Publishing an easy way to root your Sony Xperia Arc S:-

Sony has already rolled out Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) to many of its Xperia 2011 Android handsets. Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc LT15i users who’ve just flashed the OTA Ice Cream Sandwich firmware (4.1.A.0.562) may be a little heartbroken to find some trouble regarding root privileges. Rooting methods in the past will certainly not work, but luckily for us, you can still root your phone using DooMLoRD’s kernel and flashing it via Fastboot. The custom kernel also incorporates a modified version of ClockworkMod Recovery, so it’s a two-in-one thing.
Check out the guide below to root your Xperia Arc running Ice Cream Sandwich firmware.

Requirements

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc (LT15i) running Ice Cream Sandwich firmware 4.1.A.0.562 with locked or unlocked bootloader
- You can manually apply the official ICS update on your Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc LT15i.
Windows PC
ADB drivers installed on your computer (Flashtool-drivers.exe, md5sum: 3ceff17ea876b403441bb54092d9d00a)
Enable USB Debugging on your phone. You can do this by heading to Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging. Make sure that there is a check mark beside that option.
Enable Unknown Sources on your phone. You can do this by heading to Settings > Security > Unknown Resources. Make sure that there is a check mark beside that option.

Instructions

Rooting via Fastboot

Download the following files and save them to your PC:
- Superuser package (Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip, 625 kB)
- ARC-DooMKernel file (ARC-DooMKernel-ICS-BETA-v04-lower-boot.img, 7.6 MB)
- Fastboot (Fastboot.zip, 404 kB)
Connect your Xperia Arc to your PC via the USB cable.
Copy the Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip file to the root of your phone’s SD card.
Disconnect your phone from your PC.
Extract Fastboot.zip file and place the extracted folder in the C:\ directory on your PC. The extracted folder named Fastboot will contain four files inside.
Copy the ARC-DooMKernel-ICS-BETA-V04-lower-boot.img file and place it inside the Fastboot folder. You should have 5 files by now in the Fastboot folder.
Connect your Xperia Arc to your PC but this time around you must be in Fastboot mode. You can do this by first plugging in your USB cable to your PC. Hold the Menu key of your phone then connect the other end of the USB cable to your phone.
On your PC, launch a command prompt from Start > All Programs > Accessories.
At the command prompt, enter the following commands and hit the Enter key after each command:
- cd c:\Fastboot
- fastboot boot ARC-DooMKernel-ICS-BETA-v04-lower-boot.img
Important! Once the kernel has been flashed, your phone should automatically reboot itself. As soon as the Sony splash screen shows up and the blue LED lights up, press the Back button on your phone repeatedly to enter ClockworkMod Recovery.
In ClockworkMod Recovery, select Install ZIP from SD Card.
Select Choose ZIP from SD Card then browse for the downloaded Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip file and select it. Confirm the installation by selecting Yes on the screen that follows. It may take 2-3 minutes for the installation process to complete.
Head back to the main recovery menu by pressing the Back button on your phone.
Select Reboot System Now to reboot your phone.
Complete the rooting process by installing BusyBox on your phone, as it is required by many applications to use root access properly. You can install BusyBox by downloading the app from the Google Play Store.
Launch the BusyBox Installer app on your phone and select the Allow button to grant the application root access. Select Ok when a pop-up screen shows up. Select the Install button at the bottom to download and install BusyBox on your phone.

Rooting via one-click method

Download the Rooting Toolkit (DooMLoRD_v1_Xperia-2011-ICS-ROOT-emu-busybox-su.zip, MD5SUM: dc7f4a107e7d991572219404a9ca996e) for the Xperia 2011 ICS and save it to your PC.
Extract the downloaded file using any extracting software and place the files inside a folder.
Connect your phone to your PC via USB cable.
Double click the runme.bat that you obtained during extraction. This will also begin the rooting process. Wait for the application to finish rooting your phone.
After a while, you should be greeted with an “All Done” message. Your phone is now rooted.
Disconnect your phone from your PC.

