In the Hall all were enjoying this unique and different kind of Kitty Party accompanying almost all age group of female members of the colony. The kitty is usually planned on holidays so that everyone can participate and can share information as well as all bad and good experiences of life and to arrive at solution. The subject of this gathering is not just film, make-up, cooking, fashion, shopping and gossiping but the unusual kind of subjects like ayurveda, acupressure, home remedies and different kind of tactics, Science and technology, are the key points of discussion. The inclusion of various games, historical festivals and it’s intellectual discussion was like the icing on the cake. All were discussing with open mind on the various tips to make life easy, money saving and to earn pocket money was an interesting to find out the solution together.

As per the rules of society’s kitty everyone is supposed to show at least one creative idea. All were gathered today for kitty and it was her turn to show some creativity. One old aged lady excitedly asked her that you might be busy whole day working In office, so might not be getting time for such creative kitty right? She replied affirmatively that yes ba , you are right it is very difficult for me to spare some time for creativity but though, I am always having strive for something innovative which I am going to share with you all and you guys won’t just like but you all will definitely adopt it.

Have these biscuits, cookies, Handava, Pulav and let me know how tasty these are? “what’s so special and creative in this?” – You may have question in your mind. You will definitely be surprised to know that all these I have made without using Gas stove or even without oven. The one more surprising element is that this I have prepared while I was doing my job at my office without any direct supervision. When I came back from my office Hot Handava and Pulav were ready to serve. I have already prepared biscuits and cookies in weekend which we are enjoying right now with relaxing time and enjoying all yours company together.

How can it be possible madam, who cooked these dishes? I have always seen a big lock on your door while you were in office. It seems as if you have brought all these from market. Isn’t’ it ? kitty friends asked lots of question to her. No, Not at all, she replied with grace and proud that she made it all at home with one “magical box”. Reading the curious faces of all members she added “ Do you want to know about this magical box ? What is it? It is my solar cooker. I made some preparation in advance before going to office and put it into this solar cooker kept at the terrace, that’s it. When I was back I just brought it out of the magical box and found all tasty food ready. Isn’t it a creative idea? All have asked with curiosity to know “please give us information in detail and also show your a magical box the solar cooker.

She said Ok, let me give you some primary information and then I will show you that magical box too. Solar cooker is nothing but a cooker which cooks using solar heat, It can also be used for pasteurizing apart from cooking. The solar heat is needed for this solar cooker so keep it under the solar light. It can be used for preparing rice-dal etc as well as it can be used for steaming the food. Handavo, Dhokla , Brinjal -bhartha etc. can be easily prepared using this machine. Just put some required water and spice and other ingredients in the cooker along with food and forget it for 4 to 5 hours and you will find everything well cooked when you will open it after 5 hours. It is also available in the market with name “Rudra Solar Cooker”. We can bake biscuits, cookies, cupcake, muffins, chevda and paua too using this magic box. In the summer season pickles also, I am using this solar cooker for making crushed mango pickle and jam too very easily without investing mush of my time. She explained to the curious audience. The mint powder and Amchur (dried row mango powder)made with solar cooker gives amazing aroma and taste.

Normally when ghee in extracted from butter using traditional method, we invest hours in just mixing the butter with spoon at the slow flame to get ghee from butter which may get us tired. But the same can be easily done using solar cooker. Before going to office put all the butter in the solar cooker and when you will be back you can find ghee ready with nice aroma. All ladies were just like astonished and responded as they were knowing about the solar cooker that it can be used only for boiling rice and khichdi that’s it. They were not aware about such innovative uses of the solar cooker.

She continued further “this is just a primary information my dear friends , the interesting and important to know about using solar cooker is great taste of the food cooked slowly and it maintains nutritional values to get healthy food. We can avoid Overcooking and keep food warm for longer time. The most important thing is that there is no electricity required, so one time investment and almost zero cooking cost, isn’t it a saving of money and time both?

