I2019m grateful for the opportunity to provide you with information about carpet cleaning and help you choose a carpet cleaning company.

As the owner of Belmont Clean Carpet and Upholstery Care, I have spent over 10 years cleaning textiles in the Roaring Fork Valley. I have attended numerous schools, workshops, and seminars to stay abreast of changes in carpets and fabrics. I am certified by the IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification). I also spent over a year in training with my father, Charles Belmont, founder and president of the Certified Cleaners Association. I am the only carpet cleaner with a Five-Star rating on www.EthicalServices.com (a nationwide watchdog featured on ABC's 20/20) in Aspen, Snowmass Village, Woody Creek, Basalt, Carbondale and Glenwood Springs, CO.

During my years of cleaning, I2019ve learned that carpet cleaning is the subject of much confusion. In fact, people have so many misconceptions about carpet cleaning that I decided to offer this consumer education message, so when you select a carpet cleaning company, you can make an informed, intelligent decision.

I2019m going to share with you 7 costly misconceptions about carpet cleaning. Plus, I2019ll offer 4 recommendations. And, I2019ll give you 8 questions you should ask a carpet cleaner before you invite them into your home.

MISCONCEPTION #1: You should wait as long as possible before cleaning your carpet.

ABSOLUTELY NOT! Dirt is an abrasive 2013 like sandpaper. Every time you step on the carpet, you grind dirt into your carpet fibers. This cuts your carpet, just as if you had used a knife, causing it to wear out faster. A soiled carpet will not last nearly as long as a clean carpet. And while vacuuming helps 2013 by itself, it2019s simply not enough. The longer you wait to have your carpet cleaned, the more damage you do to your carpet and the faster it wears out.

MISCONCEPTION #2: The only reason to clean carpets is to remove the soil and improve the appearance.

NOT TRUE! As you probably know, outdoor air contains pollens, fungus, bacteria, air pollution, cigarette smoke, car exhaust 2013 and hundreds of other harmful chemicals. When you and your family members come into your home, you carry those pollens and chemicals in your hair and on your skin, clothing, and shoes. Not surprisingly, all those chemicals, pollens and bacteria end up 2013 you guessed it 2013 in your carpet.

Carpet cleaning is not just about removing soil and improving the appearance of your home. It2019s about protecting your family and safeguarding their health by removing pollutants and contaminants that can affect your quality of life. In some instances, INDOOR AIR QUALITY can be 70-100 times more polluted than outdoor air. Since carpet is the lowest and largest horizontal surface, it acts as a 201Csink201D or filter, which needs to be emptied and cleaned regularly.

Another factor to consider is that carpet fibers are made to hide and camouflage soil and debris. So, by the time you can see evidence of soiling, your carpet is already overdue for a cleaning. Naturally, some colors do a better job of hiding soil than others. For example, earth tone colors (browns) do a beautiful job of hiding soil, so you cannot depend on appearance as a basis for deciding when it is time to clean your carpets.

MISCONCEPTION #3: ONE METHOD OF CARPET CLEANING IS AS GOOD AS ANOTHER!

No. In fact different carpet cleaning companies use VERY different systems, and many of them can cause soil to reappear soon after they have been cleaned, and can permanently damage your carpet and upholstery!

Here are the most common methods:

The first one uses a water-based dry foam, which is applied to the carpet, allowed to dry, and then simply vacuumed. Can you imagine applying shampoo to your hair, allowing it to dry and then removing the shampoo from your head with a vacuum? This method can leave a tremendous amount of soapy residue in your carpet, and it doesn2019t provide adequate agitation to clean and lift the carpet fibers, making it an un-effective way to clean.

The second method uses carbonated water to try to float dirt to the surface. Carpets need to be deep cleaned with an effective cleaner and a thorough system, and effervescent bubbles simply do not provide a thorough cleaning.

Third, the dry-compound method spreads an absorbent mixture that looks like wet sawdust all over your carpeting. Then a machine brushes the mixture into the carpet, which in theory causes dirt to absorb into the mixture. When the mixture has dried, a vacuum cleaner sucks the material out of the carpeting. In a cut pile or berber carpet, it is impossible to vacuum it all out, leaving both the cleaning compound and soil in the carpets.

The fourth method is called steam cleaning. This is a quick, one-step process where boiling temperature water, loaded with soap, is injected into the carpet at 400 pounds of pressure per square inch. This carries soapy water through the carpet, and often through the carpet pad and into the sub-floor. It can take literally days for the soaked carpet to dry out, which can cause mold problems. Also, the extremely hot temperature of the water can soften the glue in the carpet backing, causing the fibers to permanently distort, and the combination of moisture and temperature can shrink the carpet away from the walls, or stretch it, leaving ripples and causing permanent damage. Pre-vacuuming is usually left out, it doesn2019t afford adequate agitation, and the soap residue left in the fibers attracts the spots and traffic lanes right back to where they were before! Within a few weeks, it can look like your carpet was never cleaned, and over time it can ruin your carpet.

In summary, the reason why none of these methods are effective, is because they are lacking 4 important elements of a proper cleaning: (1) they leave a residue to attract soil, (2) they don2019t pre-vacuum, (3) they use too little or too much moisture, and (4) they don2019t agitate the carpet fibers enough to clean and restore them to a healthy pile.

The last method is a Five-step low-moisture process.

First, the carpet is pre-vacuumed with a 3hp commercial extractor and pile lifter. Scientific studies show that 70-75% of all the soil, allergens and foreign objects in carpeting can be removed with a professional vacuum, making this a critical step for a thorough cleaning.

Next, an environmentally friendly cleaner that contains no soaps, bleaches or caustics2014thus leaving no harmful residue to attract more soil2014is gently applied to the carpet fibers, allowing it to penetrate to the base of the carpet pile. The cleaner is 100% safe for you, for your carpets and for the environment, and because it doesn2019t leave any residue, the cleaning will last 3 to 4 times as long!

Third, a rotary floor machine with a nylon brush (or a softer brush for wool and other delicate carpet fibers) is used to clean all four sides of the carpet fibers. This breaks up stubborn spots, liquefies any remaining soil or bacteria, and lifts the carpet knap back up to its original condition.

Once the soil has been liquefied, special cotton bonnets are used on the floor machine to absorb and thoroughly remove the liquefied soil, leaving the carpets fibers clean, healthy and beautiful.

The last step is to groom the carpet by hand with a pile lifting brush, leaving all the fibers lifted up in one direction. This helps the carpet to dry in just a few hours and leaves the carpet like new again.

Without question, the most effective way to clean carpeting is with a five-step, low-moisture, no residue system. It2019s the most effective cleaning method on the market and the only method that thoroughly removes dirt, harmful bacteria, fungus, chemicals, pollens and other residues, while restoring the carpet fibers to their original condition. This is the method my company uses.

MISCONCEPTION #4: ALL METHODS OF CARPET CLEANING ARE GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT.

Unfortunately, no. There are three important factors that make a system environmentally friendly: one, the equipment must be powered by clean energy; two, the cleaning solution must be certified as non-toxic and safe for the environment; and three, a carpet cleaner must dispose of the waste water correctly.

