Yahoo CEO Marrissa Mayer is expected to officially announce the deal tomorrow at a media event in New York City. Not only will the purchase give Yahoo a rich blogging platform, it will acquire a large user base of young users that may be key to making the company cool again.

The app also allows you to keep up to date with notifications for mentions, DMs and tweets from users whom you’ve turned on notifications for. You can reply, retweet and favourite within the app.

We assume you can reply by speaking but we haven’t got a Glass device to test this on. If so it’s quite puzzling to us that you can’t seem to tweet what you want along with a photograph instead of the default text.

This will be super handy once implanted as users won’t have to go into two separate apps to read messages. We assume this will only come to Android as we don’t think Apple allows other applications to receive SMS over the default messages app.

In a press release Pebble also announced its next step of the platform which enables two-way communication between a Pebble smartwatch and a smartphone. Called PebbleKit, the update allows third parties to develop apps that send and receive information from a connected iOS or Android smartphone. Watchapps can be made to do things such as remote controls for internet-connected devices, receieve weather or traffic information or display bitcoin prices.

The Pebble Sports API is also launching today which allows GPS fitness-tracking apps the same functionally with Pebble as Runkeeper. FreeCaddle, a GPS golf rangefinder has released a Pebble-enabled app.

Of course BlackBerry could easily jump back over Windows Phone in the next quarter, but whatever happens it must be pretty painful for BlackBerry to see a OS that is deemed to be struggling creeping on their turf.

Android and iOS on the other hand take up the rest of the market. Android taking 75 percent of all smartphones and iOS devices taking 17.3 percent. However we must remember that iOS is exclusive to Apple devices so it won’t have the marketshare penetration of Android, however Apple still remains the most profitable smartphone manufacturer.
