It always amazes me why people are still buying brand new homes.

They have many many disadvantages with few advantages (see my website)
This is before you look at the falling standards of new homes and poor or non-existent customer care from the house builders.

The only explanation I can come up with is that the house builders make it "easier to buy" with deals and part-exchanges.

So if you have bought a new home, despite all the experiences in posts on this forum tell us why?

We are considering buying a property at Earlswood park Charles Church which we believe is part of Persimmon? It is due to be completed in June but we are not ready to move until October which would suit us better.
Does anyone know of this development and have any views on it?
From what I have read so far we should not consider Charles Church it at all.

We bought our home from Persimmon March 2011 and moved in to a muddy building site which is still not completed. We were promised a lovely Parkland setting which is still not accessable to anyone and is not finished. Part of the development 25% in fact is for affordable housing which means there are a lot of children wanting to play. Persimmon have so far not provided any play area for these children who under the Children's Act have "a right to play". Consequently they are playing all over the place where they shouldn't, due to their own gardens being rather waterlogged. The Development is at Hellingly where the ground has a high water table.

I am looking for some advice if possible; I am still having problems with my builder and the NHBC. I have obtained an independent report with regard to the quality of the brickwork on my property. The NHBC state that their publication “A consistent approach to finishes” is simply guidance as to how the builder might comply with their technical standards.

My independent report has identified a number of areas that fall outside of the “guidance” issued in the NHBC publication “A consistent approach to finishes” and number of areas that fall outside British Standards. NHBC technical services will not comment on British Standards or if the builder should have complied with British Standards.

The builder was contractually obliged to build the house “in a good and workman like manor”. I was wondering what the general opinion was. Do others feel that a property that fails to comply with British Standards and the NHBC publication “A consistent approach to finishes” has been constructed “in a good and workman like manor”.

I have made a formal complaint to the NHBC, the file was then reviewed however upheld the original findings (That the NHBC publication “A consistent approach to finishes” was guidance) without making reference to British Standards.

Until about 15 mins ago myself and my partner were looking into properties in persimons homes. Now after being scarred witless by the number of posts about them we have desided not to go with them. However there is alot of negative feedback about property developers.

So who does develop decent homes? Are there any in the bedfordshire area?

Any help would be appreciated.
Chances are that it does not include cover for:

This has potentially far reaching implications for all new home owners.
What if damage caused by a water leak was attributed to poor workmanship?
What if subsidence was attributed to poor or faulty design?
All the more reason to ensure your new home is built properly!

I bought a shared ownership flat about seven years ago and have had various problems with quality of the internal finish. Recently I noticed that the several of plaster boards had started to stand proud on several of the ceilings. I have contacted the NHBC but they have stated that my guarantee does not cover such things as plaster boards. I then contacted my landlord (which is a Housing Association) about the matter and they have stated that plaster board movement is typical in new builds and is not a sign of poor workmanship! Surly this can't be right? And do I have any recourse on the matter? All comments gratefully received.

Betts are now draining third garden, no work on mine as yet, I get the impression from those done being done that its been a sticking plaster solution. How do I make sure the job is done right. Should I get advice from a landscaper/gardening firm. The fact there is almost no topsoil in most of the gardens seems to be one reason drainage is so bad. Twelve occupied homes need their gardens drained. Soil is mostly blue clay, from what I have seen of the earth that has been dumped from the three gardens that have been drained, it sets like concrete. So far we only have grass on ours but some have tried planting trees and bushes, gave up when holes dug filled with water, water was still in holes several weeks later.:(

Calling all BOVIS new home owners.

Please make a post and tell the World what you think of your BOVIS new home.

We already know that despite being Britain's 8th largest house builder (by volume) building 2,045 new homes last year, they won just 5 NHBC quality awards.
Over the period 2006-2011 they have won a grand total of just 23 awards - averaging less than 4 each year.

In comparison, Crest built 25% FEWER homes, yet received twice the number of NHBC quality awards Bovis won.
Miller did even better, again building 25% FEWER homes but winning FIVE TIMES more NHBC quality awards than BOVIS.

Despite this, there are few recent posts about Bovis homes on here which is surprising.

So come on all you Bovis owners tell us about your Bovis Homes experieces.
Especially as they have managed to go from just 'two stars' in 2006 to the maximum 'five stars' this year in the HBF star rating scheme.

Hi all
I would like to call upon the expertise that a forum like this can provide , i'am an electrical engineer and iam current setting up a
up a property maintenance service, i have secured a Plumber,a Gas Engineer and general builders and decorators, all of which have their own business and
certificates and accdediations in their own fields. and are fully insured as indeed i'am . Basically i will obtain the work, and sub contract it out for a finders fee to the appriopiate set of tradesman whome i have an agreement with. Where i need your help is in my Advertisment, Flyers, and Business cards i wish to use the Appriopiate Trade Logos, (Gassafe) and ( NICEIC), but iam a little unsure if i would be breaking any laws?
My Adverts clearly state that the contractors are registered gassafe engineers. and contractors are NICEIC approved.
any information on this matter would be appreciated .
