Hi friends!
Today I wanted to talk about my experience with eyelash extensions. The process, the commitment, the expense, the upkeep, etc. I have had a lot of friends asking me questions since I have gotten them so I figured I would designate a blog post to answering all of those questions.
First of all, do I think they are worth it? The short answer: yes.

Yes, I love them, it makes getting ready in the morning much easier/quicker. I feel prettier going out without any make-up, and just overall they make my entire look look even better. I will say though, if I had other commitments (i.e. children, extra bills, etc) these would definitely be the first "luxury" to go. In the mean time, while I am young and have some extra money I am going to keep them.
With that being said, if you do decide to get them here are some things you should know beforehand.

First - The cost. This is definitely something that you need to know prior to making the commitment to eyelash extensions. And yes, that's right, it's a commitment. The first application costs between 100-300 depending on where you live - honestly it could get even more expensive in more affluent parts of the nation. After the first application you then have to get the lashes refilled every month (the length of time your natural lashes fall out) and that is usually between 50-100 dollars.

Second - The process. The first application took me about 2 hours. Here's the run down on what happens exactly. You go into the little room, lay down, the beautician puts some sticky eye things under your eyes so she doesn't have to worry about your lower lashes getting in the way, and she begins applying each individual lash extension to your natural lash with a super strong eyelash glue. It's definitely a process, so if you are a mover and a shaker - this probably isn't the thing for you haha. Some people fall asleep and others, like myself, make some small talk with the beautician. Regardless, you are laying down for an extended period of time and you can't really move around.

Third - Upkeep. The thing that scared me the most about eyelash extensions was that it is recommended to not wear any eyeliner/mascara with a certain kind of chemical in it because it will mess around with the glue in some scientific way that I do not know how to articulate. Listen folks. I'm an eyeliner girl. I love a cat eye. So this was very worrisome to me. BUT you know what I did? I searched long and hard for an affordable all natural eyeliner that could do what I needed, I couldn't find one I was happy with, so I just used my normal eyeliner. And you know what? My lashes stayed on so crisis averted haha. BUT - I never wear mascara (ok I did on my wedding day but that was because I needed to be extra) or waterproof makeup. I also take my makeup off with a normal make up wipe as well, I am just extra careful when taking my eyeliner off so I don't tug on my lashes. So yea, I don't really follow all of the rules to keep the lashes on longer, but I've been happy with how long mine stay on, so I'm not changing anything. Also - you are supposed to brush them at the beginning and end of the day with a normal spooly brush (mascara brush) which really isn't difficult at all. Just keeps them in their place when they decide to go crazy after a night of sleep.

My experience with the extensions has definitely been positive and worth the money I have spent. Here is a link to the lovely lady that does mine if you are from around my area - I definitely recommend her.

Hi there loveys!
I was debating on what to post - torn between either a DIY costume post, easy lo mein recipe, or last minute costume ideas for Halloween.
WELL - luckily I do not have to work on Friday's so I designate my Friday's to running errands, appointments, cleaning the house, etc. Turns out, my best friend (whom decided to move 9 hours away from me) called me so we decided to talk for about 3 hours and I lost track of time and failed to do any of those things.
You know what, I lied, I DID hang up my laundry (I know, I know, way to go Rach).
Since I spent so much time talking to her I decided that I was going to just turn today into a lazy day, watch scary movies, blog, and catch up on writing my thank-you notes from the wedding.
With that being said, 2 of those 3 blog options listed above required me to actually get up and make something, where as one of those options only requires me to brainstorm and put it onto the internet. So, as you can see, the winner is the last minute costume idea's.
I'm such a good blogger. HA.
But, if any of you are like me, you need this post. You need it simply because you had all intentions of coming up with a beautiful, elaborate costume...but then you look at the calendar and you have less than 24 hours before you need your costume. Well this post is for you. Your welcome, and no, no, I don't need your money - keep it and buy a drink on me ;) I'm doing this simply out of the kindness of my heart because I love you. :)
Without further adieu, here are some ideas.
A SUPER ADORABLE BAT

I've been a bat for literally 3 years in a row because this outfit is not only simple, but cute. And if you are like me and tend to walk aimlessly around college towns in the cold on halloween night, it's a good one to stay comfy and warm with. You can do cartwheels, dance without worrying about something slipping out, and you make really good friends with the vampires for some reason. I posted a couple years ago on this DIY - check it out.

This one was on the list of options for me this year. Ultimately the gypsy won out, but that was only because I couldn't find the right scarf and I didn't want to run to the store. Yes, I am lazy, I know. Don't rub it in.

Like I said previously, this is what I am going to be this year. I have a gypsy heart so I only find it fitting I am a gypsy this year. All you need is a beautiful off the shoulder shirt, a long beautiful flowing skirt, a head scarf, and minuscule make up skills. Perfect.

If you have long hair and are willing to sacrifice the "cute" factor of Halloween, this is a perfect idea. It's hilarious, clever, and SUPER easy. You just need a top hat and a pant's suit. Bonus points if you have a walking stick. Tie your hair in front of your face to make a "beard" and BOOM, sup Abe. (Sorry Ken)

Yes, I did have to look up how to spell that. BUT - aside from that, this was another one of my sister's costumes a few years back. She carried around a clown fish and it was adorable.

