Breathtaking Pictures Of A Couple Who Got Married On Mount Everest

They say that love can move mountains, but a California couple just proved that it could also climb them. Ashley Schmeider and James Sisson thought that a run-of-the-mill wedding ceremony wasn’t enough for them – so they chose to get married on Mount Everest instead. As you could probably think, their wedding photos are breathtaking.

32-year-old Ashley and 35-year-old James spent one entire year planning and training for their expedition. It was no walk in the park when they finally arrived in Nepal in the beginning of March. Accompanied by their photographer, Charleton Churchill, they were trekking for 3 weeks until the finally approached the 17,000-foot-high Base Camp Everest. There, they finally said their vows to each other after braving deep snow, freezing temperature, and altitude sickness together. Churchill’s pictures of the extraordinary ceremony present an astounding mix of rich blue, crisp white, and rugged stone.

Nevertheless, on extremely rare times when cold air is trapped in the canyon and blanketed by a layer of warm air; this, combined with moisture and condensation, creates a phenomenon also known as the “full cloud inversion.”

In what looks like something between ocean waves and fast-moving clouds, the Grand Canyon is entirely obscured by fog. This spectacular phenomenon makes visitors feel like they are walking on clouds. Below you can see the beauty of nature in all its glory.

Romantic Boyfriend Proposes Under The Northern Lights... The Pictures Are Amazing!

You couldn’t imagine of a proposal that is more jaw-dropping than this one.

On March 6, Dale Sharpe asked Karlie Russell, his girlfriend of seven years, to marry him. They were exactly under the Aurora Borealis sky in the Lofoten Islands of Norway.

The partners are both landscape photographers for DK Photography that's based in Australia’s Gold Coast. Together they have seen and photographed the Northern Lights more than 30 times.

Dale told Daily Mail Australia: “It was the most wonderful display of color in the Aurora that we’ve ever seen.”

To schedule the proposal moment, Dale asked Karlie to take a selfie with him. At first, she resisted, saying that they should find a different spot to capture the idea landscape shot instead. When she finally agreed, Dale got down on one knee.

Karlie told The Huffington Post: “I was totally blown away as it was the very last thing I was expecting at that time. I was telling Dale to hurry up so we could get a better shot instead. When he got down on one knee, I was surprised but of course said, ‘yes!’”

Dale had normally planned to ask that question nine months earlier on a journey to Iceland. He had put the engagement ring in a bottle, which he told Karlie was priceless and belonged to his mom. However, at the airport, their luggage was overweight, and Karlie decided to throw out the bottle with the $4,000 ring inside. When finally Dale realized what had happened he was devastated and had to save up to buy a new ring.

“I politely told her, ‘That’s OK,’ while internally screaming. I didn't want to ruin my proposal plan", Dale told HuffPost.

The partners found each other online while living on opposite sides of Australia. When they first met in person, they took a sunset picture together on the Gold Coast.

After seven years, they are happily engaged but with no wedding plans in the near future.

As Dale said: “Having to buy two engagement rings means the savings is a little behind!”.

This Enormous Iceberg Is 50ft Larger Than The One The Titanic Crashed Into

Countless tourists have visited Ferryland, a tiny fishing village on Canada’s East Coast, after a 150ft tall iceberg became visible near its shores a month ago.

It seems that villagers have to get used to the enormous berg that has parked near Ferryland, an isolated community in Newfoundland popular for “Iceberg Alley,” a stretch of its coastal waters that are frequented by Arctic visitors. The iceberg is almost 150 feet tall which makes it even larger than the one Titanic crashed into in 1912.

Even though tourists won't find Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in Ferryland, they still think that the place is worth a visit since the enormous iceberg is breathtaking. Pictures of it are already viral on social media.

This could lead to a great business opportunity for Ferryland, even though its residents said that the village has only two restaurants which won't open until the 24th of May.

