The company has donated its popular Renusol CS60 mounting solution for hands-on-training purposes to solar installer lab classes at the Solar Energy International (SEI) training program in Colorado, the Boots on the Roof program in California and New Jersey, and the Solairgen program in Georgia.

"SEI is excited to demonstrate Renusol's CS60 ballast mount solution on our campus. We look forward to becoming intimately familiar with this new product and the advantages it may offer integrators such as reduced installation time and parts to handle on the roof. The fact it is made in the US from recycled materials shows their commitment to the US market and the potential environmental impacts that industry can have," said Solar Energy International PV Lab Manager Jeff Tobe.

"We are excited to introduce both experienced and new solar installers to the latest technology in roof mounting solutions, one that is changing the way solar PV arrays are deployed on flat rooftops by eliminating the layout restrictions inherent to traditional, rigid aluminum racking rails," said Renusol America CEO Bart Leusink.

"This is the future for flat roof solar racking systems, and we want to do our part in providing solar installers the opportunity to learn how they can save both time and money with the latest, most efficient systems," said Leusink.

Renusol America's CS60 is the first ever 'one unit per one PV panel' mounting unit for flat roof installations. It is a 100% recycled plastic-base---and is fully recyclable. It is the future so <a href=http://solartraining.blogspot.com">solar training in this is imperative.

The Renusol CS60 provides several solutions developed specifically for the US solar market. The pre-molded unit has fewer and lighter parts, which means less labor-intensive installations and more profitable business opportunities for solar installers.

The design of the CS60 incorporates the latest groundbreaking boundary layer wind tunnel study in accordance to ASCE 7-05 and, with its flexible panel layout possibilities; the system can address varying wind and load conditions across a rooftop.

The units were also designed with a specific aerodynamic shape and with the material strength needed to withstand the wide range of climatic conditions-extreme temperatures, ice and snow-- and other natural forces that exist across the U.S. They can either be ballasted or attached to the roof in areas where hurricanes/tornados and earthquakes pose a threat. The Renusol CS60 is engineered and made in America.

So if you need your skills brushing up get in touch with one of the solar training programs above.

Not foggy old London.

But yes, the UK has its own booming residential and commercial solar industry. One company taking advantage of friendly government tariffs and consumer demand for solar energy is London solar panel suppliers, Ploughcroft Solar.

Ploughcroft maintains the only NVQ accredited <a href=http://solartraining.blogspot.com">solar training centre in the UK, handles both large corporate and residential installations, and even has an Eco Roof division.

To support the transition to renewable energy sources the UK now has a target of producing 15% of its total energy use to renewables by 2020 and has instituted the Generation and Feed In Tariffs program, providing those installing an alternative energy systems an estimated return of 8-10%, which compared with the interest paid by a savings account, is an attractive investment opportunity whilst lowering the home owner's or business's carbon footprint (global warming is an accepted fact in Europe and most of the civilized world). The Tariffs are available to home owners, businesses, schools and other commercial enterprises.

Proinso UK has signed with EcoSkies for training the Network of Qualified Installers, as part of its international training programme, the Proinso Solar Training School. EcoSkies is one of the UK’s main photovoltaic installer solar training centres, and Proinso’s programme involves collaboration through provision of teaching material and organisation of conferences and training programmes for the UK-based installers.

Proinso, a company specialising in distribution of modules, inverters, trackers and fixed structures for solar photovoltaic installations, has opened a new office and logistics warehouse in London, which will be the firm’s base for strengthening its UK market presence.

The company aims to do this through its team of highly qualified local professionals with wide experience in the renewable energies sector, led by Mark Randall. Proinso UK forecasts reaching a 10% share of total sales in the United Kingdom by 2012.

From its new UK office, Proinso will work to provide <a href=http://solartraining.blogspot.com">solar training, service and support to the 30 Qualified Installers it currently employs in the UK, and to add to its current number of installers and customers. The Slough logistics warehouse is over 3000 sqm in size, and will allow the company to offer customers a permanent stock service. Proinso will thus speed up deliveries to small-sized photovoltaic installation companies for their projects.