Or you could just go spend the 20 bucks at Walmart and be a banana. That's always a good go-to. Do the splits and you're a banana split. Man, am I clever or what?

TASTES | garlic thyme chicken noodle soup (with dumplings).

Hi friends! The weather is getting colder so you know what that means. Soup time.

With that being said, I have really been craving some chicken and dumpling soup lately so I decided to come up with a new recipe that ties in some new, yet classic, flavors to keep my palate interested.

Let me tell you, it turned out amazing, too. It was simple, quick, and super easy to make as well!

Read on if you are interested in trying out this new recipe!

Soup ingredients

48 oz of chicken broth

Egg noodles

2 chicken breasts

1 cup chopped carrots

1 cup chopped celery

3-4 garlic cloves

2 stems dried thyme

Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

First up - grab a big stock pot and fill 'er up with your chicken broth. Get it nice and boiling, then we can begin to add some ingredients.

Now here is the key to this recipe, the garlic. Grab 3-4 cloves of garlic, peel them, then take the side of our knife and smash them. (Yes, just smash them.) Thrown 'em into the broth, let it stew.

Take your veggies, give 'em a rough chop. I like them with a little body left to 'em since they will be cooking in the soup for awhile. I like to be able to see the chunks of veggies, and not have to worry about them disintegrating. Add 'em to the soup, let them cook for 5 minutes.

Then add the noods and chopped, cooked chicken. You could go with thick egg noodles, thin, long, short, etc. Your preference entirely. Just make sure the are egg noodles. Cook for about 20 minutes on medium heat or until your noodles are soft but not too soft. El dente as the Italian's say.

While your soup is stewing away, it's dumpling time.

Dumpling ingredients

1 cup flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon sugar

1 table spoon butter

Salt/pepper to taste

1 teaspoon thyme

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 cup milk

Mix your dry ingredients and butter. Make sure the butter is cold. Cut it in until there are just small little pieces of butter within the dry mix.

Add your milk.

Mix until it is combined. It should be a slightly sticky dough.

Add in your thyme. I usually error on the side of more since I like some flava' in my dumplings, but your call. You do you.

Mix it all together.

Ball it up. I like the dumplings to be about an inch in circumference, but some people like them smaller, some bigger. Again, your call.

Drop it into the soup, and make sure the soup is hot, if not boiling. Put the lid on the pot and simmer the soup with the dumplings for 10 to 15 minutes. Until they are cooked through. They should still taste a little doughy, but not sticky.

And wah-lah! There is your garlic thyme chicken noodle soup. Let me tell you, this is BOMB. Please try it, and if you like it let me know! I love soup season, so I'm hoping to try making some new soups as the months get colder.

LOVE | i got hitched, ya'll.

Hi lovelies, Look at me - posting two days in a row. Let's get this ball rolling, amirite?
Like I eluded to yesterday, here is a little update on a significant life event that happened about a month ago.
My man, of about 9 years, and I got hitched. And it was perfect.

Every aspect of the day went swimmingly, thankfully. I was very worried something dumb was going to happen and I was going to not have much fun at all, but fortunately that was all just an irrational fear.

The weather was perfect. The food was perfect. The music was perfect. Claude ate a couple of flower petals, but overall it was a perfect day. I couldn't have asked for anything more.

I was surrounded by my favorite people and was showered in love. Definitely such a weird feeling to be surrounded by literally everyone you know in your life, no matter where you know them from.

Now, lets talk about the man in the pictures (no not Claude, Drew). He might be super annoying most of the time, but did you see that picture of him crying? I never for the life of me ever fathomed someone would ever love me that much... let alone choose to love me that much. I honestly don't know why he likes me, but hey, I'll take it. ;)

Like I said, I couldn't have asked for a more perfect day, wedding, honeymoon, or man to spend the rest of my life with.

LIFE | update.

Hi beautiful friends!
My, oh, my! It's been quite some time hasn't it? For those of you still with me, I'd like to say I'VE MISSED YOU SO MUCH - for those of you who are new to my stream of consciousness, I say, BEWARE *HOT MESS ALERT*.
How are ya'll? What's new? What's been happening the last few years?
My life has been, well, crazy to say the least. The last 3 years have been ridiculously busy, exciting, and overwhelming.
I will tell you now, though, life has definitely toned down quite a bit. I have a legitimate job now, no school, my dog is potty trained, my husband is *almost* house trained, I'm basically living the life and I hope you are interested in joining me.
So, with that being said - I will leave you with a little pic eluding to my upcoming post. All about my WEDDING - yes, I know, I am married now! What? Tell me about it... I don't know how it happened either.

LIFE | slp interview/job search tips.