Christian Åslund, a Swedish photojournalist who works with Greenpeace, took several early photos of glaciers in Svalbard, Norway from the Norwegian Polar Institute, and compared them with his previous photos of the same locations from 2002.

I Walked On Frozen Baikal, The Deepest And Oldest Lake On Earth To Capture Its Otherworldly Beauty

Baikal is impressive. It's the deepest and the cleanest lake on Earth. When we were planning a trip, we didn't even suspect it is so wonderful, majestic and fairy. We were raptured over its beauty so much, that we almost didn't sleep all 3 days we were here.

Lake Baikal is about 600km in length. The thickness of it reaches 1,5-2 meters. This ice can tolerate the vehicle of about 15 tonnes, but sometimes we saw cars that had been fallen down. Ice has different patterns in different parts of the lake. It happens because water is freezing layer by layer. Especially it is very interesting to find a fish or a branch in the ice. The ice in Baikal is the most transparent in the world! And this is true. You can see everything till the bottom: fish, green stones, plants and bluish gulf. The water in the lake is so clear, that you can see various objects on the depth of 40 meters.

Baikal is also the deepest lake. The genesis and the age still provoke scientific arguments, so let's just remember, that Baikal is the biggest reservoir of fresh water on Earth, and its depth is 1642 meters. Apart from Baikal, there are only two lakes that are deeper than 1000 meters: lake Tanganyika (1470 m) and Caspian Sea (1025 m).

In some parts ice is slippery like the mirror. You can shoot ideal reflections. A lot of travelers are moving about on skates, bicycles or sledge. Some of them are walking for several hundreds of kilometers and are sleeping in the tents on ice. Marvelous place. Very atmospheric.

Ice is cracking all the time. When the frost is very heavy, cracks divide ice on different areas. The length of these cracks is 10-30 km, and the width is 2-3 m. Cracks happen every year, approximately at the same areas of the lake. The are followed by a loud crack that reminds of thunder or gun shot. Thanks to the cracks, the fish in the lake don't die from the lack of oxygen. Generally, ice of Baikal carries a lot of enigmas, the majority of formations provokes the interest of scientists.

Ice on Baikal is there till May. But in April no one drives on it. The bubbles in the ice are developed from the gas methane that is produced by algae. The only river in the world that flows from the lake is Angara that flows from Baikal. All other rivers flow into the lakes.

There is a legend that the Father of Baikal had 336 rivers - sons - and one daughter - Angara. All sons were flowing into Baikal to restock the water, but the daughter fell in love with Yenisei (one more river in Russia) and started to take everything from father's water to her lover. In respond, the father Baikal threw a huge rock into his daughter and cursed her. This rock is called Shaman-Stone, and it is situated in the springhead of Angara and is considered to be it's beginning. Baikal is the most beautiful place in the world.

Hiker Lost in Swiss Alps is Guided Back to Town by This Adorable Cat

Hiking in the mountains by yourself can get dangerous, especially if you become injured and aren’t entirely familiar with the area around you. I once got lost in the desert canyons of New Mexico, and I can tell you, I wish I had a furry friend show up to guide me home.

Which is exactly what one Hungarian hiker claims happened to him as he was making his way through the Swiss Alps. After spraining his ankle, he quickly lost track of where he was (something that happens when you panic or become injured).

The route he had intended to hike, which was in the mountains outside of Gimmelwald, Switzerland, was blocked, and he wasn’t sure what to do next.

It wasn’t long after he sustained his ankle injury that a black and white cat seemingly appeared out of nowhere and started meowing at him. So, he followed the cat, only to find out that it was leading him to safety.

“[The cat] was just wandering around, [then] found me while I was resting from a hike,” he said. “Then she was walking and kept looking at me to follow [and] led me straight to the path that would take me back down to the valley.

Located in Bernese Oberland is the small village of Gimmelwald, and it rests just outside of the Junfrau-Aletsch Unesco World Heritage Site.

