According to various analysts the sub $200. priced Kindle Fire will be a hit with e-reader fans and those looking for additional options in a 7" form factor. Ironically the advanced technology of the Kindle Fire puts the Barnes and Noble color Book a few steps behind the ball now. It will be interesting to see if B&N bring a new Nook to market soon.

It looks like AT&T will be the first carrier to launch the latest version of HTC Sense. It will show up on the Android powered Inspire 4G the first half of this year. The 4.3 inch display and 1GHz processor has much in common with Sprint's EVO 4G released last summer.

It appears Sprint will release the first 4G version of the BlackBerry PlayBook. The 7" tablet is loaded with goodness and having 4G speeds just enhances all its features. Here is the oddifical press release from their CES event.

Kindle Users Now Can Loan Books

Amazon has enabled book sharing for up to 14 days via their Kindle e-Readers. Here are the details from Amazon:

Eligible Kindle books can be loaned once for a period of 14 days. The borrower does not need to own a Kindle -- Kindle books can also be read using our free Kindle reading applications for PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android devices. Not all books are lendable -- it is up to the publisher or rights holder to determine which titles are eligible for lending. The lender will not be able to read the book during the loan period.

2011 Stat: 48 Million Tablets To Ship

According to Tawain’s Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center their will be 48 million tablets shipped throughout the new year. Of that number 25% of them will run a version of the Android OS. However, these numbers are quite different than those suggested by DigiTimes that state we can expect 65 million iPads alone shipped during next year. Whichever number turns out to be correct there is little doubt that 2011 will be a huge year for tablets and we at Smartphone Headlines also believe e-Readers.

iPad Has Not Saved The Magazine Industry

At the BGR there is an interesting article about magazine publisher's hopes that the iPad could create new revenue channels. Sadly we learn from the article it has not.

When Apple’s iPad was first introduced earlier this year, magazine publishers saw a great opportunity to combat declining subscriptions with a new distribution channel. The iOS-powered iPad would also allow publishers to get creative and introduce enhanced, interactive features that could not be achieved with traditional print. According to numbers available from the Audit Bureau of Circulations, however, magazine publishers’ hopes of having found a savior in the iPad are all but dashed. Every big name magazine title available on the iPad has seen its purchase rate decline since introduction, and most didn’t find much success to begin with.

EVO Shift 4G Launches January 9th

The QWERTY baby brother to the Sprint EVO 4G will launch on the Now Network January 9th. This is based on a leaked Radio Shack ad that Android Central posted earlier this evening. It will be interesting to see what the interest will be especially since we are just finishing a round of holiday smartphone releases.
