Legalizing Pot?

⊆ December 14th, 2009 by Softly | ˜ No Comments »

It’s been a question since Prohibition ended - to legalize pot or not to legalize pot. When alcohol was outlawed during the Prohibition, the use of marijuana skyrocketed. Uncle Sam thought he was being saavy, allowing alcohol to be re-legalized so it could be “controlled” and taxed. Sadly what Unkie found was not as many people were drinking, having moved onto pot for their fix.

Considering alcohol induced deaths from drunk driving and health issues are one of the top killers in the United States and that violence and accidents of all sorts increases with alcohol use, pot seems a more gentle alternative.

You never hear of a little old lady being beaten within an inch of her life from someone looking for a joint. Although I have to roll my eyes at everything being taxed, and if it can’t be taxed it can’t be legalized, I am all for this.

California, where same sex marriage was voted down (don’t even get me started) now has more than enough signatures to put taxed and legalized marijuana on the ballot.

Tiny Timmy

⊆ November 24th, 2009 by Softly | ˜ 3 Comments »

L and I rescued a little kitty several months ago. Did we need more cats in our life? Absolutely not. Yet, it was one of those situations where the greater need won out.

The poor little guy, who we named after Tiny Tim (the kid on crutches) in Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol, could hardly keep conscious when we rescued him. We rushed him to the vet after we spent his first night bathing, flea combing, feeding and loving on him. The vet didn’t expect him to make it through the next 48 hours. Timmy sure showed them!!! He is thriving!

Instead of my writing a huge diatribe on what toxic over the counter flea and tick stuff does to cats (and dogs), I’d like to share Timmy’s first movie with you. The music starts part way in, so be patient. It was designed that way. You can also read about Timmy and learn more on his popular Catbook page.

Please feel free to share this, pass it on, talk it up, use it at work, send it to your Auntie Mame who you haven’t spoken to for the last twenty years.