Congratulations! You have successfully rooted your Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc LT15i running Ice Cream Sandwich firmware 4.1.A.0.562.

Downgrading to Gingerbread from Icecream Sandwich in Sony Xperia ArcS, is a procedure been followed to get back the features of your warranty breakdown because of rooting the phone, or else if you dont loved the Interface of ICS or any other simple reasons.

This is the safest method i tried on my phone and its pretty working well,,,

Very simple procedure to do in easy steps:-

1.Download the flash tool from the below link

2. Download the Gingerbread global file "Xperia Arc (LT18i)_4.0.2.A.0.42_CE" from below link

3. Install the flash tool.exe into your C drive

4.Now place the downloaded "Xperia Arc (LT18i)_4.0.2.A.0.42_CE" files C:\Flashtool\firmwares

5.On your phone enable usb debugging, which is present in the settings/applications/development

6.Now open flash tool and click first icon (thunder symbol) and select flash mode

7.Select your wt19i firmware and click ok now power off the device

8.Connect the usb cable to your phone while holding down the volume button.

9.Now your phone will be flashed, which normally takes 15-20minutes depending on your pc/laptop.

10.After flashing disconnect your phone and turn it on it may take few minutes to turn on for the first time.

Now your phone has been downgraded from ICS to Gingerbread,,,,,

Note this procedure works on Sony xperia phones.

Make a backup before you start.

This will show you how to reset Windows Update view update history, and how to reset and reregister Windows Update Components if you are having a problem updating with Windows Update.

OPTION ONE

To Only Reset Windows Update History

Note

Resetting Windows Update using this option will clear the view update history details list (cache).

This will not actually uninstall any of your currently installed Windows Update. They will just not be listed anymore. Any new Windows Update installed after the reset will show up in the view update history list as normal though.

1. Click on the Download button below to download this file below.

Reset_Windows_Update_History.bat

2. Click on Save, and save the .bat file to your Desktop.

3. Right click on the downloaded .bat file, and click on Run as administrator.

4. If prompted by UAC click on Run, then Yes (if administrator) or type in administrator's password (if standard user).

5. You will now see a elevated command prompt open and run. When it's finished, it will close automatically.

6. If opened, close and reopen Windows Update to verify that it has been reset.

7. Resetting the Windows Update history will also restore the default language packs being listed in Windows Upate again in the Windows 7 Ultimate and Enterprise editions after you check for updates next.

OPTION TWO

To Reset and Reregister Windows Update Components

NOTE: This option is the Windows 7 version of: How do I reset Windows Update components?. It will reset Windows Update Components and reregister the BITS files and the Windows Update files to help fix Windows Update errors. This option will not clear the view update history details list as it does in OPTION ONE above.1. Click on the Download button below to download this file below.

Troubleshooting

1.Go to Start>>Search>>Services.msc

and check below services exist, have correct settings and are working

COM+ Event System :Automatic (started)

Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS):Manual or Automatic(Delayed Start)

If you have another settings you have to correct it.If COM+ Event System is not started then please run it manually,next run manually BITS service.

Note

Please save order with running services.BITS service dependce from COM+ Event System -if this service is not working BITS service will not work too.

2.Download my fix for BITS service and unpack it anywhere e.g on your desktop
3..Run cmd.exe with administrative previlliges (right click on cmd.exe and choose "run as admin") and type:

psexec -s -i -d regedit

4.Go to File>>Import choose location where you stored BITSWIN7.reg file,choose it and apply.

5.Restart Computer

Change the fonts of Windows 7 and other settings

1. If you have Windows 7 Starter or Home Basic
A) Open the Control Panel (icons view), and click on the Display icon.

B) In the left blue pane, click on the Change color scheme link. (see screenshot below)

C) Click on the Advanced button. (see screenshot below)

D) Go to step 3.