(1) Many carpet cleaners use machines that are petroleum powered, using diesel fuel or unleaded gasoline to run their equipment. That means that not only is your neighborhood being polluted by the exhaust from their van and equipment, which runs for the duration of the cleaning whether it2019s 1 hour or all day long, but this also adds unnecessary greenhouse gasses to the atmosphere, increasing the effects of global warming.

Other carpet cleaners use equipment that is just as powerful, but is powered by electricity, which is a cleaner and more efficient form of energy. So make sure that the company you hire uses clean energy2014electricity2014to power their equipment.

(2) Many carpet cleaners use chemicals that non-biodegradable, and are harmful to people as well as the local watershed. A cleaning solution that is Green Seal Certified is a good standard to use when making sure a chemical is environmentally friendly.

(3) It2019s unfortunate, but some companies do not dispose of their wastewater correctly. I have seen carpet cleaners on several occasions pump their wastewater right out into the street, which locally runs through the storm drains and right into the river, with no treatment. This can cause big problems for our local rivers, and there have been many occasions were carpet cleaning companies have been sued for improper wastewater disposal, resulting in fish kills and damage to the local environment. An ethical carpet cleaner will dispose of wastewater properly.

These three factors are an important part our current quality of life, as well as for that of future generations, and it2019s a high standard to which we are committed. We are one of the only carpet cleaning companies in the Roaring Fork Valley that meets all three of these criteria.

MISCONCEPTION #5: HAVING THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT IS ALL A COMPANY NEEDS TO CLEAN YOUR CARPETS PROPERLY.

Not true. Many companies hire employees that don2019t know how to use carpet cleaning equipment properly. This can result in an improper cleaning and even damage to your carpets and home furnishings. Many carpet cleaners are sued each year because of improper cleanings that resulted in damage. This is another reason why it2019s important that you choose your carpet cleaner carefully.

The best carpet cleaning companies are those that have been certified by the INSTITUTE OF INSPECTION, CLEANING, AND RESTORATION CERTIFICATION, known as the IICRC. A carpet cleaning company cannot buy this certification. The carpet cleaner must EARN the certification through study, experience, and the successful completion of formal, written examinations. Technicians who are certified by the IICRC have, in effect, earned a degree in carpet and textile cleaning, and continuing education is a must to remain certified.

The IICRC provides written credentials to the companies it certifies. So, before you choose a reputable company, ask to see written proof of the company2019s IICRC certifications.

MISCONCEPTION #6: THE COMPANY THAT OFFERS THE LOWEST PRICE IS THE COMPANY YOU SHOULD HIRE.

No. We2019ve seen so many problems arise from the lowest-bid companies that I suggest you NEVER hire a company that quotes the cheapest price. The three most common problems are:

(1): The price you see offered may not be for the services you want performed. Before you select a company, decide what you want to accomplish. If you want the technician to remove only some of the dirt, you can choose from hundreds of companies that offer low prices, poor equipment and limited knowledge.

On the other hand, if you want your carpet thoroughly cleaned 2013 if you want to remove the harmful dirt, bacteria, pollens and chemicals 2013 then you need to hire a company that uses a thorough 5-step system. This is the only way to assure that your carpet remains healthy and free from dirt, disease-causing bacteria, and harmful chemicals.

So, remember, the price you see offered may not be for the services you want performed.

(2): An inexpensive cleaning may last only a few weeks, and leave harmful chemicals in the carpet.

Most cleaners in the carpet cleaning industry (especially the ones that don2019t charge much) clean with soap and detergent-based cleaners, leaving a sticky residue in the carpet. The residue attracts soil like a magnet, and pretty soon it looks worse than before the cleaning! It2019s great business for them, because you have to hire them to clean more often, but that2019s not good for you or your carpet. It2019s a bad cycle of which there is no way out except to use a system that can break down the residue, or to replace the carpet. And since carpet is the single most expensive replaceable item in your home, you might save a few cents per square foot with a cheaper cleaning process, but it can cost you thousands of dollars in the long-run.

(3): The price you see advertised may not be the price you pay!

Many homeowners have learned that the low price they saw advertised was not the amount they were charged.

BAIT AND SWITCH is the term used to identify those who use fraudulent advertising, just to get their foot in the door. You probably know someone who has learned the hard way. Some carpet cleaner offered a cheap price 2013 usually between $3.95 and $9.95 per room 2013 and then pressured them into paying a lot more. This amounts to breaking the law.

As in all businesses and professions, the carpet cleaning industry has its share of bad apples. I take no pleasure in telling you this, but some are unethical and, sadly, a few are dishonest. By their misleading advertising and false promises, they cast a dark shadow on our entire industry.

Then you2019ll find other carpet cleaners, professionals like me, who work hard to earn your trust and respect, and to provide you with the highest amount of value.

As a way of improving our profession, I2019ve dedicated my business to educating the public. The only way you can make an intelligent decision is to have all the facts you need. This is why I2019ve written this message.

MISCONCEPTION #7: ANY HONEST CARPET CLEANING COMPANY SHOULD BE ABLE TO GIVE YOU AN EXACT PRICE OVER THE TELEPHONE.

First, honest, reputable, carpet cleaning companies usually price carpet cleaning by the square foot. So, if you2019d like me to tell you the exact cost of cleaning your carpet, I need to know the exact number of square feet that you want cleaned. To get an accurate measurement, I personally take exact measurements of the carpeted area.

You2019ll be glad to know that the carpeted area to be cleaned is not nearly as great as most people think. For example, if you want your entire home cleaned, and your home is 2000 square feet, the amount of carpeting to be cleaned might be only 1200 square feet. This is because most home measurements are outside measurements. Plus I deduct the area taken up by walls, room dividers, and the like. The result is that the actual area to be cleaned is usually only about 60% of the square footage of the home.

So, even though I can2019t give you an exact quote over the telephone, here are things I consider when quoting a price.

First, the type of carpet. Certain types of carpet are harder to clean than others. So, before I can give you a quote, I need to know the type of fiber your carpet is made from, and the specific style.

Second, the amount of soiling. Carpet that hasn2019t been cleaned for 10 years will take longer to clean than carpet that was cleaned within the last 6 months. When carpet has been neglected for any length of time, (perhaps more than 2 years) our approach to the job changes from a regular maintenance cleaning, to a more aggressive RESTORATIVE cleaning.

Third, the amount of furniture that has to be moved. If we have to move furniture, it will take us longer to clean than an empty room.

To recap, I consider the type of carpet, the amount of soiling, the maintenance history, and the amount of furniture that has to be moved. So, as you can now imagine, every quotation is different.

IF YOU2019RE THINKING ABOUT HAVING YOUR CARPETS CLEANED, I OFFER THESE 4 RECOMMENDATIONS:

RECOMMENDATION #1: Make a commitment to yourself to get your carpets cleaned. The longer they remain soiled, the sooner they2019ll wear out. Plus the longer you have to breathe all the pollens, fungus, chemicals, and dust mite droppings that reside in your carpet.

RECOMMENDATION #2: List your objectives. Do you want only the dirt removed? Or do you want the bacteria, fungus, and chemicals removed, which will require a thorough 5-step process, like I use? Do you want to work with an honest, reputable company 2013 or are you willing to risk working with the company that offers the lowest price 2013 knowing that your carpet and upholstery could be poorly cleaned and permanently damaged?

