ITALIAN MASK

2011-07-08T00:12:00.000-07:00

So, another black canvas (actually this one is on a new thing I've been using - wood surface "canvas") and I'm thinking "what should I paint?" So, all through the internet and then I thought "why not look at some pics of your followers/readers". I did and found something I guess I'll call "The Italian Mask" because it reminds me of masks I saw in Venice. Hope you like...

TOUCHED UP THE IAN AND I PAINT....

2011-07-06T20:06:00.000-07:00

The pictures don't do this one justice. It's really much better than the previous version. As soon as it dries it's going out to my hommie - Ian. Love you Brother.

MY HUMPS AND BUMPS

2011-06-27T06:42:00.000-07:00

I have been working on a painting but, it's going slow..... oil is drying like molasses and I'm trying to paint in different time steps. In the mean time please enjoy the riff-raff I post as "the paint dries".

In the mean time..... Picked my wife up from O'Hare yesterday around 11am, we were about 1 mile from the airport and heard a massive explosion. I swear it sounded like a sky-burst firework went off just outside of our car. Cars started to pull over. Me on the other hand, I took off like a bandit. I've been in trucks hit with IED's in Iraq. That kinda fucked me up for the day. Anyway, there was no mention of it on the news, goog, etc. Anyone know what the f-that was?

In the other mean time.... have a laugh....

My Humps...

Can't help but get down to this....

DEVIL TREE

2011-06-22T20:15:00.000-07:00

So, at first I had this nice grey sky, then this tree that came out kinda nice. Then something happened and I made this errant black mark and was like "fuck it put the devil in there"....

IAN AND I

2011-06-22T20:11:00.000-07:00

this is my take on the picture of Ian and I. I was a little too much into my head on this one wanting to make it "perfect" and falling short. Hope you enjoy...

after looking at it again, what I might do is add some high-light colors on the ground.

BERNHOFT - go ahead get on down to this...

THE PIC THAT STARTED THE PAINTING....

2011-06-21T22:04:00.000-07:00

So, I've been working on another painting today. This one is really special. It's a pic of myself and my closest friend during training. We're on the crest of a ridge overlooking a training "village". He just saw the blog and is amazed that I've decided to put the paintings out there. I wish I wouldn't have thrown so many of them away. I would paint then either throw them out or paint over them. Anyway, I'm working on it Ian and will get it to you soon my brother. In the mean time I'll take pics of the progress.

DON'T HIDE BEHIND THAT ROCK.....come on out....

2011-06-20T17:01:00.000-07:00

I'm going to go out on a limb and start selling the paintings. If you are interested please let me know and name your price (but keep it fair). I have no idea how to price them and am a terrible business person so, if you're interested, let me know and we'll go from there. If you have any ideas for me on how to do this..... fill me in. Thanks to you all for checking out the site and I'm working on more.

SOMETHING WICKED.............

2011-06-16T20:51:00.000-07:00

I started this one after looking at an andy warhol picture of the same color scheme. As soon as the paint hit the canvas this is what happened. It's not andy and I'm really pretty glad after watching that f-stick eat a hamburger on youtube

BIRD.........................

2011-06-16T20:41:00.000-07:00

This one started out as a purple sky one. I seem to be stuck on the purple sky thing. For some reason it resonates with me. Anyway, from landscape to....

....not really sure what this thing is but, it felt right so, I went with it.

Please comment!

LATER THAT DAY...................................

Had a go with this one. This one started out like all the other - no direction whatsoever. This is what came out.

CAFE TERRACE............ sniper style..............

2011-06-16T10:24:00.000-07:00

How'd I get into painting? I worked as an exterminator, yes bug killer, and one of my stops was this retirement home/nursing home for the well off. Anyway, there was a lady who's apartment I tended to who was always painting. Her name was Alice and she was at least 80+ years old. Not sure if she's alive now and don't know her last name. Anyway, she would always give me a tip or lesson. I painted a picture for her but, have lost it and wish I would have given it to her as I'm sure she's now since passed. It was over ten years ago.

Day One

2011-06-16T10:19:00.000-07:00

So this was the first one I did. I took Van G's Cafe Terrace and tried to copy it with my own "flavor" just to see how close I could get. I painted this in LA, sitting at the kitchen table. The easel you see it on now was a wonderful gift from lady who lived in the condo's above the hotel I worked at in Chicago.
