May 2020, and SihanoukVille is still  here! in 2006, SihanoukVille was still here as well.   The town (city) is empty now, due to Coronavirus, the ban on On-line gambling, and road construction.   We hope it will be full, soon.     The city's change a bit since the old days (2017)   It's all a construction zone now, with skyscrapers all over town.

THE year of the casinos continues..... Last year, SihanoukVille gained about 20 new  casinos in town, and in 2018 already, we have about another 10 new ones. The town is filled with construction of hi-rises, low-rises, apartments, houses, shops, offices, swimming pools, casinos, hotels, markets, and lots of Chinese restaurants! 2016 has just started in SihanoukVille, Cambodia.   The Southern Coast of Cambodia including SihanoukVille, Kampot, Kep, and Koh Kong are all booming. Summer is here, and so are the seasonal rains.  Despite the rain, SihanoukVille's seen a huge increase in tourists.  While the town is doing quite well, SihanoukVille's Island are doing much better.  Koh Rong Island and it's little sister Koh Rong Samloem are now just a 40 minute ride from the mainland beach (and will be 20 minutes away quite soon). Summer 2012 in SihanoukVille has been a hot one.  Great beach days with ocassional light rains.  Khmer New Year in April was a blast, with the town filling up for 2 weeks of beachside fun. We love the rain here in SihanoukVille.  Especially when it's sunny and warm everyday (and no rain). The last 2 weeks here have seen perfect days, everyday.  It was a great time to have the Pacific Partnership 2012 and USNS Mercy to arrive in town for 2 weeks. 2012 started out with a BANG.  The first Cambodia Sea Festival was held at Ocheteaul Beach, and an extra 30,000 people came for the celebration.  The government set up tents with mats on the floor, to handle the extra crowd. Jet Ski races, boxing, horse racing, international food festival, concerts and dancing, and lots of free beer!  The weather was great, the beach was packed.

Winter is over in SihanoukVille, but the party still seems to be on! Winter (November to February) was cool, but cloudier than ever. Ocheteaul and Serendipity Beaches and the Islands were quite busy this year, as was downtown and Victory Hill. SihanoukVille's seen a lot of action this summer. Lots of tourist from Europe, Australia and North America (not so many Mexicans) came to enjoy the rain, and surprisingly a lot of sun.  Also, several (more than a few) cruise ships docked for daily excursions. This week, after the USS Tortuga left the SihanoukVille Port, The American USNS Mercy and Japanese JDS Kunisaki ships arrived to participate in the Pacific Partnership 2010 mission.  Last week, the Tortuga participated in a 9 day shipboard training session with the Cambodian Navy and many training session ashore, as well as a full schedule of community service projects throughout Cambodia.

New Year's Eve 2009 in SihanoukVille, Cambodia on the beach was great!. About 12,000 people filled the beaches and islands of SihanoukVille for an all night party.
