The Ryan Seacrest Foundation opened its first broadcast media center at Children's. At THE VOICE, children can learn about the exciting world of radio and TV broadcasting during their hospital stay.

THE VOICE and patients

The center is located in the lobby of Children’s at Egleston. THE VOICE is on the air Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. During this time, patients can come to the studio to learn about radio or introduce songs over the air. They can record greetings and play games with other patients or the center’s interns. Some patients have even returned to perform.

Patients at Children’s at Scottish Rite and Children’s at Hughes Spalding may watch and listen to THE VOICE by tuning to Channel 12 on their TV. Any patient can call THE VOICE to request a song, do a shout-out to a favorite doctor or nurse or ask a question to a special guest.

5 Things Not To Do at Your Company Holiday Party

The office holiday party is a great time to mix and mingle with people you see or normally don't see around the office on a daily basis. It's a time to relax and hopefully eat good food and cross your fingers that you got a good Secret Santa. Better yet, that you're not the first person picked during the White Elephant gift exchange.

You go to the office holiday party, because it's the right thing to do. Or simple because you want to attend. There's always someone that likes to stand out at the holiday party. Either by wearing something "loud," like a reindeer sweater with lights, or the other extreme, a prom dress with metallic sequence and stripper heels.

Before you bust out the electric slide at the party, here are 5 Things Not To Do at Your Company Holiday Party:

1. Don't dance inappropriately. Antonette C. suggests, "Better yet, if you can't dance then refrain from raising the roof." A former colleague of mine break danced at our Christmas party. Let's just say he only lasted 6 months afterwards.

2. Don't get drunk and start flirting with your co-workers. If there's a mistletoe, don't feel obligated to stand under it and kiss your co-worker. If anything move far away from the mistletoe.

3. No PDA with your significant other. Remember that you're still at work.

4. Don't double dip or use your fingers to eat from the buffet line. Don't fill up plate to the rim with food. Remember to leave some for others.

5. Shasedy W. recommends, " Don't bring a date other than your spouse."

It's also not good to be fashionably late to the party. Let's face it, this is a time to enjoy and have fun. Not a time to act like a 21-year-old who just got the green flag to drink booze in public. Mingle with everyone and have a good time!

Arlington, VA – The Atlanta National College Fair will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, GA from 12:00p.m. – 4:00p.m. Sponsored by the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and hosted by the Southern Association for College Admission Counseling (SACAC), this event is free and open to the public.

As the process of applying to and selecting a college becomes more and more competitive and complex, students and parents need all the help and information they can get. Attending a college fair is the best way to gather information about colleges and universities. The national college fair program provides valuable resources for students and parents attempting to navigate the college-admission process.

The fair allows students and parents to meet one-on-one with admission representatives from a wide range of national and international, public and private, two-year and four-year colleges and universities. 1) Is there a story (that you’ve been told) about where your name comes from?

I was name after Sojourner Truth. She was born an American slave in 1797 and later became an abolitionist, preacher and advocate for women’s rights.

2) What does your name mean to you? Do you think you have a great name?

I think I have a wonderful name. I would want no other name, and believe that my names fits me perfectly. My parents, Dr. Manning Marable and Hazel Ann Harris instilled in me at a very young age the importance and significance of my name. When battles come my way, my mom will say, “You were given your name for a reason. What would Sojourner Truth have done?”. My father was a historian and oftentimes reminded me that I have a very powerful name. He would say, “Speak Truth to Power, Kiddo. That’s why I named you Sojourner.”

Tour of Homes for the Holidays (Photos)

My Mother-In-Law, Ernestine invited me on the "Tour of Homes for the Holidays" event last weekend with her church friends. I was thrilled to go, and looked forward to touring 11 church family members homes.

We loaded up the church van at New Mountain Top Baptist Church, located in Winston, GA and headed out to the first of many homes. Each house was decorated beautifully. The Tour of Homes was so much fun to add to the Holidays. Every stop we received not only an eye-full treat, but also something to eat. One sister mentioned that we needed to repent later for the "gluttony of food we ate."

In all, we had a marvelous time. I look forward to gathering with church members next year and touring their homes. Mine may even be on the list!

Discovering Your Life's Purpose: New Year’s Resolution 2012

For me, personally, 2011 was an extremely difficult year. It was a year of both professional and spiritual growth, but also deep and very painful sadness. I changed jobs, lost several close loved ones in my family, watched my Mother-In-Law battle and overcome breast cancer, and my childhood girlfriend lose her only sibling. All of these trials and tribulations over the past year made me reflect on my own life and purpose.

My Grandma, June Morehead Marable passed away in June. She was a phenomenal woman, at sixteen; she left home to attend college in Dayton, Ohio. She obtained a BS degree in Education and a minor in Art from Central State University ('48), later to receive a MS, University of Dayton ('65); PhD, Miami University Oxford, OH ('74); MDiv, United Theological Seminary ('89). She is one of my sheroes. I not only admire her for her courage, but for finding her true calling and reaching her goals. Her teachings are one of the reasons why I still have strength throughout adversity.

Although this year was unlike any other in my life, I still met my New Year’s Resolution List from 2010. My listed consisted of the following:

1. I will take care of myself mentally, physically, spiritually, and financially.
2. I will continue to balance work and motherhood and spend quality time with family and friends.

Much has been written about the discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill in 1848, thereby precipitating the California Gold Rush. Little is known about the one person present who was able to recognize the shiny rock. To prove it was the real thing, Jennie Wimmer boiled the nugget in her soap kettle. Izzy Maternity Hosts Holiday Fashion Show to Benefit Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Alpharetta, GA – Izzy Maternity showcased winter maternity fashions for a good cause during its 5^th annual holiday party at the North Point Village location on Thursday, Nov. 17. More than 75 guests attended the ViaCord sponsored event. Nearly $800 was raised for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) through raffle ticket sales and private donations.

The event included a fashion show where 20 Izzy customers modeled holiday outfits from top maternity designers including Jules & Jim, Maternal America, Olian and Nicole Michelle. Representatives from the Aveda Institute Atlanta donated their time to do hair and make-up for the models.

Model, Angelica O’Shaughnessy of Buckhead, gets her make-up done by Aveda Institute Atlanta make-up artist, August Simon, in preparation for the Izzy Maternity Holiday Fashion Show on Thursday, November 17 at the Alpharetta location.

During the party, guests dined on heavy hor-dourves courtesy of ViaCord. Guests also participated in a jumbo sized raffle to benefit LLS. Customers won items like personal training, spa baskets, theater tickets, and 3D/4D Ultrasound gift certificates.

Our oldest son, Roland and I attended the Annual Southwest Cascade/Martin Luther King Jr. Drive Merchants Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 10. The parade began at Noon at Kroger and I-285 and head north on Cascade Road, concluding at Providence Missionary Baptist Church, 2295 Benjamin E. Mays Dr. We had the opportunity to take photos with Mayor Kasim Reed and Santa Claus!