RECOMMENDATION #3: Ask questions. The way you learn about a company is to ask specific questions and listen carefully to the answers. Here are the questions I suggest you ask:

1. WHAT TYPE OF EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE TO CLEAN CARPET?
2. WHAT DOES YOUR EQUIPMENT REMOVE FROM MY CARPET?
3. DO YOU USE ANY SOAP OR DETERGENT-BASED CLEANERS, AND ARE YOUR CLEANING AGENTS GREEN SEAL CERTIFIED?
4. DOES YOUR EQUIPMENT RUN ON ELECTRICITY OR PETROLEUM, AND HOW DO YOU DISPOSE OF WASTEWATER?
5. WHAT TRAINING HAVE YOU HAD IN CLEANING CARPETS?
6. ARE YOU A MEMBER OF ETHICALSERVICES.COM?
7. ARE YOU A MEMBER OF ANY TRADE ASSOCIATIONS AND, IF SO, WHICH ONES?
8. ARE YOU CERTIFIED BY THE IICRC AND WILL YOU SHOW ME YOUR CERTIFICATE?
9. DO YOU FULLY GUARANTEE YOUR WORK?

RECOMMENDATION #4: Once you are satisfied that you2019re working with an honest, competent professional, invite them into your home and ask for a specific quotation in writing. A written quotation gives you the assurance that you know exactly what your job will cost. NO SURPRISES!

By following these four recommendations, you2019ll gain all the information you need to make an informed, intelligent decision.

I hope you found this consumer awareness message to be helpful. It is important to know your carpets, their type and the fibres used so that you can apply the best cleaning methods that can make your carpet look brand new! The only question that comes to mind is what method is needed where.

When it comes to cleaning, some people do it on their own while some find professional approach for that. If your house is heavily soiled and has not been cleaned in many years then steam cleaning will get you that deep clean you need and remove much of the heavy soils in the carpet. The only one restraint that we can analyze here is that steam cleaning can be used once in a year only and it requires an experienced technician to handle the mess. Care should also be taken that boiling hot water is not used as it affects the carpet glue.

On the other hand, when you use a buffer system, you do get a deep clean because the brush works its way into the carpet. When someone uses this type of cleaning they vacuum and rake the carpet first. Then use enzymes to eat the oil in the carpet. The shampoo they use is non-residue so it does not attract dirt. After the cleaning is done you should vacuum your carpet at least after 24-hours to remove the loose dirt. With this method, you can use it every 3 months and have your carpets always looking great.

Some manufacturers recommend cleaning the carpets or rugs yourself. By doing so, you can extend your carpet's life duration. They will last long and will look cleaner for a long time. The cleaning process starts with an awareness to prevent all those nasty things that can cause harm to your carpet. It is advisable to use house slippers or walking socked while stepping on your rugs or carpets. Wearing shoes on expensive rugs are sure to bring stains, dirt and sand particles.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/tools-and-equipment-articles/carpet-cleaning-tips-623581.html

dody_haris@yahoo.co.id (D. Unfortunately, dirt and dust begin to accumulate on your new acquisition almost the minute you have it installed or bring it home from the showroom. If you have kids or pets in the house, this process is exponentially expedited.

The good news is that with a little know-how and some preventative care, you can keep your carpet and your upholstery in top condition for many years to come. The first step to effective carpet and upholstery cleaning occurs when you make your initial purchase.
An Ounce Of Prevention Is Worth A Pound Of Cure

This old adage is invaluable to the care and cleaning of your carpet and upholstery. Regular maintenance can significantly cut down on the amount of deep cleaning you will have to do, and light, frequent cleaning can extend the life of your carpet and upholstery. Vacuum your carpet and upholstery often, and clean up spills and stains as soon as possible after they occur.

There are many good choices for stain removal that are both commercial and handmade varieties. The key is to find the proper solution for the particular substance you are trying to eliminate in your carpet or upholstery clean-up.

When Spot Cleaning Is Not Enough

When you have tried vacuuming and stain removal, and your carpet or upholstery still doesn't look clean enough, it may be time to haul out the heavy equipment. You can choose to buy or rent your own carpet and upholstery cleaner, or you can hire a professional to do the job for you. Carpet and upholstery cleaners are available for rent at a number of locations, and can be fairly inexpensive to use. Often the machine itself is the least expensive part of the process - the larger cost comes in when it is time to fill it with cleaning solutions.

Most rental systems use the steam cleaning method, where steam is used to extract dirt from the carpet fibers. It is generally considered a fairly effective means of cleaning carpets and upholstery. The only drawback to DIY machines is that they require some furniture moving and elbow grease to get the job done. Most will agree that the result is worth the effort however, when you have a cleaner carpet and upholstery for minimal cost.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/diy-articles/anyone-can-use-carpet-or-upholstery-cleaners-knowing-this-613713.html

dody_haris@yahoo.co.id (D. Whatever you end up choosing, a window treatment of curtains can not only add some color or texture to a room, but can sometimes solve problems you may have with a window as well.

There are many types of curtains to choose from. One of the most popular types is the box pleated curtain. These curtains are pre-gathered into pleats at the top of the curtain so that they always have that neat, tailored look. These can be a little more expensive than just a plain curtain, but their extra fullness can add a nice touch to your window treatment.

Another popular type of curtain is a valance. It is a short piece of fabric that only decorates the top fourth of the window. They can come in many colors and patterns, and are usually used along with blinds so that there is still a way to close the window off and still get some privacy.

Of course, curtains also play a more functional role in our home.

Curtains can also be used to completely block out light for those who want their room very dark or for those who sleep during the day. These are known as blackout curtains and they have a special liner that does not allow any light to penetrate through the curtain itself. The only light you may need to worry about may just come around the edge or top of the curtain.

Thermal curtains are a good option for saving energy. These window treatments keep the temperature more constant in the house, whether you want it warm or cool. This can save on energy costs since warm or cool air is not lost through the windows.

Thermal curtains and blackout curtains as window coverings can also make good sources for noise blockage. If you live on a noisy street, or have to sleep during the day, sometimes outside noise can be pretty disturbing. These types of curtains can be really helpful to reduce the noise level as well as the light level.

A simpler type of curtain is a cafe curtain, which you can usually find in a kitchen. These curtains are made of light material and often have decorative designs. These are the kinds of curtains you often imagine blowing in the wind in a kitchen.

Whatever type of curtains as window coverings you need, finding one that you like and that goes with your decor can sometimes be a challenge. In addition, curtains for a larger window can cost quite a bit. However, curtains are often a longer term investment since you don't usually change them every year, so find the ones that you like, and hopefully you will soon have a lovely window area to enjoy.

So remember not to base your buying decision strictly on the price. Curtains play not only an important part of your home decor but also say a lot about you. So what do your curtains say about you.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/home-improvement-articles/curtains-what-do-yours-say-about-you-507413.html

dody_haris@yahoo.co.id (D. A majority of the people uses the vacuum cleaner for the cleaning carpets however this is not sufficient enough as carpets need deep cleaning. People are very concerned when spots and spills and even pet hair soil their carpets. To revitalize the look of the carpet, reduce its wear and tear and also extending the life of the carpet we need to deep clean the carpets every twelve to eighteen months depending upon the cleaning procedures that have been recommended by the carpet manufacturer or the retailer. If a person is attempting to deep clean the carpet at home he needs to select a good carpet shampoo, and then follow the direction for its applications to the core. You should always be aware as not to use soap, laundry and dishwasher detergents or any other soap liquids or house hold cleaners. First we need to vacuum the carpets thoroughly before applying any carpet solution. Pre cleaning solutions are available as they loosen the stains and soil on the carpet before the actual cleaning process.

