i already mentioned the benefits in a detailed way.
summarizing i have to say:
for me there are fast and easy ways of comming and staying in contact, publishing, sharing, learning and studying,... i really like filming as well privatly as a kind of ducumentation of my projects and i've had a lot of fun!

the time factor

there are a lot of useful aspects about social media, blogging and online video, but i think we should be careful with the time we spend on it. some aspects can make communication and work faster and easier, but too much of it can cost a lot of time.
blogging is a fast and easy way of publishing, and it's nice to have some kind of diary, and it's nice to share photos or videos, of course it's nice to watch them and it's nice to talk to other people.
but when we have too much blogs, when we have to watch too many pictures or videos, when we always can be contacted... anyway - when we don't find out the point when it's not useful anymore, then it becomes an annoying and stressful waste of time.

i already mentioned that i've never made a video before. i was really afraid of the post-production. now i have to say it's not easy, but there is no need to be afraid ;) with a little help from my friends i've learned some basics - and i like it so much! just to cut the video and to use some music improves the video a lot (in my view...).
my work benefits and it's also a lot of fun. former i didn't know what to film, i thought the quality is too bad and it seemed to be pointless. but i could overcome my inhibitions.
now i know how to improve the documentation of my projects and it's really a lot of fun to film my friends and family... i'm not sure if i'm going to share the videos on facebook ;) but i'm going on filming...

i've started to like blogging. for me it's an easy way of publishing. it's official but common. you don't have to have a lot to say, you just do it like YOU want. i like that there are no rules how to do it - it's up to you!
former i didn't think about that - if it's good or bad. but now i can see a benefit. and i see why it could be useful for me. i'm sure that i'll create a portfolio blog. the application for my experience semester in summer should benefit from it. and my work can benefit from it, too. it's always good for a project to get to the heart of it. and of course to share it. as a designer you always have to present your work and i think a blog is a good way to start that.

during this course i've set up more accounts than during the last 26 years. that sounds amazing? weird? well, not for me. i've been a very careful user and the world wide web has never been a big playground for me, but a tool. i use what i need.
that's why this course was very interesting for me. i found new, useful and interesting aspects. i learned and found out what the benefit of the one or other aspect could be for me, or for others - and that the internet can be a big playground... sometimes ;)

the first and the second life

first i have to admit that i didn't sign up to second life or any comparable virtual world, i don't want to do it and i'm not going to do it. But i informed myself about this world.
i really cannot understand the fact, that there are so many people who spend so much time and energy on this virtual world. i wonder why they don't spend all this time and energy on the real world - on altering their real life for the better? and why do they want to have a second life? i could imagine that they want to be better, more successful, more pwerful,.. but if they don't like their first life they should concentrate on this all the more! you ARE still in the real world when you switch off the computer. so you should work on your REAL life. go out and discover the REAL world! it is not created by humans and that's why there's always more to discover. and when i think about my profession, why should i want to design a virtual world? i want to design the real world!
nevertheless i have to add, that the virtual life could be a chance for those who aren't able to live the real life outside. those can easily come into contact with others, go to school, to parties,... i like this idea and it's a great chance.
but i still don't want to be a part of second life and i don't want second life to be a part of me.

first i have to say that my facebook account is now about 4 weeks old. as long as i studied in germany, there was no need to have a facebook account. i had accounts on 2 german platforms. now i have 3 accounts and i think i will delete at least one of the german accounts. who needs 3 accounts? nobody. but do you delete an account you don't need anymore? no? why not? are you afraid of missing something? or are you just too lazy, like me?
for the moment i don't think about deleting all the accounts because the benefit is clear: it's easy and cheap to come in contact with my friends. of course it's also important to come in contact with my classmates, for chatting and also working, but i don't want to mix up private and professional contacts. i prefer to separate that. i think it's more serious to come in contact via a professional blog or an email.
of course there are people who upload private pictures as well as professionell pictures. at last it's up to you what, when and how you want to tell the world wide web about you. but there will always be some questions: what do i want to share with other people via facebook? what is sensible to share? what is too intim even impious or too important? and what can, what do we believe?

my facebook account is now two weeks old. i joined because of all the exchange students and had an account on a german platform before.
