Number of Americans using antidepressants doubles

Antidepressant use has shot up dramatically over the last decade or so, including among children, while visits to psychiatrists have continued to fall, according to a new study. As of 2005, the most recent year for which data was available, about 27 million people, or 10 percent of Americans, were taking antidepressants. That’s twice the number who were taking such drugs in 1996, according to the study published in the Archives of General Psychiatry, which looked at about 50,000 children and adults. India launches nuclear submarine

India has launched its first indigenously built nuclear-powered submarine capable of firing ballistic missiles. The submarine, once in service, will give the country the capability to fire nuclear weapons from sea besides land and air. India plans to build a fleet of five nuclear-powered submarines. American scientists found out that sunflower seeds have very high phytosterol content (about 270-290 mg in 100 g). Phytosterols are chemical compounds of natural origin, which have unique properties to control the levels of cholesterol. Phytosterols are plant components that have a chemical structure similar to cholesterol except for the addition of an extra methyl or ethyl group. Security firm Sophos, in their latest Security Threat Report, says that recent trends all point to the same thing; criminals are targeting social networking sites. As social portals like Twitter, Facebook , MySpace, and LinkedIn have grown in popularity, so have the attacks on their users. Apple drops to No. 5 in laptop sales

According to research firm IDC, Apple has dropped from the No. 4 purveyor of laptops in the U.S. last year to No. 5 this spring. The firm estimates that Apple has shipped 12.5 percent fewer laptops than the same time last year, even as it maintained its 7.6 percent market share.