Hi friends, long time no see! This whole blog thing has taken a back seat due to life being crazy so to all my loyal followers, I'm sorry!! I'll post randomly throughout the years, but it definitely will not be as often as I used to. Hopefully you all will understand!
With that being said, a lot has happened since the last post. Let me start from the beginning.
As many of you know, I went to college for speech-language pathology. You can see what exactly that is here.
Well, through that major you have to go through 2 externships - one school based and one medically based. I have accomplished both of those and I am now graduating this May and finally getting the degree I worked for so hard!
So, since graduation is coming up, the past few months have been filled with job searching. When going to interviews and looking for jobs I turned to, what everyone does, the internet for some advice. Unfortunately I did not find as much information as I would have liked, so I kind of had to figure it out on my own. So, through all of those experiences I went through, I learned what exactly to expect when job-searching. I figured I would share it for you upcoming graduates as well, because I'm sure you are all somewhat freaking out like the Type A people us SLPs are.
Lets begin with the job search. I began looking at jobs the beginning of my last externship, in January. I didn't apply, I just started looking on indeed and monster. I set up my resume and finalized it and just tried to get everything ready to go for when I was ready to apply. I began actually applying to jobs beginning in Mid-febuary. I applied to the jobs that I found in my location on those previous named job search websites. I focused my search on hospitals, private practices, and SNFs. Then after I applied to those places I did a quick google-search and compiled a list of numbers of all the SNF's and private practices in my area and called them to see if they had any openings.
A lot of places I did not hear back from, some I heard back right away, some have contacted me later on, you really cannot tell when exactly or if you will get contacted just because you apply. I think that often if you apply on those job-search websites that they are just left on there after already accepting an applicant or they are just trying to get information to potentially contact you later on when they actually need a speech therapist.
It is worth your while to call places though. I found 3 places that were not listed online through calling them, one of them I will be working part time for now. It pays off to be thorough.
So, through all of that, I had a total of 10 interviews at 6 different facilities before I started cutting off the requests for interviews. Which had to happen. Believe me guys, you do not have to worry about getting a job, I promise. They need you way more than you need them.
I interviewed at 2 big hospitals, 2 SNF's, 1 autism center, and 1 Private Practice/First steps agency. If you are interested in info about schools, I'm sorry I can't help much in that aspect.
So, I will lay it out in the order the interviews came.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hospital #1: First I interviewed at a big hospital where I live. I applied online, they contacted me in 3 days, I had an interview the next week. The first interview was very nerve racking, I thought they were going to ask me case scenario questions, like "How would you informally assess a right hemisphere CVA?" or "What steps would you take if you were presented with x and the client was y?" You know, stuff like you read on the Praxis. I was mistaken. There were really no specific questions like that. It was basically questions as to how I handled certain situations in the past (i.e. has anyone ever disagreed with you? how have you handled it?, have you worked with other professionals?, what are you specific experiences?, etc) So much easier than I thought it would be. Granted, it was still not the easiest interview, but still much easier than expected.
So, after that initial interview they called me back for another interview. Yay! The second interview just consisted of my shadowing the SLP that would be my supervisor. She just showed me around and let me follow her for 3 hours, just to see what a day was like at that hospital. No questions were really asked, she was just getting a feel for who I was. Super simple.
SNF #1: My second interview was at a really big SNF in the area. They had 180 beds, 4 dining halls, 4 cats, 1 dog, it was just overall huge. I got there, filled out a paper application (which I thought was a little silly since I had already filled out all that information online, but whatever I did it) and then met with the rehab manager. She took me on a tour of the facility. It had long term care, rehab, a locked memory unit, skilled nursing, assisted living, everything. I'm telling you it was huge. I got lost really quickly while I was there just due to it being so big. After the initial tour, she then took me back to her office and just asked the basic "tell me about yourself question" and "what are your experiences." Nothing crazy, way easier than the first interview. She then asked if I had questions and, I of course, had a lot. So basically it was like I was interviewing her. I thanked her at the end and was on my way.
SNF #2: So, it was really nice seeing two separate SNFs so I could compare then. The second one I interviewed for was much smaller, only 70 beds and it seemed overall much more chill. Which I thought was super important. I couldn't justify accepting a position at a SNF that had 180 beds with one SLP when there is one that only has 70 beds and that SLP is busy 40 hours a week. I just felt that compared to the first SNF, this one would have been much more chill and I wouldn't be as stressed out working there. This interview was much like the other SNF interview. Went on a tour, back to the office, asked about my experiences, then asked if I had questions. Super simple. PLEASE if you are interviewing at a SNF don't worry at all. They just really need someone so they don't really ask specific questions. I also saw a puppy at this interview so that was also a win for this SNF.
Private Practice/First Steps: This interview is was for a hybrid type of facility. The provided both first steps (birth to 3) services and services at a private practice. This is one of the places that I wouldn't have known about if I hadn't called around the area. So, the first interview I had with them was a phone interview because I had taken off so many days for interviews for my externship I thought it'd just be easier to do it over lunch so I wouldn't have to worry about taking off more work. I fell in love with this interviewer. She was so sweet and understanding and I could really tell her passion for these young children. She asked my basic questions, tell me about yourself and your experiences, etc. Again, just trying to get a full understanding of who I am. This was just as easy as the other interviews, if not easier. She explained how first steps works and the positives and negatives of working there. She was an open book, which I really appreciated. We ended the phone call and I was then called for a second interview with the woman who would be my CF supervisor.
For the second interview, I met with my potential CF supervisor at the private practice. This was super simple, she just wanted to meet me and get to know me a little bit. Super easy. Nothing difficult at all, she just gave me information on how the job will go etc etc.
Autism Center: I was primarily interested in this facility just for the mere fact that I could potentially do feeding therapy, which is my ultimate career goal. They took me on a tour and then I went to a board meeting with 3 women. I must say it was a little intimidating, but that's okay. In the back of my head I knew I wasn't going to accept this position so I didn't worry about it as much. I just wanted to keep my options open and I knew right away when I toured the facility and they told me more about it that this center was not the place for me. They asked about my experiences, nothing specific. Pretty simple.
Hospital #2: This interview was at the hospital that I completed my externship in so I was much more comfortable interviewing here as opposed to the previous hospital. The first interview I had was with the director of rehab and then the manager of rehab. They asked me questions about my experiences, who I am, etc. Then, the questions got much harder. They asked me specific case scenario questions like "what have you done in the past when you realized something was not ethical" which was difficult for me to ask simply because I was new and I was blessed to have had great supervisors over my schooling. I never really was put in ethical situations. So those questions were tricky.
I then had a second interview with my peers. I was interviewed by 2 other SLPs who went through specific case scenarios (i.e. a parent isn't happy with how you manage behavior during the session, how would you make the parent happy while still getting therapy accomplished? a child comes in with a low grade fever and an occasional cough during feeding therapy, what would you next step be?). These questions were super specific and super intimidating. I tried my best and it seemed to work out.
THEN - I had one last interview at this hospital with another feeding specialist in the area. She basically just asked me questions as to why I wanted to be an SLP in the feeding/dysphagia field. Why I loved pediatric feeding/dysphagia, etc. It was more like a conversation, which was great because she could truly see my passion for that population.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So there we have it. Those were all of the interviews that I completed before I started rejecting interviews. Basically, from what I learned, hospital interviews are much more intense, which is understandable. All of the other interviews seemed pretty chill and just wanted to get an overall feel of who I was as a person and if I was willing to work hard.
I will tell you, though, each interview I had they asked "Tell me about yourself." When answering this question, please, do not tell them about how you are about to get married, you have a cute dog, etc. Tell them about yourself in the sense of what has led you to applying for that position.
Additionally, go in being energetic and excited for the opportunity. That's what will make you stand out. Even if you are excited about it, fake it. It's important for future employers to think you are excited and willing to work hard and are passionate.
We are CF's, they do not expect us to know everything, they just want to know we are willing to put the work in to be a good therapist. I think often, being a CF kind of puts us in a place of power as opposed to those who are more experienced. We are straight out of school, we are young, we are willing to work, and we are passionate. Talk that up as much as you can.
As for me, I accepted a position at hospital #2 and the first steps place because I have a passion for pediatric feeding and hospital #2 will allow me to be trained by a super knowledgeable woman (which is super important to me as I want to become a specialist down the field in this area, and it is hard to find a good mentor, especially in this area) and the first steps allows me the flexibility to pick up hours whenever I want and I still can work with feeding and the little kiddos, which are my favorite.
Please, do not rush things and do not accept a job you are not comfortable with just because it's a job. You are worth so much more than what you think, so take your time and go with your gut. It will all work out, it always does.

