Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. I am amazed at the current U.S. debate over Syria. Those urging intervention may be driven by humanitarian good intentions, to end the fighting and ease suffering. But whatever they are proposing–no-fly zones, safe havens, direct supply of weapons to rebels, etc—have they actually considered how four highly visible, recent precedents turned out?

Afghanistan:  There is no question but that after September 11, 2001, the United States had to invade Afghanistan, destroy the al-Qaida infrastructure there, and overthrow its Taliban partner. Yet today, twelve years later U.S. troops are still in Afghanistan! The delusion of rebuilding that country has predictably failed. About 2200 Americans have died, many of them killed by Afghan “allies.” The Afghan government is not exactly “grateful.” The Taliban is still strong. Again, that war was necessary but how worthwhile was it and how expensive and difficult has it been for the United States to extricate itself. Even after 4 and one-half years of Barack Obama U.S. soldiers are still there.

Mordechai Kedar—An Open Letter to the Arab League:

We in Israel received with great pleasure your agreement to normalize relations with Israel on condition that we agree to the establishment of a Palestinian state and exchanges of territories between that state and Israel. The Palestinian state that you propose to establish in Judea and Samaria would be the second Palestinian state, since the first Palestinian state was established six years ago in the Gaza Strip, and you clearly recognize it as such in practice. How else can the state visits of the Emir of Qatar and the secretary of the Arab League in Gaza  be understood?  Now you propose the establishment of a second Palestinian state? Perhaps a third!! Because Jordan is also a state with a Palestinian majority. And all of these states were established – as you know – on land that the League of Nations had designated for a Jewish state at the San Remo Conference, in April  of 1920. So why should we agree to exchange territories with any state or states that have been established or will be established on our land?

And if indeed a second Palestinian state will arise in Judea and Samaria (that which you call “the West Bank”) can you promise us that this state will not at some time in the future become another Hamas state? Do you not recall that Hamas won a clear majority of the seats in the Palestinian Legislative Council in January 2006? Did you not see how Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip with bombs, fire and kalashnikovs in June of 2007? Will you send a military force to get rid of Hamas after this terror organization also takes over – by means of elections or revolution – the new Palestinian state as well? Or perhaps you will leave us bleeding as a result of the problem that you have created?

Theodore Shoebat: Syria, Cannibalism and Videotape—A recent photograph has been released showing a Syrian rebel placing a human head on a barbecue, grilling his head. According to a report, the victim was a Syrian helicopter pilot who was journeying to bring food to army bases and villages around the Marraat Noman city in the Idleb province, until he was shot down, murdered and beheaded and his head cooked on a grill. Some say that this photo was fabricated by the Syrian government for the purpose of making propaganda against the rebels. There has been no evidence provided to prove that this is a fabrication. And also, why would this cruel barbarity be difficult to believe? It is absolutely not farfetched that the Free Syrian Army, or any other of the jihadist groups, would engage in this sort of vicious, sadistic and gruesome behavior.

Avi Issacharoff: Revealed: Netanyahu’s secret talks with the Palestinians—Israel and the Palestinian Authority tried to conduct backchannel negotiations, or at least initiate them, in late 2010 and early 2011 in a series of secret meetings between the prime minister’s envoy, attorney Yitzhak Molcho, and the head of PLO Executive Committee, Yasser Abed Rabbo. Abed Rabbo revealed these contacts in an interview with this correspondent here last week.

Although he declined to state a definite date, Kandil, in a wide-ranging interview published Monday by Hurriyet Daily News, said that Erdoğan “wants to come to Egypt and to go to Gaza. The Incredible Shrinking President

President Obama stood before a global audience yesterday and accused Republicans of playing politics with Benghazi, an issue that is threatening to bring down his administration:

President Obama today gave no ground on Benghazi, proclaiming “there’s no there there” to the GOP-led investigation of the administration’s response to the attack and calling the probes a “political circus.”

Obama, who spoke during a White House press conference with British Prime Minister David Cameron, asserted that he had said the attacks were terrorism the day after they occurred. But he also argued it wasn’t clear in the immediate aftermath exactly what had caused the attacks.

But Obama did not address his own repeated statements in the days after the attacks, even as evidence suggested otherwise, that the assault was the result of an anti-Islamic videotape. And he did not even attempt to address the matter he was specifically questioned on – why the “talking points” recited by UN Ambassador Susan Rice were edited from their original form and why there appeared to be more White House and State Department involvement in the editing than previously indicated.

“The whole issue of talking points throughout this process has been a sideshow,” Obama said, charging that Republicans were using the issue to raise money.

