We started our company seven months ago and have experienced tremendous growth with over $200,000 in sales, doing only trade shows. We are a team of only 7 people covering the entire continental US. What this position would require is for you to have an entrepreneurial spirit and a go-getter attitude. You would need to get sufficient inventory of solar flash lights (about $1,200) to run a show and would net out the difference between wholesale pricing and retail pricing. Wholesale pricing is about 60% of retail pricing. On average, after discounting the cost of the booth at a show, we make between $400 and $2,000 net, in cash, per show, with an average of $1,000. If you would like to get more information about this opportunity, feel free to email me your resume. We will be running the Go Green Expo this weekend. Please visit gogreenexpo dot com for the hours and location of the event. If you are interested in this opportunity, I will get you a free pass for the show and you will be able to see what this job is all about, in real time. Be prepared to see a crowd around our booth because of the quality of our solar flash lights. We patent, manufacture and assemble these lights right here in the US. We have many beautifully designed buildings, vehicles, phones, even clothes that are solar powered. All the elegantly designed and built solar powered technologies in use today and being developed for tomorrow are exciting to consider.

But, what about the practical and down to earth applications and businesses that need help from the sun's rays? What about the daily care of dairy cows, chickens and other earthy chores that have to get done on a typical farm. How would solar power possibly work in a farm setting?

The University of Delaware has their own dairy farm and came up with a master plan five years ago to integrate solar power into their farm. As time went by and funding became available they were able to acquire solar panels which they use to power the farm's feed storage and storm water treatment facilities and yes, a manure recycling facility!

Their latest project was the installation of 44 panels on the roof of the manure recycling facility. They're also utilizing green energy for a wetland project, stream restoration and a new milking parlor.

Tom Sims, deputy dean of agriculture, said this way of running a successful farm is "doable and practical."

Here we have a down to earth use of solar powered technology that directly affects the consumer. The use of solar energy is no longer considered an odd far left hippy-dippy impractical ridiculous pursuit as it once was. The cow's milk, goat's milk, eggs, etc you eat on a regular basis will be produced by farms using clean-green energy. From skyscrapers to recycling manure the use of solar power is becoming more commonplace and accepted as a practical way to improve our environment and our lives.

More details on the farm at the University of Delaware.

Smart Counties and Smart Homes

Marin County CA is vying to become the "Smartest" county in California. It is easy being green [on Halloween].
And with this list of ten steps, we make it even easier.

1. Plan ahead to avoid last-minute shopping which often limits your choices.
2. When it comes to costumes and décor—reuse, borrow, trade, purchase used or do-it-yourself.
3. Treat bags can be anything! For extra fun, match the bag to the costume using something you
already own. Here are some ideas: purses, flower pots (cover the hole), cloth sacks, backpacks,
lunchboxes.
4. Choose healthier treats. Take baby steps with organic candy and honey sticks, two child-favored
choices. (Honey is not for children under two years of two).
5. Choose fun treasures instead of conventional sweets. Think of the treasures your child collects
in her pockets—pretty rocks, feathers, etc.
6. If you’re giving a party, avoid disposables including napkins, plates, cups, tablecloths and other
décor.
7. Walk from house to house instead of driving.
8. Compost pumpkins and any other food, including leftover candy.
9. Collect candy wrappers and help your kids turn them into gift items like purses, bracelets and
picture frames. Find directions on the internet.
10. Check out www.GreenHalloween.org often for fun, new ideas.
Hundreds of additional ideas can be found at: www.GreenHalloween.org and

www.CelebrateGreen.net

Commercial Concentrated Solar Power for Rooftops

The scientists and researchers at "Sopogy" have created the world's first concentrating solar power technology designed for commercial rooftop installation.

Called "SopoFlare", it's supposed to have a unique mounting and fastening system for rooftop installation. Naturally solar power is mentioned but in relation to using space-based technology that beams the power down to a receiver.

The other 4 technologies are:

Advanced Vehicle Batteries such as Lithium-Air batteries that pull oxygen from the air to get a charge. The article admits however, that r & d that leads to commercialization could be at least 10 yrs away.

Utility Storage. In this case lithium-ion battery energy would be the method scientists would focus on for energy grid storage. Lithium-ion batteries could be placed close to grid customers in an attempt to more efficiently capture and deliver renewable energy.

Carbon Capture and Storage. Two different methods are being studied for dealing with CO2 produced by coal plants. One technology focuses on capturing the CO2 that's constantly being generated and other scientists are working on cutting emissions by 90% while cutting costs.

BioFuels. In this case the star is Algae. Algae grows fast and can generate 5000 gallons a year per acre of biofuel compared to 350 gallons produced by corn-ethanol. But this technology is still so green (pardon the expression) that it will be yrs before they figure out all the drawbacks to maintaining and producing this type of biofuel. Since algae based biofuel can be added to already existing distribution systems it could produce enough to cover the vehicle fuel needs of the entire country. Again, this technology is years away also.

All these game-changing energy producing and controlling technologies will be in development for years but their success will be worth the wait!

Check out the 5 interesting technologies at The Wall Street Journal Online.

Jobs In Solar: Solar Sales Representative - Champions Only (Phoenix)

Date: 2009-10-18, 8:36AM MST
Reply to: job-wybgu-1426691996@craigslist.org

Seeking Solar Sales Representative for in home sales. Schurr is v.p. of utility strategy and development at IBM. Questions about how electrical utilities will manage lots of electrical vehicles charging up in various neighborhoods.

