Walking is not as jarring as jogging or other activities and you can go at your own pace, whatever your fitness level.  Many have found that it&#039;s a great way to lose weight and keep it off.<span id="more-1718"></span></p>
<p>But sometimes walking for weight loss loses some of its effectiveness, especially over time.  You may have noticed that your weight loss has slowed and that you&#039;ve hit a plateau, or that you&#039;re just not losing as much as you&#039;d like.  How then can you make your routine more effective so the weight continues to come off?</p>
<p><strong>Walk More</strong></p>
<p>One thing you can do is to prolong your routine.  This means walking more each time you&#039;re out, or increasing it week by week.  So if you currently walk for 30 minutes, next week it will be 45.  Try this for a month and then increase it by another 10 or 15 minutes.</p>
<p><strong>Increase Intensity</strong></p>
<p>Increasing the intensity is also good.  Pick up the pace; add in some quick jogging, even if it&#039;s for just a minute here and there.  Try sprinting for at least 30 seconds or until you get winded.  If you add in these things, your effectiveness will increase.</p>
<p><strong>Mix it Up</strong></p>
<p>Another good way to improve your walking for weight loss is to use different pieces of equipment and other routines at the same time.  Try:</p>

<li>using your bike or an exercise bike</li>
<p>This will mix things up and challenge your body for more results.</p>

If you&#039;re currently not losing the weight you want, that is probably a sign that you&#039;re not challenging your body enough.  Increase your routine or the intensity of your routine for the results you want.</p>
<p><strong>Challenge Yourself for Results!</strong></p>
<p>Only by challenging yourself during your walks will you see that walking for weight loss is as effective as you want it to be.  If you are just strolling along without really getting your heart rate increased or your breathing labored, you&#039;re probably not burning calories.  It&#039;s important to take your walks to the next level in order to continue with real results.</p>
<p>And increasing the lengths of your walks as well as intensity helps.  Using other equipment and following other routines will use different muscles of the body and increase muscle tone.  This means more calories being burned every minute.</p>
<p>You can find the results you&#039;re looking for when you use walking for weight loss but only if you do it properly.  By challenging yourself you&#039;ll then eventually see the results!</ul>

After all, you usually put a lot of effort into taking off those unwanted pounds and that effort should pay off as quickly as possible.<span id="more-1715"></span></p>
<p>There is typically nothing wrong with quick weight loss; if you can lose a few pounds every week, that&#039;s usually a good thing and most programs will tell you that you can lose one or two pounds per week.  As long as you&#039;re eating in a healthy way and exercising in a safe way, there is usually nothing wrong with that.</p>
<p>But there are some things you should consider when it comes to quick weight loss and why in some cases it can be dangerous.  Depending upon how you achieve this rapid loss of weight, you could be damaging your body and your health.  How so?  How can it hurt you if you lose weight very quickly?</p>
<p><strong>Fad Diets, Crash Diets</strong></p>
<p>For one thing, many fad diets and crash diets say that you can have quick weight loss if you follow their diet.  This may be true; you might lose several pounds every single week on a diet like this.  But you may also lose many important elements in your system as well.  These elements can be damaging if you lose too much.</p>
<p>For example, if you lose hydration due to losing water weight, your systems can suffer.  The body needs adequate hydration at all times in order to be healthy.  It&#039;s used by the digestive system, the muscles, the organs, and all the cells in order to function properly.</p>

<p>So there is nothing wrong with quick weight loss if you do it safely and mind your health along the way.  You can watch what you eat and cut out sugary foods and things like this, and exercise moderately as you go.  This will mean that you will shed body fat as fast as possible while still remaining healthy.</p>

Every person&#039;s situation is different and everyone&#039;s health concerns are different as well.  What a doctor tells you in person is always going to be more accurate than what anyone else tells you.</p>
<p><strong>Weight and Your Health Overall</strong></p>
<p>But there are some general guidelines you can follow when you think about health and weight loss overall.  For one thing, excess body weight does put quite a bit of stress and strain on your joints, your back, and other areas.  The knees and back especially need to move around the weight of the body and when you&#039;re overweight, they work overtime to do this.</p>

<p>You may be thinking that you need to pay to see your doctor but many weight loss programs today are covered by insurance plans.  Most insurance carriers know that excess weight is dangerous to one&#039;s health and leads to many complications down the road.  This means they&#039;re more willing to pay for prevention or for a weight loss program.</p>
<p>Your doctor can provide free weight loss advice and help by talking to you about what you need to do personally to lose weight.  They may be able to recommend a diet program or way of eating that would work well for you.  For instance, if you&#039;re prone to blood sugar problems they may recommend something that cuts out sugar and carbs.</p>

This might be a particular diet or may be a certain program that is offered commercially.  The cost of these things may be covered by your insurance company.</p>

If you go walking or bike riding you may notice that you don&#039;t lose a lot of weight, or that you easily hit a weight loss plateau.  Why is this?  What is the key to finding effective exercise techniques to really shed pounds?</p>
<p><strong>Challenge Yourself!</strong></p>
<p>The get the most from your exercise so that you&#039;re losing weight, you need to challenge yourself when you work out.