2. If you have Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate, or Enterprise
A) Right click on a empty space on the desktop and click on Personalize. (see screenshot below)

B) Click on the Window Color link at the bottom of the window. (See screenshot below)

C) Click on the Advanced appearance settings link. (See screenshot below)

Warning

If you have selected a Basic and High Contrast Themes, then you will not see the screenshot. Instead, you will see the screenshot below step 4.

If you have selected a Aero Themes, then you will see the screenshot. Continue to step 4.

3. Select a Item that you want to change the font for. (see screenshots below)
NOTE: Not all of these items will have a font for them.

4. To Change the Item Font
A) Click on the Font drop down menu and select a font. (see screenshot below)

5. To Change the Item Font Size
A) Click on the Size drop down menu and select a number for the size. The higher the number, the larger the size. (see screenshot above)

6. To Change the Item Font Color
A) Click on the Color drop down menu and select a color. (see screenshot below step 4)

7. To Have the Item Font in Bold
A) Click the B button to highlight it. If it is not highlighted, then the font will not be in bold. (see screenshot below step 4)

8. To Have the Item Font in Italic
A) Click on the I button to highlight it. If it is not highlighted, then the font will not be in italic. (see screenshot below step 4)

9. Repeat steps 3 to 8 until you have changed all of the fonts for the select items that you wanted.

10. When done, click on OK. (see screenshots below step 3)

11. Close the Window Color and Appearance window. (see screenshot below step 2B)
NOTE: You will not have this to do if you have a Basic and High Contrast Themes selected.

OPTION TWO

To Change or Restore Default Dialog Box Text and Buttons Fonts

NOTE: This will let you change the default fonts for most of the Windows 7 dialog box text and button text through the registry.

1. To Change the Dialog Box Text and Buttons Fonts
A) Open the Start Menu, type regedit in the search box, and press Enter.

B) If prompted by UAC, then click on Yes.

C) In regedit, navigate to the location below (See screenshots below)
NOTE: The default fonts are the ones displayed below.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes
D) In the right pane, right click on MS Shell Dlg and click on Modify. (See screenshot above)

E) Type in the name of the font you want to use and click on OK. (See left screenshot below)
NOTE: You can get the name of the font from the Font Folder Location C:\Windows\Fonts. Right click on the single font and click on Properties to see the file name. For a font group, you will need to open it first to see the single fonts in it. Be sure that you use the exact same font name that is listed. Do not include the Regular part or file extension in the font name. For example, I would type Impact instead of Impact Regular or Impact.ttf.

F) In the right pane, right click on MS Shell Dlg 2 and click on Modify. (See screenshot below step 1C)

G) Type in the name of the font you want to use and click on OK. (See left screenshot below)

NOTE: This changes the default fonts in Windows 7 to the Tahoma font. You could use this REG file download to make doing step 2 below easier by editing the REG file for the font you want to use instead of Tahoma.

A) Click on the Download button below, and download the file below.
Set_Tahoma_Default_Font.reg

B) Click on Save, and save the .reg file to the desktop.

C) Right click the downloaded .reg file and click on Merge.

D) Click on Run, Yes, Yes, and OK when prompted.

E) Log off and log on, or restart the computer to apply changes.

F) When done, you can delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

As the tradition with flagship smartphones goes, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus was taken apart by the crafty guys over at iFixit. The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich pioneer internals were mercilessly exposed and are now available for your viewing pleasure.

The first finding that the teardown brought is that the NFC antenna is inside the battery, rather than the back cover. It’s located underneath the paper that contains the battery specs, along with all the usual warnings, so if you are to replace the Galaxy Nexus battery, make sure that the replacement has an antenna too.
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus was found to be moderately hard to repair, getting a score of 6 out of 10. The main issue is that the display is fused to both the Gorilla glass on top of it and the frame around it, so replacing either of those will require either some skills with the heat gun or purchasing the whole package, which is pretty expensive

Normally, it goes like this – a cool product enters the market and the crafty guys from ifixit take its shiny new body to pieces and expose every chip hiding inside. Well that didn’t happen with the Samsung Galaxy Note, so the Koreans took it upon them to perform the task.

Samsung has provided detailed descriptions of all the important Galaxy Note functional elements. You should keep in mind that what we have here is the US version of the Note, featuring a Qualcomm chipset and LTE, instead of Exynos and HSPA+.

Here’s the Galaxy Note breakdown, as provided by Samsung:

1. S Pen
What would the GALAXY Note be without the S Pen? Still a pretty awesome phone, but that’s not the point.
The S-Pen uses electromagnetic induction technology and has pressure sensitivity equal to a regular pen. Your input on the screen varies with the amount of pressure you put, making it a seamless re-creation of writing with an actual pen.
2. OCTA (On-Cell TSP AMOLED)
The 5.29 HD Super-AMOLED display (1280×800) is combined with the Touchscreen panel (TSP).
3. Digitizer
The digitizer interacts with the S-Pen to sense the pen-tip’s location and the amount of pressure. By establishing an electromagnetic field, it blocks the noise and magnetism through the shield plate.
4. Bracket
The bracket is like the Note’s backbone, holding together all the custom parts to maximize space efficiency.
5. Main PCB
With over 1000 different parts included in the mainboard, it fully utilizes Samsung’s integration technology.
5-1 (Front)
Acceleration Sensor – Detects the tilting motion of the Note, whether you’re turning it sideways for a widescreen view or turning it to play games.
Gyro Sensor – Detects the up, down and sideways motion of the phone.
Proximity Sensor – Detects when a detectable object comes close to the phone. Prevents unwanted input during calls or other situations.
Light Sensor – Detects the brightness, used to adjust the screen brightness accordingly.

Motorola RAZR Ice Cream Sandwich ROM leaks

An ICS ROM for the GSM version of the Motorola RAZR has leaked online that gives a glimpse of what we could expect later during the year when it starts rolling out officially.

At first glance it looks almost stock but that's mostly because it is still in the developmental stage and there is a lot of work left to be done on it. only visible changes are a new lock screen that features four custom spots where you can drag the lock icon and the option to put the phone on silent or vibration, sorely missing from the stock ICS ROM. Also new is a camera app that is similar to the one on the current Gingerbread ROM for the RAZR.

Unfortunately, the final version may be drastically different, which, considering Motorola's track record, not something we're looking forward to. Hopefully, Motorola sees sense and keeps the customization to a minimum.

Sony plans to upgrade its two Android tablets to Android 4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich, this spring, at about the same time that it delivers the update to its Xperia smartphone line. The Tablet S and Tablet P, we've been told, are already running ICS and are being tested behind the scenes, though Sony wouldn't be drawn on giving any more specific a release window than the spring. The company does plan to add "some really cool unique bits" on top of Android 4.0 especially for its tablet devices, but once again the details of what those additions might be were withheld from us. We don't mind a bit of mystery to our future and the most important news is now confirmed, anyway: ICS is coming to the Tablet S and Tablet P over the next few months. Xperia Phones can be upgraded to 4.0

Focused on bringing the power of Android to the surface, Android 4.0 makes common actions more visible and lets you navigate with simple, intuitive gestures. Refined animations and feedback throughout the system make interactions engaging and interesting. An entirely new typeface optimized for high-resolution screens improves readability and brings a polished, modern feel to the user interface.
Virtual buttons in the System Bar let you navigate instantly to Back, Home, and Recent Apps. The System Bar and virtual buttons are present across all apps, but can be dimmed by applications for full-screen viewing. You can access each application's contextual options in the Action Bar, displayed at the top (and sometimes also at the bottom) of the screen.
Multitasking is a key strength of Android and it's made even easier and more visual on Android 4.0. The Recent Apps button lets you jump instantly from one task to another using the list in the System Bar. Widgets are resizable, so you can expand them to show more content or shrink them to save space.