essential oil/magic potion recipes.

Hello lovelies! Hope life is going great! Today is actually beautiful hear in the midwest, the sun is shining, the snow is melting, life can't get much better!
Today I decided to talk about a new craze that I have recently fallen in love with. It is the use of essential oils. I'm telling you guys, if you have a little extra cash, go out and splurge on an essential oil diffuser. It will change your life!
Essential oils have been shown to relieve stress, pain, give you energy, help you fall asleep, everything! It is actually amazing. That kind of voo-doo naturalistic stuff I'm in love with.
With that said, however, I wanted to go ahead and post about a few essential oil "recipes" that will help with anything you need. Hope they work for you like they have been working for me!
To focus: Mix citrus oil with peppermint oil. For clear breathing/allergy help: peppermint oil, lemon oil, lavender oil. For getting sleep: Lavender oil and chamomile oil. Stress relief: Use some eucalyptus and peppermint. Anxiety problems: Citrus oil. Relaxation: Lavender oil.
Don't have a diffuser? No worries! Just rub the oil either on your temples or wrist and you will still feel the benefits of these magic potions. ;)

HERE WE ARE, yet again with another valentines day post. Why? Because I love any excuse to talk about love and/or the color pink.
Also, I figured that since I have already gotten your valentines gifting problems out of the way, I might as well go ahead and help you guys out with the date night outfit, right?
WELL. It's valentines day. So that gives you every excuse to break out the reds, the pinks, and the flowers. Here are a couple cute idea's I have come across.

wedding talk.

Since being engaged I have began to notice more and more about weddings, engagement pictures, invitations, and blah-blah-blahty-blah all that jazz.
I mean, I noticed before that people my age were getting engaged and married, but I never really noticed, ya know?
It's kind of like you don't really notice the food commercials until you are hungry. Right? Well, I never noticed the wedding hoopla until I became engaged.
And let me tell you. I'm a little irritated.
What? Irritated? Why? A wedding and engagement should be the best time in your life? It's a time where everyone gets to see you being SO happy? Everyone wishes they were you!
THAT RIGHT THERE is the issue.
I feel as if weddings have changed into a popularity contest.
I have the best dress. I have the best photos. Oooooh I had fireworks at my wedding. I had an open bar. I AM THE BEST BRIDE IN ALL THE LAND.

