Who’s back? Refresh My memory. Also Jack. Who’s Jack? Well, let Jason Dedrick, Eric Fell and Vicky Van tell you while sharing their first impressions of this 1988 “classic”.

But what snacks to snack to Jack’s Back? Are they top of the pack? Or are they whack?

First, the hosts will enjoy some Monterey Jack cheese on a Ritz, the most James Spader of crackers.

Next is a beverage found online called Jack the Ripper. Break out the Jack Daniels and add orange juice and cinnamon to taste.

They also create a tribute drink called the Smokin’ Picardo. Here’s how to make it:

• Take a chilled tumbler.
• Add two ounces of Sheridan’s Original Irish liquor – a mix of dark, rich coffee liqueur with a hint of chocolate and a smooth vanilla cream liqueur.
• Add two cherries on a plastic sword.
• Top with a shoe horn.

It’s a drink the producer’s wife tasted and then described as, “Oh my God! Gah! It’s like a melted Wendy’s Frosty that’s been spiked. A very warm and nice aftertaste.”

So Dave has invited his movie-mad friend Sean Condon to drop by and discuss movies, movies, movies.

Dave has a theory about the wonderful Elaine May’s career as a film director. Could she have made more films? What got in the way of her productivity? Dave compares her career to a fellow New York-based comic, Woody Allen, who flourished through the 70’s and became a better and better filmmaker.

Sean brings in some movie memes – or, as Dave insists on calling them: mémés – as a modern example of the sort of pithy reviews that once filled film guides. Both of them mourn the loss of fabulous film grump: Leslie Halliwell.

Finally, Sean digs out his list of the L.A. Times Top 101 Top L.A. Movies They go through the list with some interest and discuss the Top 15 films, which aren’t just excellent films about L.A., but are some of the best films ever made.

This week Mary and Dave celebrate the return of Sam Raimi to being…er…Sam Raimi with the very enjoyable Send Help!

They discuss Raimi’s filmography, explore his distinctive directing style as well as his visceral film language, and contrast his career to that of the Coen Brothers.

They praise the ridiculously talented Rachel McAdams and also stan Teen Wolf alumni Dylan O’Brien, who is also outstanding in the film.

The film has something interesting to say about masculine and feminine power dynamics. and also enjoys covering people in bodily fluids.

An Interview with Virginia Slachman

Hello, horse fans and hello, mystery fans, and hello, horse mystery fans! Welcome to Season Six of your favourite horse-based true crime podcast!

We have a treat for all you lovers of horse mysteries as Lezah and Dave have an enjoyable conversation with Virginia Slachman, a college professor, horse lover, and a creator of horse mysteries. Yes, Virginia has written four mystery novels centred around the world of horse racing: three in the Harper Hill series – Blood in the Bluegrass, Beast in the Bluegrass, and Betrayed in the Bluegrass – with a fourth on the way, and a stand alone book The Lost Ode.

What do you call a movie with all your favourite cartoon characters being killed? The Transformers: The Movie from 1986. It’s time for Refresh My memory: The Podcast to hear Vicky Van, Jason Dedrick and Eric Fell’s recollections. Does the film have the touch? Does it have the power? Or is it less than meets the eye?

In honour of Leonard Nimoy’s voice role as Galvatron, the gang enjoys his famous Potatoes La Jolla Chez Jay with a surprise hint of banana.

They also enjoy an Optimus Prime Punch by pouring blue sports drink over cranberry cocktail and then topping it with lemon-lime soda.

They also create a tribute drink called the Seizure Warning. Here’s how to make it:

• Mix together 1/2 apple cider with 1/2 Champagne
• Add 1 oz. of Goldschlager

The producer’s wife said it was like mouthwash and soda, and she felt sorry for the miners who had to dig for the wasted gold.

The year is 1985: Martin Scorsese hasn’t made Marvel fans upset yet and directs the neo-noir cult classic After Hours. But what do our late night-loving commentators, Vicky Van, Jason Dedrick and Eric Fell remember about this journey into SoHo? Do they say, “On no”?

In keeping with the after hours theme, they’ll be snacking on donuts from a local 24 hour cafe.

They also create a tribute drink called the Surrender Dorothy. Here’s how to make it:
