kath is having her knee surgery today. sending good wishes over to her for a healthy recovery.
this photo is of a MUCH younger kath when she had her last leg surgery. i was a much better sister back in those days, i moved her into our house and nursed her, that is when i wasn't yelling at her for getting plaster dust everywhere.
so today barry will be doing the nursing. give her a big hug for me!!!

today over at shutter sisters there is a delightful photo of two little birds. the author tells how she is obsessed with taking photos of these little finches. she poses the question is there a subject that obsesses you?
the other day kath posted her favourite photo, a sunflower. i laughed, my favourite photo subject is also a sunflower and it is true i cannot resist taking photos of those smiling faces.
i will scream "stop the car" if i spot a field of those yellow faces.
but truth be told,
i have fair number of photos of this face as well.

it is friday and traditionally on a friday night we have chicken for shabbat dinner, and if not a whole chicken than at the very least chicken soup.
who doesn't love chicken, if not for its taste then for its versatility. you can turn a chicken into a french meal, an italian meal, chinese, mexican, middle eastern, indian, practically every type of regional cooking has a good chicken recipe. and for the kids, chicken wings, chicken fingers and the every popular chicken mcnugget are sure to please.
this is one fine chicken pictured here. she's a beauty, her auburn feathers nicely streaked and i believe that lipstick is called "off with her red". she looks gorgeous don't you think, walking with determination and pride.
she is no spring chicken and neither am i. this is the birthday weekend kids. i am no spring chicken, i will be 57 on sunday.
i am looking forward to my birthday. tonight it is dinner with the kids and friends at a restaurant. sunday we are going ice fishing. yes, ice fishing. in a hut on the river. sunday afternoon, woo hoo, my saints will come marching in at the super bowl.

i was on the island of eleuthera most of the time and spent one day on harbour island.
eye candy, everywhere. why is it that only where the sun shines do people feel it is acceptable to paint their homes such beautiful colours? why do we insist on using such drab colours to match our drab weather? and dare we use the purples, greens and pinks, we are immediately labelled tacky.
is it because we have this?

So, if you were a mom and you decorated amazing cakes for not only your own kids but other people's kids, wouldn't you love it if your birthday cake had gummies and sprinkles and blue sharks? Our niece Louise sure did. She was delighted at this cake baked and decorated by her husband and kids. A cake made with love always wins.
