I teased him back by saying, "No, it's much worse, it's Mindfulness UltraLight".

In practicing meditation, one often comes across interesting surprises. My biggest surprise in practicing Shamatha (Calm Abiding), a practice leading to profound concentration, is the insight that relaxation forms the foundation of Shamatha. When the mind is relaxed, it becomes more calm and stable. These qualities deepen Shamatha, which in turn strengthens relaxation, thus forming a virtuous cycle. Paradoxically, deep concentration is built upon relaxation.

The Oscars made me sick. Not because my George Clooney did not win and attended with that faux-galpal-arm-candy instead of me. Not because Kathryn Bigelow, the first woman to win Best Director, was so ditsily girly at such a historic moment. But because the tribute to horror films was an unrelenting filmic homage to violence against women. The wink wink nudge nudge "it's just a genre" disclaimer did not work for me, especially after news footage of the actual horrifics of femicide in Nigeria.

A week later and I'm still sick to my stomach. It could be the Boniva my doctor prescribed to aid in the absorption of calcium. I took it just before I read the studies someone finally got around to doing. The drug shilled everywhere by Sally Field, the Flying Nun for god's sake, causes shattered femurs in women users. Images of Sally Field collapsing in a heap of bones on the set of Brothers and Sisters, taken out to the back-lot and euthanized. "You like me, you really really . . . blam." I'm not taking it anymore.

But the quirky political ad man who produced those two cult classics has introduced another memorable spot. This one, an eight-minute opus casting Sen.
Well here we are at the fourth, and last, installment of Almost Famous: On the Road with Nico Vega. It's slightly ironic because, well, I'm not on the road at all. Instead I'm in my studio apartment in New York - eating almonds and half-watching The Doors movie while typing away on my couch. Being back has been a hard adjustment for me. After feeling like a rockstar for 2 weeks straight, I had to go through the weaning process of reminding myself that not only do I not get to be a rockstar ever again, but that in reality, I never actually was!! The Road is a magical land - an unreal reality. It's a great place to be and a humbling place to return from.

I certainly did a lot of wide-eyed, self-indulgent writer's rambling on the trip; going from The Van, to The Greenroom to The Stage - all from my voyeuristic point of view. But now that the dust has settled, regular life has resumed, and I no longer perpetually have Nico Vega songs stuck in my head - I figured it's time I stopped my jibber jabbering and gave you guys what you undoubtedly want by now: an interview with the band.
