Facebook Bans Web 2.0 Suicide Machine

If you haven't heard of Web 2.0 Suicide Machine, here is a description from their about page

Liberate your newbie friends with a Web2.0 suicide! This machine lets you delete all your energy sucking social-networking profiles, kill your fake virtual friends, and completely do away with your Web2.0 alterego. The machine is just a metaphor for the website which moddr_ is hosting; the belly of the beast where the web2.0 suicide scripts are maintained. Our service currently runs with Facebook, Myspace, Twitter and LinkedIn! Commit NOW!

Basically it's a service that lets you wipe out any traces that you may have left on the web. Your late night party pictures on Flickr to dirty tweets that you tweeted while you were drunk, everything gone. But after users started removing their traces and friends from Facebook, it seems like Facebook had to put a stop to this mass suicide attempt. This comes not long after Facebook banned the "Burger King" app that suggested you drop friends to win a free burger.

We'll see how this all pans out. As for now, it seems like Facebook has put a stop to the so called "internet suicide" attempts.

The Reason Most Businesses Fail To Utilize Social Media

There is a reason why many end up shouting at the top of their lungs and ask - How do I measure ROI? How do I know this form of marketing is working for me? The answer to that question is quite simple.

Many businesses dive into social media just cause everyone else is on board. If our competitor has a Facebook fanpage, we should have it too, that's their mentality. Well, that's a wrong mentality and a good way to pave a path to "nothingness." The no.1 reason these businesses fail to recognize the potential of the social web is because they don't know what they want out of it.

Are you looking to build a community of existing customers and turn them into evangelits for your products? Are you looking to tap into a new demography that has yet to be explored? Are you simply looking into creating more buzz for your brand for long term commitments between you and your potential customers? Or, are you thinking of using social media tools to boost sales directly right as you jump in?

These questions needs to be answered and there needs to be a goal in place before you can get the most out of the social web.
You can't measure ROI if you don't exactly know what you expect for a return! Before you dive into Facebook, join Twitter, start blogging, join forums, start commenting, create focus groups, share pictures on Flickr, maintain professional relationship on LinkedIn, your business needs to answer the no.1 question - What do we want out of it and who do we want to reach?
Share your thoughts.