The London base is added to the list of Proinso offices in Spain, Germany, Greece, Italy, the US, Canada, China and the Czech Republic, and its International Network of Qualified Installers currently includes 1,695 member companies worldwide.

To meet that demand, Brubaker said school officials began developing a solar training program to offer that expertise to Hi-Point students.

“We’re trying to make the programs so there are multiple job paths,” she said.

The program is still in its early stages, but Brubaker said initially the program will focus on solar training. Students will be able to learn how to troubleshoot systems that provide solar energy, and the program could expand to other forms of renewable energy as well. Students will learn to maintain electrical and mechanical components used in sustainable energy systems.

Brubaker said the classes could be available by 2012.

The idea, she said, is that once students complete the solar training program, they can continue with similar classes in college or move directly into the workforce in some cases.

Initially, the program will only be available at Hi-Point’s south campus in Urbana, she said.

New Solar Training Program In Minnesota

A new solar training has been introduced at Riverland, Minnesota in the USA.

With the solar energy economy creating a new generation of jobs, there is a need to train the workers to do them. And one school in the Minnesota area is on the cutting edge of that solar training.

"As we see it, it's a technology that's really going to require a lot of hands to put this together," said Riverland Community College instructor Steven Vietor.

And Riverland wants to make sure those hands are ready.

"To provide the solar training for the workforce out there to install solar systems, solar photo-voltaic systems," Vietor said.

"This round is targeting working electricians to get the skills required to become licensed to install solar equipment in Minnesota," said Becky Thofson at Workforce Development in Rochester.

"We're seeing it used even at the home level to support and run air conditioning loads or at the office level to provide some help in electric loads," Vietor said.

And like many community college programs, solar training is very hands on.

"We've got a 15-hundred watt solar trailer and a 3000 watt solar array and a variety of other solar panels we're going to be dealing with," Vietor said.

Riverland and Workforce Development applied for a grant from the Minnesota State Energy Sector Partnership, and the money they were awarded will make the solar training nearly free for up to 20 students.

"The grant itself covers the tuition funding, tuition and fees at Riverland for the students. The students are going to have to pay for their own books and supplies," explained Workforce Development's Becky Thofson.

And because solar panels are gaining in popularity and become more affordable, those who know how to install them are pretty much guaranteed of finding a job.

"We've had a real good placement. We've had people that were working as far out as North Dakota on small and commercial systems," said Riverland's Steve Vietor.

And as far as the future, the sky's the limit.

"Minnesota has a tremendous resource in our solar energy that at this point has not totally been tapped," said Workforce Development's Becky Thofson.

An informational meeting on the "solar training installer" program will be held at the Riverland campus in Albert Lea at 5:30 on Wednesday evening, September 28th.

Chinese Giants Offer Solar Training To Californians

Solar training received an unexpected yet welcome shot in the arm in California with the announcement that Chinese solar energy giants Yingli Solar are to team up with US non-profit solar installer GRID Alternatives.

It is the biggest donation GRID has ever received, in a deal that makes the Chinese solar company GRID's official supplier.

According to a Yingli press release, the two companies will install 1MW of solar PV systems for 400 low-income families. These systems will generate more than $10m worth of renewable energy over their lifespans. On top of this, the partnership will provide solar training opportunities for thousands of people looking to develop skills in solar PV installation.

The idea of a major renewable energy company teaming up with a non-profit group in order to encourage the uptake of renewable technology in the residential sector (particularly among low-income households) is unique and works on several levels.

It promotes the use of solar energy, which helps the nation meet its targets relating to emissions, energy efficiency, and renewable energy generation.

And it will allow people from poorer backgrounds to gain solar training enabling them to take advantage of the emerging green economy. It will be local jobs for local people.

Also, large multinational energy companies can establish a presence in the US, which could provide a foundation for future investment in the nation's energy infrastructure.

The sponsorship of these solar training programs will create thousands of hands-on job training opportunities in PV installation while helping underserved families with immediate financial savings.

For more information on these solar training events go to www.gridalternatives.org/solarthon

New Solar Training Program Launched In Ohio, USA

If you are looking for a top quality solar training course and you live in or near Ohio then Christmas has come early for you.

Ten leading Ohio companies that manufacture components in the wind, solar and biomass industries have received grants which will enable them to train workers in these emerging, advanced energy technologies.

The grants, part of the state’s “Energizing Careers” program, will total more than $1.1 million and will go toward reimbursing the cost of solar training up to $6,000 for full-time employees. The program, administered by the Ohio Department of Development, is funded as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Ohio counties which have been impacted by the restructuring of the automotive industry were given preferential funding for this project for their citizens to gain skills in the emerging green market.

“The future of our economy is advanced energy manufacturing and our workforce must keep up with the demands of the marketplace,” said Christiane Schmenk, Director of the Ohio Department of Development. “These solar training dollars will benefit incumbent workers, as well as allow new employees to be hired.”

Under the program, 108 new workers and 83 workers will receive practical help including solar training under the program. Marathon Special Products, of Bowling Green, earned the largest grant award of the ten companies. The $250,600 grant will train 120 employees to manufacture the company’s solar power integration components, wind power connections, and wind circuit protection devices.

Biasi say the courses give heating installers the opportunity to 'gen up' on the company's solar products and systems, while improving their portfolio with a nationally recognised qualification.

Richard Braid, marketing director for Biasi UK, said: "We've designed this course with the ultimate aim of enabling participants to obtain recognised training in the design and installation of solar thermal systems, while at the same time, allowing them to self-certify to building control.

"We're confident that our courses will prove to be extremely popular for forward thinking installers wanting to train on our equipment while also gaining a highly valued, accredited qualification."

The BPEC solar training and examination course consists of two intensive days of training about solar energy absorption equipment, design and system installation, through to commissioning and fault finding. The course will provide knowledge to installers on all types of solar panels, plus associated heat stores and equipment. This can involve relatively low tech swimming pool systems through to highly advanced, fully pressurised tube and flat plate collector based arrangements.

Mike Hook, technical sales and solar training manager for Biasi UK, added: "We've just completed our first course with six established Biasi installers who had identified the need to broaden their knowledge and skills base, which would enable them to offer their customers renewable technologies such as solar thermal.

"I'm pleased to say they all passed with flying colours and attained the nationally accredited solar thermal qualification and we look forward to welcoming more installers to our state of the art, BPEC approved training facilities."

For further information on these solar training programs, please contact Biasi UK on 01922 714 600 or visit www.biasi.co.uk

The Future of Solar Training and How You Can Be A Part of It

With the worldwide industry of alternative energy approximately to be as close to 3 trillion dollars over the next decade, numerous solar training providers is offering training for people and companies alike to be skilled, experienced and certified in taking advantage of the possibilities in the solar sector.

According to the American Solar Energy Society, there were more than 9 million jobs (regarding energy efficiency jobs) even in 2007 alone. Their new studies show that they foresee a possible 35 million jobs by the year 2030 and as much as 95% of those working for private industries.

Renewable energy is the energy derived and produced from the resources of the Earth which are commonly replaced and is considered to be boundless in supply. Amongst renewable energy devices, the most popular will arguably attest that solar energy remains on top of the list.

And it should remain rightly so! The sun, in all its majestic glory, appears and displays at an appointed time every beginning of the day, each season. The sun's predictable nature makes it invaluable to man who have taken the proper solar training to utilize and harness the sunlight's boundless possibilities.

It is understandable and common knowledge that there are indeed several information and resources regarding solar training for almost everyone. And for a wary solar energy enthusiast, one should take the effort and time in order to go over the various solar training provider and be selective enough to choose the one which you know can give you good quality training and one which can give you your money's worth.

In short, go not just for affordability, but also for quality. In doing this, look for one which places its emphasis on precise and updated trends within the solar industry.