“Gimmelwald is a tiny, tiny stunningly beautiful village [and] I actually got ‘lost’ in the surrounding mountains,” said the hiker. “It was the end of ski season when I got to [the village of] Lauterbrunnen, so the lifts weren't working and some of the trails were closed.”

After the Hungarian hiker posted his experience to Reddit, many other people from around the area quickly wrote to tell the man that they’d seen the cat in their travels as well. Later in the conversation, it was discovered that the cat actually belongs to a couple who owns a hostel in the area.

Breath-Taking Pictures Of Snow In Sahara For The First Time In 37 Years

It's highly unusual to see snow in Sahara. As a matter of fact, it hadn't snowed for 37 years. However, on December 19th, snow fell in Algerian town of Ain Sefra. Amateur photographer Karim Bouchetata was there to take magnificent photos with his camera.

“Everyone was stunned to see snow falling in the dessert,” he said. “It is such a rare occurrence. It looked amazing as the snow settled on the sand and made a great set of photos. The snow stayed for about a day and has now melted away.”

This is only the second time in living memory that snow has fallen on the Sahara. The first time was in February 1979, also in Algeria.

Family Thrives In The Arctic Circle By Building Cob House Inside A Solar Geodesic Dome

This geodesic dome home was made from recycled building materials, is outfitted with solar panel technology, and enables its hosts to grow food year-round.

Few people can handle the frigid temperatures of winter, let alone contemplate what it must be like to live in the Arctic Circle. However, one Norwegian family has managed to not only survive, but thrive, up North, and has done so in sustainable fashion.

Inhabitat reports that the Hjertefølger family has been living on Sandhornøya island in Norway since 2013, and has done so by living in a three-story cob home called the Nature House. Constructed from sand, water, clay, and other organic materials, the structure took just three weeks to build and is surrounded by a functional and solar geodesic dome.

The SOLARDOME encasement is 25-foot high and completely encapsulates the five-bedroom, two bathroom abode. This building protects the six-person family from strong winds and heavy snow loads. Additionally, it helps to drastically reduce the heating bill.

Because the geodesic dome extends past the cob home, there is room for a garden area which supplies the family with apples, cherries, plums, apricots, kiwis, grapes, cucumbers, tomatoes, herbs, squash and melons – basically, much of their food supply. The family is able to subsist sustainably despite living without sunlight for three months every year.

Nature House
As the pictures convey, the interior is both cozy and inviting. The home is also made more aesthetically pleasing due to the Northern Lights and astounding visuals of nature. Commented Ingrid Hjertefølger:

“We love the house; it has a soul of its own and it feels very personal. What surprises us is the fact that we built ourselves anew as we built the house. The process changed us, shaped us.”

It’s been three years since the Hjertefølger family moved to the Arctic Circle, and they have no intention of leaving the sanctuary that’s been built.

“The feeling we get as we walk into this house is something different from walking in to any other house,” Hjertefølger shares. “The atmosphere is unique. The house has a calmness; I can almost hear the stillness. It is hard to explain. But it would have been impossible getting this feeling from a house someone else has planned and built for us, or a house with corners and straight lines.”

Nature House
In the future, the Hjertefolgers intend to hold classes, tours, workshops and concerts at the Nature House. Natural cabins will also be built someday to host yoga retreats and family summer camps.

Russian Photographer Captures The Cutest Squirrel Photo Session Ever

Talented Russian nature photographer Vadim Trunov has had close encounters with squirrels before, but this is the first time we’ve seen his photos of squirrels playing or shooting photos of each other! The photographer recently published some photos he’s captured of squirrels that seem to be building snowmen or playing volleyball with nuts.

The truth is a bit different, however – it’s winter, these squirrels are hungry, and they want food! In fact, the ones with the pine cone and the nut are fighting over the winter food, which Trunov left in a clearing so he could photograph the squirrels.