NEWSFLASH, folks. The wedding isn't about impressing others. And, it really just irks me that it has evolved to be another reason for people to get "likes" on Facebook.
Don't get me wrong, I think weddings are great and fun. But much too often I see the pictures of the wedding party in the limo with their fancy drinks and I notice, the bride and groom aren't even sitting with each other. Where is that selfie stick? In the brides hands as she parades around trying to get the perfect picture, instead of enjoying the once in a lifetime moment she is sharing with the man she is going to spend the rest of her life with.
Like, for real. Take a moment and chill with the camera phones and the social media.
If you are lucky enough to have found the love of your life, why does it matter so much to you that you have a perfect picture of EVERY INTERACTION YOU HAVE ON YOUR WEDDING DAY.
Additionally, the fact that the AVERAGE wedding cost today is 26,000 dollars. WHAT.
Do you know what I could do with 26,000 dollars?! Who in their right mind would spend that much on just ONE DAY.
I get it, sure, it's your wedding day. But the fact people are spending over 2000 dollars on flowers THAT WILL EVENTUALLY DIE is unfathomable. I just don't get it.
So, brides to be, take a request from me and just take a moment to enjoy the moment. Stop caring about the the attention and the "likes" and just remember, this is supposed to be a time for your and your fiance. Don't make it about everyone else.
If I offend anyone, I am truly sorry, but honestly...I feel as if some people will see my point of view on things. The world of social media is ruining the process of engagement and marriage and it is distracting us from the meaning of marriage.
Heck, maybe that's why 50% of people in the US get divorced? Who knows.

Hi Lovelies!

I really do apologize for being such a horrible blogger but this semester of school is really going to kick me in the but. It's only the 3rd week and I haven't had much time to even breath, yet alone blog. BUT-- I wanted to bring to attention a brand that had contacted me recently about a new set of extensions.

As you already know (if you have been a loyal So, hi reader) I have been through a TON of extensions, and I have reviewed all of them here on the blog. So when this company reached out to me I was like "Eh, I don't know if I really want another set... I have so much hair in my drawers already!" But then I thought about it, and I realized, why not try them out! Let my readers know if they are a good set of extensions because I have been seeing a lot of bloggers review them around the blogosphere so I wanted to provide my readers with a good review.

So here goes. Excuse the horrible, messy, hair. Story of my life. RATCHET. Oh well.

Again, I apologize for my ratchet hair. Bleaching it really rats it up hahaha. But you get the jist of the length that was added to my hair. A LOT. (Also, I didn't even use all of the clips and I had all of this "umph" added to my hair.)

Here's a better look at the length. And the color? OMG perfect. I ordered the Royal Remy Golden blonde 22 inch, 200 grams set.

So, here's the low down on what I thought about this new set of hair extensions.

1. The quality is GREAT, you can choose your length and the weight, very versatile too! You get exactly what you want.

2. The color is PERFECT. I have an ombre, so it's always hard to match the hair color, but this really worked well with my hair color. It blended wonderfully.

3. It's affordable (prices ranging from 37 dollars to 339) and they have a valentines sale going on now (so I'd by them now if you are planning on getting a set!)

4. Everyone needs a good set of extensions in the back burner to clip in and feel like a hot tamale once and awhile.

Hi lovelies! Sorry for the long break, I had internet issues since I was home for break. But, I am back to school and now I have reliable internet (thank the dear Lord). BUT I wanted to tell you guys about a wonderful Etsy site I have had the opportunity to collaborate.

It's that time of the year, to step back and remember what we are thankful for (it actually should be every day, but honestly, it never seems to take special importance until this season.)
With that said, I have compiled a small list that all of us should be thankful for... things that often go unnoticed until we are without it.
1. Pillows. 2. Hot tea. 3. Expresso shots. 4. Heating blankets. 5. Nail polish. 6. Love. 7. Being able to gather with family during the holidays. 8. Fluffy dogs. 9. Kittens. 10. The look in a babies eyes when he/she see's there mother after a nap. 11. The smell of an evergreen. 12. School. 13. Our health. 14. All of the color in the world. 15. PASTA 16. The way if feels when you take out a high pony after a long day. 17. The way it feels when you peel off a face mask. 18. Being able to have hot water so you can actually enjoy a shower. 19. Fuzzy socks. 20. Shoes that you don't have to wear socks with. 21. Bobby pins. 22. Our safety. 23. When someone randomly buys your Taco Bell order and just says "Merry Christmas." 24. The night sky in the country. 25. Candles. 26. Free birthday meals from restaurants. 27. Cozy fires. 28. Cuddles from your love. 29. Hugs from your mom. 30. The overall love you feel everyday. From that text making sure you made it home, to those thoughtful Christmas gifts you are about to receive.
Just remember that we are SO BLESSED. If you have the ability to be on the internet right now, you are so blessed. You have a roof over your head, food in your belly, a family that loves you. It's so important to lose sight on what is important to you in the hustle and bustle of life, but we all are truly SO BLESSED in so many ways.
This is just a small list, and surely there are so many more little things that we should be thankful for, but hopefully it is a little reminder as to how much we need to take a step back and thank God for the life he as given us.

last minute gift ideas.

WHAT? There are only 4 days until Christmas?!
Well if you are anything like me, you have bought some of your gifts, but lets be honest...you still have quite a few to buy.
I'm sure some of you are in the same boat as me, so here are some ideas for gifts to get for your loved ones!