Aside from that, also make sure that its curriculum and methodologies are recognized by such governing bodies which is the premiere authority in regards to solar training and renewable solar energy - the NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) and the IREC or the Interstate Renewable Energy Council.

With the current progression of technology these days, and one of them being the birth of the Internet, the realm of solar training has finally arrived and is now reaching out far and wide to educate and train individuals as expert professionals in the knowledge of installation and design of solar energy systems.

If not for these experienced solar practitioners, the world of solar power and the whole industry as well will not thrive or will not be on anybody's awareness for that matter.

To further help you out, be on the lookout for those programs which provides its focus on the foundation regarding installing systems which are of code or standard compliant.

And also make sure that subject matters such as directions for installation, safety issues, design criteria, hot water heating systems and equipment maintenance of photovoltaic power systems are outlined by the experts on these topics from the NABCEP and in conformity with the ISPQ or the Sustainable Power Quality and IREC.

For more information on renewable energy go to Clean Energy Ideas.

Look For Quality and Affordability When It Comes To Solar Training

There is a rising need for solar training courses in the US as concern regarding the environment grows.

Fortunately, the public are doing whatever they can in order to do their own share to minimize pollution and at least protect and safeguard our nature. And as part of this crusade, most individuals are now open minded and has presently been utilizing the alternative energy sources in for either their commercial or residential purposes.

Among the most usual accessible alternative energy devices, the most well-known by far is still the solar energy. The purpose of this is that it is very accessible worldwide and the technology of solar panels is in reality, very much superior in contrast to some of the other alternative energy devices out there.

Therefore, in connection with this, it was expected that there was a growing need for people (trained and certified people, to be specific) who install and repair solar panels. Are you one of those who plans to be hired as a solar installer or offer repair services? Then first and foremost, you have to take up and complete the proper solar training in reputable institutions.

Whilst top positions necessitate licenses and engineering degrees, solar training for sales and installation is quite easy to acquire. The NABCEP or The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners offers those popularly recognized and acknowledged installer certifications.

Certain courses and programs are also on hand at some local colleges and universities, and that includes instructor training, solar installation, design, sales, and many others.

The solar training elements include the design features of the solar panels, and of course, the solar panels installation and not to forget the safety related issues.

The chief goal of this solar training is to present the idea of solar paneling and thus, to teach and train individuals in the different scientific and methodological features which are a part of solar panel training.

Nevertheless, there are some few official certification courses and programs available. Still, there are plenty of methods on how to expand your skills and experience should you choose this field.

The good news is, with the help of federal as well as local rebates, the solar sector would still continue to increase over the next few years and eventually, more jobs will soon follow in this field of profession. But you have to take into consideration that installation specs and job requirements could differ depending on various localities.

Check with the sector organizations and your local companies in order to know what are the most trusted and acknowledged solar training courses in your area. Solar training must be recognized by installation companies and must contain hands-on and practical programs. That said, always be cautious of online courses.

If you are on the hunt about where to train for solar installation training, always look for affordability and quality. If you get the best of both worlds when it comes to training at an affordable price, then you know you can be confident that you're in good hands.

Solar Training to Upgrade your Skills in Your Career

As of now, you may be well aware that we are living in the age of alternative energy and recycling. And as mature and conscientious citizens of this world, we are now a part of whatever our environment is presently encountering these days. We all have our roles to play when it comes to taking care of our environment.

We could actually begin our share in contributing whatever we can by lessening our electricity use and making use of renewable energy via solar panels. If you want to be a professional in the field of solar energy industry, then it is a must to sign up for solar training for you to be certified and skilled when it comes to solar installations and any other skills related to it.

In this training, the students will understand the solar panel as either a photovoltaic panel or photovoltaic module. The solar panel is employed to supply electricity to some commercial and residential homes or buildings. The panels are grouped and attached gathering of solar cells also referred to as photovoltaic cells.

These solar panels possess special photons of light energy. These are trapped straight from the sunlight in order to produce enough electricity by way of the photo electric. These skilled and trained solar experts are accountable for the solar energy's maximum generation and efficiency.