COCONUT RICE

Cooking time : 2-2_1/2 hours

Ingredients :

Basmati Rice : 200 g

Coconut : 1

Ghee : 2 tablespoons

Water : 400g

Onion : 1 large, Sliced

Cinnamon ; 1 inch piece

Clover : 4

Bay leaf : 1

Salt and sugar to taste

Method : Grate the coconut, add 2 cups of water and grind in a liquidizer. Squeeze out the milk and keep aside. Heat the ghee in a pan and when not, add the sliced onion, bay leaf, cinnamon and clover. Saute for a minute. Clean, wash and drain the rie. Add this rice to the onion, stir until thoroughly mixed. Add enough coconut milk to cook the rice. Add sugar and salt and put it in the Surya Cooker.

घरगुती पातळीवर अन्न शिजवण्यासाठी: पेटी म्हणजेच बॉक्स प्रकारची चूल
ही एक साधी पेटी असते जी गरम होऊन आतील अन्न शिजते. सौरचुलीचा घरगुती पातळीवर वापरला जाणारा हा अगदी सर्वसामान्य प्रकार आहे.
सौरचुलीचे महत्वाचे भाग

बाहेरील पेटी : ही साधारणपणे जीआय प्रकारचे लोखंड, अ‍ॅल्युमिनियम किंवा फायबर रीएन्फोर्स्ड् प्लास्टिकपासून बनवतात.

अन्न शिजवण्यासाठीची आतील पेटी (ट्रे) : ही अ‍ॅल्युमिनियमची असते. ही आकाराने बाहेरील पेटीपेक्षा किंचित लहान असते व तिला काळा रंग दिलेला असल्याने ती सूर्यप्रकाश सहजपणे शोषून घेऊन अन्न ठेवलेल्या भांड्यांपर्यंत पोहोचवते.

काचेचे दुहेरी झाकण : आतील ट्रेवर बसणारे हे झाकण त्या पेटीपेक्षा किंचित मोठे असते. दोन काचांमध्ये 2 सेंटिमीटर अंतर असते व त्या अ‍ॅल्युमिनियमच्या फ्रेममध्ये बसवलेल्या असतात. ह्या दोन काचांमधील हवेमुळे आतील उष्णता बाहेर येऊ शकत नाही. फ्रेमच्या कडांवर बसवलेल्या रबरी पट्टीमुळे उष्णता तेथूनदेखील बाहेर निसटू शकत नाही.

उष्णतारोधक : आतील ट्रे व बाहेरची पेटी ह्यांमधली जागा ग्लासवूलसारख्या उष्णतारोधक पदार्थाने भरतात. पेटीच्या तळाकडूनही हा उष्णतारोधक पदार्थ लावलेला असल्याने उष्णता कोठूनही बाहेर पडू शकत नाही. ह्या पदार्थास चटकन पेटणार्‍या वस्तूंपासून दूर ठेवा.

आरसा : सौरचुलीतील आरशामुळे तेवढ्याच जागेमध्ये जास्त सूर्यकिरण शोषून घेणे शक्य होते. पेटीच्या मुख्य झाकणाच्या आतील बाजूने हा आरसा लावलेला असतो. आरशावर पडणारे सूर्यकिरण परावर्तित होऊन काचेच्या झाकणामधून पेटीत पडतात. शिवाय पेटीला थेट सूर्यप्रकाश मिळत असतोच. अशारीतीने चुलीच्या आतले तापमान वाढून अन्न त्वरेने शिजण्यास मदत होते.

भांडी : झाकण असलेली ही भांडी साधारणतः अ‍ॅल्युमिनियम किंवा स्टेनलेस स्टीलची बनवलेली असतात. त्यांना बाहेरून काळा रंग दिलेला असल्यामुळे तीदेखील भरपूर सूर्यप्रकाश थेटपणे शोषून घेतात.

सौरचुलीचा वापर करून अन्न कसे शिजवतात?

