Social Tips for FNO 2011

Fashion Night Out is slowly becoming one of the most anticipated events on the fashion calendar in Jamaica. It’s that one night where a long list of selected stores have an amazing sale out on all or most of their items in stock. When you add that up you get shopping, shopping, shopping!! It’s truly a great experience. Nothing puts me in a better mood than shopping and I’m so happy when everybody else is just out there with me being thrilled by something they just bought and all excited!!! It is just absolutely Fantastic! The experience only comes around once a year and this year’s Fashion Night Out has been scheduled for September 8, 2011 from 5pm – 10pm. From previous experience the streets can get very hectic, and you can also mull around form 5pm to 10 pm and unfortunately come home empty handed. Well this year we had whipped up some foolproof tricks so that you and yours can have the ultimate experience from start to finish. Follow these tips an all you need at the end of the night is a ride home.

# 1 – Make a list of all those things you really need to get at a reduced cost. FNO is mostly about clothing outlets, however a few electronic and household outlets have joined the celebrations and this is the perfect time to get a big budget item.

#2 – Before the actual sale day arrives, browse some stores on the malls to see exactly what is available and what it costs. This way you won’t waste time going into stores that don’t have what you’re looking for. It also gives you the opportunity to figure out what can actually fit into your budget before hand or an idea of how much money you will actually need on the big day.

#3 - Time waits on no man. Be there on time. Sadly FNO only lasts for five hours so whatever you are doing can wait. It is that one day when you have the right, actually the obligation to leave work or school on time and indulge!

#4 – Figure out your transportation before hand. Personally I would not encourage anybody to drive into the chaos of really congested areas such as Downtown, Kingston or Half-Way-Tree. If your early parking shouldn’t be a problem but you just might get stuck in the mayhem and become unable to move when you need to. If you don’t need to drive you can leave the car at home or work and take a taxi the rest of the way.

#5 – Make sure you’re comfortable. It is easy to go from happy to miserable during five hours of walking around and not finding you’re size or brand in your selected store so it is wise to be as comfortable as possible. Take the jacket off after work, and pull on those flip-flops cause you’ll have a ton load of walking to do!

#6 – Baggage Counters are always an issue, they take up a lot of time getting into and coming out of stores. We suggest that you hit the mall with a really big personal bag e.g. a tote. That way you won’t have to leave it at the baggage counter and when you pick up your goodies you’ll only have one bag to be bothered with.

#7 – Make yourself accessible. If you are going out to get shoes do not wear one that has ten buckles and a lace. If you’re going to get clothes do not wear a ten-button shirt, a vest, a pants, and a scarf. Wear things that will allow your fitting process to be as simple and as quick as possible.

#8 – Be aware. Among all the excited people that are out there to shop there are also some that are there to partake of the cash in your pockets. Keep your money and other valuables such as phones in areas that are always in your sight or can be easily brought to your attention if somebody were to make contact with it. We don’t recommend that you travel with large sums of cash. Most stores accept credit and debit cards, it’s a much safer to utilize these methods.

#9- Be street smart. It is the night of deals but do not believe every deal that the man on the corner offers you. Stick to legitimate stores or open areas where items are actually and obviously on sale. Have all items brought to you and do not be led away to unknown areas.

#10 – Don’t be afraid to browse and get something you didn’t exactly plan for. So after the big budget, if you can, then leave a little room for something you probably don’t need. The night should be fun. Splurge a little………. Or alot!

Churning out hits such as Kartel's Beyonce Wine on the 'Side Walk University' rhythm and Nah Climb on the Americk rhythm as well as Lady Saw's 'Beg you some money nuh' on their Summer Bounce rhythm, Jam 2 Productions has come to be associated with quality dancehall productions.Having worked with some of the biggest names in dancehall such as Vybz Kartel, Lady Saw, Sean Paul, Anthony B, they have rightfully earned their respect and confirmed their relevance in little over ten years. Among their catalog of productions are Sugar Cane Rhythm, New Moment rhythm, Pull up rhythm, and Splash Out rhythm just to name a few. More Recently (2011) they have released both Ska and Action rhythm which features quite a few young talents such as Keda, Lisa Hyper, and Khago.

A: A bit over 11years

Q: Of all the things you wanted to do why did you choose music?
A: Music allows us to express ourselves freely, It's what comes to us naturally without any extensive thought process, we find it very fulfilling, exciting and it keeps us very happy and well accomplished after every unique project.

