Hi folks, sorry for the archaeology here, some years ago my phone died, taking with it some of my podcast lists, one of which being kind of ultrabullish steemit world-call/podcast/twitter AMA with people changing their lives by making 100s or 1000s of dollars participating in Steem and stuff. I admit there might have been more than one such show. Then the fork happened and I didn't have the bandwidth to follow the forcalypse. Does any one know what happened to those bullish masterminds? Did they continue on Hive or did they fade like I did? The show did sound like it was saving lives, it would be fantastic if Hive carried the torch!

Today, we’re excited to announce the launch of the Open Model Initiative, a new community-driven effort to promote the development and adoption of openly licensed AI models for image, video and audio generation.

We believe open source is the best way forward to ensure that AI benefits everyone. By teaming up, we can deliver high-quality, competitive models with open licenses that push AI creativity forward, are free to use, and meet the needs of the community.

Ensuring access to free, competitive open source models for all.

With this announcement, we are formally exploring all available avenues to ensure that the open-source community continues to make forward progress. By bringing together deep expertise in model training, inference, and community curation, we aim to develop open-source models of equal or greater quality to proprietary models and workflows, but free of restrictive licensing terms that limit the use of these models.

Without open tools, we risk having these powerful generative technologies concentrated in the hands of a small group of large corporations and their leaders.

From the beginning, we have believed that the right way to build these AI models is with open licenses. Open licenses allow creatives and businesses to build on each other's work, facilitate research, and create new products and services without restrictive licensing constraints.

Unfortunately, recent image and video models have been released under restrictive, non-commercial license agreements, which limit the ownership of novel intellectual property and offer compromised capabilities that are unresponsive to community needs.

Given the complexity and costs associated with building and researching the development of new models, collaboration and unity are essential to ensuring access to competitive AI tools that remain open and accessible.

We are at a point where collaboration and unity are crucial to achieving the shared goals in the open source ecosystem. We aspire to build a community that supports the positive growth and accessibility of open source tools.

For the community, by the community

Together with the community, the Open Model Initiative aims to bring together developers, researchers, and organizations to collaborate on advancing open and permissively licensed AI model technologies.

The following organizations serve as the initial members:

Invoke, a Generative AI platform for Professional Studios
ComfyOrg, the team building ComfyUI
Civitai, the Generative AI hub for creators

To get started, we will focus on several key activities:

•Establishing a governance framework and working groups to coordinate collaborative community development.

•Facilitating a survey to document feedback on what the open-source community wants to see in future model research and training

•Creating shared standards to improve future model interoperability and compatible metadata practices so that open-source tools are more compatible across the ecosystem

•Supporting model development that meets the following criteria: ‍

True open source: Permissively licensed using an approved Open Source Initiative license, and developed with open and transparent principles
Capable: A competitive model built to provide the creative flexibility and extensibility needed by creatives
Ethical: Addressing major, substantiated complaints about unconsented references to artists and other individuals in the base model while recognizing training activities as fair use.

‍We also plan to host community events and roundtables to support the development of open source tools, and will share more in the coming weeks.

Invoke is incredible software and an amazing breath of fresh air in the SD tooling world

I have spent the last several weeks testing just about every single noteworthy GUI for Stable Diffusion. Every single one has its perks, but they all seem to share the same serious downsides.

But Invoke solves the one issue that every other package fails to solve: it just works.

Seriously, you install it, and it just works.

Controlnets just works
IPAdapter just works
Inpainting, regional prompting just work
Importing models, LORA's, etc... is extremely easy

And they're all just buttons on the screen, no configuring nodes, no installing.

Nothing to download manually (some things like IPAdapters you do need to download, but it's just 1 button you click inside the model browser inside the app and they're all set up automatically.) No searching huggingface or github or renaming files or putting them in the right folder.

No random python dependency issues. You open it, and everything is working. And their community edition is entirely free.

And if you're willing to pay for a subscription, they have an online model trainer that also works incredibly well. Just drop in some images, and it spits out a functional Lora. Which I tested and it worked perfectly. And online web app as well, if your computer cant run SD locally.

And just visually the interface is so simple and makes a lot of sense compared to eg: Automatic1111 or StableSwarm

OOM on 12gb card with SDXL and 1 LoRA?

I'm having a rough time using LoRAs in InvokeAI - I can generally run SDXL just fine on my 3060 12gb (32gb system RAM), and usually have plenty of VRAM overhead, but as soon as I load a LoRA, I get Out of Memory errors when I try to generate. By the numbers it lists, it seems like it should be fine (6.96gb free, tried to allocate 30.00 MiB).

CUDA out of memory. Tried to allocate 30.00 MiB (GPU 0; 12.00 GiB total capacity; 3.82 GiB already allocated; 6.96 GiB free; 3.99 GiB reserved in total by PyTorch)

If I run the generation again immediately after this, I get a system Out of Memory instead, but again with over 10gb of system memory free:

RuntimeError: [enforce fail at ..\c10\core\impl\alloc_cpu.cpp:72] data. DefaultCPUAllocator: not enough memory: you tried to allocate 52428800 bytes.

Any ideas on what's going on here?

Please do not buy anything crypto that is attempting to affiliate with Invoke. We assure you that whatever scammer is reaping the rewards of that endeavor are not supporting us.

To emphasize this point to the community, please see the below:

Invoke AI is free and open-sourced. You do not need to pay anything (crypto or otherwise) to use it.
The OSS version of Invoke AI is supported financially by the commercial team who offers a hosted product for enterprises/teams. Crypto is not involved in supporting the project, at all.
There are no plans for Invoke AI to ever build anything on, in, or around a blockchain.
Invoke AI CEO (hipsterusername) has issued the following statement regarding this matter: "I once bought an NFT of a picture of a horse so that I could ride it in the metaverse. It has depreciated in value significantly since I purchased it, and I am still unable to live out my equestrian dreams. I curse the name of the man who told me that .jpg would make me rich and happy. Please don't be like me - don't fall prey to crypto grifters."

As I was looking around for Automatic 1111 Discord bots that could run on my own machine, I didn't really find one that was quite what I wanted. So, I decided to make my own.

It's written in Go, because that's my preferred language. And, as a bonus, that means that dependencies are easily managed, and it can compile on a wide range of platforms.

Admittedly, it's currently a little bare bones, but I'm planning on adding more features to flesh it out. The goal was to create something a bit like Midjourney's Discord bot (ease of use, complexities mostly hidden from users), but backed by my own local instance of Automatic 1111.

Also, any pull requests or additions are welcome. It's honestly created for my own personal use, but figured I'd post it here in case others had some cooler ideas for it, or found it useful for themselves.