Deep cleaning of the carpets is not a thing that is recommended to be done at home. So the best solution is to hire professionals for these jobs. You can get in touch with your friends or family members or even the carpet retailer to find you the best professionals. Lastly you can always search the Internet to do your own search. Professionals basically use five different methods to clean the carpets each one having its own advantages and disadvantages. You should take proper advice from the professional you hire as to what would be the best method for deep cleaning your carpet.

The first method, which is, dried out removal clean-up use a porous mix, which contains particular detergents and the solvents, which are then infused in the carpet fiber with particularly planned machines. These solvents act like tiny magnets, which attract dirt, oil stains and soil from the carpet fibers. Vacuuming then removes the dirt and oil stains that have been loosened by these compounds is the best method for sturdy fibered carpets and mostly all synthetic carpets. It is also suggested for ordinary fiber like the fur and yarn, which be supposed to not be bare to extreme moisture.

The second method, which is known the dried out foam extraction method, uses foam, which has been created by a special detergent, which is applied on the carpet; this foam is worked into the carpet with machines that are specially designed for this purpose. The foam used is very much drier than a wet solution and is also very less dense, and then this foamy solution is removed by through wet vacuuming.

The third method is the Hot water extraction technique: This is known as the steam cleaning which a person can carry out at home. First you have to condition soiled areas of carpet and then make use of particularly designed hot water extraction machine in order to infuse cleaning solution in the carpet. This will help in removing and loosening of the dirt, oil stains and soil from the carpet. You should always use caution when applying this method so that the carpet does become overly saturated resulting in its discoloration due to moisture content.

The Rotary shampoo method is the classic carpet cleaning technique machine that has rotary brushes injects the cleaning solution into the carpet, which helps in loosening the soiled, and the stained surface of the carpet. Then soil is then removed by through vacuuming.

The Absorbent pad method is the last carpet-cleaning method that should not be done by un-trained people and professional help should be taken. A Specially designed machine is been used for removing the soil. This Machine has absorbent spin pads that can absorb soil from the carpet. This pad remains saturated with the cleaning solution so that no damage is occurred to the carpet pile. The pads are changed regularly so that the carpets are not soiled.

To keep the beauty of your carpet and also to add more years always check the recommendations provided by the carpet manufacturer, the cleaning equipment manufacturer and also the carpet-cleaning professionals. Your carpet should always be cleaned with the right deep cleaning method to keep its shine and beauty intact. So to preserve your carpets in long run follow the above procedures without fail.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/home-improvement-articles/the-guide-to-deep-carpet-cleaning-495708.html

dody_haris@yahoo.co.id (D. Different accessories and things that you can add to any room in order to give an extra presence and to help make it look better. Curtains are essential for any room, also, far more than a functional bits and pieces used to block light and endow solitude. Curtains are a form of window treatment and complete overall appearance of the house. These are also known as "draperies" in the US which is a piece of cloth intended to block or secure light, or drafts or water in the case of a shower curtain.

What are the curtain fabrics available in the market?

Curtains are used to give an aesthetical appeal for a room. An elegant one greatly increases the aesthetics of a room and gives an opulent look. If one cannot modishly work out for a good kind of curtain, a dirty and ill matched curtain curtains may give a room gloomy. The choice of curtains then should be given an utmost consideration. Depending on the purpose of which the curtains are being installed, fabric curtains, as the most popular window treatments may be opt to a light fabric or heavier drape, each with a differing degree of light and absorption and heat insulating qualities. Selection should also depend on the colour of the room, privacy required, how hot or cold upon want it to be and the art of light you prefer entering your room.

A wide range of fabric can be chosen when making your own curtain. A sheer or net curtain is made of translucent fabric which allows of light to be transmitted, providing a basic level of UV of protection. These are sometimes referred to as privacy curtains as during the day will allow people inside the home to see the outside view whilst preventing people outside the home from seeing directly into home. Uncoated fabrics are tightly woven fabric which is mostly opaque and provide a reasonable level of heat insulation due to tight weave fabric. Uncoated fabrics then when closed attempts to block out direct sunlight, light will still are visible through the curtain. The coated fabrics are coated with a liquefied ruber polymer in a single coat to an uncoated fabric. This fabric is considered a one pass coated fabric, often referred to as dim-out because of its ability to absorb 50-70% of a direct light source. Other parameters in choosing fabric curtains are the size of the room, the shape of the window and the colour and upholstery of the furniture.

For formal rooms, the use of fabrics like, brocade, damask, faille, silk, velvet or velveteen is recommended. If it is for informal room, you must choose from boucle, chintz, sateen, linen and sheeting. For casual, you can go with broadcloth, burlap, canvas, corduroy, denim, muslin, poplin suede cloth or tweed.

How about home-made curtains?

Curtains are used now in many homes or business to make a trend statement or to add a bit of stylish to the environment. They are regarded as decorative utility products which change the look of a room and give an expression of the room, a frame of mind. But as per requirements, curtains can be expensive and may seem not available in the market easily. In this case, home-made curtains are an advantage allowing you t splash out on more expensive curtains especially if one is very skilled and puts on a professional finish to them. You should visit craft and fabric shops to pick out the material preferred for your curtains and search for designer versions and start making your own. You can tailor the curtains to your exact requirements and will have a good option to customize them by using accessories (tie-backs, pelmets, cushion covers).

Other considerations:

A thought should be given on safety for floor length curtains when pets and children are present in the house. Make sure of your window measurement. You must decide on the length of the curtain, sill length, below sill length of floor length. The weight of the fabric will also determine the thickness of the pole.

Lining the curtains can protect it from damage due to dust, sunlight and in insulating the room.

Sunlight considerations:

Use lined window treatments, blinds or shades to protect fabrics as dark colored fabric are light and fade

Acetate often is blended with silk or cotton to make it more resistant.

Consider professionally installed film to diminish the damaging effects of the ultraviolet rays.

Washing curtains:

Don't forget to check the label for washing instructions before laundering ready-made curtains. The main purposes are to provide privacy, block sunlight and decoration.

If the window looks onto streets or sidewalks, then curtains can be used for privacy. Translucent curtains like net curtains or sheer curtains will only block sunlight partially. These types of curtains do not provide any privacy, especially at night. For privacy opaque curtains are better.

Curtains are also used for light control to prevent glare, for sleeping during the day, or watching TV etc. Opaque curtains are suited for light control. For partial light control sheer or net type curtains are better suited.

Curtains are also used for increasing the aesthetic appeal of a room. An elegant curtain greatly increases the aesthetics of a room and gives an opulent look. On the contrary dirty or ill matched curtains give a room a gloomy look. When the window looks onto a street it is better to give thought to the underside of the curtain as the curtain can be seen from outside and will dictate the appearance of the house.

Types of Curtains.

There are lots of varieties of curtains available in the market today. A few of them are:

Curtain Valance. These have deep frill fabrics framing the window and usually the curtain rod is hidden. They generally have pleated heading. The pleated headings can be decorated using braid, ribbons, tassels and trimmings.