The president’s explanation flies in the face of testimony that was given last week by key witnesses who had firsthand knowledge of the incident:

The testimony was not kind to the Obama administration.

The hearing, called by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, was framed around the appearance and questioning of three State Department officials who were closely involved with the US response to the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012, but had not yet testified on it.

All three officials, called “whistleblowers” by several committee members, were critical of the Obama administration’s actions before, during, and after the assault on the temporary US mission in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi and on an annex operated by the CIA.

The officials, including the second-in-command to Ambassador Stevens at the time of the attack, were critical of a wide range of administration decisions: from the level and type of security for the Benghazi mission, to rejecting a number of military options for addressing the attack.

Gregory Hicks, the deputy chief of mission in Tripoli the night of the attack, criticized “stand down” orders out of the Pentagon: one not to send jets to overfly the attack site, another not to dispatch special forces from the embassy in Tripoli in the early morning hours the day after the attack.

It was Mr. Hicks who gave the committee and its audience – which included relatives of the four Americans killed in Benghazi – a riveting “tick tock” of events the night of the attack that included phone calls with Stevens. He said the last words he heard from his boss before the last call went dead were, “Greg, we’re under attack.”

Hicks said he sought to have jets overfly the Benghazi mission in a bid to frighten away the attackers and end the assault, but was told the nearest jets were at Aviano Air Base in Italy and would take hours to get in the air.

Americans died.  President Obama was in charge.  Hillary Clinton was his front person.  Susan Rice was their mouthpiece.  All of them saw the potential political damage associated with the Benghazi fiasco at a critical moment in the 2012 presidential election campaign, and they decided to play politics instead of doing their jobs.  If there is a political “side show” as the president said, he and his team are guilty of initiating it:

GOP outrage over a changed set of talking points related to September’s attack in Benghazi is a political “side show,” President Barack Obama argued Monday, asserting the tragedy was being used for political gain by his rivals.

The Republicans who claim Obama’s administration was intentionally misleading in the way they characterized the Benghazi attack are ignoring key facts and sullying the memory of the four Americans who died, the president claimed.

“We’ve got a whole bunch of people in the State Department who consistently say, ‘You know what, I’m willing to step up, I’m willing to put myself in harm’s way because I think that this mission is important in terms of serving the United States and advancing our interests around the globe.’ And so we dishonor them when we turn things like this into a political circus,” he said.

President Obama continues to play politics over the coffins of four Americans who died in service to their country while he ignored their pleas for help.  That’s his modus operandi.  He’s playing politics now just as he did over the coffins of the young children who were murdered by a crazed lunatic at Sandy Hook Elementary School in his quest to savage the Second Amendment to the Constitution.  It’s time to hold him and his accomplices accountable.  They should be investigated, charged if there is evidence of criminal activity, and tried in a criminal court.  Justice demands it.

The IRS shenanigans are another matter that deserve and are getting attention. The president says that he has “no patience” with it and that he “won’t tolerate it.”  Well, Mr. President, they were your people, and they were targeting your political opponents who had the audacity to talk about the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and freedom.  Your culpability in that matter is still an open question.  More on that issue will follow.

Theodore Shoebat: Holocaust of Christians in the Muslim World on the Horizon— Arrests and deportations of Christians in Sudan are becoming more momentous in Bashir’s government. On April 12, the Secretary General of the Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference was ousted out of North Sudan into South Sudan. As a church elder in Khartoum was praising God in his church, government officials from the Security Service (NISS) seized and interrogated him for information on Christian missionaries in North Sudan.

Richard Baehr: The lies pile up and the president goes silent—The week just ended may have been the worst week experienced by the Obama administration, and there are over 220 to choose from. The congressional testimony by three whistle-blowers on the widening Benghazi scandal drew attention even from the mainstream media outlets, which had chosen to bury the story for months. The president’s press secretary, Jay Carney, in a performance worthy of a short career in this capacity, managed to double down on the falsehoods, continuing to avoid admitting even the obvious. For starters, Carney maintained that the talking points distributed to U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice for use in her appearances on the major news networks a few days after the attack in Benghazi on September 11 reflected what was known about the attacks, as opposed to the story the administration wanted to get out there (a spontaneous demonstration in reaction to an anti-Muslim video), and that the changes in the talking points in the days prior to Rice’s appearances were merely stylistic, rather than substantive.

