What it shows is that our profession is both not very recognized, publicized or utilized! In it, they state:

The missing group here is alms experts: we have no strong profession of those who specialize in helping the poor, crippled, etc.

I'm sorry, but is that not us? My theory is that a majority of social workers with the skills to work at the top not only don't see that they have those skills, but undervalue the title of social worker. If they're working at the top levels, they damn well don't call themselves social workers.

The first one is of interest to me because the author of the blog, Malcolm Payne, wrote (or edited) one of my early social work texts, so that's kind of exciting! Anyways, here it is:

Social Work and End of Life Care
The other blog is concerning Social Work and Social Media. You can find it here:
Working with men has its own difficulties. Anyone else out there have a blog that deals with working with men specifically?

Here it is: http://www.leestevens.dk/Blog.html
The tragedy is that there are a number of new blogs every day popping up that I'm missing. I wish I could give more time to this, as it's very important. Anyways, I've gathered some links that have come through comments to distribute to you all. Enjoy!

hownottodosocialwork
No Miracles Here

The last is what looks like a social networking site for social workers. That just blew my mind! Anyways, you can find it at:

http://socialworkhelper.com/

Enjoy!

Also, buy books through here through the Amazon links, let people know about this site and donate to help me out so I can devote more time to this! Some blogs that haven't been updated in two years are gone, as are blogs that have gone protected or have simply disappeared. There are a few new blogs being added that are listed below. I hope you find some new content that you like and, as always, pass along any new blogs you find!

Social Work World Blog
Social (Over)worker
ladybird, ladybird fly away home

Also, I was introduced to a great tool that's been really helpful in my personal life and work. Some of you may already have it, but it's called Dropbox and it's extremely useful in accessing documents, pictures and other files from multiple computers. It allows you to backup files, share them and transport them without a problem. If you sign up using the link provided, you (and I) will be also get a little bit more storage than if you sign up by going there yourself.

Give it a shot today and let me know how you like it! HERE IS THE LINK.

As always, if you know of any blogs that are out there, but not listed here, please let me know and I'll get them up as soon as possible.

Four New Blogs

Here are four more new Social Work blogs. The neglect has been piling up and becoming really visible! Many of the blogs have been put in the appropriate places and many dead or protected blogs have been removed. It's really a shame, as I remember some of them as having some excellent content, but c'est la vie!

Anyways, a series of new blogs are on their way.

As always, your help in promoting the blog helps us run smoother. Whether it be Facebook, Twitter or personally emailing our address to someone you think would enjoy it is always helpful. As well, you can support the site through donations (located at the bottom of the page) or by purchasing books through our Amazon links. The other way to support us is through emailing us links to new social work bloggers! New content helps everyone grow!

I'll try to keep on top of things so next spring cleaning is not so hectic! Thank you for your continuing support. :)

Life Happens

Social Work Blogs is a team of few, and with that comes some uncertainty.
I received an email from a blogger who is wanting to start a Social Work Blog Carnival. I have no experience with these, so I'll let their words speak for them!

Many bloggers have probably heard of the concept of a blog Carnival, but just to clarify, it is a sort of online magazine on a specific theme which is made up of contributions from those who blog on that theme. The carnival is generally hosted by different blogs each month and provides links to each.

I am looking to get a social work blog carnival going. I am thinking that I'll leave the theme of the first edition open in order to solicit more interest. It should be related to social work, but doesn't necessarily need to be by a social worker. It can be from a child and youth care worker, addictions treatment, research, etc. As long as it relates to social work and/or the helping process.

http://funcass.blogspot.com/2010/12/social-work-blog-carnival-call-for.html

I think this is a great idea and will support it as best as I can. I urge you to contribute what you can to the carnival and get it rolling. There are a LOT of great Social Work bloggers out there, so make your voice heard!

Post of the Week/Month, etc...

When I happen upon a good or great post, I can't help but plug it where I can, whether that be here, a social networking site or emailing it to a few friends. I'm not sure how I missed this, but Harlow's Monkey is retiring her blog. It seems that life has caught up with this blogger. Anyways, it's an important blog and I hope that you'll go check it out for some great content.

However, the blogger will still be posting at her professional blog HERE.

A Social Work Blogs Wordle

I thought it might be interesting to take all the names of the blogs that are listed in this directory and create a Wordle cloud. I thought there might be something unique and interesting in there. It was not to be. It's what you would expect. :)

It's actually a little bit more interesting if some of the expected words are removed.

Having spun through a few of them, I see that many have turned into personal blogs. While a certain amount of personal information is important in a social work blog, I think having it purely personal takes away from the purpose of the site. Well, that's in the future anyways. As for now, I have a few new blogs to add that I've just been perusing. There's some good stuff here. :)

The Social Cynic

Social Worker in the South

The Nudge Patrol

Social Work Career Transition

Virtual Connections

If you know of other bloggers that I have missed, please leave a comment with a link, or email me. As well, you can help promote Social Work Blogs by liking us on Facebook, or using any of the other social networking sites to promote us. As well, you can make a monetary contribution to help us grow by using the Paypal link on the bottom of the page.
At least a few of them. :p Anyways, the title of the post says it all. I'm always thankful for the emails and comments suggesting new blogs, as well as showing appreciation. I've put a bit of work into this blog, and while it's not as much as I'd like to be able to do, it definitely serves its purpose! So again, thanks. :)

Anyways, here's the blogs.

SocialJerk

Social Work Tech Blog

Wannabe Forensic Social Worker

I'm adding this last one even though there haven't been updates since July. There are only a few posts, but the writing is decent, and if enough of us go there to harass the blogger, maybe they'll start up again! I always love the prison social worker perspective...

A Blog for Friday!

Enjoy the new blog(s)!