Q: Do you believe that music impacts the society to the extent that critics say it does?
A: Well, if the critics are talking about it and even going as far as to agree that it does then I guess the answer to this question would already be... Yes! We do believe that music has a very big impact on society.

Q: Dancehall is undoubtedly a very raw brand of music. Do you think that that element of dancehall needs to be curbed?
A: We think if its raw, why curb it? But in a business world where record sales is the objective, we do think that curbing the sound of raw dancehall in order for it to reach a broader market and audience wouldn't be such a bad idea, it would more help to cross our sound and our culture.

Q: Ten, twenty years down the line, if people were to use one word to describe your music what would you want that to be?
A: "FIRE!!!!!"

Q: Apart from dancehall what genre of music do you listen to the most?
A: We listen to everything but we do enjoy Hip-Hop and and a few Pop Records

Q: What does the Jam 2Productions team do when they’re not doing music?
A: We spend time with our families and we try to enjoy a few party scenes "Chug It" is one of our favorite events.

Q: If I could give you a three-day vacation pass for anywhere in Jamaica where would you go?
A: Hedonism II or Breezes Resorts

Q: How important is image to you and why?
A: Image is everything to us! It is very, very important... we take our image thing very seriously because it ties us in even more with our fans and the general public, and it also gives us a sense of pride and it makes us feel confident when heading out on the road to take on the next job. People tend to respect you more based on how you carry yourself.

SOCiAL Advice: Crop it Out!

This pic has been up and around on blackberry messenger profiles and it probably surfaced somewhere on the internet. It is popular because it resonates with us. Its message is simple: focus on what’s important. And invariably what should be most important to each of us is our own selves.

We all come to points in our lives where we feel we need to make drastic change. Not only is this normal, it is necessary and admirable. The capacity to improve (especially dramatically) is one of those things that separate human beings from animals. What is detestable is maintaining unhealthy relationships or practices for whatever excuses.

People
It has been said to think hard when choosing friends and harder when letting them go. I second that but when the time comes to let someone go, you know. So let him/her go.

Clutter
Items can clutter your space making it harder for you to keep things neat or even to find things. Hold on to the sentimental ones if you have to but dump the junk like spam.

Habits
Habits are much harder to get rid of than most other things but once they go you’re always better off for it. It may be as serious as smoking or less so, like biting your nails. Man up! Break it! And reward yourself when you take real steps towards improvement.

Fashion
You bought it but then outgrew it, or it came out of style. Perhaps you lost or gained a few pounds. Whatever the reason, you know that item because every time you put it on you take it off immediately. Wardrobe purge and sell, dump or give it away to the less fortunate. Someone needs it more than you and it is taking up very useful space in your closet.

Now that you’re free, replace the bad of the past with some good: new hobbies, new friends, a little binging on a summer sale.

Just wrap it up with a positive attitude.

SOCiAL Trend: NEONS

This is probably my favourite time of year. Even if you have work or school there is just something that's so much more relaxed than Januarys or Septembers. Blue skies, a big bright sun, little kisses from the wind...... oh boy I Love Summers!!

Summers for me inspire a sense of boldness and reckless abandon that I don't have all year round. This summer I'm daring people to look at me, daring myself to stand out in a crowd for one reason or another. My first approach to this? Through my clothes.... and what better way to separate yourself than to invite Neon Shades into your closet.

It embodies the life of summer. The reds, the blues, the yellows, the pinks, all done ultra bright captures the essence of everything around you. It says your ready to go out an enjoy yourself, regardless of what anybody else thinks. I don't know about anybody else but my outfit influences or reflects my mood for the day. The excitement of the outfit stimulates you and urges you to carry that energy throughout the day. Why would you not want that little beat in your system?

Most trends can be tweaked here and there to suit everyone; THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE. Neons are obvious, spunky and playful without losing its edge. But before you step into the Neon domain boost your attitude. When you get to an event dressed in neon colors your saying 'I'm here. Take note.' You wont be stepping into the spotlight, at this point you are the spotlight. If you are not ready to step out into a crowd and be confident and leave an impression don't do it. If you cannot deal with the stares and maybe even some glares, leave it alone.

Because the colour is bold and beckoning you don't have to do much guesswork when you buy your item. Neon pieces are usually kept simple and to the point. What people will remember most about your outfit will be the fact that you did a neon shirt or dress. It'll be pretty hard for them to get over that bridge before they can even try to remember the rest. If you don't feel ready to do a very obvious item try shades for starters or maybe something dark like black shoes with a neon rim. Whatever is within your comfort zone......

On second thoughts, I dare you to go all out! Step outside the social box for a few hours, it may be the purple, the pink, the yellow the orange, whichever..... just go for it! I promise you'll love every minute of it!!

What's Up: Osmosis

Jamaicans live to be entertained and Kingston is the dealer that provides us with the limitless intoxicating drug of parties that we can never get enough of. When we're at home or work from day to day we start to get restless. We fidget and itch, waiting for our fix, the sight of home or work nauseates us and then we remember, "Yes the weekend starts today = Party!!" We are a social hub for flashing lights and urban entertainment at it's best.

Most brands of parties are enough to get us out of the dump and settle our minds but there are some brands that are raw, strong, potent. People will pay top dollar for one go of it, some of the best highs you can imagine and one of those brands is OSMOSIS. Osmosis is definitely one of those events that people have on their calendars from the 1st of January. It's rare; only twice per year and party junkies, and fashion fanatics never miss the opportunity. This is truly an exquisite drug. The party is super all inclusive; from the venue, to food and drink, to the music to unedited fashion, Osmosis creates the ultimate experience.

Saturday July second was the All Star Edition of Osmosis and promoters did not fail to deliver. The venue was Fort Charles which created a perfect backdrop for the night. Let us not forget, Osmosis is a fashion playground and patrons always take their look very seriously, this year was no different. As usual they turned out in high numbers to enjoy themselves. Outfits were planned down to the thread and the ladies were almost obsessive at getting it right. Our fashion bunnies thought of it all and that in itself made the event that much better, I mean its just a much happier place when you share it with effortlessly fly people.

With food and drink on the house there was absolutely no reason why patrons would not be on cloud 9. Admittedly the night got off to a relatively slow start. I guess this was the time patrons took to meet greet and eat but the party definitely lived up to its name and at about 2:30 the experience really started to kick in with Coppershot at the helm. Everybody was in their own little bubble and it almost seemed like they were drunk off the experience.... or maybe it was all that liquor at the bar. The fusion of music, food, and liquor pumping through your veins at 180 mph definitely gives you enough adrenaline to keep you pumped and ready for your Monday morning blues.

Although unfortunately, this little escapade only lasted for a few hours it was definitely enough to string you along and have you desperately waiting for the next opportunity to live it all again. I'm sure your if you weren't there your wishing you had made it and if you were well thank you all for contributing to one of my more memorable nights of the summer. It was definitely a pleasure.

SOCiAL STYLE: Think Prints

So I’m in the party and this chick walks by and I’m like 'OMG she looks so fly!'…. I should make her the Diva of the week. And then I stop and go, 'but she only has on a simple top and a normal skirt though…..' *confused face*….. then I thought it must be the crop top, *but half the party is wearing that*….. then I realized that hers just stands out and then BY GEORGE I GOT IT!!!!! The pattern was just so billboard, Grammy, Oscars number one!!!! That’s what made her different. The colour, the direction, the texture, the pattern itself…. everything just worked for her.

From tiled prints, to animal, floral, or geometric, electric, eccentric and mind boggling exciting prints and patterns have seeped their way back into the hearts of fashion designers. There is nothing like the right print on a hot romper or button ups and it just adds that little Je ne sais quoi to the outfit. However before
you jump on any pattern binge bear in mind the most important ingredient in any outfit; YOUR BODY.

Patterns have to be chosen with common sense and a good eye, you don’t just throw on something that looks good on the hanger. Social Kingston’s Advice to you today is to think about it and below we’re going to help you to figure it out.

Size

The size of the pattern on the item should suit the body. Bigger patterns tend to drown or overwhelm smaller bodies. It may also cause a larger body to look crowded and seemingly magnify body parts. A great way to make a good pick of the patterns before you is to find one that more or less scales to your body type. If people see your top and not you in your top its probably too much. Smaller patterns may become dizzying, especially on larger bodies where more fabric and colour is utilized.

The size of the item is also an important consideration when choosing your pattern. Sometimes the smaller the item the better the pattern. This is particularly true if the pattern is very busy or extremely colourful. On the other hand a long flowing dress or a hoodie may be the perfect item to showcase the beauty of the pattern.

Colour

Patterns can be harsh on the skin. So if you know that blue generally doesn’t work with your skin tone, do not convince your self that ten different shades of blue will. It is important to choose patterns with harmonious colour schemes or one that features a colour complimenting your tone. This way you flow with the fabric and energize the piece. Men’s patterns in particular have a tendency to be very sharp and crisp which makes them bolder and more obvious. Try not to go with every color in the rainbow, especially when the colours are not from the same shade e.g pastels, earth tones, etc..

