakes and successes. Also, since web copy is generally simpler than book formats, expect the information you gather from an online tutorial to be brisk, to the point, and perfect for taking notes.

Of all the ways to get website traffic and make money online, nothing tops email marketing. Of course, email marketing in itself means many things to many marketers. After all, it can take on quite a wide variety of formats.

Today I'll cover the various forms of email marketing available to online businesses and reveal what works and what doesn't. Here's what we'll discuss...

1. Unsolicited bulk email marketing
2. Opt-in email list rental
3. Email newsletter classified and sponsorship advertising
4. Email newsletter solo mailings (text and html)
5. Email newsletter network advertising
6. Opt-in "series" email marketing

1. Unsolicited bulk email marketing

Let's jump right into that dangerous endeavor referred to as UCE (Unsolicited Commercial Email). Most of you know my take on this. Sure, you can get some website traffic using bulk email. (Though a response rate close to the 10% rate some companies promise is not likely - .01% is more likely.) You can tackle the rigors of unsolicited bulk email marketing yourself (you'll need lots of ISP connections because they'll be canceled quickly!) or hire a company to do the dirty work for you.

But the fact is, since unsolicited bulk email angers a huge percentage of recipients, your risks can be rather high. Your domain will end up being blocked by many ISPs and you could even face some legal battles. In my humble opinion, unsolicited bulk email is not worth the trouble. Read on and you'll find that bulk email marketing isn't really necessary either.

2. Opt-in email list rental

A much "cleaner" version of bulk email marketing is "opt-in email list rental." There are plenty of companies on the web that will rent you email addresses that have opted in to receive commercial email. Actually, in most cases they are not really renting the addresses; that is, you never see the addresses. Instead, they charge you a per email address fee for mailing your message to a list under their management. But does it work...?

As long the recipients are not being paid to read the messages and they are genuinely interested in the offers they signed up to receive, this strategy can be profitable. The problem is that in most cases you'll pay from ten to twenty cents per address and mailing to a list large enough to get great results can get quite expensive.

But if your budget can handle it, you can generate some great targeted traffic. I've tried a few list rentals myself, though not recently. The best was from the site postmasterdirect.com which has millions of addresses in a huge variety of categories under management.

3. Email newsletter classified and sponsorship advertising

Now let's jump to a more reasonably priced email marketing solution... "email newsletter classified and sponsorship advertising". In my opinion this one still gives the best bang for the buck, especially for small businesses with modest advertising budgets.

Some people think I recommend ezine advertising because I have an ezine and I'm trying to sell my own ad space. On the contrary, I've been trying NOT to sell my ad space for the last few years. That's why my own rates are fairly high! I can run my own offers or affiliate offers and make much more than I can selling the ad space. Many other ezine editors are finding the same thing. While this has resulted in rising ezine ad costs over the last few years, one fact remains... ezine advertising is still one of the most effective ways to get targeted traffic -- cheap.

Ezine advertising works best when you locate ezines that your target market actually look forward to reading. And that's not difficult to do... Just visit an ezine directory and search for ezines in your niche market. Subscribe to a bunch of free ezines and read them as they arrive. Look for larger circulation ezines that have a good following.

If you like the content in any particular ezine, then hundreds or thousands of other readers probably do too. Place a classified ad and if your site and offer are up to snuff, you'll make a profit nearly every time. If you can swing a top sponsorship ad, that works about five times better than a regular classified ad! Here are two solid ezine directories you can scour and locate lots of ezines that target your particular niche...

4. Email newsletter solo mailings (text and html)

An even better way to utilize email newsletters to drive traffic and sales is to purchase "email newsletter solo mailings." I've been able to locate both text and html solo mailing offers lately and some ezine publishers really underprice these. (especially compared to list rental costs.)

I've found html email to be especially effective, returning 4-5 times the cost of the ad in most cases. Once again, the list should be tightly targeted to your niche audience for best results. Use the same directories above to locate ezines that reach your best prospects and you'll undoubtedly find some that offer this type of advertising.

5. Email newsletter network advertising

The next email marketing strategy which I've been using quite a bit lately is "email newsletter network advertising." In a nutshell, you pay email newsletter management sites to run top sponsorship ads across their network of newsletters. The traffic can be targeted to just about any niche and it's faster that finding each of the ezines yourself.

Although this requires a larger initial investment than running ads in individual ezines, in the long run it is usually cheaper and it requires much less effort. The best advertising resource I've ever found on the web is an email newsletter network. It's one of the proven, super-resources I share only with my Make-A-Living-Online.com members!

6. Opt-in "series" email marketing

Finally, I'd like to cover one last email marketing strategy which very few Internet businesses use, and use properly. It's called "opt-in series email marketing." This is a secret weapon many of the big name marketers prefer not to talk about much. It works like this... You offer an attractive and irresistible freebie at your site, (in most cases this works best via a pop up or pop-under) and when your visitors claim their freebie, they are required to enter then name and email address.

They then are subscribed to your series of personalized, scheduled email messages that you have pre-written. The best type of series is one that offers free valuable help and information about the subject they were looking for help on in the first place.

A well-written email series will form relationships with your best prospects, something that holds more value than most online businesses realize. The best part of this strategy is that once you do the setup work, everything is completely automated and personalized.

There are a number of sites that offer follow-up email autoresponder services. I use my Web Business Wizard service for my own follow ups and it has worked wonders for my business. When used properly, and with a bit of originality and flare, this email marketing strategy can be one of your top sales producers.

The Right Kind of Web Marketing

If you want to succeed with your internet business (and that means to earn some significant income and make it lasting and growing…) you have to meet these two conditions.
Yes, only two (2):

1. Find the right group of people (build targeted traffic to your website);
2. Communicate your marketing message in a way to convert part of your visitors (the more, the better) into buyers;

The first condition to start internet business obviously is to have your own web site. I don’t think it’s a good idea to buy a ready made site because there are thousands such a web-twins out-there.

Buying such a site will deprive you from exposing and showing the visitors your own unique marketing style and understanding.

We were talking about building high traffic website. Remember this: Internet marketing is simple, doable, but veeery slooow process.

"I did everything myself - built the site in HTML 1.0, learned how to use FTP programs, figured out how to build a banner, and things like that. I was glued to my computer 24 hours a day testing all kinds of wild and crazy marketing ideas to see which ones worked.