>> मोकळ्या, सावली नसलेल्या जागेवर सौरचूल सूर्यप्रकाशात ठेवा. ह्या चुलीमध्ये अन्नाची भांडी ठेवण्यापूर्वी ही चूल किमान 45 मिनिटे सूर्यप्रकाशात ठेवा म्हणजे ती अगोदरच गरम होऊन अन्न शिजण्यास कमी वेळ लागेल.
>> चूल अशा स्थितीत ठेवा ज्यायोगे सूर्यकिरण आरशावरून परावर्तित होऊन ते काचेच्या झाकणावर पडतील.
>> सौरचुलीचे झाकण उघडून भांडी आत ठेवा आणि झाकण बंद करा. एकदा ही भांडी आत ठेवल्यानंतर मध्येच झाकण उघडू नका.
>> अन्न शिजल्यानंतरच झाकण उघडा. आतील भांडी खूप तापलेली असतात, कपड्यामध्ये धरून ती बाहेर काढा नाहीतर बोटे भाजतील.

सोलर कुकर वह उपकरण है जो खाना पकाने के लिये सूर्य की ऊर्जा का उपयोग करता है।

लाभ

>> रसोई गैस, मिट्टी तेल, विद्युत ऊर्जा, कोयले अथवा लकड़ी की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं होती।
>> ईन्धन पर कोई खर्चा करने की आवश्यकता नही है। सौर ऊर्जा मुफ्त उपलब्ध होती है।
>> सोलर कुकर में पका हुआ खाना पोषक होता है। इसमें पारंपरिक खाना पकाने के साधनों की तुलना में प्रोटीन की मात्रा 20 से 30 प्रतिशत अधिक होती है। इसकी विटामिन को भोजन में बनाये रखने की क्षमता 20 से 30 प्रतिशत होती है जबकि विटामिन ए 5 से 10 प्रतिशत तक अधिक रहता है।

ये एक गरम बक्से के समान होता है जिसमें भोजन पकता है। ये घरेलू उपयोग के लिये सबसे सामान्य मॉडल है।

सोलर कुकर के महत्वपूर्ण भाग
बाहरी बक्सा : सोलर कुकर का बाहरी बक्सा सामान्यत: जी आई¸ एल्युमिनियम अथवा फायबर मिले प्लास्टिक से बना होता है।

आंतरिक पकाने का बक्सा अथवा ट्रे : ये एल्युमिनियम शीट से बना होता है। आंतरिक कुकिंग बक्सा¸ बाहरी कुकिंग बक्से से थोड़ा छोटा होता है। इसपर काले रंग का पेन्ट किया होता है जिससे ये सूर्य की ऊष्मा को सही तरीके से अवशोषित कर सके और उसे पकाने के बर्तनों तक पहुंचा सके।

डबल ग्लास ढक्कन:अंदर के बक्से के ट्रे को ढकने के लिए ग्लास का एक ढक्कन होता है। ये ढक्कन आंतरिक बक्से से थोड़ा बड़ा होता है। दोनो कांच की शीट को एल्युमिनियम फ्रेम में 2 सेन्टीमीटर की दूरी से टाइट किया गया होता है। इस स्थान में हवा होती है जो अन्दर की ऊष्मा को बाहर जाने से रोकती है। इस फ्रेम पर रबर की पट्टी चिपकाई जाती है जिससे किसी प्रकार का ऊष्मा का रिसाव न हो सके।

ऊष्मीय इन्स्युलेटर: बाहरी बक्से व आंतरिक ट्रे के मध्य का स्थान जिसमें ट्रे का तल भी शामिल होता है¸ उसे इन्स्युलेटेड सामान से भरा जाता है, जैसे- ग्लास वूल पैड्‌स¸ जिससे आंतरिक ऊष्मा के रिसाव को कम किया जा सके। ये इन्स्युलेटेड सामग्री¸ भाप में उड़ जाने वाले पदार्थों से मुक्त होनी चाहिये।