The public is told it would be better to buy electrical cars but not much is explained about how they will be charged, where, and the cost to the vehicle owner and utility. This dilemma is being discussed finally. Questions regarding the capacity in typical neighborhoods to deal with a lot of cars charging up in addition to regular energy use. What would the additional cost of charging an electric car will have on your energy bill.

It's apparently just starting to dawn on utility companies that they have to develop a mid to long term strategy to come with new technology and figure out new capabilities. Improvements in devices that will monitor energy use while cars are charging as well as starting plans for developing public electrical charging stations.

Terms like "smart metering", "data management", "application integration" are now being discussed by major utilities who foresee a drain on the grid from lots of these vehicles charging at once. Utilities are having talks with car makers about this very subject.

Power outages may stop John and Joan from driving to work someday! A great excuse for skipping the office on a hot summer day- "Oh, I can't come in today, I forgot not to have my air conditioner, microwave and electrical car going at the same time."

As Schurr points out utilities are won't develop and build out the needed infrastructure to charge cars at home and in public charging stations until the public goes ga ga for these cars. The public on the other hand wants to know how to keep these cars charged and the cost before leaping to buy them.

Managing electricity for electrical vehicles here at <a Decathlon" begins October 9th!

About Solar Decathlon

For three weeks in October 2009, the U.S. Department of Energy will host the Solar Decathlon—a competition in which 20 teams of college and university students compete to design, build, and operate the most attractive, effective, and energy-efficient solar-powered house. The Solar Decathlon is also an event to which the public is invited to observe the powerful combination of solar energy, energy efficiency, and the best in home design.

Exact dates of the 2009 event are:

Oct. 8-16—Teams compete in 10 contests

Oct. 9-13—Houses are open to the public

Oct. 15-18—Houses are open to the public

Oct. 19-21—Teams disassemble their houses.

The Solar Decathlon houses will be open for public tours 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Monday–Friday and 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Please note that all homes will be closed Wed., Oct. 14.

The Solar Decathlon consists of three major phases:

Building: This is where most of the work—and the learning—happens. In addition to designing houses that use innovative, high-tech elements in ingenious ways, students have to raise funds, communicate team activities, collect supplies, and work with contractors. Although the Solar Decathlon competition receives the most attention, it's the hard work that students put in during the building phase that makes or breaks a team.

Moving to the Solar Village: When it's time for the Solar Decathlon, the teams transport their houses to the National Mall in Washington, D.C., and rebuild them on site.

Competing: During the competition itself, the teams receive points for their performance in 10 contests and open their homes to the public.

Purpose

The Solar Decathlon brings attention to one of the biggest challenges we face—an ever-increasing need for energy. As an internationally recognized event, it offers powerful solutions—using energy more efficiently and using energy from renewable sources.

The Solar Decathlon has several goals:

To educate the student participants—the "Decathletes"—about the benefits of energy efficiency, renewable energy and green building technologies. As the next generation of engineers, builders, and communicators, the Decathletes will be able to use this knowledge in their studies and their future careers.

To raise awareness among the general public about renewable energy and energy efficiency, and how solar energy technologies can reduce energy usage.

To help solar energy technologies enter the marketplace faster. This competition encourages the research and development of energy efficiency and energy production technologies.

To foster collaboration among students from different academic disciplines—including engineering and architecture students, who rarely work together until they enter the workplace.

To promote an integrated or "whole building design" approach to new construction. This approach differs from the traditional design/build process because the design team considers the interactions of all building components and systems to create a more comfortable building, save energy, and reduce environmental impact.

To demonstrate to the public the potential of Zero Energy Homes, which produce as much energy from renewable sources, such as the sun and wind, as they consume. Even though the home might be connected to a utility grid, it has net zero energy consumption from the utility provider.

Visit <a Not to mention all your game consoles, computers, and everything electronic you've got plugged into your wall sockets. The refrigerator and washer are still right up there in terms using a big share of your home's energy but our fun gadgets are giving them some competition.

All these electronics we can't live without are collectively using the same amount of electricity as the city of San Diego California! The average American home has about 25 electronic items in their home, most are plugged in all the time. Even when not in use, an electrical item is consuming power from the socket or regular power strip it's plugged into.

The manufacturers of the old energy hogs, specifically the worst all time energy hog the refrigerator, had to change their energy using standards as mandated by congress in 1990. Those new standards reduced the average refrigerators use of energy by 45%. New standards for washers reduced their power consumption by a whopping 70%.

Electronics manufacturers don't want new standards for lower energy consumption forced on them because they say they won't be able to produce these items without raising the retail cost to the consumer. They also want to be able to innovate, modify and redesign their gadgets to keep up with ever growing consumer demand for newer electronic games, gadgets, pc's, cell phones, routers, etc.

One way to eliminate power usage when the gadget is not being used is to plug electronics into "smart" power strips. These strips turn off when the gadgets are not in use cutting power usage to zero.

You can read more about this interesting subject by checking out the article by Jad Mouadwad and Kate Galbraith at The New York Times.

Jobs In Solar: Solar Sales Executive

Date: 2009-09-17, 3:19PM PDT
Reply to: see below

PetersenDean Roofing and Solar Systems is one of the largest independent roofing and solar companies in the United States.