The solar panel system must be able to hold a degree of light frequencies which yields power. Continual and persistent developments must be ensured on the panels for the reason that they could hold the whole solar spectrum like infrared, diffused light and ultraviolet.

Those undergoing solar training must be able to inspect the location and carry out an evaluation and make reports. And these reports that you provide will be applied in order to gauge which solar composition would fit the site well and under what type of electrical and mechanical composition needs to be made use of as a draft.

And aside from that, solar installers must be able to evaluate the products themselves and make sure that they comply and conform to the standards of the sector and are safe and has passed quality control for the consumers.

As of late, these solar training courses are voluntary--for now. But you will never know when they will become compulsory or required by your employers. So for now, there is truly an escalating demand and consciousness for solar training programs. More and more employers and managers are encouraging and supporting their employees in signing up for these very helpful and useful programs.

With this in mind, don't you think that it is high time that you should enhance your skills? And there is nothing more appropriate a time than now, since there is a rising trend in regards to the demand of solar training.

It is always good and admirable when you want to upgrade your technical skills (or any skills for that matter) so that you broaden your horizons by knowing as much as you can.

Renewable Energy Jobs – Green jobs globally - Renewable energy jobs worldwide. More scientists and experts are investing persistent efforts and finances in this field of industry because they know that it indeed it is worth it.

That's why the continuous improvements and developments in solar training and the solar energy industry is very much active. From improvements on the equipment being used and the entire technological advancement as well is a big boost to the entire industry.

And if you want to provide such services or be hired as a professional in those
fields, then before anything else, solar training is a must.

As it is often significant to keep up with the latest news about the ever-changing times and the current technologies, especially so for those who are trying to carve a profession in solar training.

As a solar panel installer, you must possess ample skills, practical know-how regarding the process of installation. And aside from that, those who wants to be a certified practitioner in this field must also be well-versed when it comes to understanding the features and aspects of solar electrical systems, its inspection, configuration, performance verification -- and not only limited to its installation.

When you go through solar training, you would be trained to troubleshoot any deficiencies and faults in the solar panel system. It's not sufficient to merely establish and install the entire system, but it is also equally important to know about regular maintenance check ups.

It is only fair and just to say that for anyone to handle very complicated and intricate equipment and devices, one really needs to undergo the proper solar training from a reputable institution or university.

Solar training chiefly comprises of three basic parts: One handles the installation, the other with design aspects, and the last one deals with sales.

If you are really serious about solar training, it actually offers plenty of benefits and plus points. Well for one, your certification will be a great edge over your competitors (granting that they don't have certifications), then not to mention that you will be well informed and be aware regarding of the new concepts and ideas in technology emerging; you can then be confident that what you offer your consumers and clients are definitely worth their money with those services. In the end, it is all a win-win situation.

Some Terms You Need To Know If You Plan to Take Part in Solar Training

If you want to become a qualified solar installer or professional, you must take a certified solar training program first. And to help you go about with your being a professional and qualified solar energy practitioner, here are some terms to help you out.

Certification-- If you want to step up the credentialing ladder to success in being a professional solar installer, then being certified is a major step. Certification solar training courses are created by a board of highly-qualified and proficient professionals in the green-collar sector, who forms strict standards for solar installers.

There are quite a number of solar training programs out there and that includes the new UL University program. But the best-organized certification program for solar by far is still the NABCEP, or the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners.

And regarding this, 16 states in the U.S now necessitate or heavily support solar installers or all those interested would-be solar energy practitioners to be certified by NABCEP.

Certificate- This should not be mistaken for certification. Certificates only show that the learner has complied and finished a particular degree of program. Normally solar training certificates are issued for all time, whereas a certification necessitates extra testing and training after a certain duration of time.

Accreditation- take note that not only the installers the only ones who are required of standards and competencies. The instructors also do need that. The ISPQ or the Institute for Sustainable Power Quality guidelines guarantee that courses and programs for renewable energy operated by technical colleges, universities and professional instructors are providing a clear path and most especially unchanging to employment in the sector.