Cascade Curtains. Cascaded curtains consist of two or more curtains hung over the window. The tiers are hung from transoms. Shirred curtains. These types of curtains have the fabric threaded through curtain rods at the top and bottom.

Tie back curtains. These curtains are gathered at the sides of the window and decoratively tied back at the lower part of the curtain with a sleeve or cord.

Cafe curtains. These are designed to cover only half of the window and are stationary. They are usually used in kitchens and bathrooms for privacy and are made form scalloped headings.

Pelmets. Pelmets are structures mounted above the windows on which the curtain rod is fixed.

The choice of curtains depends on the purpose for which the curtains are being installed. Color, fabric and style of curtain give the room a formal or informal appearance.

There are lots of decorative rods, pelmets, cordings, sleeves, beads, fringes, rings, eyelets available in the market to decorate curtains. Also a thought should be given on safety for floor length curtains when pets and children are present in the house.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/home-and-family-articles/curtains-can-decorate-either-your-window-or-your-view-31.html

dody_haris@yahoo.co.id (D. At Tracks-Direct we are taking a look at the top 10 advantages of curtains over blinds.

1) Curtains add visual elegance to a room

Where both vertical and horizontal blinds just cover the window and add very little to the look and feel of the room, curtains and their fittings add a certain style. Curtain poles come in a wide variety of styles, from simple metal curtain poles to wood effect ones. Finials (the decorative ends of the curtain poles) also come in all shapes and sizes, so you are sure to find a style that suits your room.

When open, curtains frame a window beautifully, creating a border which is lacking with blinds. Whether pulled up or to the side, blinds cover only the window, whereas curtains can hang below and to the side of the window. Tying curtains back adds a certain elegance which blinds cannot offer.

2) Curtains and curtain tracks or poles can be bent to fit a bay window

Although some vertical blinds can be bent to the shape of a bay window, a vertical blind will take away the lovely effect and leave the room looking more like an office. A curtain track or curtain pole can be made to measure and bent to suit a bay window and the curtains will once again add elegance and style. Curtain tracks are also more flexible and can be made to fit a wider range of bay windows.

3) Increased fitting flexibility

Some of today's more modern windows and patio doors open inwards leaving little space to fix. With curtain tracks that can be as small as 5mm and some that can even be recess fixed into a ceiling, this will leave plenty of room for a window or door to open inwards.

4) Curtains provide insulation

Typically blinds are thin and offer minimal heat insulation to a room. Compare this with a lovely warm set of curtains which not only keep the heat inside but also cut draughts as they can hang below the window ledge, unlike blinds which stop just above the ledge. Curtains can also be interlined with a thick material to add extra heat insulation.

5) Hand, cord or electric operation

Curtain tracks and curtain poles can be hand operated so that many different curtains can operate on one window. This allows curtains of different widths and drops to stack at different locations on the window. In addition they can also be operated as a blind with a cord to avoid handling the curtains or electrically for the extra security and a touch of luxury.

6) Easy to keep clean

Blinds can be dust traps, especially horizontal ones. As more people are suffering from asthma and dust allergies, curtains are a healthy choice, requiring little care to keep them clean and presentable. The tracks and poles need little servicing and the curtains need only be vacuumed or dry cleaned on the odd occasion.

7) Want a new look and feel?

Although white or cream blinds will fit in with most room styles and colours, they do nothing to enhance it. Curtains can blend in with your room, or can be chosen to enhance or contrast with it. Redecorating? No problem, just choose new curtains to match. Curtains can also have trimmings and contrast edges to pick out other colours within the room. Buttons can be added to pleats, cord can be added to edges or pleats as can a contrast trimming. Curtains offer a much wider scope for design.

8) Curtains can be controlled remotely

As mentioned above, electric curtain tracks can be fitted which allow you to control your curtains from the comfort of your armchair. Although it may seem like the height of laziness, there is a practical aspect to electric curtain tracks. When on holiday, people typically use automated light-switching devices but have to leave curtains or blinds half open. Electric curtains can be set to open and close at set times each day, giving the impression that someone is home. Alternatively a light sensor can be added to open and close the curtains in conjunction with the daylight hours.

9) Curtains are easy to hang

Want to change your curtains? Simply unhook them from your curtain pole, attach the hooks to your new curtains and away you go. Replacing vertical blinds can involve unhooking each blind from the next, unclipping each one carefully (the plastic is easy to snap), and then going through the whole rigmarole in reverse to put them back up. Other blinds must be removed all in one, making it easy to damage them as they are taken down or put back up.

10) Reliable and cost effective

With so many working parts or fiddly clips, blinds tend to be less reliable than curtains on a track or a pole. Combining curtains with a good, reliable curtain track or pole can be a more cost effective option; especially as curtain prices have been greatly reduced since the introduction of ready-made and express curtain making services. And if your requirements change, you can simply hang new curtains on your existing track or pole.

We hope you have found our information about the advantages of curtains over blinds useful. It just might save you thousands on the cost of new furniture!

Mistake 1 Excessive moisture can cause the growth of mold and mildew over time especially in furniture. The surface might seem dry but the padding underneath can retain water for days afterwards. Use a limited amount of water or – better yet – go with a Dallas upholstery cleaning company that leaves the furniture dry.

Mistake 2 More isn’t always better. Just because you have a big deep stain doesn’t mean you need more detergent. In fact, using more detergent will often create an even bigger problem by leaving a residue that attracts more dirt in the future.

Mistake 3 Spot stain removal. Yes, it looks great on the commercial and even seems to work for awhile but those nasty stains seem to re-appear in just a few days. It’s not your imagination! Most popular stain removals only penetrate the surface but fail to reach the source of the problem.

Mistake 4 Not knowing the pH or material type. Specialized fabrics often require specialized care to avoid discoloration or shrinkage. Make a mistake in this area and there is a high likelihood you will need a completely new sofa!

Mistake 5 Not treating upholstery. The best way to avoid ugly stains is to use an upholstery sealant that repels liquids and prevents spills from soaking into the padding. Once your furniture is completely clean ask about having it treated.

Mistake 6 Failure to vacuum and dust. Don’t allow dust to sink into the fibers of your furniture; instead, use an upholstery attachment to regularly vacuum your furniture to remove dust, mites and other pollutants.

Mistake 7 Sitting on furniture with bare skin. Even if you are completely clean, skin has natural oils that attract dust and dirt while naturally discoloring the fabric. Always use a protective barrier in places where bare skin comes into contact with the upholstery.

Mistake 8 Attempting to clean the furniture with a rental machine instead of hiring a professional Dallas upholstery cleaning services by upholstery cleaners of dallas. By the time you lug the rental equipment around town, pay for gas and spend your weekend sitting on the floor waiting for the furniture to dry you could have paid someone else to do it for a fraction of the cost – and lot better results!

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/furniture-articles/upholstery-cleaning-biggest-mistakes-499668.html

dody_haris@yahoo.co.id (D. It can be a strange process if you are unfamiliar with it. Read this article and learn some answers to many of the most common carpet cleaning and upholstery cleaning questions.

One common question is how often should I clean my carpet or upholstery? This is a question without a clear answer. You should clean your carpet at least once per year but you might want to clean it more often if you have kids, pets or if you smoke. Your upholstery should be cleaned at least once every two years. If you use your upholstery heavily you should probably clean it once per year.

