We had a few of the most perfect Fall days in MD recently and I was so lucky to have a couple of outdoor on location photo sessions to keep me busy. These images are a few of my favorite from a Sunday morning session with the most adorable twins and their Mom and Dad. The park is right across the street from their house, so although we were “on location,” both children were comfortable in their surroundings. Having photographed them before, I was a familiar face which created more ease as we began the session.

It was hard to just choose a few pics to share on the blog … maybe I’ll create a small slide show and post that as well in the future. Mom and Dad will go through all of the photos in their private gallery and choose their favorites which we will use on their Christmas card.

VISION. It’s not for sale anywhere. You have to develop yours on your own. How you may ask? I’m still trying to figure that out. I look to other friends and photographers for inspiration and ideas that may fit in to my big picture. It’s always evolving though and I’m constantly re-shaping and re-thinking and re-sketching mine!

Lately I’ve been big on finding ways to boost personal creativity. Looking for projects that are personal and meaningful to me as an artist. Projects that will not only aid in my growth as a photographer, but as an individual.

I recently came across an idea that I thought was interesting: take portraits of everyone that comes to visit at your house! The pictures don’t have to be fancy and the process doesn’t have to take long. Make it a fun activity with your visitor and try to capture and show something about their personality in your image. I may try this during the holidays and after the baby arrives (because I know that’s when people will start visiting me again).

To jump start the creative juices, check out Gary Chapman’s blog to view his visitors:

Recently I had the opportunity to attend a lighting workshop in NYC to learn more about how to use basic lighting techniques to achieve anything but basic results! A small group of us were lead by the very talented Zak Arias, who shared with us the ups and downs of his photography journey and his visions for creating artistic and unique images at every session.

Thank you to the models who allowed us to practice on them all evening and to the other workshop attendees who also made great subjects during our small group assignment. It was such an inspiring and educational day.

And finally a shot of Rick Wenner, a talented photographer that I had the pleasure of working with on a small group project at the end of the day.

Yes … I realize I am months behind in my posts. Backed-up from summer actually! For those of you who don’t know, I’m expecting my second child in December and have been trying to manage all that comes with pregnancy with the extra side of health issues. Unfortunately, I’ve had to cut my holiday schedule short and limit my photo sessions to clients who are local. My sincere apologies to those clients and friends who I see every holiday season … I feel like I’m missing out on a part of your celebrations!

I am still creating cards and announcements, so if you have images that you would like to use in a holiday greeting, please contact me and I will work with you on a design. DEADLINE for card orders is December 4th.

The morning couldn’t have been better … beautiful Spring day in MD with sunshine and warmth, but no humidity (yet). I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. M and her Mom at the house to photograph Ms. M in her baptism dress. It was a beautiful dress with wonderful stiching, button and little details that really made it unique. I feel in love with the hair immediately and it didn’t take long to warm up to the cute little smile and personality either. Thank you for such a fun morning!

I haven’t been able to concentrate today. I spent several days in NYC where I was able to visit friends and attend a photography seminar. One of the highlights though of the trip was finally going to see the Broadway musical HAIR. The musical was wonderful - such great music and energy - but it was special for me because my friend Gavin plays the lead - Claude. My friendship with Gavin dates back to third grade (I won’t say how many years that is!) and I’ve been with him every step of the way on his journey. I was overwhelmed this morning when I watched them announce his name as a Tony nominee for Best Leading Actor in a Musical. This will be his second nomination (the first being for Thoroughly Modern Millie) and I pray that he not only enjoys the experience once again, but this time has a chance to make a speech. Please tune in to the Tony Awards on June 7th and keep your fingers crossed!

In case you’re wondering, Gavin is up on the right wearing the jeans and white shirt with his arms stretched out.