कांच: कांच का उपयोग सोलर कुकर में विकिरण को बढ़ावा देने के लिये किया जाता है जिससे कांच के द्वारा सूर्य के प्रकाश को सही तरीके से अवशोषित किया जा सकता है। जो सूर्य प्रकाश इस कांच पर पड़ता है¸ वह इन्स्युलेटेड सामग्री के द्वारा होते हुए अन्दर कुकर तक पहुंचता है। ये विकिरण¸ सीधे आंतरिक तापमान को बढ़ाते हैं व कुकर को जल्दी गर्म होने में मदद मिलती है।

बर्तन : खाना पकाने के बर्तन¸ इनमें ढक्कन भी शामिल है¸ एल्युमिनियम अथवा स्टेनलेस स्टील के बने होते है। इन बर्तनों पर भी काला रंग लगाया होता है जिससे ये भी सूर्य के प्रकाश को सीधे सोख सकें।

हम सोलर कुकर के उपयोग से भोजन कैसे बना सकते है?

>> सोलर कुकर को किसी भी छाया से परे¸ खुले स्थान में सूर्य प्रकाश में रखें। भोजन के बर्तन इसमें रखने से पहले इसे कम से कम 45 मिनट तक सूर्य प्रकाश में रखें। इस तरीके से कुकर भोजन पकाने की क्रिया के लिये तैयार हो जाता है और पकाने में कम समय लगता है।

>> कुकर को इस तरीके से रखें कि परावर्तक दर्पण सूर्य प्रकाश के समक्ष रहे और परावर्तित सूर्य किरण पारदर्शक कांच के ढक्कन पर पड़े। इस स्थिति में दर्पण को कस दें।

>> सोलर कुकर के कांच के ढक्कन को खोलें¸ अब भोजन पकाने के बर्तन को अन्दर रखकर ढक्कन को सही तरीके से बंद कर दें। एक बार बर्तन अन्दर रख दिये जाने के बाद ढक्कन नहीं खोला जाना चाहिये।

>> जब भोजन पक जाए तभी ढक्कन खोलिये। पके हुए भोजन को बाहर निकालने के लिये कपड़े से पकड़िये क्योंकि ये काफी गर्म होते हैं।

Earlier we have seen the solar box Cookers. Now we will discuss about the Concentrating Solar Cookers also Known As Parabolic Solar Cookers.

This type of solar cookers are very much used in all over the world due to the faster cooking ability. They are also known as solar dish cookers. As per the constructional point of view there are many design available in this type of solar cookers.

Main Parts Of Concentrating Solar Cookers
As per the figure you can have a idea about the simple construction of concentrating solar cookers. The main Parts are
Reflecting Structure: Mainly all concentrating solar cookers are made with parabolic shape in circular or rectangular profile. Reflecting material can be anodized aluminium sheet, reflecting mirror or any other reflecting media with reflectivity more then or equal to 90. This will reflect all the sun rays to one focal point known as focus of the parabola.

Cooking Pot: At the focus of the parabola the heat is maximum due to concentration of the sun rays. The cooking pot is kept at the focal point so that maximum heat can be utilized. In this type of cookers the temperature can go beyond the 250 deg cel. Due to this it can be used for frying also. which is not possible in the box cooker or in panel cooker. The proper pot holder is provided at the focus of parabola.

Support Structure: This is the structure on which the complete parabolic cooker rest and perform its operation. It must have Rigid structure to withstand the higher wind velocity and also it should be protected with the corrosion resistance paint/ Coating.

Castor Wheel or Tracking Mechanism: This type of solar cookers require continuous tracking along with the rotation of the sun. So there is automatic tracking or the wheel is provided for the manual tracking.

How It Works: It concentrates all the sun ray at one focal point due to this the temperature is higher at the focal point where the cooking pot is kept. this can boil one ltr of water in just 9-10 minutes.