Another question asked commonly is how long will it take for my carpet or upholstery to dry? This depends on the cleaning method used. If you use a dry cleaning method you should expect your carpets to dry within one hour. If you use steam cleaning you should expect your carpet to dry within four to twelve hours. Upholstery will take between two to twelve hours to dry. This depends on the type of material and the method used to clean it.

One more question is, Is carpet cleaning safe? Yes it is. It is actually more unsafe to not clean your carpet. A clean carpet contributes to a cleaner home by removing impurities in the air. If you are sensitive to chemicals you might want to ask your cleaner what kind of cleaners they use. You might want to then either not be in the house while it is being cleaned or use a cleaner that uses all natural cleaning.

I hope these answers have helped you with your carpet cleaning questions. If you have further questions you should consult your local carpet cleaning company.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/home-improvement-articles/your-carpet-and-upholstery-cleaning-questions-answered-174148.html

dody_haris@yahoo.co.id (D. Taking care and cleaning your carpets on a regular basis will greatly extend the life of your carpet. Even if your carpets do not appear to be dirty, a regular carpet cleaning is required.

It is recommended that you clean your carpets once every six to twelve months. This will help to remove dust mites, pollen, pet dander, and even mold. No matter whether you are cleaning one area of carpet or several, following some simple guidelines will keep your carpet looking great.

Begin by deciding what type of carpet cleaning method you want to use. Although there are many methods of cleaning carpets, they fall into three main categories. Whenever possible, refer to your carpet warranty or ask a carpet professional which method is best for your type of carpet.

The first method is hot water extraction or steam cleaning. Extremely hot water, along with a carpet cleaning solution, is distributed over the carpet. Then, the carpet cleaner quickly sucks the water back up, along with the dirt and grime.

The next category of cleaning carpets is cold-water extraction. Cold-water extraction works along the same lines at hot water extraction, with the exception of using cold water.

The last category is dry extraction. A foam or powder is applied to the carpet. The cleaner works the dirt into a pile, where it can then be swept up by the carpet cleaner or regular vacuum sweeper.

After determining what method will work best with your carpet, either purchase a carpet cleaner or you can rent one from your local home improvement store. Whenever you rent a steam cleaner, the carpet cleaning supplies will be provided. However, if they are not, you can purchase them at most retail stores. Be sure to explain what type of carpet you have so that the right cleaning solutions can be recommended. Using the wrong solutions on the wrong carpet can produce disastrous results which may be expensive to repair.

Be sure to remove any large stains and/or odors before beginning the cleaning. When blotting up a stain use a white towel. Otherwise, a colored towel could possibly bleed through to your carpet. Apply stain remover to the cloth, rather than directly on the stain. Then, blot up the stain.

After you have the majority of the stains removed, you can begin shampooing the carpet. It is very important to follow the carpet cleaner instructions in order to avoid damage to your carpet.

Minimize the amount of water that is sprayed onto the carpet. Saturating the carpet can cause deterioration of the carpet and padding, which can create molds later on. Therefore, it is very important to quickly extract any water that is sprayed over the carpet.

After you had made several passes over the carpet with the carpet cleaner, let the carpet dry. It is recommended that you let the carpet dry overnight before walking on it. Whenever possible, place a fan on the carpet and open any windows.

Sometimes your carpet will need to be cleaned by a professional. So be sure to keep in mind, that if your carpet is too bad, call in professional help. While you may save money by doing it yourself, you could also do more damage than a professional would cost if your carpet is in extremely poor shape.

Taking care of your carpet can extend the life of your carpet. By quickly removing stains and cleaning your carpet every six to twelve months, you are ensuring that you carpet will be around for you to enjoy for many years.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/home-and-family-articles/how-to-effectively-clean-your-carpets-73082.html

dody_haris@yahoo.co.id (D. Most people use vacuum cleaners for carpet cleaning but this is not enough; your carpets also need some deep cleaning. The truth is that a carpet is easily prone to contaminants and pollutants. Your dog may walk in wagging his tail and shed some of his lovely hair on the carpet. A storm may bring in a few more surprises in the form of dust and allergens. To top it all, there is always the fear of spilling liquid or food, which may cause deep stains. All this translates to one thing: deep carpet cleaning.

It is advisable to deep clean carpets at least once in 12 or 18 months. This will not only remove the dust and the dirt but also the deep stains. As a result of deep carpet cleaning, the life span of your carpet will increase and it will also look as good as new. Deep cleaning of carpets will reduce the wear and tear and keep its colors bright. The question is how best you can deep clean your carpets?

Deep cleaning of carpets is not something that you can do at home always. This kind of carpet cleaning requires professional help. When you buy a new carpet, you will find a manufacturer note that states that the best cleaning process for all carpets is deep cleaning. It is important that you follow the instructions provided by the carpet manufacturer. You can try deep carpet cleaning at home too but for that you will require a carpet shampoo. There are different types of shampoos available in the market that can be used for specific carpets like woolen or silk carpets.

You should avoid using soap and household detergents for deep carpet cleaning as they can severely damage your carpet. To get the best results, start by vacuuming your carpet completely and then apply a pre-conditioning solution. The pre-conditioning solution is a form of mild detergents, which will help the soil on the carpet to loosen before you can start the actual deep cleaning process. Alternatively, you can also hire a carpet cleaning professional to do the job.

You can search over the internet for firm in your area that employ different deep carpet cleaning processes. The best way to find a professional is through references. Ask for references from your friends, neighbors, colleagues and family. While speaking to different professional carpet cleaners, make sure that you discuss the use of the five different methods of deep cleaning. Take their advice as they know which method will be best suited for your carpet. The five methods of carpet cleaning are:

Dry extraction: In this method professionals use an absorbent that contains special solvents and detergents. This absorbent is infused in to the carpet using special machines. The absorbent acts like a magnet and attract all the dirt, dust particles and soil from the carpet fibers. Once that happens then the carpet can be cleaned using a vacuum cleaner. This process works well for sturdy carpets.

Dry foam extraction: In this method, the professional will apply a detergent solution, which will create foam. The foam will then be applied to your carpet. The foam will attract all the dirt and the other pollutants, which can be removed later on using a vacuum cleaner. This process of carpet cleaning will work well for woolen carpets.

Hot water extraction: This is also known as steam cleaning and you can do it at home. First you will have to precondition the soiled areas of the carpet and then use a specially designed hot water extraction machine to infuse the cleaning solution into the carpet. This will help in loosening and removing of the soil.

Rotary shampoo: This is one of the classic carpet cleaning methods. It is done by professionals who use a machine that has rotary brushes. With the help of the brushes, cleaning solution is injected into the carpet, which helps in removing loose soil.

Absorbent pad: This is the last of the carpet cleaning methods and should not be done at home. A specially designed machine is used for removing the soil. The machine has absorbent spin pads, which can absorb the soil from your carpet.

At the end, it is always advised to refer to the instructions mentioned by the carpet manufacturer to help you choose the right deep cleaning method for your carpet.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/home-improvement-articles/how-to-deep-clean-carpets-for-better-health-272896.html

dody_haris@yahoo.co.id (D. Your arms will drop of before you have taken your first lesson in how to hang curtains. Not to tall that you cannot reach the window comfortably without leaning out to the side to hang curtains throwing you off balance.

