Sitting in a quiet corner of the Baguette Cafe in Las Vegas, NV I sip a cola that is truly worth of our highest rating here on Soda Pop Reviews. I wholeheartedly give Virgil’s Real Cola the rating of “Case” and here’s why…

Presentation: You really can’t go wrong with a Virgil’s soda pop bottle. Their styling is practically angellic, and if these new labels are any indication they’re poised to get even more heavenly.

Burpability: Drink it down fast and you’ll echo the consequences. Sip this proper soda nice & slow like a proper cola should be sipped and you’ll be treated to a silky smooth soda pop without an unneeded punch.

Aftertaste: A rich, full cola flavor that really stands on it’s own in terms of uniqueness and great taste.

Thought Bubbles: Virgil’s Real Cola is fantastic. Oliver, the owner at the Baguette Cafe made it a point to say, “I love that soda!” when I grabbed one out of the cooler. And, any guy who runs an establishment where the wifi password is “BestDayEver” knows a thing or two about a good thing or two

Pennsylvania Punch

Presentation: Sort of old-fashioned, this soda pops hints at what might be a nostalgic sort of flavor.

Burpability: Carbonation levels are moderate and the flavor is too so you can guzzle this one and belt out a good tune if you feel so inclined.

Aftertaste: Grape. Not much else.

Thought Bubbles: I was hoping for more of a varied, fruit punch flavor but Pennsylvania Punch is pretty much a mild grape soda. Not bad, not great. Just an average grape-flavored soda that I’d drink again but wouldn’t seek out as a regular beverage.

Raspberry Soda from @HotLipsSoda

Presentation: When the actual source of the flavor (in this case raspberries) proceeds the sweetener (cane sugar), you’ve got my attention.

Burpability: While this soda is plenty carbonated, the thick, rich flavor leads the drinker to a slow, steady pace and keeps backtalk to a minimum.

Aftertaste: Raspberries. Real raspberries. Need I say more?

Thought Bubbles: While some folks don’t agree, I think that soft drinks like raspberry and boysenberry from HotLips Soda are exactly what soda pop is all about. Real natural fruit used in larger quantities than sugar? Excellent. Visibly tasty pieces of raspberry in the bottle? Awesome. A rich, full flavor in every sip? Perfect. I want a case of this soda pop on my shelf at all times.

Raspberry Lime Rickey from AJ Stephans

Presentation: The label on this soft drink confused me thoroughly. What’s a Lime Rickey, and what does it have to do with raspberry? Its been around since 1926 so someone must know…

Burpability: This is one soda that will keep your belly talking.

Aftertaste: A tasty raspberry aftertaste will greet you after sipping this beverage.

Thought Bubbles: I was pleasantly surprised by AJ Stephens Raspberry Lime Rickey, even though I’m still not quite sure what I was drinking. A great berry flavor with plenty of carbonation, this soda pop is one I’ll be having again soon.

Route 66 Lime Soda

Presentation: Cool logo, printing directly on the bottle, a little historical Route 66 fact on the back…all signs point to a good soda pop experience.

Burpability: This one is somewhat flat tasting. Really limited carbonation in the bottle I drank.

Aftertaste: Ever had one of those Otter Pop popsicles in the plastic wrapper? Yeah, kind of like that without the frozen.

Thought Bubbles: The lime flavor in this one is overly sweet and candy-like. I’m pretty sure little kids would love this since it tastes kind of like those sugariffic Otter Pop frozen treats. Sadly, I’m no longer a kid and didn’t finish the whole bottle of Route 66 Lime Soda.

Presentation: Its got a cool pink color and has a dancing hula girl. What’s not to like?

Burpability: Plenty of bubbles to get the day started with a bang.

Aftertaste: A mysterious fruity flavor follows sips of this tasty beverage. Can’t quite put my finger on the exact source of the flavor though…

Thought Bubbles: From top to bottom this soda pop is fantastic. Cool bottle cap, nice color, nifty logo, and great taste — all in all a soda you should definitely keep cooling in your fridge at all times.

Jeff’s Chocolate Soda

Presentation: The dark brown bottle & label certainly suggest a drink chock full of chocolately goodness and old soda fountain style. Will it live up to the branding?

Burpability: The cream is so thick in this one that it sort of counter balances the carbonation.

Aftertaste: Root beer. Really? Yup. After a mouthful of chocolate flavor you’re left with a taste resembling one of those root beer hard candies.

Thought Bubbles: I love chocolate. LOVE it. I don’t love this soda. There was just enough of a chocolate hint to keep me interested until I hit that root beer hard candy aftertaste. Not a good combination of flavors at all. Bummer.

Bundaberg Root Beer

Presentation: Direct from Australia comes a root beer in a funny little bottle that’s big on taste. The bottle is short & squatty, the tabbed pop top is unique, and the label is pretty darn cool.

Burpability: The carbonation in this one is just right. Not too much, not too little. One of the smoothest root beers I’ve ever tasted.

Aftertaste: Its sharp, its distinct, and its not exactly easy to describe. The combination of ginger, sarsaparilla, and licorice root all display hints of themselves in this aftertaste.

Thought Bubbles: Without a doubt one of the best root beers I’ve ever tasted, Bundaberg is a top-notch soda pop. If you can get your hands on a bottle, pull the tab top off and enjoy a cool, frothy root beer that’s in a class all its own.

Ouzon Ouzo Flavored Soa

Presentation: The bottle isn’t much to look at and about all the information you get about the soda is the fact that it has no alcohol. Beyond that, its up to us to figure out.

Burpability: This is the single most heavily carbonated beverage I’ve ever seen. It was like champagne, once you opened the bottle the bubbles never stopped.

Aftertaste: Air…is that an aftertaste? There was a hint of licorice type flavor that I would expect from an ouzo style drink, but not enough for me to say “yeah, that’s ouzo all right.”

Thought Bubbles: Overall this was a really bland soda. If I did a blind taste test with Ouzon and plain seltzer water I think I’d be hard pressed to tell the difference.

Rating: Chuck it!

Presentation: Mary Jane’s Relaxing Soda sports modern looking label that looks suited for a high end nightclub, or at least a trendy oxygen bar. Here’s some of the things they say on the bottle…”Take a moment for yourself”, “Enjoy euphoric relaxation that’s all natural, plain and simple”, “Consume responsibly – limit 2 bottles per day. Excessive use or use with prescription sedatives may cause drowsiness and impair ability to operate a motor vehicle or heavy equipment”. Oh my, what do we have here…wait, its not THAT type of Mary Jane. This one is made with passionflower & kava…hold the THC.

Burpabiltiy: This one is absolutely bubbleriffic. Plenty of carbonation to lull you into that deep relaxing state you were looking for when you popped open the bottle.

Aftertaste: There’s a bit of flowery essence fluttering around a solid cola flavor after sipping this soda.

Thought Bubbles: I had no idea what to expect from Mary Jane’s Relaxing Soda. In the era of energy drinks this one comes as a welcome relief from the EXTREME beverages blasted at us from all angles. Definitely a tasty soda pop and one I’ll be drinking again soon.