1. Cookies. I always make cookies for last minute gifts, because, lets be honest. Who doesn't like cookies?

2. Knit something. Don't know how to knit? Literally Youtube it. So easy. Make a cup coozie or a ear warming. Literally takes no time at all and it's handmade, and believe me, everyone appreciates something homemade! (I am planning on doing a post on teaching you guys how to knit, stay tuned!

3. Make a recipe basket. Have a yummy recipe you like to make? Well, head over to Walmart and get all of the ingredients and put them all cutely in a basket, tie a bow around it, and leave the recipe card. BOOM. DONE.

4. Make your own coupon book. Have a mom who is overworked? Make a coupon book for her with coupons saying "Good for one free dish wash", "Good for one home cooked meal cooked by me", etc. A Boyfriend that deserves the best? "Good for one massage" "Your chance to pick the date" "Date's on me tonight." It's so cute, cheap, and so thoughtful!

5. Make a homemade mug. Go out and buy yourself a plain mug, decorate it with a sharpie, bake it for 30 minutes at 350 degrees, then you're done! You're left with a super cute gift that will be used all the time.

how to prepare for FINALS.

It's that time of the year again, folks.
FINALS.
Today kicks off finals week for my school, and since I have a few years under my belt I figured I could provide some of you newbies with some tips to make it through this rough time in your life.
It really does suck, doesn't it?
Well I have compiled a list of the best way to prepare for finals and to not completely freak out. I hope it helps. Here goes...
1. Sleep. Literally this is SO IMPORTANT (take it from m I was a tutor for 3 years, I know my stuff.) It actually is better to look over your notes once and get a good nights sleep rather than cram the all night the night before. It's been scientifically proven. Swear.
2. Reward yourself while studying. Whether that be food, an hour of a tv show you love, or talking with friends. You need to take a break, so enjoy that break.
3. Never study for one subject longer than 3 hours. If you go past 3 hours, you are going to get no where. Your brain has already retained all of the information it is going to. Either switch subjects or take an hour break and come back to it.
4. Don't let anxiety get the best of you. I personally have a problem with this, and I am always working on trying to remind myself that grades really don't matter in the grand scheme of things. If you pass, you'll most likely be okay. And if you put in the work, you will be fine.
5. Remember this is only one week in your life, and regardless in 5 days it is going to be over and you are going to be home with your family enjoying break.
6. If you're a senior, don't let finals take over your last moment in college. Enjoy it to its full extent. You won't remember the tests, projects, and papers in 20 years, but you will remember going out with your friends for dollar tacos, getting drinks and reminiscing about the past four years, and just spending quality time with people you might not see again for 15 years.
7. AND REMEMBER. IT'S JUST A TEST.

10 things i love about winter.

Hello lovlies!
So, it's December 5th, AKA winter-time and it got me thinking, man I really do not enjoy winter. The cold, dry air is just not that fun to walk to class every day in (thank goodness this year is a mild winter, I don't think I could handle another winter like the past two years again).
But I'm trying to stay positive so I decided to post about my top 10 favorite things about winter. So here goes...

1. Being able to wear cozy sweaters.

2. Being able to gain some extra weight because you can hide it under those cozy sweaters.

3. The snow actually is, well, pretty.

4. HOLIDAY SEASON. Friends, family, a break off of school... what could be better?

5. Cuddling by the fire place. (I mean, what's better than acting like you are the star of a romantic comedy?)

6. Christmas decor, music, and an overall feeling of joy is also wonderful. Not to mention the sparkling of a lit Christmas tree is beautiful.

7. HOT BEVERAGES. I don't know about you, but I love hot lattes, chocolate, tea, etc. but I can't make myself drink these hot beverages when it is actually hot out. I should get over it, but I literally cannot drink a hot drink when it is over 70 degrees out.

8. Seeing children build their first snowman/have a snow ball fight. SO CUTE.

9. Seeing dogs play in the snow.

10. And last, but definitely not least, HOLIDAY FOOD. Mac N Cheese, mashed potatoes, pie, chex mix, stuffing, etc. It's all wonderful, and what's great is you can splurge during this time of the year because well...refer back to #2.

Sorry for the small hiatus folks, I planned on blogging while on Thanksgiving break but there were so many family members to converse with, friends to catch up with, food to be eaten, and deals to catch that I didn't get the chance to focus on the blog.

But, I'm back! And BOY do I have a treat in store for you.

As many of you have probably noticed from my instagram and facebook, I have been LOVING blanket scarves lately. I also love small businesses and Etsy. So, when I saw this wonderful company on Etsy, I immediately thought of how much my readers would LOVE her blanket scarves.

Drape the scarf around your shoulders.

Grab yourself a big belt.

Then belt the scarf so it's connected, making a cute shaw/shirt!

The Classic.

Take your scarf and fold it in half so it looks like a triangle.

Then take the point of the triangle and make sure it is facing the front, then wrap the arms of the triangle around your neck to the opposite side.

The Donut.

Roll the scarf up.

Wrap it around your neck and tuck the extra part of the scarf under.

Or just enjoy it as a legit blanket, SO COMFY!

I don't know about you guys but I have recently been noticing the popularity of the use of bandanna's in every day outfits.

And I must say, I am not a fan.

But, I also didn't dig the 90's trends at first and now I am rocking some styles that are 90-esque. So, maybe it'll grow on me. Who knows?