Avi Issacharoff: Netanyahu’s Secret Talks with the Palestinians—Israel and the Palestinian Authority tried to initiate backchannel negotiations in late 2010 and early 2011 in a series of secret meetings between the prime minister’s envoy, attorney Yitzhak Molcho, and the head of the PLO Executive Committee, Yasser Abed Rabbo, who revealed these contacts in an interview in Ramallah last week. Abed Rabbo said he and Netanyahu met for 2 1/2 hours in mid-February 2011. Abed Rabbo said, “Molcho emphasized in the meetings the importance of the Jordan Valley, settlement blocs, and early-warning stations on West Bank mountains. I ruled this option out.”

Some of the most spectacular Iranian terror attacks – such as the 1994 bombing of the Jewish community center in Buenos Aires – not only occurred under Rafsanjani’s watch but also with his direct authorization.

Tony Badran: Israel’s Strategic Clarity in Syria— It was perhaps fitting that the multiple Israeli strikes in Damascus last week followed Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah’s address from Tehran. Nasrallah had warned last Tuesday that the “resistance” was ready to face any Israeli assault and would emerge victorious in any confrontation. Instead, Nasrallah returned from Tehran just in time to witness Israel destroy multiple consignments of Iranian ballistic missiles intended for his group. The Israeli raids provide much needed strategic clarity to the conflict in Syria, throwing into sharp relief two basic points: Israel is not about to let the balance of power with Iran change. In addition, Iran’s ability to strike back has been shown to be decidedly limited.

Joseph Klein: The United Nations’ Hezbollah Protection Force— The United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 1701 in August 2006, which brought about an end to the 34-day war between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. The resolution called on the Lebanese government to “secure its borders and other entry points to prevent the entry in Lebanon without its consent of arms or related materiel” and authorized the peacekeepers of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (‘UNIFIL”) to assist the government of Lebanon to accomplish this objective “at its request.”

[This article is a year old, but I wanted to run it again today for reasons that I hope are obvious—at least I hope they are obvious to Christians.  Many Christians have been bamboozled by Barack Obama, and they don’t seem know it.  I hope they don't know it, because if they do know it, they have consciously made a choice for Obama and against Yahweh.  I'm not judging.  I'm explaining.  That's what the evidence says.]

Pew Research Center—Poll: Israelis Believe in Peaceful Coexistence, Palestinians Don’t:

According to a Pew poll released May 9, Israelis, on balance, believe a way can be found for an independent Palestinian state to coexist peacefully with their country.

Palestinians, on the other hand, overwhelmingly do not think this is possible, and a plurality believes armed struggle rather than negotiations or nonviolent resistance is the best way to achieve statehood.

83% of Israelis view the U.S. favorably, while 79% of Palestinians view it unfavorably.

In the region, 86% or more in Lebanon, Jordan, the Palestinian territories, Egypt, Tunisia and Turkey have an unfavorable view of Israel.

Caroline Glick—The dirty little secret about Israel’s Arabs:

In 2010, Cpl. Eleanor Joseph became the first female Arab combat soldier in the Israel Defense Force. Joseph, a Christian Arab told Israel’s daily Ma’ariv that her good luck charm is a drawing of the Star of David with the caption: “I have no other land, even when my ground is burning.”

Her commander drew it for her.

Joseph explained, “It is a phrase that strengthens me. Every time I experience hardship, I read it. Because I was born here. The people I love live here: my parents, my friends. This is a Jewish state? Yes, it is. But it’s also my country. I can’t imagine living in any other place. I think every person should serve in the army. You live here? You make your home here? Then go defend your country. What does it matter that I’m an Arab?”

Joseph’s story represents an incipient trend of integration among Israel’s Arab community. Among other things, this trend is manifest in the consistently rising number of Israeli Arab students who elect to study in Hebrew-language schools and in the rising number of Israeli Arabs who elect to serve in national service, the civilian equivalent of military service.

Peter Ford—Why China Is Welcoming Both Israel’s Netanyahu and Palestinians’ Abbas:

Both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas have been in China this week, highlighting China’s desire to play a greater role in Middle East diplomacy.

A statement last week from the Chinese Foreign Ministry offering to facilitate talks between the two visitors caused a flurry of international speculation that Beijing was claiming a direct role in Middle East peacemaking. But such a meeting was never on the cards; Mr. Abbas left Beijing before Mr. Netanyahu arrived in the capital from Shanghai.

And few observers here have any illusions about the limits to China’s clout in the conflict-torn region.

“In the Far East we are No. 1,” says Yin Gang, one of the country’s most prominent Middle East experts. “In the Middle East we are No. 12.”