Position and Direction

Whatever you wear will always have an effect on the way your body looks. If your body is wider than you would like it to seem, don’t go for patterns that run horizontally. Bold patterns may also give a larger appearance. If you have a body part that you would rather not highlight e.g. belly, breast, DO NOT choose a pattern that skillfully places a big red rose or anchor on your belly and another that covers your left chest. Instead try smaller pattern variations that run vertically or diagonally. Better yet incorporate solids in the outfit to help mask these areas.

You should also ensure that the fabric goes with the vibe of the pattern. Some patterns will look like a dream when its flowing and while others can take the weight of heavier more inflexible materials. Just make sure that the look of the pattern connects with the feel and movement of the item.

These are only some of the factors one should consider when choosing the right pattern for their body. These are not foolproof mechanisms but they come pretty close. If all else fails just try it! More often than not the science of fabric and body construction prevails. But every now and again the chemistry between you and that one item on the rack might tip the scale in your favour.

Distinguished guests Jeff Robinson who is Alicia Keys & Letoya Luckett's manager, as well as Sean Due of Goodthyme Click (New York based Music Production Company), & Sugarhill Gang's manager Ed Albowicz were highly interested in seeing Kim Nain perform live after seeing her performance on Youtube.

Now she is taking aim at the world with new singles produced by Trench Town Kgn12 music, Jus Easy Productions, Nellie Roxx Productions, Dre Day Music and many more. She is also the hostess of two new national television shows called "Sync" and “Break it down” to be aired officially later on this year.

What's Up: Twisted Spiritz

Hey guys!

The party of the week was "twisted spiritz". It was held at caymanas polo club, which is usually a pretty nice venue. Twisted was sponsored by Smirnoff... so it was liquor inclusive with little snack bits being offered to attendees such as frankfurters and soup. In the V.I.P booth, liquor and food was inclusive, as per usual.

Unfortunaley though Twisted turned out to be a disappointment to most patrons. Some complained that the venue was too big while others say it wasn't well supported and the crowd was too small.

Patrons sipped their liquor while dancing to ZJ Johnny Kool as he gave the party some life! Other selectors that were featured were Coppershot, DJ Nicco and DJ Narity.

There were some familiar faces such as Wayne Marshall, Bling Dawg, Chris Gayle and a few others.

Although this party was lacking the party goers seemed to have had some amount of fun as they didn't start leaving the venue until about 4:00 am.

So although the name TWISTED SPIRITZ is hot unfortunately the party wasn't.
We are all keeping our fingers crossed hoping that SMIRNOFF DREAM WEEKEND TWISTED SPIRITZ on 29th july 2011 will definitely deliver this time!

Q: What is your name?

A: Gillian Natalia Patrice Francis

Q: What is your occupation?

A: I like to say I’m a creative being; I don’t like to be labeled because I do so many things apart from being a fashion designer

Q: What/who inspired you to become a fashion designer?

A: To be honest I didn’t want to become a fashion designer per se, I wanted to do music and drama but because of a low budget I always made my own clothes and people started liking it and because the music wasn’t really happening right away I got into fashion and before I knew it my friends started writing me up in the newspaper then I showcased on Dweight Peters’ show and from there it just blew up.

Q: How would you describe the type of fashion that you promote?

A: I like to say that the things that I make are timeless. I tend not to follow a fad too much but I like to make good quality. Quality is very important to me.

Q: When are you most creative?

A: I’m just always creating I wish I could just shut these voices up in my head. But when I’m most creative is like right before I fall asleep, I have to be jumping up and recording things on ma phone or writing things down its like when I’m in that phase between dream state and being awake.

Q: If you could speak through your pieces what would you say?

A: I am always dealing with love and compassion. I just really wish that people would be more compassionate to each other. I like to cater to women and I really wish my sisters were more confident. A lot of our women are not into our morals anymore, lost our sense of being, as the nurturers of humanity. I think that we need to start focusing on being more moralistic everybody needs to have a better sense of right and wrong. If people understood that what they give out they get back they tend to make better causes.

Q: What is the toughest thing about the fashion industry in Jamaica?

