After a long time, i am writing here. Well, there are lots of things going around and so quite busy with daily life. If you are regular visitor of smashingfeeds.com, then you know that the site was down since long time. There were some issues and now site is up.

Bonjour,

There was a deep silence since long time. Well, today is something good to share with you. A new feature rolled out to the site called “Tweet This”. So what is this ?

You may noticed a small twitter icon at the end of each post.

Now you can tweet the post directly from this site. Just click on the twitter image and you are done.

More over it will short the URL of the post to make it fit within 140 characters limit. Hope you like this feature.

As usual, i will wait for your feedback. Let me know what do you think about this new feature.

Site Is Restored Back

Hello... There has been an issue since a while with the domain http://www.smashingfeeds.com and i received many emails as well as tweets about this.

Well, the issue was that the domain was about to expired and i asked my domain registrar to renew it, however due to some issue it didn’t happen and so domain was automatically went to parking list. Finally, issue was identified and not site is restored back.

All the users of "Tweet This" button were affected. It was noticed that all those blogs and sites who installed this widget, were redirected to http://smashingfeeds.com site. I am not sure why was that happened.

Now site and widget are working fine.

Which View Do you Prefer ? One Column, Two Columns or Three Columns…

When smashingfeeds.com was launched starting of this year, it has default three column view. Many comments/suggestions on the blogosphere say that three column view will not work any more. People are tired with that. I don’t know whether that’s the real case or not.

Anyway, we considered those suggestions and finally providing more flexibility for all readers. We added three options for display. You can choose either

one column view
two columns view or
three columns view

just by clicking on the options as shown in below image. You can find them on right top side just below the category menu:

One can switch among these options.

Finally thanks to jQuery team for providing such a great library.

New VC Category and Homepage

Hi,

There is a small update to SmashingFeeds.com. First the addition of new homepage. In previous version, when you open the site, it will by default show you the feed content from technology. Now with this new homepage, you will find all categories on one page. You can pick one of them based on your interest. The main reason is to show all categories on a single page rather than menu (menu is still there). This makes more visibility.

Another update is the addition of new "VC" category. This covers the news stories from all best Venture Capital blogs and websites.

Feed Arrangement Is Back

Site is up again. AS i mentioned in last post about hacking of this site by iSKORPiTX; (TURKISH HACKER). I am still not clear the intension behind hacking of this site. Most of the people say they do such things just for being popular and fun. I always keep back ups for there is no issue.

Well, there is another update. We launched feed arrangement feature couple of moths back. One can re-arrange all feeds as per choice. This feature was removed in new version of the site due to some technical issues.

It took some time to fix the issue and now this feature is back. Hope you will enjoy it.

SmashingFeeds.com Is Hacked

It looked strange to me when i first noticed few files at my FTP server which was not created by me. I opened them up and it said that site is hacked by BY iSKORPiTX; (TURKISH HACKER). This is strange as there is no database smashingfeeds.com maintaining. So i don’t understand why does someone take interest in hacking this site.

I changed my login details and password immediately. The hacked page screenshot is shown below :

I am not able to upload any files to FTP server right now. So currently site is down.

It has been a long time since i wrote my last post on this blog. Well, there are lots of things going on. I was in US for a month period and updating my personal blog i-Stuff…Interesting Stuff that Matters. Also working with twitter mash up..

Oh yes, i am currently working with twitter mash-up. Will soon tell you about it as its just a idea right now and will take sometime to shape it up. Currently facing problem with twitter APIs. Well, there is a small update to SmashingFeeds.com. If you are a regular visitor, then you would have already noticed it. There is a small “eye” icon which is added today. There are couple of suggestions i received to add this feature. When you click on the “eye” icon on the right side below the category menu, it will display only headlines of news stories as below.

Many times, it becomes difficult to go through the entire page. This “eye” button help you to scan the headline faster.

Its a kind of toggle button. So if you want to display author information, publication date as well as small description about news, then click the “eye” icon again and it will show these additional details. So its just a click away to switch between two views of news.

Yesterday there was a tremendous traffic to smashingfeeds.com. I was just surprised. Then i found out the source of traffic and it was because of ReadWriteWeb.

