When I ran across that name it stopped me cold in my Wiki-reading tracks. I immediately imagined Cannibal Corpse doing a heartfelt cover of “Amazing Grace”. I had to know more. Turns out, the music is actually not about death but rather our common bond in the inevitability of such an outcome and is therefore focused on celebrating all the things in life that hold meaning before we take our long dirt nap. And while the sound draws from gospel, outlaw country, folk, and americana it is not specifically religious in lyrical focus, only giving respectful recognition to spirituality as defined by the individual. New solid musical genres don’t emerge everyday so it will be fun to see if this one survives and thrives. And along the way we can enjoy some great sounds like “President’s Song”.

What’s in a Name

I had a nice walk today with my sons at the UK Arboretum. While overcast the temperature was much more tolerable than what we’ve experienced of late and a nice cool breeze blew most of our walk. I had my camera with me of course and managed to get a few decent shots which I’ll be posting over the coming days on my photo blog. One plant in particular caught my eye because of its unusual shape and coloring. I’ve posted a pic here. Unfortunately I forgot to take note of what it is called. I’m hoping that someone reading this may recognize the plant and know the proper name. I’m calling it “flower doodle” for now though I’m fairly certain that is not correct. It may be obvious to most but while I appreciate the beauty of plants I know virtually nothing about them.

I recorded our 1.2 mile walk and published the map from my phone.

View 2011-06-12 11:30 in a larger map

Technorati Tags: flowers,photos,nature,UK Aboretum