Jacey Fortin: Iranian Terror Goes Global: Bold New Tactics for Tehran’s Shadowy Quds Forces—On Monday two suspects were convicted in Kenya of planning to set off explosions in several cities. Kenyan officials say they are members of the Quds Force, a covert arm of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC). The shadowy group has changed its tactics over the past two years, morphing from a sophisticated intelligence agency that empowered other groups to do its bidding to a rather haphazard perpetrator of violent attacks in its own right. Several of its recent attempts have been at least partly foiled around the world, from Kenya to India to Thailand.

Elhanan Miller: Top PA Official: Israel “Is Our Main Enemy, Resistance Is Still Our Agenda”—Jibril Rajoub, deputy secretary general of Fatah’s Central Committee and former head of Arafat’s Preventive Security Force in the West Bank, told Lebanese TV channel Al-Mayadeen on May 1 that “resistance in all of its forms” remains Fatah’s strategy against Israel, and defined the Jewish state as “the main enemy” of Arabs and Muslims. “At this stage, we believe that popular resistance – with all that it entails – is effective and costly to the other side [Israel].”

Michael Herzog: Israel’s Real Target Is Not Syria But Hizbullah—Israel has no interest in getting drawn into the Syrian quagmire. Its target is strategic weapons destined for Hizbullah in Lebanon. On the one hand, Israel appreciates the potential benefits of President Assad’s departure, which would be a blow to Iran and Hizbullah. On the other, the Syrian mess is empowering Islamists and jihadists, who may later threaten Israel directly, ending nearly 40 years of quiet on the Israeli-Syrian border.

Karl Vick: China Can Posture, But It Can’t Bring Peace to the Middle East—In talks with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, Chinese President Xi Jinping brought up a four-point plan to bring the century-old Israel-Arab conflict to an end. “The Chinese are trying to be Europeans,” says Gerald Steinberg, professor of political studies at Bar-Ilan University in Israel. “They want to be global actors, and the way to be global actors is to claim that you have something to offer. They have good trade relations with Israel, but there’s a huge gap in terms of understanding the perceptions of the region.” The reality, Steinberg says, is that no country except the U.S. is trusted enough by both sides to serve as broker to peace talks.

Dexter Filkins: The Thin Red Line—On April 25, Syrian medical technician Majid Daraya was sitting at home in the city of Daraya, near Damascus, when he heard an explosion. On the southern horizon he saw a blue haze. Seconds later came another blast and another blue haze. Within a few minutes, his eyes began to burn, and he felt sick to his stomach. He walked to the local hospital where he worked as an anesthesia specialist. When he arrived, dozens of people were streaming in, choking, vomiting, crying, saliva bubbling out of their mouths. The victims were suffering from chemical poisoning, but none died. On the way home, Majid saw birds, goats, chickens, and stray dogs writhing on the ground. Others were dead.

Dexter Filkins: Israel’s Red Line in Syria— President Barack Obama has his red line for intervening in the Syrian civil war. And, as events over the weekend showed, Israel has its own—and it’s Hezbollah. On Friday and Sunday, Israeli jets reportedly struck targets around Damascus, the Syrian capital, leaving explosions and cratered wreckage in their wake. Friday’s attack appeared to be directed at a shipment of missiles. According to the Times, the Sunday attack, which was much larger, struck bases controlled by the Syrian Republican Guard, warehouses for long-range missiles, and a chemical-weapons facility. The Israeli airstrikes have raised fears that the conflict could spread beyond Syria’s borders. In the immediate future, the chances of a wider conflict are probably slim; Assad is too stretched to mess with the Israelis. But in the longer term, a wider war—involving Hezbollah and Iran—seems increasingly likely. The Israeli strikes are the opening shot.

Ken Klukowski—Pentagon Taps Anti-Christian Extremist for Religious Tolerance Policy:

“Today, we face incredibly well-funded gangs of fundamentalist Christian monsters who terrorize their fellow Americans by forcing their weaponized and twisted version of Christianity upon their helpless subordinates in our nation’s armed forces.”

Those words were recently written by Mikey Weinstein, founder of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), in a column he wrote for the Huffington Post. Weinstein will be a consultant to the Pentagon to develop new policies on religious tolerance, including a policy for court-martialing military chaplains who share the Christian Gospel during spiritual counseling of American troops.

Weinstein decries what he calls the “virulent religious oppression” perpetrated by conservative Christians, whom he refers to as “monstrosities” and “pitiable unconstitutional carpetbaggers,” comparing them to “bigots” in the Deep South during the civil rights era.

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy.