Curtain hooks for standard pencil pleat curtain tape

Curtain hooks Again make sure before you start that you have enough of the right kind of curtain hooks.

Light curtains will be fine with standard plastic hooks.

Medium weight curtains use nylon hooks, stronger than plastic. They will flex without breaking. Heavy curtains use metal nickel hooks, they are bit fiddly to handle they all stick together the box. Just like the Chinese puzzles I had as a child.

Curtain hooks for bucram headed curtains

You will need what are called "pin hooks" simply because they have a sharp pin which pierces through the fabric and bucram (not sure checkout my site) on the back of the curtain header. This kind of heading makes for the best looking curtains. As always the best all ways costs that bit more.

An extra pair of hands

When you are learning how to hang curtains large or heavy it is very useful to have someone standing at ground level holding the curtain taking the weight. This enables you to hang the curtain onto your track or rod with ease.

How many hooks will you need? Well for curtains with standard pencil pleat tape you will need a hook every 4th pocket. For bucram headed curtains you will need 1 for every pleat or goblet and one for each end. Preparing your bucram headed curtains prior to hanging. The good news other than putting in the pin hooks setting them down 1/2 inch from the top of your curtain. there is no more prepping to do.

You just have to learn how to hang curtains and dress them properly. prepping your pencil pleat curtains prior to hanging: Standard pencil pleat curtains to start you will need to gather the tape on the top of your curtains. You do this by pulling out the 3 cords in the back of the curtain tape. To start pull the cords out of both ends of the curtain tape and tie them together in a firm knot. There are 2 reasons for this
1. It stops you pulling the cords completely out of the tape (not a good start when learning how to hang curtains).
2. It keeps the cords together on the end that you pull the cords out to gather your curtain. Then continue to pull the cords out. Simple tip on gathering your curtains.Take one set of knotted cords and hook over a door handle or some otherfixed object. Then use one hand to hold the curtain tape and with the other hand start to pull the tape away from the door handle.

You will see the heading on your curtain start to pleat. How wide do you curtains need to be? Next check what half the width of your track or rod measures. Lets say your track is 100 inches long. You half this to 50 inches, then add on 2 inches to allow your curtains to comfortably meet in the middle when hanging. So the finished width that you want to gather each of your pair of curtains is 52 inches. The more you learn how to hang curtains, the more this becomes second nature. Before you hang curtains.....stop and check! Before you start to hang your curtain you need to lay your curtain downon a table or the floor and check the gathered width is about right. Then if to narrow then pull out the tape a little. If to wide then gather in the tape a little more. what about the surplus cord? Finally sorting out all that surplus cord and evening up the pleats in the tape. DO NOT CUT THE CORDS !.

The best solution is to bundle the cords up by wrapping them around all your fingers then tie a slip knot around the bundle. This allows you in the future to alter the header tape should you want to. Once the cords are sorted out turn the curtain over. You need to look at the pleats and try and even them out. Just do it roughly at this time because when you come to hang them the pleats will move a little. Last job before hanging your curtains All most there, before you can hang your curtain you have to put the curtain hooks into the pockets on the back of the tape.

On most standard pencil pleat tape there are 3 pockets top, middle and bottom. How to hang curtains from a rod or pole If hanging under a rod or pole put your curtain hooks in the top pocket. Also note the number of rings on your rod or pole. This determines the number of hooks you put in the curtain tape. As a rule of thumb you useless hooks on a rod or pole than on a curtain track. On a track put a hook ever 4th pocket and on a ror or pole every 6 to 8 pockets. Hanging from a track? If hanging from a curtain track then put your curtain hooks in the center or bottom pocket pocket. this allows the curtain to cover the track when closed. To decide which pocket to use try one and see what your curtain looks like hanging. If your happy then great do the other curtain. If not happy move the curtain hooks up or down to suit.

The 1st step when hanging A lot of people say you should always start hanging your curtains from the ends of the track or rod and work towards the middle. I Disagree, I say you should always start from the middle and work outwards towards the ends. The reason I advise you do it this way is because if you have too many gliders on your track or too many rings on your rod you can easily remove them from the ends of your track or rod. Where if you start from the outside in to the middle the surplus gliders or rings are locked in the middle of your track or rod. Meaning you have to unhang your curtains to remove them. Not much more now and you will have the basics on how to hang curtains. Why do some advise to start from the middle? The reason is on some tracks and rods, but mostly the corded kind.

They have what are called overlap arms. These are short arms made of metal or platic with holes in for the last couple of curtain hooks on each leading edge of your pair of curtains (edges that meet at center of your window). Theses overlap arms allow one curtain to pass and overlap the other curtain by 2 or 3 inches. Thus giving you total privacy. So what's the big problem? So where's the problem? the problem is that these arms are not very strong. This means when you start to hang a medium to heavy curtain.

Especially without someone carrying the weight they sag and twist or break completely. Avoiding the problem ! So how do we avoid that when hanging from the center of the track or rod and working outwards. Very simple really, if you need 2 hooks to go in the overlap arm then count in to the 3rd hook and hook this into the first real glider or ring. Leaving the 1st and 2nd curtain hooks to just hang in space. continue hanging your curtain working from the middle outwards. That's how to hang curtains my way (the best way obviously "wink") Then once you have reached the ends of your track or rod (removing any surplus gliders or rings).

You go back to the middle and hook in the last couple of curtain hooks into the overlap arms. So avoiding puttingto much weight on them. Well I hope you have picked up a few "Tips" on how to hang curtains. This is just the first stage. Next is the "Dressing" of your curtains.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/home-improvement-articles/how-to-hang-curtains-428565.html

dody_haris@yahoo.co.id (D. For instance, some types of carpets do better in high traffic areas than others. Some carpets have a more casual appearance while others look more formal.

Carpet is basically constructed in three types of piles: loop pile, cut pile and cut-n-loop. Cut-N-Loop, also known as patterned carpet, is a combination of both loop and cut yarns or variations of loops set to different pile heights.

Carpet manufacturers and fiber producers are combining softer fibers and better built-in stain resistance with special backings that block odors, spills and more! These types of features are built-in to many of the better quality carpets offered by the leading carpet manufacturers. Mohawk Carpets with SmartStrand and Shaw Carpets with SoftBac Platinum display some the major advancement in carpet construction technology.

Most carpet today is tufted, rather than woven. The tufting process is similar to using a large sewing machine that is about 13 feet wide with 100 of needles that sew the yarn into a synthetic backing. The majority of carpets sold today are made from nylon fibers twisted into yarns and then tufted into carpet.

How long a carpet will retain it is like new texture and appearance is based on the type of fiber, how tight the yarns are twisted and heat-set, and the pile density. Also, how tightly the tufts are packed together will also effect the long term durability of a carpet. Obviously, by not cleaning your carpets regularly, or by using improper cleaning methods will affect the appearance and life of your carpet as well.

Shown below is a description of how to choose the best carpet for your situation along with comparisons of different carpets plus the benefits of using carpet as compared to other flooring systems.

Carpeting Versus Hard Surfaces

* Carpet is available in many different styles, colors, and designs
* Carpet is an excellent acoustics and thermal insulator. It increases thermal comfort and at the same time decreases unwanted ambient noises.
* Carpet is certainly more comfortable to walk on, cushioning feet and reducing fatigue.