The standards of this reputable institute are the reference point in the United States for solar training programs and courses. To assess any solar training courses or programs, the principles of ISPQ are definitely a good way to start.

Licensing- After the installer has obtained his certificationa and acquired ample experience in the field, he can already get a contractor's license. The only difference between licensing and certification is that the latter, acknowledeged nationwide, while licensing differs from state to state.

In some other states, a license in order to set up solar is merely engaged in plumbing, electrical and general contractor's license. Now, there are 14 states which posess licenses solely for solar energy. The licensing arena always varies and alters. In Massachusetts, certain rules and laws have been affixed which only allow electrical contractors to issue an authorization to set up solar, creating a burst of controversy among the industry.

All in all, knowing and understanding the variance and distinctions among the attestations and credentials mentioned above is crucially essential to all potential installers wanting to learn about solar training as well as of course, for consumers as well, who would be the end users of it all.

If the interested individual could search for a solar training course or program, realize the entire advantages as well as its restrictions, and not to forget about assessing these solar training programs through indsutry-acknowledged guidelines and principles, then most likely that individual can have himself a winner!

Want To Become A Qualified Solar Practitioner?

If competition is a good thing, then certainly, the credentialing area is not exempt.

And Jane Weissman, executive director of the (IREC) Interstate Renewable Energy Council, stated that if new systems and solar training affiliations strive to pursue new and different standards which in effect, provide the public with mixed messages, then some fresh and emerging solar energy professionals may not obtain the correct proficiency and solar training experience needed to carry out dependable, hazard-free and safe installations.

This is why Ms. Weissman wants to make sure that we have workers who are safe and competent enough to do their jobs on the roof.

Consequently, who matters most is and will always be the consumer. For instance, the entire green collar sector would certainly be on a bad light if only one consumer has a bad experience with solar energy because of poor workmanship done under the hands of an under-qualified solar installer.

Still, Jane Weissman wants to make sure that someone is not just taking a two-day solar training course and thinking that they are certified solar installers.

Because the basic fact is that it does take much more time and a lot of experience than just a brief solar training period entails.

Okay, that said, so how does a person get to acquire the required skills and experience?

To meet the increasing demands of for new solar energy installers, quite a few up and coming solar training courses have emerged recently. Solar training courses normally offer multi-day workshopsps regarding installing solar thermal and small wind and solar PVs.

Taking this solar training program is just the initial step in becoming competent in setting up systems on your own, nevertheless. And this is where specialised solar training comes in.

“The engineering construction contractor will do the hiring along with the trade unions,” said Billy Owens, director of project development for Solar Millennium.

Larry McLaughlin, who heads up COD's solar training programs, said union apprenticeships may be a key path to jobs on the project.

COD is on track to turn out about 140 prospective workers with basic skills in the solar thermal technology to be used at Blythe and two of the three other projects waiting for approval.

McLaughlin said, “A project the size of Blythe, they will have a hard time providing enough workers. If multiple projects get under way, they'll be creating new apprenticeship programs, and we'll have excellent candidates.”

“Field utility jobs are 60 percent mechanical; you need to be skilled with tools,” said Vincent Battaglia of Renova Energy in Palm Desert, which has a solar training program for workers installing residential solar.

“For those who have construction skills that need to be upgraded, there are many options.”

K Kaufmann covers energy and green technology for The Desert Sun. Texas has everything from lots of sunshine, oil money and an expert workforce.

Mike Willis, vice president of business partnerships for Workforce Solutions, a Rio Grande Valley workforce development board said, “Clearly there are emerging jobs and industries and entrepreneurs creating new technologies and opportunities, but they blend with manufacturers and companies evolving to include alternative energy, waste reduction and recycling. These schools have a wonderful relationship with that business community and are eager to respond to their needs.”

The National Wildlife Federation and Jobs for the Future hosted the all-day summit and has lead similar initiatives in five other states.