A: The fashion industry is tied in with business. Business in Jamaica, for small people is very hard. I think the government on both sides should be ashamed of themselves. Because its slavery all over, we are slaves. The Indians and the Chinese can come here and send back a ton of money to their country that was made off Jamaicans. These big companies jus come and rip and rape and take away from the country and don’t give back anything. The little that they give back is nothing it’s just a show to get tax incentives. While us Jamaicans, we probably bring in a likke sample and you haffi pay GCT and all these taxes. How can you survive as a businessperson? It’s ridiculous all these red tapes, they are the problem. I started exporting and when I look at it the government was earning 300% of my things, so when you export you don’t make anything off it the customs is just too much. If you are to charge it back to the customer you don’t have a business because you have to charge less so that the government can charge more so that you can make a profit so mi jus nuh bodda. Its extortion, they extort small businesses and it’s the truth whether its in the fashion industry or any other industry

Q: What is the most rewarding thing about being a fashion designer?

A: You can be independent in a sense and support yourself on a level. You don’t have to really answer to a boss and it allows you to express your creativity. And sometimes when I get to represent Jamaica that really feels good.

Q: Where can your items be found for sale?

A: Personal Sales. I don’t have them in any boutiques yet that’s what I’m working on. I have my boutique coming up, that should be open by next month for sure. And that’s in Grange Hill.

Q: What is your favorite quote?

A: As a woman thinketh so is she

Q: What characteristic about you do you admire the most?

A: I’m crazy, I love my madness, I think I’m mad and I love it. I love ma intuitive side that little mad voice any time I don’t listen to it I lose and anytime I do I always win.

Q: Where do you see your fashion career ten years from now?

A: I really want to be known internationally, and have my stuff on the red carpet and in movies and TV shows and music shows. I want everybody just know bout Minka like how every body know bout Gucci.

Q: What makes Minka, Minka?

A: Cause Minka is just Minka and there aint no other Minka… they broke the mould when they made me honey!

These tops of the moment are much more fitted and sophisticated and they literally look like you wore half your shirt out, this gives them a certain charm and personality.

Most ladies may try to shy away from wearing a crop top because
it bares the stomach, but the great thing about them is that they come in various lengths and styles. A crop top may range from showing a silver of stomach; which would fall about 2 cm above the waist line of your jeans, to baring the entire stomach.

If you are not excited about baring any thing at all you can still get in on the trend by pairing it with a camisole.

It is important that you wear your crop top the right way or you might just look like you randomly ran a pair of scissors through an already ill fitting old shirt. It is also relatively easy to have the trend look sloppy and distasteful. Don't forget to work with your body. Whether a crop top is applauded or fails depends on this fact.

Crops generally accentuate the waist. If you don't want to bring attention to that area don't forget to don a cami or choose a longer length. You could also try choosing a top that moves the focal point from the stomach e.g. embellishments on the shoulders or styling in the bust area.

A good way to start off is by ensuring that the top up to the bust area actually fits the body. Because of the very loose fit that some crops have if you get them too big you might look like you are drowning in your top.

These tops are perfect for the summer as they are light weight and limitless. The look can range from casually beach to the glamour of the red carpet. I can hardly imagine a single event on the social scene where you can't rock out a crop top. To capture and effortless casual cool, fitted shorts (short or mid thigh) are perfect for running around in the summer. A more subtle look may be found in pairing a longer crop with skinny's or jeggings.

For a more elegant look the most important thing is balance. By balance I mean keep the sleazy down and the classy up. The best way to do this is to limit the amount of stomach you bare. If you go for a shorter crop then you can pair it with a high waist pencil skirt or high waist wide legged pants and heels.

Cutting edge is definitely what crop tops are so don't be afraid to rock em out with jackets, lace, sequence, bold cuts or cool accessories such as hats, heavy jewellery, spikes, etc...

Whatever style you are going for I'm sure there is a crop top fit.

Society is conformity, but don’t get lost in the crowd.

Our daily life in Jamaica requires that we blend in. In pre-school, we learnt to colour within the lines, in high school they gave us uniforms, now it seems everyone wants to tell us how to walk the social tight rope. Dress this way, talk that way, don’t go there, and not dressed like that etc. While the KA Bloggers realize we may be a little guilty of that too, we realize that standing out a little may go a long way.

Rules are necessary for seamless functionality but nobody ever got anywhere just toeing the line. Of course your resume must fit certain criteria but add a splash of your favourite colour! Yes, work attire must be modest, but add your personal flair. Make every trend your own and never

apologize because your life gives you certain boundaries. You may be surprised how many times a little personality makes all the difference.

No one pays big bucks for what they can get every where else. But you'll have to remember that the extra mile is just that: extra. Make sure to meet all the requirements FIRST!

What's Up: Altitude Black & White

Hey guys!