Things to Remember When Choosing Carpet

* The amount of traffic should determine the quality of carpet and padding you choose.
* Carpet in high traffic areas such as hallways and stairs will last longer with a textured high face weight cut pile with tightly twisted yarn or a high face weight loop pile.
* The quality of the padding is very important. Upgrade the padding to match the quality of the carpet being used. Do not fall for the free padding offer. UPGRADE!
* Less expensive carpet and padding can be used in areas where the traffic is less of a factor, such as bedrooms and closets.

Color and Pattern Considerations

* Color is typically the most difficult part of choosing carpet, there are many different colors to choose from.
* Lighter colors tend to brighten a room and make it appear to be larger. Darker colors tend to do the opposite.
* Patterns can also affect the apparent size of a room. Large patterns tend to make a room appear smaller while small patterns make a room appear larger.
* Patterns also help mask stains and wear.
* Always, take samples home to compare color and style to your room.

Types of Carpet

* There are three different methods for producing cut pile carpet-Wilton, Axminster, and tufted.
* Axminster is a weaving process where virtually any number of colors can be used. It is primarily used in high quality patterned wool carpet.
* Wilton is also a type of weave, usually containing up to five colors. The patterns are limited, but the Axminster process makes for a more durable carpet.
* Tufted is the most common type of carpet produced in the US today. Though relatively new, tufted carpet is simpler and less expensive to produce than Axminster and Wilton carpet.

Types of Yarn

* There are numerous types of yarn used today; some natural and some man made.
* Wool, nylon and polyester are the most popular.
* Each one offers different characteristics.

Carpet Styles

* There are three basic styles of carpet, Loop pile, Cut pile, and Cut-n-loop
* Loop pile carpet is continuously looped, and offers various textures.
* Cut pile carpet is made when the tops of the loops are sheered off.
* Cut-n- loop carpet is a combination of the two processes producing distinct patterns.

Now that you know what to look for in carpet, the next time you begin a flooring overhaul, you will be able to an educated selection instead of depending on the advice of a store clerk.

Important Tip :: When purchasing carpeting, you should buy the best-quality carpet you can afford, coupled with the highest quality padding. In fact, the padding that goes between the carpeting and the sub-flooring is as important as the choice of carpeting itself.
Padding provides softness and support, cuts down on noise and insulates the floor. Often referred to as "underlay" or "cushion," padding thickness depends on the pile of the carpet above it. Padding should be no thicker than 7/16 inch, even for a very deep pile carpet. Too much cushion can actually void a manufacturer's warranty; so, take the time to find the padding that is right for your new carpet.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/home-and-family-articles/knowing-carpet-inside-out-92962.html

dody_haris@yahoo.co.id (D. They may also offer deep cleaners and other products to remove stain, eliminate dust, etc.

If you need to hire a carpet cleaner, you can try traditional methods such as browsing the yellow pages and looking at the classified ads in your local newspaper. However, the easier and faster way to find a cleaner is by researching on the Internet.

In many countries, there are national carpet cleaners’ associations that have searchable lists of their members, grouping them by regions, and providing additional information such as areas of specialization and additional services that they can provide.

You can browse the carpet cleaners’ database, and find the professional closest to fitting your budget. Cleaning of carpets on a regular basis is an investment that extends the life expectancy of carpets, along with flooring and furnishing in the surrounding area.

So when you hire the services of a professional carpet cleaner you will help to keep a hygienic household environment. However, is there a difference between a professional carpet cleaner and an unqualified cleaner such as the homeowner?

Professional carpet cleaners are aware of hidden effects that detergent residues cause in the carpet fibers, acting also as a magnet for dust and dirt; hence they will only use cleaning products especially designed for carpeting cleaning.

The same is true for upholstery fabric, attracting dust imperceptibly that eventually will head straight to your carpets, hence soft furnishings requires routine cleaning.

These and many other cleaning facts are taught through special courses offered by carpet cleaners’ associations, running different training courses throughout the year.

Carpets and furnishing are among the most costly investments in a household, so getting a professional carpet cleaner to perform regular cleaning maintenance is a wise choice.

Keeping your carpets vacuumed and your furnishing clean will make you feel more comfortable at home. And if your environment looks good and is dust-free, your sense of well-being will also be increased.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/sales-articles/is-carpet-cleaning-service-a-good-choice-103059.html

dody_haris@yahoo.co.id (D. When neglected, however, upholstery can quickly turn into next year's yard sale's featured item. Help the upholstered furniture in your dining room, living room, family room and bedroom last for years and years, by getting to know the ABC's of upholstery preventative and corrective care.
Stop Damage Before it Occurs
Protect Upholstery from: SUNLIGHT, NEWSPAPER INK, FABRIC DYES, PAINTS & POLISHES
Allow common sense to dictate what you should keep from harming your upholstered furniture. Sunlight will fade upholstery, so keep your upholstered couches, armchairs and ottomans away from the window, or else well-shaded. Put your newspaper on a coffee table or side table, to avoid ink damage to your upholstered furniture.

Other items that can cause permanent damage include dark-colored sheets and blankets, for when damp or wet, the dark dyes on these fabrics can rub off and ruin your upholstery. Finally, paints and polishes, such as nail or shoe polish, should never be used on upholstery. Make sure to cover your upholstered furniture when painting your living room, dining room, or bedrooms!
Keep it Clean!
1: Vacuum, 2: Damp-Dust, 3: Professionally Clean
Cleaning upholstered furniture is easy as 1, 2, 3. First, Vacuum as often as possible. Second, damp-dust arms and headrest areas with cleaning solution recommended by the manufacturer. Third, indulge occasionally in professional cleaning for maximum dirt and dust particle removal.

Here's a tip for keeping your favorite chairs & couches clean: Don't be fooled by the zippers on those cushions: the cushion covers are NOT meant to be removed and washed separately! Before you vacuum, remove the cushions. Beat them, rotate them, then vacuum them.
911 Emergency Care
Blot, scrape, vacuum. Read label, match spill with remedy.
Spills happen. The key to avoiding a permanent stain is to react in the manner most appropriate to the type of spill. For liquid spills, don't rub the spot, BLOT. Use a fresh, clean paper towel. For food or solid spills, first lift as much of the spill as possible with a dull knife or a spoon, scraping gently towards the center. For powder or cigarette ash spills, don't add a liquid or rub. Instead, vacuum up the spill.

When remnants of the spill still remain, use a fabric cleaner. Here are some guidelines:

1.
Check manufacturer's label for cleaning instructions and recommendations.
1. Codes on the labels are as follows:
1. W=water based cleaning agent;
2. S=water-free solvent;
3. WS=water based or water-free agent okay;
4. X=clean only by vacuuming or light brushing.
2.
Test water or cleaning agent in a hidden area of the upholstered furniture before applying to the stain.
3.
Be patient when applying cleaning agent. Go slowly to avoid causing a ring or spreading the stain. You may need to use several doses, blotting each time with a clean paper towel. Only blot, never rub.
4.
Use a fan or cool blow dryer to speed up drying process, working from outer edge of spill to inner. If velvet, use a brush on fabric before it dries.
5.
If a stain remains, call a professional cleaner.

Protect, clean and care for your upholstered sofas, chairs and loveseats using these tips and guidelines.