Their ultimate aim is to bring together graduates from community colleges and business leaders in developing new solar training programs so Texas has a ready made, green workforce,

NWF Campus Field Director Lisa Madry said, “Jobs in this area of sustainability in general are growing faster than job growth in other areas. This is really a chance to share information and gets these groups on the same track to help South Texas lead this movement.”

Mario Reyna, dean of business and technology emphasized the importance of solar training at his college when he said, "We are doing our part to answer the overwhelming call of this green economy. As we move forward...we can work together to help create a green culture and satisfy the job-creating system behind it.”

With the green economy set to expand rapidly all over the world solar training is now becoming taught in many Colleges all over the US.

New Californian Solar Training Program

A new solar training program has started up in Riverside, California. Eco-Hut Academy, LLC aims to promote sustainable living through environmental education.

Eco-Hut provides solar training sessions in an instructor-led classroom environment.

Robert Srinivas, President/CEO announced today that "Eco-Hut Academy in its never ending quest to make Green Technology courses affordable to contractors and green technology enthusiasts has broken a new price barrier in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency workshop, it is introducing a combo course of BPI Certified building analyst and Solar PV installation course for only $3295. Danville Community College will offer a solar training and installation class for the spring semester.

“It’s a coming technology,” said Jerry Franklin, director of manufacturing and technical services at the Regional Center for Applied Technology and Training. “We are trying to stay on the leading edge of technologies that are pertinent to this area.”

Business and economic development leaders are helping to grow alternative energy - especially solar energy - in the region, hence the latest solar training initiative. Hopes are Danville might attract a solar farm or a solar manufacturer in the near future.

The solar training class is open to the public and will introduce students to solar energy and how it is installed in a home environment, Franklin said. Solar uses could be from running a pump for a water fountain to actually generating some or all of the power a family needs.

DCC bought three solar trainers with solar panels and associated household components for lab work.

The class won’t qualify someone to install the system on their home, but will empower residents to better understand solar so they know how to contract for a solar system, like knowing what questions to ask.

The three-credit solar training class will cover how to size a home solar system, how to site a solar panel in Danville’s latitude and how to wire the system’s components. The first class meets at RCATT in Room 103 on Jan. 11 next year.

The class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m. and will be taught by Mike Jones.

For more info on this solar training class go to www.dcc.vccs.edu

Interview With Gene Schlesinger Of Solar Training School

Gene Schlesinger is a successful entrepreneur and the founder of Solar Training School. Gene started his solar career in 1985 as a solar thermal installer. He is a consultant to manufacturers, distributors and companies desiring to enter the solar industry.

There are several options available for solar energy education ranging from 1 day introduction courses through 2 year degree programs. There are community college programs, trade schools, courses offered by not for profit organizations and associations, manufacture product training and e-learning or online courses.

Why is it important to get training from a Solar Training School?

Safety is the first and foremost reason for Solar Training. A well trained installer will employ workplace safety practices established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Fire Protection Agency’s NFPA 70: National Electrical Code. The safety of the installer and a safely installed photovoltaic system is a key element to the progression of this evolving PV industry.

What types of schools are there and what kind of programs do they offer?

There are several options available for solar energy education ranging from 1 day introduction courses through 2 year degree programs. There are community college programs, trade schools, courses offered by not for profit organizations and associations, manufacture product training and e-learning or online courses.

What are the pro’s and con’s of the different programs offered, for example; hands on vs. online training?

There is no substitute for hands on or on the job training for an installer, It’s a must do. The problem with most hands on courses offered is the cost of the training, ranging from $1000 to $ 3000 for a 5 day course. Other issues are the cost of travel, being that most facilities are remotely located and the cost of lodging , if available .

Online training is defiantly the green choice for training. There is no commuting, (reduction of co2 emissions) and a reduction in the use of paper and other consumable products. The classroom portion is the same offered by hands on schools. Online training is ideal for solar careers that do not rely on the hands on aspect of installations.

To read the rest of this interview click here.

If you want to know more about Gene's solar training programs go to Solar Training School.