Here's what's up for the party ALTITUDE, in case you missed it. The turn out was good as patrons danced the night away to CODE Red and Renaissance Dj, Taj. Although a few glitches were obvious, like for some reason or the other, the music stopped playing about three times, but that didn't stop thise party goers from sipping on their liquor. Liquor was in excess as there were strawberry and pineapple daiquiri, coco mania Appleton mixes, etc. A mixture of different age groups were seen and some popular faces such as Wayne Marshall, Usain Bolt, Courtney Walsh Jr, Munga.

The party was sponsored by Appleton A-team, Coco Mania, Old Spice, just to name a few. The promoting girls stood out boldly in their red dresses (Old Spice).

While most female patrons wore a sexy short dress and a pair of heels to go with it and the male patrons wore a buttoned up shirt and a jacket.

From the crowd to the energy, the liquor to the music Kingston Atitud thinks it safe to say that this black and white party "tun up".

The summer is back and 2011 fashion trends are blazing hot. Social Kingston is especially in love with the nautical trend. Nautical isn't just a color, or a stripe, or a piece of clothing it is a full on fashion world of its own. The trend is versatile and chic ranging from cool and casual to formal and sexy. This wouldn't be the first time the captain and his crew have been thrust onto the runways of New York and Paris. However this time around designers are thinking less navy and more yacht club. The signature navy blue, red, and bold stripes have evolved to create fashionable pieces that are just to die for. It is also guaranteed to give the average Jane or Joe a mysteriously sultry edge.

This fashion trend is not particularly hard to capture, however if it goes wrong, it goes SERIOUSLY wrong. But don't worry we got your back and if you stick with these grounds rules you'll be turning heads all day:

The Stripes

The easiest way to go nautical is through stripes particularly navy blue or black stripes. Do not over stripe. Incorporating stripes can be as simple as a scarf, a pocket or accessories. If you opt for a large stripe item e.g. a dress or jacket, solid pieces are your best bet at avoiding cheesy.

Keep it Trendy

There is no need to confine yourself, mix it up play with some colors and incorporate other trends. For men, pants cut a little before the ankle or rolled to that point paired with loafers without socks are definite do's to get that laid back look. Bright colors also add some edge and keeps you interesting to the eye

Little striped dresses for women are casually sweet but for a more trendy look don shades, accessories or heels to keep it modern.

Nautical can be done without stripes!

Nautical is more than the fresh clean stripes from the ship, its a feel, a totally different attitude which is best captured as sophisticated but easy going.

Who hasn't been to Scotchie's yet?

They've been around for a some time and to me and my friends, they are the perfect stop for a quick, inexpensive meal. Two to ten of us will stop by. We may be staying to eat or we may be on the way to somewhere else. Our orders will range from (my favorite) the jerk pork to chicken, sausage or fish. We get our meal and then it's siting, chatting, laughing and finger-licking.

With their spicy house sauce always piled on high, sometimes there may even be a little tearing up.

What I love most about Scotchie's, New Kingston is the ambience. The rustic setting is inviting, cozy, but functional.

It works for the rainy season or warmer times. Named gazeebos are surrounded by variety of indigenous Jamaican foliage.

At the thatched roof bar, you can sit and order your meal or just grab a beer and watch a game on a Friday evening. I've heard dominoes knocking tables and seen big families sharing an afternoon retreat. I mean seriously, who hasn't been to Scotchie's yet? Who hasn't sighed to turn up and hear their favorite dish is finished or isn't ready?

Scotchies reps everything Kingston Atitud reveres, traditional Jamaica meeting urban innovation. We give it a whopping 4 stars.

So you're going to hit the club with your honey or your boys and you pull on your jeans grab a graphic tee or a party shirt but something just doesn’t feel quite right. You try turning it up a notch so you go for a more pronounced piece of jewellery or maybe that brand new pair of converse… mmmmmm, still not working?

Well a reoccurring trend that can definitely super swag your outfit is a vest. SOCiAL Kingston recommends at least one solid black vest in every man’s closet. A vest can be used to dress up any plain old t-shirt and jeans duo. If your tee is really graphic or busy go for a solid that brings out or compliments the general tone of the shirt. The vest may also be used to tone down certain plaids or patterns and tie the entire outfit together. If you are planning on wearing a subtler shirt then you can dare to be bold. Try going for a statement vest; bright colours, patterns, two-toned, embellished, whatever factually works with the outfit. Just remember, if you go for this type of vest try and make it the focal point of the outfit, don’t have everybody in the club dizzy from watching you move.