New lock screen actions

The lock screens now let you do more without unlocking. From the slide lock screen, you can jump directly to the camera for a picture or pull down the notifications window to check for messages. When listening to music, you can even manage music tracks and see album art.

Quick responses for incoming calls

When an incoming call arrives, you can now quickly respond by text message, without needing to pick up the call or unlock the device. On the incoming call screen, you simply slide a control to see a list of text responses and then tap to send and end the call. You can add your own responses and manage the list from the Settings app.

Swipe to dismiss notifications, tasks, and browser tabs

Android 4.0 makes managing notifications, recent apps, and browser tabs even easier. You can now dismiss individual notifications, apps from the Recent Apps list, and browser tabs with a simple swipe of a finger.

Improved text input and spell-checking

The soft keyboard in Android 4.0 makes text input even faster and more accurate. Error correction and word suggestion are improved through a new set of default dictionaries and more accurate heuristics for handling cases such as double-typed characters, skipped letters, and omitted spaces. Word suggestion is also improved and the suggestion strip is simplified to show only three words at a time.
To fix misspelled words more easily, Android 4.0 adds a spell-checker that locates and underlines errors and suggests replacement words. With one tap, you can choose from multiple spelling suggestions, delete a word, or add it to the dictionary. You can even tap to see replacement suggestions for words that are spelled correctly. For specialized features or additional languages, you can now download and install third-party dictionaries, spell-checkers, and other text services.

Powerful voice input engine

Android 4.0 introduces a powerful new voice input engine that offers a continuous "open microphone" experience and streaming voice recognition. The new voice input engine lets you dictate the text you want, for as long as you want, using the language you want. You can speak continously for a prolonged time, even pausing for intervals if needed, and dictate punctuation to create correct sentences. As the voice input engine enters text, it underlines possible dictation errors in gray. After dictating, you can tap the underlined words to quickly replace them from a list of suggestions.

Data usage controls let you monitor total usage by network type and application and then set limits if needed.

Control over network data

Mobile devices can make extensive use of network data for streaming content, synchronizing data, downloading apps, and more. To meet the needs of you with tiered or metered data plans, Android 4.0 adds new controls for managing network data usage.
In the Settings app, colorful charts show the total data usage on each network type (mobile or Wi-Fi), as well as amount of data used by each running application. Based on your data plan, you can optionally set warning levels or hard limits on data usage or disable mobile data altogether. You can also manage the background data used by individual applications as needed.

Designed for accessibility

A variety of new features greatly enhance the accessibility of Android 4.0 for blind or visually impaired users. Most important is a new explore-by-touch mode that lets you navigate without having to see the screen. Touching the screen once triggers audible feedback that identifies the UI component below; a second touch in the same component activates it with a full touch event. The new mode is especially important to support users on new devices that use virtual buttons in the System Bar, rather than dedicated hardware buttons or trackballs. Also, standard apps are updated to offer an improved accessibility experience. The Browser supports a script-based screen reader for reading favorite web content and navigating sites. For improved readability, you can also increase the default font size used across the system.
The accessibility experience begins at first setup — a simple touch gesture during setup (clockwise square from upper left) activates all accessibility features and loads a setup tutorial. Once accessibility features are active, everything visible on the screen can be spoken aloud by the standard screen reader.

Contacts and profiles are integrated across apps and social networks, for a consistent, personal experience everywhere — from incoming calls to emails.

Throughout the system, your social groups, profiles, and contacts are linked together and integrated for easy accessibility. At the center is a new People app that offers richer profile information, including a large profile picture, phone numbers, addresses and accounts, status updates, events, and a new button for connecting on integrated social networks.
Your contact information is stored in a new "Me" profile, allowing easier sharing with apps and people. All of your integrated contacts are displayed in an easy to manage list, including controls over which contacts are shown from any integrated account or social network. Wherever you navigate across the system, tapping a profile photo displays Quick Contacts, with large profile pictures, shortcuts to phone numbers, text messaging, and more.

