I found myself searching for Process Information and Software Engineering related information and spent whole lot of time on Google. In an attempt to reduce the effort and time spent on Google for PrI & SE resources, created the PRISE custom search engine. [Original post].

This search engine has been used for more than 1000 searches in last few months.

http://www.google.com/coop/cse?cx=003453698661311018511%3Ahg2yhtikzzw

To add to your Google:

Feedback I received through e-mails has been good.
Kindly let me know your thoughts by leaving a comment on this blog.
Appreciate your effort, time and support.

Honourable Minister of IT&C, Andhra Pradesh, India's visit to Detroit

This year I became member of Detroit Telugu Association (DTA) and started getting involved with programs and events.

On Sunday May 13th at wee hours at night Srinivas Koneru sent an invite with the following:
Sri. Damodar Reddy Ramireddy, Minister for Information Technology & Communications, Government of Andhra Pradesh (AP) will be in town (Detroit) on Monday, May 14, 2007. You are invited to attend a reception hosted in his honor by India League Association (ILA).
Date & Time : Monday, May 14, 2007 7:00 PM

Sent my confirmation immediately though it is a short notice. Most events notified at least two weeks in advance. The venue is about 40 miles and in peak hours (heavy traffic) would take anywhere between sixty to ninty minutes.

I started at 6:20 PM and reached at 7:40 PM and the meeting just got started with introductions.

About fifty plus people are present and glad to see some familiar faces and felt homely.
After introductions, felicitations and other formalities, it is time for the Honourable minister to address the audience.

His speech was good and he impressed the crowd very well. Though he is new to the ministry, he answered the questions with balance and knowledgeably.

Key points from speech are:
AP Government will continue to encourage IT and attend to Agriculture as this government felt that this sector was neglected in last few years.
Reviewed the progress of Fabcity plans and mentioned that his meetings with several semi-conductor CEOs from Silicon Valley in USA were very encouraging.
Measures are taken to bring IT more towards Class B cities.
Provide quality education and training through Jawahar Knowledge centers.
New incentives and packages for setting up IT shops in Visakhapatnam, Warangal, Kakinada, Vijayawada and Tirupati.
Also setting up IT Hubs at Cuddapah, Kurnool, Anantapur, Nalgonda and Vizianagarm.
Invited the Michigan based companies to invest in Andhra Pradesh.
Mentioned his fruitful meetings with his counterparts in Michigan state government.
Offered assistance to all the NRIs and informed allocation of special meeting time every Monday and Tuesday from 3:00 PM onwards for NRIs (Non-Resident Indians) interested in setting up IT shop in Andhra Pradesh.

Non-IT highlights mentioned are as follows:
International airport at Hyderabad
Repair works of Visakhapatnam Airport to complete in July 2007.

On his personal note, he was truly delighted to meet his childhood friend after forty years.

Overall a great speech and was well received by audience.

Amazing kids

NorthSouth Foundation (www.northsouth.org) conducts educational competitions in USA at regional and national levels. As the time progresses, added several other sites and the count of sites this CSE uses now stands at 250. Started with 90 sites and now expanded to 250.

The CSE is receiving a steady 10 searches a day during business days and a total of 432 searches in the month of March.

A Mile stone.. 300 not out.. on LinkedIn

When I first started using LinkedIn (http://www.linkedin.com) about a year ago, most of the active members were having 500+ contacts. Gosh.. these are fierce networkers. I remember those days not long ago, LinkedIn contacts were stagnant at 18 for quite some time. Several thoughts were going in my mind. Where do I get more contacts? how do I increase my network ? and so on.

Just then I remembered my old case of visiting cards. They were packed and stored in one of the eight luggage bags (four suitcases and four bags). Last week the search operation began and found the visiting card case. Opened and counted the visiting cards, there were 758 cards to be precise in six small boxes, from people I had met in the past ten years. Most of them may not be with the same company or available at the same e-mail any more. Suddenly I felt light.

Started adding people I met (from my cards) and not met from LinkedIn (from Answers)... Surprisingly my responses opened a new avenue to grow my network. I started receiving responses from answers and receiving invitations from those read my responses to join their network.

Now I feel motivated to accelerate building my network to engage and make it mutually beneficial.

Social networking

Earlier I used to manage hundreds of visiting cards as I used to meet lots of people through various forums and institutes. Google's CSE provides a tailored search experience, built using Google's core search technology, which prioritizes or restrics search results based on websites and pages that are specified, and which are tailored to reflect Software Engineering and Process Improvement.

Tailoring is a magic word for many process improvement and software engieering professionals like me. When google offered to tailor web searche, why not make my and my fellow software engineering professionals save some time and effort on Google searches.

Here you find PRISE (PRocess Improvement and Software Engineering) CSE Alpha
http://www.google.com/coop/cse?cx=003453698661311018511%3Ahg2yhtikzzw

I plan to release fully on 24/Mar/2007.

Please do provide your feedback.
In case you are interested in contributing to this effort, please do send me a note, I would love to have some company here.

Have a great time.
Gupta

Rise of Business Analysts

In a recent article in CIO Insight 38% of CIO's of large companies ($1B+) responded indicating that they would be increasing the number of business analysts.
