KOALA KID AT LA ZOO

In celebration of the release of the DVD Release of Koala Kid the LA Zoo had a special screening along with a private tour of the Koala exhibit.

Guests were able to have a Q&A with one of the Zookeepers at the LA Zoo.

And a chance to interview Jenni Pulos (voice of Charlotte in the film and star of Bravo's hit TV show, Flipping Out)

Unfortunately I was not able to attend this event :( So what is the movie about?

CASTLE PARK - RIVERSIDE

Last spring and summer we went to Castle Park in Riverside. Check out our posts below

We went to Castle Park and I was really surprised at how many rides my preschooler could get on! It was great to see a lots of shady areas and places to sit while my preschooler got on the rides.

Out of 27 rides 11 of them he could ride alone and 9 of them he could ride with a partner.

Loved seeing my son run around from ride to ride.

His favorites...

Crazy Plane - A kid-sized plane (adults can ride too)....rode 3 times!

Castle Park Railroad - a 15 minute ride around the park

Antique Car Ride - cute setting....he rode this about 6 TIMES!!!! He loved it. We came back to this ride later to ride over and over again. Saw some other kids that we had seen early re-riding also!

They have a beautiful Merry-Go-Round that both kids and adults love!

He didn't build up his courage to go on Log Ride, but he now says that next time we go that he wants to get on.

I went to Buccaneer Cove at Castle Park, Riverside (it is discounted on Mondays). We have previously went to Castle Park to enjoy the rides last winter and had seen glimpses of Buccaneer Cove. My son so wanted to go in and explore. Finally our patience paid off when the weather started getting warmer.

Buccaneer Cove is like a giant playground with water.

It was 5 water slides,

My son was able to ride all of them, (42") but was intimidated by the tunnel one! Maybe next time!

My son loved the water shooters and getting me wet!

There are plenty of chairs to lay out and relax...some of them have shade, and if you would like you can rent a cabana.

We had such a great time....my son asked me after we left, mom we need to explore some more, they have GOLFING! Maybe next time!

I liked this one! you can turn the wheel and the "umbrella" turns!

My son loved running through this!

I did mommy and me with my son since he was 2 and this seemed like the natural next step for us. More like my ease of separation from my son than his - LOL!

They have 3 Rooms, Room 1 is for 2 to 3 year olds (no need for potty training),
Room 2 is for 3 to 4 year olds, and Room 3 is for 4 to 5 year olds. It is a PARENT PARTICIPATION School which means that you are part of the school. You are a teacher's aide 2 to 3 times every six weeks and a Housekeeper (set up snacks, wash dishes....etc) once every six weeks.

This is my 2nd year at the school. My son is in Room 3 (4 to 5 year olds). My son LOVES it. We love the feeling of being part of the community and part of our child's learning. As a parent I like participating in the classroom as a teacher aide meeting my sons friends and seeing what he is learning. My son is one of those when you ask what did you learn today....says I don't know, so being in the class and getting the weekly email updates help me know what is going on and get him to open up more. The teachers have taught me how to use play as a teaching method with my son. Two major changes in my son are 1-participating in the classroom, in mommy and me he never stood up to dance or sing, 2-learning to use a pencil, with me he would act soooo tired!

I haven't experienced Room 2 ( 3 to 4 year olds), but on my days of being a Housekeeper I have watched Room 1 and I love the way the teacher sets up the snack time and teaches them manners "More water....please" and they get to pour their own drinks. There circle time is great with silly songs and learning their numbers and colors.

The school is really inexpensive! They supply the snacks which are always healthy, creative and yummy. At the end of the school you they give you a scrapbook on your child's work throughout the year which I LOVE since I don't ever find time to do it myself.

Following outstanding audience response a year ago, Inland Pacific Ballet returns to the stage this month with the magical fairy tale story of Cinderella.

Inland Pacific Ballet’s original Cinderella is an enchanting version of this classic story featuring a spunky Cinderella, a pair of heartless Stepsisters, and a majestic Fairy Godmother. First premiered in 2006, the production is set to be even more spectacular this year.

In addition to the public performances, IPB also offers its Eudcational Outreach Program for pre-K through high school students. “A Young Person’s Guide to the Ballet” offers morning performances during the school day for public, private and homeschool students. Each 75 minute performance inlcudes an educational talk about ballet, a demonstration of theatre stagecraft and audience participation that has students dancing in their seats. Outreach performances are scheduled for April 18 and 19, and May 2 and 3. The Outreach Program is supported, in part, by grants from Target and The Haskell Fund. I have been to this show I think twice now and it each time I have been delighted by the cast. What is Expressing Motherhood? It is a show with real mothers telling their own stories about motherhood.

WE LOVE DINOSAURS! NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM

Where: Natural History Museum

Price: $12 Adult, $9 Youth (13-17), $5 Child (3-12)

FREE Days: May 7th, June 4th, September 3, 10, 17, and 24, October 1st, November 5th, and December 3rd.

I have been there during a FREE day and it wasn't crazy crowded.

Now to the DINOSAURS!!!! Have I ever mentioned that my son is obsessed with Dinosaurs? His 4th Birthday party was Dinosaur themed and still now he tell you that he is an expert on Dinosaurs.

They have an awesome Dinosaur Hall where you can see there are 20 complete dinosaur skeletons.

Next stop the Dinosaur Encounter where NHM takes you back to the time of dinosaurs to meet "Hunter" the TRex and "Dakota" the Triceratops, two different shows. Being Dinolovers we had to watch both. The TRex was a bit scary for my son, but he managed through it. Check the calendar before you to see if they are going to be presented. The shows alternate the dinosaurs.

Last make your way to the Discovery Center where your child can see the puppet that is not being used on display and see how a person fits inside it. You can put together a dinosaur skeleton (pictured on top) and touch other fossils and minerals.

So if your child LOVES DINOSAURS make sure you take them to this museum!