Unified calendar, visual voicemail

To help organize appointments and events, an updated Calendar app brings together personal, work, school, and social agendas. With user permission, other applications can contribute events to the calendar and manage reminders, for an integrated view across multiple calendar providers. The app is redesigned to let you manage events more easily. Calendars are color-coded and you can swipe left or right to change dates and pinch to zoom in or out agendas.
In the phone app, a new visual voicemail features integrates incoming messages, voice transcriptions, and audio files from one or more providers. Third-party applications can integrate with the Phone app to add your own voice messages, transcriptions, and more to the visual voicemail inbox.

Capture the picture you want, edit, and share instantly.

Rich and versatile camera capabilities

The Camera app includes many new features that let you capture special moments with great photos and videos. After capturing images, you can edit and share them easily with friends.
When taking pictures, continuous focus, zero shutter lag exposure, and decreased shot-to-shot speed help capture clear, precise images. Stabilized image zoom lets you compose photos and video in the way you want, including while video is recording. For new flexibility and convenience while shooting video, you can now take snapshots at full video resolution just by tapping the screen as video continues to record.
To make it easier to take great pictures of people, built-in face detection locates faces in the frame and automatically sets focus. For more control, you can tap to focus anywhere in the preview image.
For capturing larger scenes, the Camera introduces a single-motion panorama mode. In this mode, you start an exposure and then slowly turn the Camera to encompass as wide a perspective as needed. The Camera assembles the full range of continuous imagery into a single panoramic photo.

An improved Picture Gallery widget lets you look at pictures directly on the home screen. The widget can display pictures from a selected album, shuffle pictures from all albums, or show a single image. Improved email

In Android 4.0, email is easier to send, read, and manage. For composing email, improved auto-completion of recipients helps with finding and adding frequent contacts more quickly. For easier input of frequent text, you can now create quick responses and store them in the app, then enter them from a convenient menu when composing. When replying to a message, you can now toggle the message to Reply All and Forward without changing screens.
For easier browsing across accounts and labels, the app adds an integrated menu of accounts and recent labels. To help you locate and organize IMAP and Exchange email, the Email app now supports nested mail subfolders, each with synchronization rules. You can also search across folders on the server, for faster results.
For enterprises, the Email app supports EAS v14. It supports EAS certificate authentication, provides ABQ strings for device type and mode, and allows automatic sync to be disabled while roaming. Administrators can also limit attachment size or disable attachments.
For keeping track of incoming email more easily, a resizable Email widget lets you flick through recent email right from the home screen, then jump into the Email app to compose or reply.

Look of the phone is also an important set back as the phone is very much similar to Samsung Corby and is a turn off for many people as they go for stylish looks also. Sony Ericsson Xperia X 10 Mini Pro is also a phone priced within the same range, but it has been equipped with a QWERTY keypad and elite looks. May be it is here that the phone will lose to it.
The Phone is stylish in its own way and has plenty to offer to its owner and specially in case of browsing the internet but a little precision while finalizing the blueprint of the phone would have been better. 3 out of 5 stars!

The phone has a resolution of QVGA (240 X 320) pixels. The phone works on an Android system of 2.2.2 along with TouchWiz user interface (version 3.0). In case of QWERTY keypad phones one must remember that one has to compete with BlackBerry for sure and in such regard features also needs to be elite. The Camera quality is not that good and the front camera for video calling is also missing. The phone also fails to support any adobe flash files which are a big time drawback. Perhaps the biggest drawback is found in terms of the operating system. With the availability of Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the company still uses Android 2.2 Froyo version.
Final Verdict:
The phone though looks promising unfortunately fails to stand on its own ground, which is to be a hybrid phone. The Camera quality is also not good which makes it infamous for teenagers. The phone is priced about RS 9, 000 which does not makes a good deal apart from the Android Processor 2 out of 5 stars!