Breathtaking Photoshot Of Enormous Iceberg Reveals Its Beautiful Symmetry

Canadian photographer David Burdeny took an incredible photo of an iceberg, in the context of his project "NORTH/SOUTH". It was taken with Phase One equipment in the Weddel sea, Antarctica. Burdeny named the image “Mercators Projection”, which reveals its fantastic symmetry. It actually looks like it divides the world in four quarters, all in a beautiful shade of blue.

These kinds of pictures can actually prove the miracle of nature and remind us only some of the reasons why we should respect the earth we live in.

Explorers found a mysterious box in an Antarctica ice block. What they found inside is just incredible!

Τhe discovery we are talking about today is something that doesn’t happen everyday.

A team of conservator of the New Zealand Antarctic Heritage Trust found a mysterious box frozen in an ice block while restoring one of the exploration huts in Antarctica. Imagine their astonishment when they discovered that inside the box there were 22 never-before-seen negatives of pictures shot 100 years ago by a photographer part of explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton’s group.

These negatives have been hidden in a block of ice for a decade and obviously were not in the best conditions possible when discovered, but a Wellington photography conservator managed to restore them going through a very complex and risky process.

Is believed that these negatives were probably left in Captain Scott’s hut by Shackleton’s Ross Sea Party during an expedition that ended with the loss of three crew members when their ship blew out to sea during a blizzard.

Now enjoy these photos, which brought to us the heroic deeds of the brave explorers who used to sail the seas in the early 1900s.

For legendary French skier Candide Thovex, "breaking the Internet" isn't really a big deal. After all, the epic and extreme athlete has uploaded tons of videos of his antics, many of them going viral.

That being said, this might be his best yet.

The video below is shot from Thovex's perspective, and shows him jumping, spinning, and doing otherwise mind-blowing things on a pair of skis. Watching this video is a thrill in-and-of-itself -- and we can't imagine the rush Thovex must have gotten when he did it.

Simon Beck creates art, but it's unlike any art we've seen before. Wearing snowshoes, Beck makes ornate snow murals that look absolutely stunning once viewed from above.

His process is elaborate and incredibly detailed, and requires hours of painstaking work in the snow. In fact, Beck estimates that he makes about 5,000 steps per hour, for a total of 40,000 steps for his biggest projects.

Once he's finished, the snow murals are massive works of art that use the snow as a canvas -- in fact, Beck might be the only person in the world creating something like this. See a stunning video of his work-in-progress below.

A group of skiers had quite the scare as they skied down a mountain in Gulmarg, in the northern state of Jammy and Kashmir. Owen Lansbury from Australia filmed the surprising and tense encounter with a snow leopard.

American tour guide, Dave Marchi almost ran over the animal who was camouflaged by the snow. In the video, you can hear a woman telling Lansbury to stop skiing. The peaceful stand-off didn’t last long. “I stopped just as it huddled in the snow, where it stayed for about a minute checking us out,” says the 42-year-old.

Snow leopards live in the mountains in Central Asia, found in altitudes from 9,000 to 16,000 feet. The large cat is an endangered species due to poaching, loss of habitat, and climate change. It is estimated there are only about 6,000 snow leopards left in the world. The king of the mountain left the group alone but not before letting out a “solid roar.”

There are some parts of the world that are so magical and surreal, it feels they came from a storybook page. Inari in Lapland, Finland is that rare and breathtaking location where the sun shines 24 hours a day in the summer and is in complete darkness in the winter months. The dark nights allow for the Aurora Borealis to display a spectacular light show.

The northern lights are the result of collisions of gaseous particles in the earth’s atmosphere with the charged particles from the sun. The waves of light vary in color from green, purple, and reds. The Aurora Borealis is visible in Lapland about 200 nights a year, usually from late August to April.

This time-lapse video was shot in Inari, a small village located only 300 kilometers form the Arctic Circle. Unlike the rest of Lapland, Inari boasts getting to see this wonder practically every night.