People are putting bandanna's EVERYWHERE. Their purses, their necks, their hair... using it as a dog collar. The madness!
Not to mention that bandannas are an extremely affordable. So no wonder people are loving them.

Hi lovelies!
I have had something hanging over my head for quite some time now so I figured I would take it to my blog to vent about it, because, well, that's what a blog is for, right?
SO - LETS JUST DIVE INTO IT.
So, most of you reading this are fellow bloggers like myself. A lot of you also are trying to grow your following (which is totally fine!) by commenting on various blogs and collaborating with brands to get your name out there. You are in the facebook groups, twitter groups, hashtagging on insta, the whole sha-bang.
And you know what, I do it to. That's what blogging for profit is. If you hate it, go for it. But PLEASE do not hate on me for trying to get a little extra money in my pocket from doing a hobby that I thoroughly ENJOY.
With that said, let me talk to you about an experience I just had yesterday.
Lately I have been trying to pair up with various Etsy stores simply because I think Etsy is a wonderful thing and it brings normal, every day people into the business world. I would GLADLY buy something from a small business on Etsy than anywhere else because I enjoy supporting small business.
So I have been surfing around Etsy looking for products and companies that fit in line with not only my style, but your (my readers) style as well. So I find certain companies (literally, I search for companies that I know I will like and I know will fit well with the So, hi brand) and I reach out to them. I tell them my stats, why I am interested, the whole sha-bang to see if they would be potentially interested in collaborating with the blog.
Some of them say yes (which is so great! I have loved everyone I have worked with!) and some of them have said no (Which I totally understand, sometimes companies are over worked or cannot afford to give products away for free). I honestly do not expect every single company I reach out to to say yes. I get it, some people want to collaborate, some don't. It really is no issue, honestly.
Well, I reached out lately to a shop on Etsy that had various Wedding material because I am really interested in doing a featured post with Etsy shops that are geared toward the "wedding" audience. You know why? Because I'm recently engaged, my friends are recently engaged, and a ton of my readers are recently engaged. It makes total sense to me that I would post a wedding post, so why not pair up with various Etsy shops so I can include their products on the post! Well the response I got back was "Please don't spam" and I just thought to myself, is this what these Etsy shops are thinking? When I think of spam I think of a robot copying and pasting to every single comment board/email it can get to. I WROTE the email, I PROVIDED my reasoning as to why I think it would benefit the both of us, and I OFFERED something in exchange for the product. To me that isn't spam.
What do you think? Was I spamming? It really irked me because I do not want these wonderful companies I am reaching out to to think that are just any company. I literally look for products that I enjoy, I don't just pick random stores and message them. I pick stores that will fit with the blog. If I was going out emailing every company I thought would send me free things I wouldn't be fashion/beauty/lifestyle blog anymore. I'd be a toddler clothing, food (which I wish I was but the stars are not aligning for that one), fitness, alcohol, sorority, mommy, interior design, and DIY blog.
So there is my rant. If you have experienced this, please let me know what you think. It makes me sad and kind of discourages me to reach out to companies any more, even though I know I am helping their sales and benefiting them as well.
I like to think of bloggers and small businesses as partners. They need us for advertisement, and honestly, we need them for content. So why not ask for something simple like a product to review in return for a review post? I'm not fudging what I think about these products, I'm HONESTLY telling my readers what I think.
What is so bad about that?
Also, to the Etsy shops out there, please do not think that we bloggers are just out there to get free merchandise. We literally are trying to help you guys too. It's a great way to collaborate and it is beneficial for us both. I'm sure there are bloggers out there who are "spamming" but this blog is not one of them. Just give those blogs reaching out to a chance, actually look at their material, and see if you could potentially gain buyers from those blogs.
I do everything in my power to help these small businesses out. And so many of them appreciate it, I have actually had wonderful successes with all of the shops I have paired up with (and have made wonderful friendships with). WE are REAL people behind these blogs. Just remember that. We are not grubby robots trying to get every thing you have.
So. Yea. Hit me with your experiences/what you think because I'm sure I'm not the only blogger who has dealt with this.

Lately I was given the wonderful opportunity of trying out a bunch of fun skin care products from Anatomicals and Formula 10.0.6.

They sent me so many wonderful things that it has taken over a month to review all of the items! But here we are, and all of the products have been reviewed, and now I am about to tell you HOW WONDERFUL these products actually are!

First of was the lotions and body scrub. OH MY GOSH. THE SMELLS.

So good. And that citrus body scrub had my legs feelin' like a babies bottom. The hand cream was great to use before bed, and the body butter moisturized like no other.

I was also sent two soaps to review. And again, THE SMELLS. Literally smells SO GOOD. And the soaps are real sudsy, so you feel super duper clean.

These three products were my absolute favorite, however. I love masks, and fortunately I had the opportunity to try out 3 of formula 10.0.6's glorious masks. The "Keep Your Cool" mas smelled so wonderful, like there were cucumbers all over your face. The "Get Your Glow On" peel mask also had a wonderful smell (it smelled like summer) and it was so much fun to peel off the mask after it had dried. This was my ultimate favorite. Lastly, the "Pores Be Pure" mud mask left my skin feeling so clean and beautiful.

Now these products were great as well. Unfortunately I have an issue with black heads, and from using this daily foaming cleanser and the Three Times Sublime wash my blackheads have deteriorated. Also, the Seriously Shine Free moisturizer was great to apply at night to keep my skin from getting dry during these cold winter months.

