Versus is a kinetic sound installation by David Letellier. Its functioning is characterized by an interactive dialogic mechanism. There are two kinetic sculptures that are interdependent and they have to be face to face to make sense.Each sculpture is made out of 12 triangular panels, joining at the center in a flower-like shape with actuators to allow slow movement. In the center of this singular "corolla" there's a microphone and a speaker. At fixed timing each sculpture "dialogues" with the other one producing a sound which is recorded and whose frequencies are analyzed by the opposite sculpture. The sculptures then move accordingly, with a pulsating conceptual attitude, before playing back a modified sound. In fact, the original sound emitted by the first kinetic flower is modified by sounds and presence of the visitors and by the reverberations of the room. By their presence these external agents become active actors in the installation, making the continuous loop always unpredictable. An alien communication is established, but one grounded in the obscure grammar coded by the artist. The spectators are the "noise" in this communication, but are also the agents of variation and evolution of the dialogue. It's a classic ecosystem for the transmission of sense, and the kinetic movements are not only functional (changing the shape changes the emission of sounds as well), but they are also shown to be alive and reactive, which in a communication environment is simply essential.

The mashup master Mark Gunderson, aka The Evolution Control Committee, has been in the music plagiarism field for the last couple of decades. One of his latest tactical products (after so many others) is called VidiMasher 3000. It's a 122-centimeter rear-projected faux touchscreen, which shows the overloaded Ableton Live software setup of loops Gunderson uses during his live, plagiaristic shows.

The VidiMasher 3000. Based off of Johnny Chung Lee's whiteboard, we assembled a four-foot rear-projected faux touchscreen. It's perfect for our Wheel Of Mashup shows, which depend on an overloaded setup of Ableton Live. Because it's overloaded, it's very difficult to mouse quickly and accurately enough to mash things up on the fly. The touchscreen solves that.

Disc.o is a plastic representation of the unit length of repetitive contemporary music: the Loop. The author, Andreas Haider (aka muk), is explicitly referencing the SuperPiano of Emerick Spielmann, invented in 1929 as the first photoelectric sound synthesizer. The installation consists of two parallel circular planes positioned at head height and connected to the ceiling. The lower disc consists of 8 CD players, which correspond to as many mirrored LEDs mounted on the second disc, which is smaller, concentric to the first and supported by thin columns. Reflected by the underlying paths and scratched cds, the light of the LEDs is converted into sound by the photodiodes and amplified by eight speakers positioned on the ceiling around users. The sounds of each cd player generated by the photodiodes along with lights and circular shapes are repeated constantly and redundantly, becoming a consistent translation of the concepts of repetition and obsession. The round shape of the installation and the small columns supporting the smaller circle give the structure a sense of an ancient "monoptero" temple, a particular sacred circular building that was erected in ancient Greece for only the most important deities. Perhaps unintentionally, this reference covers the work with a mystique air, with repetition (from rosaries to the ohm) being practiced to alter mental states, just as with music. An illumination installation of seemingly floating lights that create a fantastic afterimage, this work centers around an organically spiral-shaped rail construction on which a number of balls with built-in LEDs are rolling while blinking in different time intervals, resulting in spatial drawings of light particles in all kinds of shapes. The illumination's three-dimensional design, achieved through a fusion of the rail construct's characteristic features and communication control technology, takes on various appearances depending on the viewer's position. Look forward to an exciting new work that combines generally entertaining ideas and sophisticated information technology in everything from LED devices and other hardware to programming.

Research and recent innovations have led to an amazing increase of types and uses of visual displays and screens; indeed, in our predominantly visual culture, they are everywhere. A typical person carries at least one device with a screen, is presented with them in public places, uses them at work and in many leisure activities. They are so ingrained in our everyday acts and habits that we don’t even notice them anymore.

L.S.D invites its users to engage in a new perception of their daily environment.

L.S.D feeds on light via two LDR (light depending resistor) mounted on a suction cup, allowing the sensors to be mounted on any screen surface. An analogue synthesizer converts the light input to sound waves. This device can be used in many different configurations and feeds from any light sources. Even if L.S.D can be controlled by any light source, its design is aimed at screen reading/listening.

Originariamente era stato classificato come uno schizoide idrocefalo, ma quando aveva raggiunto l'età di 28 anni i rilevatori psichici avevano identificato il talento della visione, sepolto sotto i tessuti del suo cervello malato. Link is an interactive installation where people can record their stories into a cityscape of cardboard boxes. Participants approach the kiosk to record a video of themselves which is stored and replayed through the sculpture.

Link was created for Design Korea 2010 as an interpretation of 'Convergence', the theme of the exhibition. We present a convergence of complex, fast moving technologies from communication and visual computing with low, everyday materials. Furthermore, the audience is requested to cross the boundary of roles within the exhibition by themselves being presented as the exhibition. By existing in the same space as the exhibition, the audience can understand that their existence within the design community can be flexible and cross-disciplinary.

As an insider recently told me, one of several ways Comcast is considering tackling excessive consumption (aside from throttling "hogs" and 250GB caps) is to boot users who get more than four DMCA warning letters in a twelve-month period. Comcast might want to reconsider.

While booting pirates is one way to ease congestion, the process currently used to identify and warn them has been shown to be seriously flawed. The companies the entertainment industry uses aren't really accountable to anybody, and they methods they use are suspect.

To drive that point home, researchers this week at the University of Washington released a study that shows that the current DMCA-warning model is not only flawed, but it can be abused to frame other people, or their printers.

By profiling copyright enforcement in the popular BitTorrent file sharing system, we were able to generate hundreds of real DMCA takedown notices for computers at the University of Washington that never downloaded nor shared any content whatsoever. Further, we were able to remotely generate complaints for nonsense devices including several printers and a (non-NAT) wireless access point. Our results demonstrate several simple techniques that a malicious user could use to frame arbitrary network endpoints.