Advantages:
>>The cooking is very fast compared to Box Cookers And Panel Cookers.
>>The frying and making Chapaties is also possible.
>>Other commercial use like melting of wax, boiling of fruit juice etc also possible.
>>Due to Folding design it can be easily transport.
>>Smaller version with 1 mtr Dia can cook for family of 10.

Disadvantage:
>> Due to higher temperature the burning of food can be possible.
>> loss of food value compare to box cooker and panel cooker is higher in this type.
>> Attention is must for tracking and to check for over burning,

Continuing with the previous post Let us Talk About the Solar Box Cookers.

Going ahead about Solar Box cooker we will first look at the advantages and disadvantages of solar cookers.

Solar cookers are devices that use solar energy to cook food.

Advantages

1)No requirement of cooking gas or kerosene, electricity, coal or wood.
2)No need to spend on fuel, as solar energy is available free.
3)Food cooked in solar cooker is nutritious. About 10-20% of protein retention is more as compared to that in conventional cooking .Vitamin thiamine retention is about 20 to 30% more whereas vitamin A is retained 5 to 10% more when food is cooked in solar cooker.
4)Solar cooking is pollution free and safe
5)Solar cookers come in various sizes. Based on the number of family members, the size of the cooker can be chosen
6)All cooking activities (like boiling, roasting) can be done using a solar cooker

Disadvantages

1) The First And the Most Condition Is Adequate sunshine is required for cooking
2) Takes longer time to cook food than the conventional cooking methods.

Let Us First Discuss about the Box Type Solar Cookers

It is like a hot box, in which food can be cooked. It is the most commonly used model for household cooking.

Parts Of Solar Box Cookers:

Outer Box: The outer box of a solar cooker is generally made of G.I. or aluminum sheet or fibre reinforced plastic.

Inner Cooking Box (Tray) : This is made from aluminum sheet. The inner cooking box is slightly smaller than the outer box. It is coated with black paint so as to easily absorb solar radiation and transfer the heat to the cooking pots.

Double Glass Lid: A double glass lid covers the inner box or tray. This cover is slightly larger than the inner box. The two glass sheets are fixed in an aluminum frame with a spacing of 2 centimeters between the two glasses. This space contains air which insulates and prevents heat escaping from inside. A rubber strip is affixed on the edges of the frame to prevent any heat leakage.

Thermal Insulator: The space between the outer box and inner tray including bottom of the tray is packed with insulating material such as glass wool pads to reduce heat losses from the cooker. This insulating material should be free from volatile materials.

Mirror: Mirror is used in a solar cooker to increase the radiation input on the absorbing space and is fixed on the inner side of the main cover of the box. Sunlight falling on the mirror gets reflected from it and enters into the tray through the double glass lid. This radiation is in addition to the radiation entering the box directly and helps to quicken the cooking process by raising the inside temperature of the cooker.

Containers: The cooking containers (with cover) are generally made of aluminum or stainless steel. These vessels are also painted black on the outer surface so that they also absorb solar radiation directly.

Box type cookers with electrical back up are also available in the market.

How To Cook Food In Solar Cookers??

>>Keep the solar cooker in the sun in open space free from any shadow.
>>Keep the cooker in the sun at least for 45 minutes before loading it with cooking pots.
>>This will keep the cooker ready for cooking and reduce the cooking time.
>>Adjust the cooker in such a way that the reflecting mirror faces the sun and the reflected rays fall on the transparent glass lid.
>>Tighten the position fixing hinges of the mirror in this position.
>>Open the glass lid of the solar cooker, place the cooking pots inside it and close the lid properly.
>>Once the cooking vessels have been placed inside the cooker the lid should not be opened.
>>Open the lid fully once the food is cooked.
>>Please Take Care While removing the cooking vessels after the food has been cooked, use cloth napkins as the vessels are very hot.

What Does It Cost??