Lastly, the So Totally Clean cleanser and Face Off make-up wipes. The cleanser was great and it felt like it was working as soon as it was applied. I could feel the cleanser extracting the impurities of my skin, and even though it stung a little, it left my skin feeling fresh. Additionally, the face off wipes were a life saver this past month as well. I notoriously forget to take off my make up at night, and having these wipes accessible helped me take off my make up quickly before bed, and then I didn't have to wake up the next morning with a brand new pimple on my face.

Overall, not only are these products super funny and cute, but they also smell glorious and are pretty. NOT TO MENTION THEY ACTUALLY WORK. You can purchase these items at Ulta or Amazon, which I thought was pretty cool, since they are so accessible to so many people. So get out there folks, and try them out! Even if you don't like them you will have some cute colors added to your bathroom closet. ;)

what is love?

Today marks the day I have been with my wonderful boyfriend for a whole 7 years.

That's right, I said 7 years. I have been with him for literally 1/3 of my life. Guys, I'm pretty sure in some states we are common law married.

So this is a tribute blog to my best friend, my partner in crime, and my knight and shining armor.

We were so lucky to have met so early in life (I was 14, him 16) and to have the opportunity to grow up together. We have been through high school together, cheering him on whenever he'd get a touchdown, we've been through a summer of lineman school (the electric kind, not football kind), we've been through a super depressing college freshman year (it was rough folks), and now we are here. Me, in my last year at school and finishing up graduate school, and him, after just buying a nice home and venturing off into adulthood.

This is the type of thing I love about life and love. God puts you in the most perfect situations sometimes, and I just think it is awesome. I would have never fathomed that my first kiss would be my last, and honestly, I'm thinking that's what is going to happen with him (knock on wood).

I have always been realistic about the situations we have been in. I mean, to start dating at such a young age (I mean, 14? I was a BABY) it is hard to even fathom that a couple can last through all of the changes associated with "growing up." College, the first jobs, being away from each other for extended periods of time, personality changes, the fact that your brain LITERALLY ISN'T EVEN DEVELOPED YET (shout-out to my cognition slp's out there).

Luckily I am here now. And I don't think I really have to worry about our brains changing any more (we are at the end of the age where that frontal lobe is developing, so I think I made it!) and as we get older I love him more and more every. single. day.

I always had to remind myself through all of these changes, that it is OKAY if we were to not work out. I mean, when you are in a relationship so young you have two choices: Either grow together, or grow apart. The key there is growing. You change, it is inevitable, and luckily for us we were blessed to grow together and still maintain the interest and love towards one another.

I still remember the first dance we had, and I remember how nervous I was to fathom talking to a Junior football player when I was a measly little freshman who had never even had her first kiss. But he was the sweetest boy I could come into contact with, and now he has grown into the sweetest man I know.

We've been through 4 proms, 8 homecoming dances, like 14 billion dates, spending time at the lake together every summer for the past 6 years (did I mention somehow we both HAVE A COTTAGE AT THE SAME LAKE. ACROSS FROM EACH OTHER. Can you say fate?), 100 trillion forehead kisses, a few vacations, countless hugs, too many good-byes, not enough hellos, getting our first jobs, getting degrees, quitting jobs, making new friends (together), and so, so, so much more.

There isn't enough room to explain the life that I have been lucky to live with him. I literally feel like the luckiest person in the world to have the opportunity to be with such an amazing man. He's my rock. Literally. Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty independent (I mean he does refer to me as "the Boss") but I never find myself completely comfortable when I am without him.

So, with that all said, I just want to thank you, Bug, for being with me through all of these changes and going through this adventure called life, with me.

Love you so much, and I'm so happy to have the opportunity to spend the rest of my life with you.

Hi lovelies! I recently got the wonderful opportunity to review a wonderful jewelry company through Etsy.

Procrastinated on your Halloween outfit for tonight? Well, have no fear. Rach is here to save the day.

Here is a quick, easy, and CUTE outfit idea that you can make TONIGHT. Just in time for the festivities!

AND you most likely have most of the materials you already need at home!

What you need:

1. 6 ft x 4 ft black felt. (I used black sparkly felt, cause you know, you can never have too many sparkles)

2. Scissors

3. A stapler.

4. Safety pins.

5. 2 Hair ties.

6. Duck tape.

7. A headband.

Now, on to the directions...

1. Cut your felt with this design. I suggest using chalk to draw the outline first, then start cutting.

2. THEN, grab your two hair ties and staple them to where your wrists will be on the wings.

3. Then to put on your wings, put your wrists through the hair ties and then use safety pins to attack the top of the wings to your shirt (so it doesn't flop all over). I use about 4 safety pins and put them by my neck, and by my shoulders so the wings will hold their shape.

4. ON TO THE EARS. First, use the extra felt you have and cut out a "bat shaped ear" and make sure it's a little wide at the bottom.

5. Cut a slit on the bottom fourth of each ear and over lap the two sides. Staple where they over lap so your ears will stick up.

6. Fold duck tape (so the sticky side of the ducktape is on the outside) and attack it to the ear's, then attach the ears to the headband.

Wah-lah! Your outfit is done! Super simple and I think SUPER cute!