They write a very nice post about this website. Title was ”Smashing Feeds: Get the Latest Twitter and FriendFeed News”. As per them, tweet is something interesting category.

“The aggregated news coverage sites are separated into categories such as Technology, Business, Productivity, Web 2.0, and more. None of these sections are new, but their "Tweet" section is a definite eye catcher.”

“Basically, you can get the hottest and most popular Twitter links from various services all on one page.”

They also pointed out good thing to improve the site.

“Bouncing from site to site that aggregates the hottest or most popular links on Twitter can be a chore. Users usually end up just picking on site and sticking with it. The 'Tweet' section of Smashing Feeds solves this problem. However, the randomness of some of the aggregated sites are weird. Why are random twitter messages and FriendFeed messages being aggregated as news? I'd suggest they stick to the sites that do most of the aggregation for them and aggregate those sites for the 'Tweet' section. Beyond that, Smashing Feed isn't offering anything better than the competition.”

New Design To Save Energy

Hi Guys,

It’s after a long time, i am writing about smashingfeeds. Well, there is a major site redesigning happened last week. You probably have noticed the new look. It’s basically related to a black background.

Inspired by earth day, i thought to change the back ground color to black to save some amount of energy and this way i can be the part of energy saving efforts as saving energy is equivalent to generating new energy.

"Image displayed is primarily a function of the user's color settings and desktop graphics, as well as the color and size of open application windows; a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen." Roberson et al, 2002

This inspired me to change the background color of this website to black from white. Each time user visit this site, this new site design will help to save some amount of energy.

SmashingFeeds.com Is Redesigned

Today i spent couple of hours in redesigning the website. Tough it was not an easy task for me to change the look, however i was somehow able to manage it.

Well, there is no major change to the features. Only look and feel (CSS) is re-designed to make it better than older design. Logo size is reduced and top menu is replaced by a simple menu at right top corner.

Area of feed items display block is increased by few pixels.

Also there were couple of updates along with this re-designing work. First is the addition of 'tweet' option in the menu. Here you will find various RSS feeds related to Twitter as well as FriendFeed. Both site are becoming popular these days. Also option is available for blog owner. If you own a blog and want to display content of your blog on SmashingFeeds.com via RSS feed, then you can email me you site name and category details. I will review it and if it is good then i will add it to my site. Please not that before submitting your blog/site, make sure your site contains original content.

Feel free to provide your valuable feedback. Also let me know the features that you want to be there in this site.

Drag-n-Drop

There is a small update to SmashingFeeds.com. Drag-n-Drop feature is added for all feeds.

What does it mean ?

Now you can drag and drop all feeds on a page. This will help you in rearranging the existing feeds as per your choice. To re-arrange the feeds, just hover the mouse on feed head and drag it anywhere you would like to place it.

Well, this is not something new for web2.0. However i think this will provide some kind of flexibility to you. So that you can keep all your favorite feeds together by rearranging them.

Hi,

There are couple of updates on the SmashingFeeds.com which you probably have already observed if you are visiting the site regularly. Below are the few sub-categories added to the Offbeat category.

Also, initially there were options to collapse or expands all the feeds. However, now there is a single option to toggle the feeds. What it does is all that feeds which are currently collapsed will be expanded and vice versa.

There few features left which will be available some time later. So stay in touch and don't forget to subscribe to RSS feed.

There are few updates on the site. You probably have noticed two small buttons ( and ) on the right side just below the category menu.

: To expand all feeds
: To collapse all feeds

Note that by default all feeds are expanded.

More over you can collapse or expand individual feeds source just by clicking on them.

Finally i m back with a Good News !!

Site was down for more than 1 week. As i said, because of heavy traffic, there was an issue with band width. I upgraded it and Smashing Feeds is now active again.

I have good news as well as bad news to share with you. Let's start with something which is bad.

The bad news that i have today is that your favorite site SmashingFeeds is currently down.

The Good news is that the site has lots of visitors and becoming more popular.

Well, i hosted this site on a web server provided by my brother which doesn't have wide bandwidth. I thought the available bandwidth will be sufficient. But since last few days, site traffic was increased tremendously and the current bandwidth is not sufficient. So i m now looking for new web hosting service provide. Site will remain down till i find good hosting service provider. If you know someone reliable, then please let me know.
