Here are just some sights and scenes from the Farmer’s Market in Downtown. The Farmer’s Market is open every Saturday from 8 AM to 2 PM. It is a central venue for fresh vegetables, fruits, breakfast foods, jewelry, breads and much more. Find them on Facebook.

Lakeland can look like any other small town in Central Florida to a casual visitor. It is in the details where one finds the identity of the city.

Of the images Tammy sent me, I liked these two random images of spaces in Lakeland. They were taken by her daughter. They don’t speak much about Lakeland. However, they do make me want to pay attention to little details that give personality to an otherwise bland place like a nondescript ceiling tile or a plain shelf.

Hello, and welcome back to Snap Lakeland. Chuck Welch started this site (article) to showcase not only the city but also its photographers. I will be taking over the administration of this site from now on. I want to continue on Chuck’s idea of promoting the visuals that Lakeland has to offer.

Henri Cartier Bresson treated his photography as his personal sketchbook, a diary of sorts. In that regard, looking at photography is almost like looking into the private life of the photographer, reading his or her personal diary. This may be one of the more significant reasons we get drawn to the photographic medium. It is personal and therefore relatable, and it tells a story. Snap Lakeland is our opportunity to write the story of Lakeland one photograph at a time, the way we see Lakeland, the way we feel it. I am excited to be the new facilitator of this venue.

My work will involve promoting this site on the internets, uploading and formatting photographs into the CMS so they look good not only on the blog but also on the front-page, working on social networking, finding great photographers and asking them to join this venue, and curating the photographs to provide a high-quality viewing experience for visitors.

Update: In its previous life, Snap Lakeland granted CMS access to contributing photographers. I am going to let photographers who already have access maintain it. However, I will limit publishing abilities to myself. I do this to make sure the media library does not get overflowed with multiple variations of images, and the posts get categorized and credited properly. This provides a better viewing experience, makes the site run smoother, leaves the server space less cluttered and makes maintaining it easier. Photographers with prior access may choose to upload new posts to Snap Lakeland like they have been already (just insert the picture into the post via the “Add Media” button). They just wont be able to publish it themselves. Saved posts will remain as drafts awaiting for me to hit the Publish button. They could always choose to let me do the hard work by simply emailing me the image they wish to post.
